The best part of Mike McDaniels story is that he lost a Charlotte Hornets hat at Denver Broncos camp when he was a kid. The next day he returned to Broncos camp and a Broncos coach returned his hat to him then proceeded to date his mom and eventually marry his mom. Which ultimately led to McDaniels to be friends with Kyle Shanahan. Would his life be different if he never lost that hat?🤔
It’s so refreshing to watch an interview with interesting questions and thoughtful answers. I’m not a Dolphins fan or hater but this guy is so easy to root for.
This is a great interview. Especially as you dig down on how he dealt with the ‘look test’ of not fitting what a prototypical individual associated with the NFL is expected to look like. ie ex-player, physical gifted, etc
Some guys are wired differently, and I'm a huge fan of how he approaches his job. Favorite Miami coach since Shula (honorable mention to MDCD's interm season).
Glad to hear McDaniel talk up what I think is the most underrated part of Tua's game, his body control. Some of the stuff he does between the snap and the pass or hand off is crazy intricate and fast and you don't see any other QBs in the league doing anything remotely close. And it allows Mike to draw up plays for Tua that couldn't work with any other QB.
Dude this guy is totally incapable of giving a short, concise answer. Holy moly it’s gotta get old for people around him. He takes foreverrrrr to say not a whole lot of anything
I do, too 🙂. unfortunately Miami Beach is 12h away by plane yet us Germans love Miami Mike very much as well - he´s great: Go, Phins, make it happen Tua!
I saw a video one time of a fireman standing next to burning building wearing a heavy jacket and baggy clothes like a yellow marshmallow. He also had a scuba tank on standing close to flames I risked my life running into the fire to take off his oxyyen tank before the oxygen in it exploded but got arrested trying to save thag man's life despite getting 3rd degree burns all over my hair
Mike is awesome. Always a fun interview. Miami is fortunate to have him. Too hot for a sweatshirt. 😂Mike has been great for Tua. Mike treated him with kindness and brought out his best. Built up his confidence.
I first watched a video of this guy on the Dan Patrick show and now I am a big fan of this personality and coach. Such a relatable and interesting dude. Stay humble and stay the course. Great interview.
I love how kay adams how she holds the interview so very entertaining especially coach Mike telling of something that other people could not understand
Ace Ventura fan & Dolfan here...if it's on the TV, I can't not watch AVPD thru the end. Knowing Dan Marino turned away residuals on his part in this film makes me love it even more. Laces out, Dan !!!!
On the subject of the injuries and limiting offseason reps and sitting out preseason games: all of that is the reason that more injuries occur now in the NFL than ever. It’s because the CBA deals continue to limit the practices and full-contact reps. Players aren’t conditioned and hardened like they used to be and that’s why they’re getting injured. Limiting reps, whether in practice or preseason games, is not the answer, it’s actually the problem
He talks slow precise and controlled mind at work purposes must have to slow down his brain to speak . . My opinion . Envious brilliantly corky funny . Great guy.
Hope he opens up the offense? How are you on the cutting edge of offensive innovation and whining lol. I’m a panthers fan you don’t understand what it’s like to suffer

We’re not a great football team, we couldn’t even put up more than 22 points on any team with a winning record. No more excuses this year. They just paid our qb who hasn’t helped us accomplish anything one of the biggest contracts in the league. The bare minimum expectation every dolphins fan should have for this year is win the division win a playoff game and look competitive in the next round. Anything less is unacceptable now
She’s really trying to make his vibe matter. I don’t blame that approach. This guy is by far the most entertaining for the media. At end of the day fans just want wins.
He’s a fun guy. Quite the charm. Can he manage the team, the clock? We don’t get to ask him that. How soon to forget. How many years now? Just bein’ myself, Mike. Btw, maybe #13’s the curse? #finsup🐬

I think i might just be The Old Guy now, but it is hard for me to get the comparisons out of my head of how Shula was as a young coach vs. coach McDaniel. Coach Shula was so incredibly intense and serious about all things his team, whereas coach McDaniel is so incredibly glib about everything. I can still remember Shula's first press conference, one of the south Florida press asked him to describe his coaching style, Shula replied "I'm about as subtle as a punch in the nose". I read a story once that when Miami Vice was a huge cultural phenomenon on TV that the two stars, Don Johnson and Philip Michal Thomas were brought out to practice and there was a big stir among the players and fans and they were walked over and introduced to Shula as from Miami Vice, Shula greeted them and shook their hands telling them what a good job they were doing in Miami, thinking they were actual Miami PD Vice cops, having no idea the TV show Miami Vice even existed. Of course, we know what followed, making the playoffs his first season followed by three SB's in a row and the perfect season. Whereas this team has yet to even beat the good teams when it matters. Perhaps it's not a fair comparison as the early Shula teams had HOF talent all over the offense and the defense was also packed with star players. I still bleed Art Deco Orange and Aqua Marine(o) from my time as a boy and I desperately want to believe in this team...But as much as I am impressed with the high flying offense (the '72 Dolphins also led the league in Points scored), I just haven't seen the toughness and precision in the big games against the best teams (which are really the only games that matter, if you can't beat the good teams it really doesn't matter after that)...as Shula said "The good teams win the close games".
Nah I’m in my 20’s so I never saw Shula but I also follow hockey and the difference between Paul Maurice for the panthers and McDaniel for the dolphins is night and day.
