Sir, I loved this video, I was impressed by your knowledge, which leads me to my question & I really hope you could give me an answer to the best of your understanding. At the end of this part you are explaining why those pipes are so important but we can't hear why, can you finish the reason why for me? Thanks
One more question if I may, because you seem to really know your history. Those pipes are in the MacKenzie modern tartan, but so many claim these setts did not exist yet at the time of Culloden. What if anything do you know of that claim? Because the more research I do the less proof of that specific fact, I actually find... If you have any input it would be greatly appreciated...
@@lunachester3056 Hey James! Thanks for your lovely comments, we had a wonderful tour around Dale's ancestral lands. Yes, at the end of the video we were in the Visitor's Centre at Culloden and I was explaining to Paula and Dale that the bagpipes were very important in destroying some of the myths around Culloden and the wider Jacobite Risings. Many believe that the Jacobite Risings were fought between England and Scotland, but in actually fact it was a British Civil War with Scots and English (as well as Welsh and Irish) on both sides. The bagpipes are important in highlighting this fact, as they were thought to belong to a Government (Redcoat) piper. Many would assume that the pipes were part of the Jacobite Army, which was largely composed of Highlanders, but the Government Army had a good amount of Highlands Clansmen in their ranks too. So, the pipes are very important in contextualising this often misunderstood conflict. Hope that helps! Have a great day! :)

@@DaleMcKenzie I have lots more. I even have copies of very old photographs of the McKenzie ancestors. There is a facebook group called McKenzie Family Reunion. That is my McKenzie family. One thing about the McKenzie's is that they still all have that "clan" mentality, that yearning to gather together. And so every single year we all gather somewhere and all spend about a week together. And there are too many of us to count. But it is amazing. We will play games and sing old songs and go over the new geneological discoveries made as we dig deeper into out past. I love it. Especially when we hear how close we were to the royals and our involvement in the Jacobite uprising. If you watch the show OUTLANDER on the stars network. That very accurately portrays the McKenzie clan's life. It's such an experience to watch and imagine that our ancestors were actually there fighting those battles.

I have traced my family back to the MacKenzie clan. We were blacksmiths and later took up the Sur name Smith. So if you go back far enough... I guess you could say we're kin 😉
Hi! I am Sarah Jane McKenzie. I happened on your show. I was wondering if you are interested in genealogy. I am trying to tie my line as far back as possible. My DNA ties to Macknzie in C anada.
Hello Sarah! 👋 Thank you so much for watching this - as you’d guess, this little series is very near and dear to our hearts. Dale’s ancestry can also be traced to a MacKenzie who left Scotland with the British Army in the years after Culloden, went to Canada, and stayed. We have looked into the genealogy a bit, but it takes time and research…and time is hard for us to find these days! 😊
@@paulamckenzie My goal is to one day visit. As for now, I will be living vicariously through your video series. Thank you so much for sharing. I can only imagine how emotional the visit was. You had such an amazing and knowledgeable guide too.

beautifull pictures and story - but pleaase, that music! the modern pianot, it is soo bad, it disturbs the rest of the story, one is busy muting all the time.
We appreciate you watching this series, it really was a passion project for us. As for the music: I use the UA-cam Audio Library to score all my videos, because it is a resource they provide for content creators that is royalty free and has no copyright issues. This is very important, as dealing with copyrighted music has ramifications - like having to take the video down. I do my very best to find music in that library appropriate to the subject matter - from what is available.

I really dig your stats I like it a lot man you're really moved me ELV IS
I left a note for any MacKenzie in the monument mound to the rear of this vid in 2017. Tulach Ard!
PM MacKenzie I am so sorry I missed responding to this! Now we need to go back and look for that note! Tulach Ard indeed. 😊🏴

Thank you so much for watching this, and taking the time to comment. 🏴 These videos mean a lot to us personally. Our return trip that was supposed to happen last year was actually intended to do the west coast of Scotland and the isles…places you visited! We sure hope to reschedule that trip.
And that witches well was actually in Edinburgh, on the Royal Mile. 😊
Just remember when you're tucking into Haggis to just enjoy it&don't ask what's in it! lol
simon LOL we knew that! Delicious deep fried as an appetizer...had it in Glasgow 👍
You & my dad look similar. Knew you were the link before I saw your name, 😂.
I have traced my family back to the MacKenzie clan. We were blacksmiths and later took up the Sur name Smith. So if you go back far enough... I guess you could say we're kin 😉
Well hello 👋 “cousin”, happy to know you - and thank you for watching our passion project! 😊
My clan is Mackenzie (direct lineage) and MacDonald (cousin lineage).
We are proud to know you! Thank you for taking the time to watch this video - this series is very meaningful to us personally.
@@paulamckenzie My goal is to one day visit. As for now, I will be living vicariously through your video series. Thank you so much for sharing. I can only imagine how emotional the visit was. You had such an amazing and knowledgeable guide too.
Sir Kenneth MacKenzie of Kintail was my 14th great grandfather.
This kind of comment gives us chills...thank you so much for watching.
Wow. He is also my 14th or 15th great grandfather. This is amazing.
Hi Dale, I don’t know if you are aware of this but there is a Mackenzie Clan Facebook club which you may like to join?
I wasn’t aware but I will definitely look it up. Thanks for the heads up. 😊
My paternal grandmas last name was Henrietta mckenzie I just recently found out I'm 38% scottish
Thank you for watching! 🏴
I know my clan history did see what this guy says
Your next trip is gonna have to be clan Macleod and McClure family
I've heard the sur name Kennison comes from MacKenzie. Does anyone know if this is true or not? My last name is Kennison
Hi - hmm I’m not sure if it does, but they do sound similar…and Scottish surnames do all ultimately come from a clan name, don’t they? Thanks for watching this one. 🏴
Thank you.
Dad had a plar coat of arms saidd mackenzies served king sombody his name was john donal same as mine
I'm a Mack not Mc 😊
Dean Mackenzie bell, dmb Glad to know ya lol! Dale’s family up in Canada is a mix of Mac and Mc...I think everybody of Scots descent has a little of that! 😊
@@paulamckenzie cool, never really thought about other Mackenzies around the world. I'm gonna do some more research into the name. Amazing story's, I'm from England and love iorn an bronze age things now I've got even more history to learn. The bbc did a good program on the clans
beautifull pictures and story - but pleaase, that music! the modern pianot, it is soo bad, it disturbs the rest of the story, one is busy muting all the time.

Hey! I'm Dale McKenzie too! My great grandfather immigrated to the states in 1875 and dropped the "a" making us McKenzies instead of MacKenzies.
Thankyou for sharing
We are so grateful when anyone with the McKenzie surname watches these - thank YOU!
What an amazing trip! thank you for making this 3 - part series .....cousin? lol!
Well hi there - I am so sorry I missed this comment! I try to keep tabs on them as they come in but I just saw this...cousin-in-law. :) Thank you for watching this series, it is truly near and dear to our hearts! Tulach Ard...
