I spent ages playing this game. It was kind of like Impossible Mission, and this subgame elevated A View To A Kill to almost being a great game!
    Strong memories:
Learning to STOP looking down all the time!
    Discovering the grapple hook. Wow!
Losing the grapple hook - No! (Especially on the conveyor belt)
    Discovering the lift.
Running in vein against the direction of the conveyor belt.
    Discovering Mayday.
Getting stuck at the bottom of the mine.
Wondering for decades how the game can be completed.

Ha! Yes, it was particularly difficult. So difficult in fact, that I learned how to decompile games and learned Assembly language just so I could solve this game. I had no idea that you needed to put in four numbers, in the correct sequence, AND have four pieces of the winch. Oh! And you cant pick up the detonator unless all this was done. Then to top it all off, you needed to take the detonator back to the start! That is impossible!

@@Unorig I had no idea. In fact if you started me off five minutes from the end of your A View To A Kill videos, I would still probably never complete the game! Did you ever go to the bottom of the mine and get back up? I think I did once, but I also remember not being able to so I'm uncertain whether memory is playing tricks on me. I never discovered the conveyor belts reversing trick. That blew my mind. Thanks for solving the game.

As a kid I was hopeless at all parts of the game. Never got very far at all. I had to learn how to decompile C64 games and code Assembly language just so I could solve this game! I never knew what the conveyor handle was for and I was looking through the code and noticed it had to be used in a specific spot. There is a lot of code like that.

I am pretty sure I played this! I also remember the one where he is in a building that is on fire :)

I didn't know you could collect the winch handle without even being near it. Wearing the hard hat is probably helpful during the end sequence.

So I thought the hard hat would help with the drips but it doesnt. I am pretty sure I looked through the code for the use of the hard hat and didnt turn up anything. I may go back and try out the hard hat with the falling rocks - that would be interesting. Once I figure out the hard hat, I dont think there are any mysteries left.

Thanks so much for these videos. I’d always wondered.
As for the code at the end… how were you supposed to know the sequence of digits? Does another part of the game hint at it?

Good question, there is absolutely no hint of what the code could be for the detonator - Its really interesting - I scoured the manual and everything. Its so incredibly buggy that if you put one number in incorrectly, you would have to restart but you wouldn't know that - it doesnt tell you at all. You can keep entering numbers but it wont make any difference due to the way it was programmed. I had to disassemble the whole game just to find the code and avoid the bugs.
