We caught it back in the eighties with about 18' faces, it would peak where the marker is or a little out past it and break left all the way into the cove almost 200 yards. It was from a cold front. The Boca Chica gulf side can get really big when it does that, 20'+, but that wave keeps reforming and if you wipe out at the take off it can keep dragging you with it, its pretty dangerous and can drown you if you can't swim out of it. I had a really good friend drown there and I almost did myself. We used to charge large surf on the mainland Pacific coast of Mexico so it was not inexperience. Real waves in an ocean break and are over without reforming continually.
it seems like they could put some material there next to the jetty that would make a rideable wave and at the same time dissapte the energy more efficiently than the current configuration
There is a sandbar next to the jetty where you see it breaking and when the tide is lower and the right swell direction it creates really nice/powerful head high plus barrels.
This spot has the potential of a surfing paradise possibility. With a little dredging and engineering, world class waves and economic opportunities galore. It has been proven and done for some .
It's really frustrating seeing all the swell in the water and no waves of value. Inside the jetty is barely rideable for more than 2 seconds if you're lucky and even with a 9-10 foot log. It's crazy with all the coast the gulf doesn't get great surf.

The last shot of that big right next to the breakwall tho. Nobody out. Smh.
Get a foil board and emerge from the jurassic period, a foiler would get so many turns
Another wish I was there moment 🤙
There's no waves. It's not breaking really anywhere and where it is is mushy close outs.
