Blood and Thunder in the style of Mastodon was pretty cool.
Better than the original by far
I see your game, you Maverick renegade
Rammstein
Robert Bartos it was real familiar sounding 😏
Waiting for someone to be whoooshed at
Blood and Thunder riff is becoming next Smoke on the water of the guitar stores.
Kesis and I’m totally okay with that
@@him050 I’m not! I love that riff and I don’t ever want to get tired of it
Hahaha no way man! Thanks for the Toska love! I wish I’d written that riff hahaha
Aren't these 20 styles vids super interesting? You're the man Bea
Love you Bea!
Rabea for the new Queen of England!
Do it.
Anyone else think toska should do a full cover of blood and thunder in their style?
I knew there would be lots of pick scrapes in the Gojira one
Tool - Schism in the Style of 20 Bands would be cool
Really ...
... Prison Sex has more Guitar than Schism but I like The idea
Make it so Pete!
smoke on the water...
Stinkfist
Including Toska was that little extra touch...
ChristianIce that extra little *chef’ kiss*
who are Toska ?
@@gianmarcobaudazzi78
De duvrissi vergugnà ndu camìni!
It's Rabea Massaad's band, and he's an animal.
@@ChristianIce i've never knew them before
I didn't know this band. But i liked that riff style.
That machine head style riff was mega
Thanks! :)
You sir, have a mean Downpicking game. That misfits style was on point, Doyle would be proud.
Something in the style of ...
*Kmac* ?
You know what just skip me...
THIS
NO ONE SHALL MANAGE TO BE THE LEVEL OF OUR MEME GOD MACAVELLI
This video was suggested after a Kmac video... Is this a reccuring thing?
@@samnick532 Гений ебать
I think you should have a bonus riff on every video of a "Cottrell" style! Make the riff into something you would play. I think that would be cool
Noice idea
The animals as leaders part surprised me, did not expect it in the slightest
I'm amazed at how clean Pete pulled off the double thumping
That's cause it was too slow and not in odd time signature switches that we couldn't figure out.
The drums should be much more intense though
This is fantastic.
Thanks so much! I love and have followed JTC for years :)
@@peteplaysmusic Ah brilliant man! Well, this is sweet! Loved the Toska and Gojira versions. Spot on.
Gojira and Machine Head... simply perfect! I heard the bands playing it when I closed my eyes!
How can you hate on machine head and not cradle lmao love both personally
Santana was the best. Change my mind
GOJIRA one is always so accurate
1:42 - 1:53
The closest any of us will come to the next Necrophagist album.
How long has it been since the last album?
15 years 😂
@@marcomartins20 Holy shit XD
band is dead, romain has talk about it
@@tomsxe i heard marco said muhammed has the whole album ready to release
Riff: Freezing Moon by Mayhem
Bands:
1. Metallica (Kill 'Em All era)
2. Behemoth
3. Green Day
4. SunnO)))
5. Rings Of Saturn
6. My Chemical Romance
7. Knocked Loose
8. Deicide
9. Limp Bizkit
10. Nirvana
11. Aerosmith
12. Gojira
13. Volbeat
14. Deafheaven
15. System Of A Down
16. Napalm Death
17. Black Sabbath
18. Exodus
19. Bolt Thrower
20. Infant Annihilator
Freezing moon in the style of Sunn would be fitting.
This would arguably be the most interesting so far
Mayhem kinda sucks
Add Shokran, Opeth, Monuments, Tool and Meshuggah to the list ;)
Now that would be HEAVY!
The Necropghagist is the most accurate shit I’ve ever heard..
Great stuff!
It's basically one of their songs
@@samuraisokolata Yeah, was thinking the same thing.
@@samuraisokolata Which one?
I think it’s diminished to be
What’s funny is mastodon blood and thunder and necrophagist diminish to be were released the same year 2004, in the same tuning whole step below and released on the same record label relapse
Gojira and Animals As Leaders were spot on!
So damn perfect for them, I really want full covers in their styles now!
i thought the animals as leaders one was really bad... if it was going to sound like animals as leaders, it needed to be more odd timed, and not so simplistic on the thumping. Tosins technique involves his first and second finger on upstrokes as well as hammer on's from nowhere mixed with the thumping for extra notes.
animals as leaders is one of my favorite bands. and tosin is one of my favorite guitarists. and this sounded like it was put together based on someone telling him what animals as leaders sounds like
@@RyanWithersAway then again maybe he's not experienced with the thumb tap, it's a pretty uncommon technique
@@FLY1NF1SH yeah i get that, i can't do it to save my life ether.
with that said though i am a huge advocate for quality over quantity and wouldn't attach my name to something that i couldn't stick behind as a musician.
in a nutshell. i have had no issues with any of his other content. i am subbed to the channel and i always enjoy his videos. but that part of this video seemed extraordinarily lazy and unprepared.
to someone who is a huge fan of animals as leaders that sounded literally nothing like them.
to be clear, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. he's a great content creator and this doesn't affect my view of him at all. i just felt compelled to comment because i saw a great deal of praise for that part specifically in the comments, and objectively i didn't really think it was worth the praise it got. i actually would have enjoyed the video more if that one part was replaced with any other band.
as a musician myself i would want feedback if i tried to emulate a technique but missed the mark so i could improve.
anyway, i'm not trying to leave toxic comments, his channel is fucking rad and i support my fellow music nerds making music for a living. if you read these comments pete, keep doing you buddy.
@@RyanWithersAway gotta disagree there.
It sounded alot like the slow part of Physical Education
The Machinehead one gave me goosbumps. Great job!
Oh, and Symphony of Destruction's riff would be awesome :D
Oh yes
Thanks for watching everybody! Which riff or bands should I do next? :)
A Black Sabbath riff maybe?
Maybe, Powerwolf next?
Or Septic Flesh?
Imperium / Machine Head
Slayer raining blood
Love the Static-X and Killswitch shouts. All of them sounded great. Those two were my favorites.
despitetherage agreed
When people tell me that everything has already been done on guitar, I’ll just point them to these videos as a primary example of why that’s a bullshit statement. Inspiring series, man \m/
Thanks! :)
@@peteplaysmusic Absolutely! Keep it up!
This is honestly the best video series on UA-cam hands down
That Toska version put a huge smile on my face...! :)
Amazing as always, Pete!
I think that someone is trying to kill me
Infecting my blood and destroying my mind
No man of the flesh could ever stop me
Butter
WHITE WALE HOLY GRAIL!
That Gojira and Toska ones 🔥🔥
I love your tone! Keep up the good work these were all fantastic!
You killed the Toska section! That and Gojira were my faves :)
I still want a riff in the style of Kyuss, pleeeeaaase!! 😀 You rock man!
This one has more of my favorite bands than any other you've done. I love it!
Pete: my original goal was 100 bands, but it was really ambitious
Also Pete: 1 riff 20 bands #52!
I dunno why but it feels like forever since I've watched one of your vids
Probably because his last video came out 3 weeks ago
Yeah, kinda does
This was awesome!!! Great job bro
DUDE I loved this video!!! I love Mastodon and Volbeat, Gojira, all of them were so good and accurate!!!! Can't wait for more 20 styles!!
Necrophagist was perfect. Also nice using the PRS for Santana.
*''DragonForce Through The Fire And Flames in 20 styles''* next ?
@@matihernandez8972 why not
System of a down
And avenged sevenfold might work as well
maybe in the style of the melvins, periphery, devildriver, morbid angel and red fang?
Hell fucking no.
I love that PRS. Great Video man
Ridiculously fantastic🤘🏾
Opeth - Ghost of perdition in 20 styles please
That would be cool but the main riff from ghost of perdition seems to opethy to change to another style
That would be a very interesting challenge to figure out.
@@austinwilson3602 Opeth songs don't have a main riff xD
Mathews Barbosa True. Except Master’s Apprentice and the 2nd half of Face of Melinda?
@@bcbitchkkv Master's Apprentice would be perfect for this!
Toska
Surreal, this video caught me! Subscribed!!⚡️⚡️
Every single one was spot on. Brilliant man
Stunning as always! Maybe "Dunkelheit" by Burzum? That's a classic, and a lot of space for rearrangments :)
Lost Wisdom is also a great idea
Pete Cottrell plays a riff from John Cage's "4:33" in 20 different styles.
Underrated comment
LMAO
The killswitch engage is so "the end of heart ache" Era!
Also the AdamD Face MEME was EPIC
LOL!
Amazing job
Take a 'pop' song riff and do it with the heaviest bands you can think of !!
Tharsgaard Africa by Toto in the Style of Fear Factory or Mayhem lmaoooo
Tharsgaard shape of you in the style of Gojira haha
Last days of humanity?
Holiday by green day in the style of aborted, infant annihilator, cannibal corpse, suffocation and necrophagist
Gojira, Static X, Soulfly and Toska! 4 of my absolute favorite bands. This is awesome!!!!
Well done dude👏, these variations are genius, I loved the Gojira one, thank you👍.
You never dissapoint me with this series!
Wow, even did the Tosin Abasi thumb! Nice touch!
Walk With Me In Hell first riff in 20 styles
Impvre IV 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This would be really cool
Megadeth "Holy Wars...The Punishement Due"next riff in 20 style pleaaaaaase!
Specially if there is Testament style in it
That’s way overdue
I’ll stop
You have to cover the main riff AND the melody on top of it at the same time. That's really hard lol
20 styles of Holy Wars is a whole time work for a year.
The whole video i was wondering when that nice color from the thumbnail would be shown and i was not expecting the unearth version! That'a hella cool, and gorgeous looking finish
David Bowie - Rebel Rebel. 20 styles of that riff please Mr. Cottrell
This is absolutely my favorite video in this series. Without a doubt. That Santana style was amazing.
Really like this series man!
One thing that i really like about these "1 riff 20 bands", is that even if i dont recognize the key riff/song, is that you always nail the sound of each band, whose style/sound you demo
OMG THAT TOSKA!!!! That's my favorite, knocking Gojira to 2nd. Awesome work dude.
Can we have have Fear of the Dark in 20 different styles?
With one of those styles being Mutiod Man
Wow! This is really well-done!
Loving this. Mastodon rocks!
This was excellent. I hadn't heard this riff before. My first time hearing it at the beginning of this video I thought it wasn't an interesting riff. Hearing it at the end of the video, it sounded awesome. My ear is better educated now.
So have you also not heard of his others?
Blood and Thunder is the opening track of the album Leviathan, not the most creative of its songs, but more of the emotional tone setter. But the album grows into something amazing and elemental. You should give it a try.
@@rickc2102 wasn't Iron Tusk on Leviathan
@@zeoalexoyea
I loved the static-x part. Can I hear more? RIP Wayne Static.
Just saw them live two days ago. Fucking amazing!
@@chris_htepo Wtf? lmao
@@nooralamgir3703 it was great
Right it was crazy good
massive respect. sick video
Absolutely awesome to see some love for Unearth. Been listening to them religiously since The Oncoming Storm 🤘
Shit I just wanted to suggest Toska when you played it... You gotta love Bea ❤
I love it. You should do a not-so-classic riff in the style of 20 classic bands. Like Sin And The Sentence, but in the style of Sabbath and Metallica and such.
dude your stuff fucking rules, I think that this video is the one that has worked out the best for me, the tonality in that mastodon song is perfect for every rock, metal, alternative genre, good riffs do.....
Awesome!
do that chorus riff from my curse by killswitch engage
Will admit never heard of toska, but that bit had me intriguided. Off to discover will check in.
Guitarist is a guy called Rabea Massaad, imo the best modern prog guitarist out there.
3:02 that Explosia reference caught me off-guard dude, LOL. Great video friend!
Do 20 riff in style of 1 band!
Animal as leaders Pete, you rock
Please make Pull Me Under in 20 styles! Btw, loved your take with BLS :D
Would love to see how you think 12 Foot Ninja would do some of these riffs
This is a series I would tune in for as often as it happened. So cool.
There’ll be another coming up in June. Thanks for watching! :)
Plz make more videos similar to this... really helpful.
I love how the Cradle Of Filth style is just a bastardized "Her Ghost In The Fog."
We need something in the style of Sleep and this is a fact
Damn they are ALL insane, each one had a special touch, a characteristic that makes you think about em' im wishing i can study music like this right now
Does Anybody else try and guess each band by listening to it for a second before looking and seeing who it is? Pete does such a great job of emulating the style that I was able to guess about half of the bands before looking to see who they were.
Awesome as usual. Please do some Devourment or Suffocation
These are all so accurate and tasteful. That Santana though! It was so "Smooth" 😎 Keep it up Pete!
Also!
Holy Diver or any Megadeth riff would be wicked.
Styles of After The Burial, Protest The Hero, Iwrestledabearonce, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravanganza, The Acacia Strain, Veil of Maya, and/or Bleeding Through.
Got the pun there. It had more of a Black Magic Woman vibe to it though.
My absolute favorite riff of all time.
Your knowledge about metal music and guitar is from other world
Holy Diver in 20 styles?
I would really love that!
Bands that I will like to hear:
-Crazy Town
-Nonpoint
-Blur
- FLINT (The band/solo project of Keith Flint)
-Hollywood Undead
-Deathlok
-Sepultura
-Interpol
-Powerman 5000
Clutch would be an interesting one bacchanal era clutch though
Something really funny about suggesting crazy town
Deathlok, Sepultura and Interpol could Be awesome
This is creative as hell. And that transition from filth to Santana was hilarious lol
One of the best riffs of all-time
Twelve Foot Ninja needs to be featured!!
Seen them live with Disturbed, wow
Yeaaaa!!! 😎
Caught In A Mosh by Anthrax. In the styles of Tool, Impending Doom, Dragonforce, AC/DC, and whoever else
I love the heads! Also that toska one was awesome
1 Riff 20 More Bands. Cannibal Corpse - Hammer Smashed Face
"Iron Man" in the style of Fear Factory (plus 19 others, of course)
This series is awesome! Introduced me to new bands too.
holy fuck, youve really outdone yourself with this one, great work!
Definitely Gojira and Necrophagist were my favorites
Dude how did you get Trent to feature in your video, holy moly
