I think we can all agree that riff from Last Baron is one of the greatest guitar riffs ever, right? It suddenly shows up like 8 mins into the song, while it would have been other bands' greatest hit, and probably it did deserve its own song. I wish the riff to March of the Fire Ants, especially with the snare pattern, was more than just the intro (and outro) :/
I've got some unpopular picks for my favorite Mastodon riffs (I love slow, dark, heavy and atmospheric riffs): - Hearts Alive outro riff - Hearts Alive pre chorus and chorus riffs - The Czar heavy and slow riff in the middle - Aqua Dementia the riffs of the ending part - Trilobite, the heavy dissonant riff - Crack the Skye, the heavy riff with Scott Kelly and the riff under the robotic voice - the outro riffs of Diamond in the Witch House -Tread Lightly intro - Intro and outro riff of Where Strides the Behemoth -All riffs of Ol'e Nessie
if it's THAT The Czar riff then yes, that is one of the best moments on that album and seeing live all the way thru last month solidified it as one of my favorite riffs bar none.
I love that every single one of their albums sounds so different from the last! You have Remission which is super sludgey and even thrashy at times followed by Leviathan which takes all the elements of Remission and adds more progressive elements to it. Then Blood Mountain you get a total blend of their sludginess and progginess combined into this almost desert rock type sound. Then Crack The Skye is just a flat out Prog Rock record followed by the much more psychedelic style they've been going with on their recent albums! Can't wait for Hushed and Grim
Better than any other band on the scene and that's a fact! I have a vastly different top 10 though. I'd have to include sleeping giant, aqua dementia, Quintessence, Trilobite, ol'e Nessie, divinations, Bedazzled Fingernails, probably some other riffs from the hunter and blood mountain as well.
I've never been a massive fan of Mastodon, but I'd always happily jam to whatever song came on. But I'd never heard The Last Baron until today and that riff is absolutely killer.
@@ronk475 sometimes they just take time to grow on you, they are a band that I’ve seen countless people say they couldnt really get into and then it eventually clicked.
