I learned something from upgrading stereo and speakers in my 307SW. The head unit does much improvement, but the speakers is not really worth the money in my opinion if the originals are not broken. They may look like a joke, but they seem tuned good for the car. I did not hear any massive difference from changing all 4 speakers to Sony. I think an underseat bass does more improvement because that is what is missing from the door speakers.

First time to hear for such a thing like that. That is not an easy task to do new wiring from radio to rear dors. Maybe you should let that task to some car electritian.

If speaker itself is not torn apart somewhere and as you said your bass sound very bad then probably speaker have some failure inside itself. Maybe it had some contact with water or just broke because of its age. Bass must be clear if its sound cracked or buzzing that means it`s done of playing for you!! I hope I helped you.
use nylon tools ffs, using a screwdriver will cause irrepairable damage. Why not replace the speaker with a better one rather than the garbage stock one

For the back seat it is better to use coaxial. And split 2-ways speaker set for the front.

There should be unused pins from the door contacts carrying audio. Just gotta find the right ones.
