This review is an all-time classic, still coming back for a laugh 7 years later and I own a DF.
I love your sense of humor and levity you bring to the situation. Thank you for highlighting the irony and ignorance we all fall pray to. To me, your video is a great reminder that you can make your point without "aggressively attacking" anybody and that we all need to lighten up and learn to laugh at ourselves.
Funny stuff. Man, I need to grow out my Mo to compliment my Df!
One of the best reviews yet on the DF!!
It is just about how it looks!
Anthony Dooley
only someone who has not tested it, and seen the results, would say that
I'm from Portland, OR and you imitated hipsters perfectly sir. Well done.
Lol from Minneapolis 😂👍
Every year, i come back to this video, for its sense of humour. And i keep finding new things to laugh about. This is definitely one of the best camera review video in terms of the entertainment it brings.
The message is sharp and the production is awesome.
The funniest camera review I have seen outside the digital rev guys...
This is by far the best gear review I've ever seen! Really nicely done FStoppers! :)
Wonderful work guys!
WOW ! such commitment to making this video ... SHOULD BE VIRAL !
I hate it, jk lol. Nice job.
You fit in so well as a hipster.
***** I dont keep sending you emails about buying shirts. I have not pushed or tried to sell just shirts since the holidays. The news letters this month have been about weekly wrap ups, a flash video adam did, RAWtalk email and today my birthday sale which is not for a shirt, it's for a strap.
The generalization is pretty bad.
Get off his email list. That would be easier than complaining.
I got the Birthday special, I had just got a BR Sport when i was in the US, but I wanted the I shoot Raw one, only took a week to get to Australia, Going to give my Sport to my sister. Happy Birthday & Thanks.
Nikon seem to miss the mark, i am holding off, what I really want it a D7100f you can guess what the f is for, or put the new controlls on the the D810.
Jared Polin hate the hair cut? Lol
Brilliant Review, Hipster Dude!!! You've earned yourself the final fashion accessory to complete your look...a 6-pack of PBR!
"like a slob" line totally got me. Getting seriously into character there!
the public has spoken
Looking back at this episode 4 years later... It still makes me laugh out loud! My favorite! Hands down!
Hands down best camera review from FStoppers..and so true
This is the most creative, interesting, and marketing-oriented review I've ever seen.
dang, i love this guy's acting. very good sarcasm and mockery of the counter-culture. subscribed.
It's not really counter though when everyone is doing it. Like apple's "think differently" by being exactly the same as everyone else.
@@KandiKlover EXACTLY!! lol! 😂
Eight years later, your tongue-in-cheek makeover looks quite tame! ;-)
This is the video that brought me to fstoppers. Been watching ever since.
despite all the satire i thought this was actually a good, level-headed review. and making fun of hipsters never gets old hahaha!
6 years later... still doesn't get old! 😂
OMG how come i didn't see this before
one of the best reviews i have ever saw
Nailed it! Big fun! Classic UA-cam still great after 5 years! Good job!
"Sooo you don't want to use the camera?"
That question nails it
This "review is amazing"... My wife thought I was watching Jimmy Fallon clips again, because I was laughing hysterically out loud in my office.
The quintessential "don't take yourself so damn seriously" video... love it...
And you made me want to go buy a DF to be honest...
"Where's the nut room?"
Sums it all up
PLEASE put more videos like this one!!!! I haven't laughed so much in so long, I really loved this video THAT much. Great work!
An in the field camera review and social commentary all in one.
Excellent, and both spot on!
DUDE!!!!! I love u!!! this was the best video review I have ever seen! I personally shoot the Nikon DF (which I love), but I also shoot the Nikon D3s as well as the Fuji Xpro 1. I love each cam for its own reasons. What you did in the piece was just hysterical and fantastic!!! You keep doin yo thing man!!!!
THIS IS SO FREAKIN HILARIOUS!!!!!
I nearly SHAT myself at the 11 minute mark . . . then he whipped out the MASON JAR for his coffee! LOL
I love the Df but mostly because I have always shot with the FM2 so it's familiar.
nomination for the best gear review of the year award! lol
this is the BEST review I have EVER seen! Forget the charts and pixel peeping, this is what a review is a ABOUT!!! KEEP IT UP!!! LOVE how you are going the extra mile to prove your point and to get at the human sociology!
Best review if the new Nikon Df... ever. This is one review that blows all of the others away, by miles!
Pretty funny Lee. Hey what cam did you use to shot this video?
This is the best review that has ever been made
The most humorous review ever!!!Very good video!!!:)
Just catching this review for the first time (8 years late). Funniest camera review I’ve ever seen - so well done!
This is the best thing I've ever seen but I'm glad they got around to actually reviewing the camera at some point.
Nice commitment to the look. Glad you got around to some real reviewing at the end.
LOLOLOL, I just discovered this video. The outfit scene in GOLD.
This was extremely entertaining :)
I've never seen anyone put this much effort into a product review.
I subscribed at the "take a picture with each camera" test.
He got me at the healthy meal and cancer stick
D810 is for Perverts did it for me lmaooo
Always a pleasure to watch videos from you guys! Nice work!
Best camera review ever...The only way this would have been better is if you did it in Portland(OR). I have lived in Oregon my whole life and the hipsterness is getting out of control.
This has got to be THE funniest camera review ever ! Absolutely brilliant. Like all Fstoppers videos - this is really well put together. Very interesting hearing people's perception of the Df based on its appearance. As a Nikon user I think it's a pity Nikon didn't think out the controls better on this one.
This is still my favorite reviews of any products
Probably the most honest review on UA-cam lol
I love the way the Df looks. It has an old 35mm look to it. Although I wouldn't take it over my D800, I was wondering why you didn't mention that the Df actually has the same sensor as a D4. And in most reviews I've seen of the Df say that it has better ISO processing than the D4. You compared it to the D600, and if I had to choose between the Df or the D600, I would definitely take the Df.
I have to agree if the price is the same though. Definitely prefer the sensor in the DF
brilliant! informative and entertaining. love the way you satirise the consumerist hipster movement, while still giving us a good review of the DF.
coolest review ever on a dslr...better than digital rev..
Lee, I'm a fan of Nikon. I'm still in the film era by continuing to use my F4e & FA camera.. I thoroughly enjoy using the Nikon 400mm & 600mm pre ED on the F4e, I've heard various opinions, but Nikon says that the only digital body that these lenses will fit on is the new Df? I know it's over rated, but do I have a choice? What's your feedback?
Thats how all reviews should look. Great job!
This has to be the most entertaining camera review I have ever watched. You make a fantastic point about the irrelevance of how a camera looks. Which one looks more attractive to a thief?
1:57 The transformation is complete!
Dying laughing all the way through, cool review.
I just got my used Nikon DF! I love it, it has a great feel and allows me to use dials and older Nikon lenses. Hipster or not! I am not a hipster and still love it since I like the older Nikon FM etc. with dials. I would say that a Nikon D4 is probably cheaper in 2020 than the DF.
It is funny in retrospect. He just completely misinterpreted this camera, or at best misjudged what it turned out to be.
This is a the perfect camera for your manual focus Nikon F-mount glass, including coupling lever. He was right about the size, but wrong about the controls, that’s why Fujifilm has had such a success with their retro design and manual controls, but also small size (including X-T# or X-Pro#). Now with the release of the Zfc Nikon has actually done what he suggested, but without the direct F-mount manual lens support… what a waste of a nice little body, but it will sell better than the Df. It is a funny world. Wish Nikon would release a full frame mirrorless f-mount Df replacement.
@@TK421-53 I find it funny also, he missed it, didn’t see the future that analog would become a trend. Back when he reviewed that camera, most were still into digital. I always find some of these older reviews interesting. I also wish they would come out with a new Df style camera. I had hoped for a a Df with the D5 sensor. But maybe a Full Frame mirrorless would be better.
I love the sarcasm in your outfit. Despite what those negative comments, you are a pro and I'm fan of your work and web page. keep up the great work you inspire me to become a better photographer.
This is by far the coolest review and this came out six years ago. Lol
defently one of the best reviews I have seeing ever!
wasn't sure how this was going to go after the intro, but super funny, nicely done!!
I own a Nikon DF, and I still think this video is so funny XD
1600
Best and most original review i've ever seen. Do more videos like this! You are awesome!
Awesome! Best Nikon DF review :)
All reviews should be this. Great job.
This has to be one of the best reviews I have ever seen. Great job : )
Well done Fstoppers! Love the part where the girl in black says "but you don't want to use the camera" XD
This is the best camera review I’ve ever seen
Hahaha! Made my day! The never ending turn signal and smoke break to top off the vegan meal were classic! Nicely done guys.
This is the best review of any product in history! I was crying with laughter.
The best gear review of the year !!!
Why is this channel so badass!!!!!!!!! Seriously has become one of my favorite the further I have dug into the videos you've posted and keep putting out! Would be an amazing opportunity to work on the Fstoppers team!
Awesome! We have lots of older content that is really good that few people know about. Maybe we will do an "Fstoppers Classics" on the front of the site soon
Fstoppers I have been watching all the older content that is seriously awesome!!!! You definitely should do some throwback classics!!! Keep it up! 🙌🏼
Cheers for giving the guys in a camera shop in Glasgow a good laugh.
Subscribed.
The cat t-shirt helped perfect the outfit. You were trolling people so much. I couldn't have pulled those interviews off without laughing. Great job!
This is by far the best camera review I´ve seen in a long time :)
I like the confidence of Lee interviewing strangers.
Awsome video!! Fun to watch. The DF to me is a half assed attempt to Cash in on the Retro look made popular by Fuji, Olympus, Sony and Panasonic. I hope Matt Grainger saw this and sells. DF made me into a Canon shooter.
OMG! Thaaaaaaaank youuuuuu!!! This is the perfect video to explain what this camera is. Today, you are my hero!
Now I will go find your original article about the camera and read it for more enjoyment.
Great video. I thought this was a prosumer camera but saw the price. $2800 body only!? I'm happy with my "lowly" X-T1 even if it's not full frame.
love this review Lee and great sense of humour
This was brilliant. I applaud you Sir.
At 17:30 you describe the new z fc 7 years in advance. Nice job! I've watched this video several times over the years. So funny!!
Words can not describe how dead on you guys were with this one. Literally Can't stop laughing. Props!!
not a Nikon shooter...just because but I love videos relating to any type of photography. This video was hilarious. You got my subscription
This is just brilliant! An honest and down to earth review.
One of THE best camera video review things I've watched on the interwebwotsit. Brilliant.
One of the most entertaining reviews I've seen. Why haven't you been on DRTV yet?
that should be ur signature review style man ... never knew u can be like this after watching ur dvd :)
wow great review.. would love to see a review like this with the Sony A7
Excellent video! But you forgot the "fondle quotient". Looks like it'd be right up there with a Hasselblad Xpan for fondling in the morning with the first cup of tea, and watching TCM (one of my favorite activities). What other people think of its looks is secondary...or even irrelevant.
This guy is a legend! And great review!
This is the greatest camera review ever!!!!
Fun.
***** yeah, as the "dp" on this video, it was a blast actually trying to setup interesting shots while still making everything a spoof.
that was so funny, nearly wet my pants, "pure (slow) photography"
@@phaskellhall He does put on the hipster personality perfectly. The way he reacts to brown leather jacket lady calling the camera for someone "hipstery" was hilarious. How you managed to keep the camera steady while wanting to burst out laughing is amazing.
What a work of art, My salute to you
This video made my day! Funny as heck
Here, here, Mac Breck. I started shooting in the film days as well and am lucky enough to remember learning the process manually. I appreciate the dials and not having to turn on the camera to know what my settings are. This guy wasted all of his time asking the opinions of people who aren't even photo enthusiasts. If he's a true pro, surely he would spend his time interviewing his colleagues about this camera.
You gotta love the peeps in chuck town !! I would love to try the DF.
I own a Nikon D800 as well as a FM2 and was previously thinking about the DF... Thanks for the video, it was most amusing!!
Seen a couple of your videos before, and liked them enough to subscribe to your channel. However, at just under the 2 minute mark, you have made me a huge fan, and I couldnt stop laughing. Bravo!
Now you guys have to do a new version for the A7c
Love the left blinker on for the scooter ride.
You've won my affection with this video, well done sir, well done.
I for one hope that Nikon continues a separate line of "pure photography" cameras. The DF is a step into the right direction but the tech guys back in the office need to let go of the overwhelming tech they included into the camera. I for one have used film cameras since 1988 and still shoot with film today.I dont represent the sport, wedding, event, fashion, photographers of today although I have shot all of the above. I do now as I did when I was much younger, shoot street and documentary photography. Personally I think the short comings are all those damn buttons. I shoot film so setting my ISO at one setting for most of day is something I can work with, again thats not for everyone. I generally shoot at iso 400, shutter I keep at 250th and slowest 125th and move my aperture to compensate for light. If that doesn't get me by then I use a flash to add just that bit of light I need to capture my subject. I know thats kinda of crazy for the standards of today but its how i learned and I am faithful to that school. That being said, my dream "pure camera" would have maybe 3 added buttons and a screen that can flip to close while shooting. I dont chimp, its a bad habit. I would need a play button, I would need a trash button and lastly a Brkt button. I would an on off switch. The only dials I need, Shutter dial, Iso dial, a dial for Single, continues shooting and ev dial to 3 stops + and 3 stops -. the only way I would need to change aperture would be on my lens. No other settings needed and no stupid menus. the rest is up to me, the photographer and my understanding of light and exposure. The tech has changed but the sun is still the same. I dont think it was brighter, darker, cloudier, stormier, snowier, or rainier when people shot film. A camera is simple. Its a lens and sensor and 3 ways to expose an image, everything else is totally over doing it. I know there is tech, but tech can handicap just as much as it can advance. hell, if they made a camera with two slots and no screen I would buy it. the joy of photography for me is the anticipation of seeing what you got, challenging yourself everyday with different light and chasing the fleeting moment. its not so much in how ways to sunday I can configure my camera to do crazy things and control other things or connect to my phone or computers. I also hate that anything I grew up with and currently use is now written off as hipster crap. that insults me in ways you can't understand. retro is hipster and hipster only? I think it should be more about what a person is willing to work with and not work with. it used to be about having to deal with challenges and overcoming them. That might hurt other people who put their ego into their camera gear. it was the same when I was growing up. The guys with the "serious" cameras mostly shot like crap. while the starving working photographers shooting with not so "pro" cameras were taking all the nice and meaningful stuff. I've said enough. last point. no matter what you have, if you don't have an eye then you have nothing. I vote for simpler cameras so we can unlock the complexity of our minds and not be handicapped by tech. take that anyway you like.
TLDR
photofx your loss bro.
Albert Brian WHOOSH! (that's the sound of point flying over your head ;-)
photofx ..... the sound of me not caring.
Albert Brian sure....yet you write a 36 lines of blah-blah ;-) WHOOOSH!
I really enjoyed watcing your presentation and review. Your view over it was remarkable and gave me a genuine laughter while you made your point, keep up the good work!
If you can digitally override the dials do you have to digitally reset it back to what the dials read every time you change it? And why digitally move them if that's what the dials are for?
WTDF! just awesome. I am still thinking about the DF as I love the retro look and having the D4 sensor would be a great pair with my vintage glass.
