Something that might be worth mentioning: the new "Elite" couplers will *also* couple to the original "A" or "B" Hunt couplings. That saves changing any stock which you've already fitted with the originals, especially if you're running fixed formations. What I think is so great about this whole "Hunt couplings" thing is: it's a problem that we've all suffered since since the early days of Tri-ang and it's been soled, not by a multimillionaire manufacturer, but by a modeller. He's not got it "nearly right", waiting for the big boys to perfect it, he's absolutely nailed it. Presumably now, he can name his price if he's prepared to let Hornby, Bachmann etc supply his couplings on their stock. After a year or two, absolutely *nobody* is going to want tension locks. HUGE congratulations to Hunt Couplings and farewell to ugly, clunky tension locks that cause derailments and look awful. Cheers for now, Dougie.
2H80vids I couldn’t agree more with you Dougie, I think these couplers are a real game changer. I’m not bothered by wanting an automatic uncoupler as I just don’t do shunting and so all my existing stock is being gradually moved over to these couplings, I have a miss-match of various shapes and sizes of D link couplings, Kadee’s etc which are all going or have now gone, eventually there will only be Hunt couplings throughout all my stock. These are not for everyone which I can appreciate especially if folk are determined to use auto uncouplers but at least now we all have a better choice to choose from. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Hi graham I was converted a little while ago and like you I am in the process of changing all my rolling stock to these couplings the hobby has been waiting for this product for years it’s brilliant because it is so simple and a brilliant idea great video cheers Graham all the best al 😀👍👍👍😁🥂
Layton Junction Absolutely Al, personally I think this has changed our hobby no end and I for one am so pleased that the horrible mixture of couplings is now gone and I can have one style that will connect together anything I have without any issues. I did have a lot of Kadee couplings but they have now been long gone in my spares box. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Great video Graham and a great improvement on the already available Hunts couplings. Your test run says it all, no problems whatsoever and the ability to couple up stock together, no matter which end you attach them to. Cheers for now buddy.................................Geoff
TRAM JUNCTION Thank you very much Geoff, these couplings have really impressed me mate, they are such a doddle to fit and work with, but the important thing is that they eliminate any derailing I was getting using the old style D link couplings and all the variation of sizes which never work well when mixed. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
Great video Graham, very well explained and I have to agree with you in that these couplings are one of the best things that has been made for model railway loco's and rolling stock in years. A true testament to the continued improvement and listening to the requirements of the modeller. I can see that you are delighted yourself with this product and could clearly hear the emotion in your voice. Regards Geoff.
Geoff Readman Jumble Lane Model Railway Thank you Geoff and you are right, I am delighted with them, I think they are fabulous and have sorted out for me one of the major problems I had which was mis-matched couplings. Yes there are other alternatives around which people can use and most I have tried, but these for me are the most simplest and convenient couplings I have used so far. I don’t do shunting as such but all I need to do is use one finger to disconnect anything - I really don’t need auto uncouplers although I’m sure others would. As with all things in this world we have choices and different needs, not one thing suits all but as for me then these new Hunt couplings are a godsend and I will certainly be using them through my stock eventually. Cheers for now mate and stay safe. ............ Graham
Hi Graham, Certainly a great new product and adds another degree of versatility & flexibility for coupling and uncoupling locos and rolling stock. The only slight criticism I have is that separation of wagons etc has to be done physically by hand, whereas the Kadee couplers have the ability to disengage automatically when a magnetic strip is placed strategically between the rails, but this system has its draw backs because unless the magnetic strips are placed in the right place uncoupling still has to be done by hand. If Hunt couplings could come up with an automatic method of uncoupling method similar to the Kadees they would be on an absolute winner. In the meantime I can still see a lot of modelers changing over to the Hunt couplers especially if they have the current British tension lock couplers. Great video mate. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Good morning Greg, I am sure that Chris will be working on some form of uncoupler in the future for the ‘shunter’ guys out there but for me then there is no need for one, especially if I can just uncouple by using one finger. If someone wants to uncouple automatically (why?) then these couplers are not for them and are better off using another form of coupler that allows for automatic uncoupling. When people are watching on say a video or at an exhibition then I can see why an uncoupler is of use but having said that then I see folk at exhibitions leaning over the track (normally over a back scene with a long stick trying to uncouple stock. So yes, you are right, at the moment then Kadee’s offer that facility but I’m sure, given time, then an uncoupler will make its appearance. I have taken off all my Kadee couplers and replaced them with these Hunt couplers as for me, they work better but that’s the great thing these days, we now have multiple choices to suit our own individual needs and requirements and that can only be a good thing. Cheers for now mate. ........... Graham
Onno Mulder Thank you Onno, these are remarkable couplers and I’m certainly sold on them. What I like about them apart from the obvious is the rigidity of the whole rake, there is no shuffling back and forth as the train moves - unlike what you see with D link couplings. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Enjoyed your review of the new Elite couplings. Just received the other day seven new packs from Hunt. Will be ordering the Elite version next time around. Thanks for your comments.
Good honest review rather than those who jump up and down and say they are brilliant. I have designed my own NEM pockets for older stock and those that are made without NEM pockets so people can use these, hunts, Kadees or what ever... NEM converters available directly through me.
Impressive review and even a more impressive demonstration.Sadly I will not be giving up on my weathered N/A Kadee couplers .But when you think about it ,what a massive step forward from Hornby couplers of the 1950’s!
Mark Fisher Absolutely understand Mark where you are coming from, no point in changing if you are happy with what you have. I have now got rid of my Kadee’s in preference to these couplings but I don’t do any shunting as such. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
terry blackman I’m sure the auto uncoupler will make an appearance in the future Terry - just needs a bit of time that’s all. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Brilliant product and well demonstrated. "Fart arsing" is a technical term for what you have to do with D couplings..I totally agree with your choice of wording. All the best Graham.
Hi again i 100% agree with you the Hunt Couplings are awesome just on my test track i can tell they are so much better and all time they add types of fitting the more easier it is to totally change to there magnetic couplings i just hope the new ones you have reviewed are Not way more expensive as we talking a lot of money to change all my Couplings over as it stands now
Anthoney King Hi Anthony, I don’t think there is a huge amount between the two to be honest but I have to admit that I haven’t been over yet to the website to check out the prices, a job to do later. I have been changing mine over on a gradual basis so as to spread the cost but have you seen the price of Kadee’s lately and you only get about 4 in a packet! Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
I have been steadily changing over all my rolling stock to Hunt Couplings. I didn't think it was going to be much of a "problem" to (hand of god - no turntable!) turn a loco round when necessary, but these just solve it at a stroke. I have only fitted one loco so far with couplings so I shall be investing in some of these in the near future. Cheers
davie maclean That’s excellent to hear Davie and as you say, can make things so easy. I personally think they are brilliant and have changed my running on the layout, things are so easy to set up now. Cheers for now mate. ......... Graham
Brilliant innovation ... and the elite version are superb. Excellent review Graham and It’s great to see your wonderful new layout working well and reliably - makes this hobby so much more enjoyable - and these coupling will help reduce the stress levels even further! 👍 Gone are the days of faffing about to uncouple tension locks. I’ll be placing an order very soon ...
Davidson Parkway Thank you very much for the kind comment my friend, they have made such a difference to the running of my stock in more ways than one, a real game changer as they say. You certainly won’t be disappointed when you receive yours, I guarantee you will be gob smacked by them. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
That's brilliant Graham, they certainly don't sit on their bums do they. Me and the grandkids like to do lots of shunting so this could be the answer. My only other problem is we have a great deal of old rolling stock so it would be quite a job glueing and screwing. But hay that's thought for the future. Stay safe Graham thanks for all the great videos, Eddy xx
eddy weller Thank you Eddy, I think it’s like a lot of things with a model railway, we’ll mine anyway, you have to do things gradually and not in one fell swoop so for me I will gradually swap these over through a period of time, I couldn’t afford to do all my stock in one go for a start let alone the time factor. As you say, a thought for the future and gradually do your stock over a period of time. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
Brilliant video Graham and a lot due to your track work. Those couplings are unbelievable, blown away by them. Who knows in this day and age but I am guessing the next thing Chris will be working on is how to automatically uncouple by putting something on the track. Nothing seems to be impossible nowadays. Regards Chris
Bognor Regis - Chris's N Gauge Hi Chris and yes, when I tried these out I too was blown away, such a neat, simple method of coupling and the result is just unbelievable, the whole train now feels rock solid as it going round the layout. Instead of waiting for something to derail or go wrong then I have complete confidence in them, so much so that going in reverse at full whack was immensely satisfying and bought a smile to my face. A real game changer. Yes, I’m sure Chris will be working on some form of uncoupler but to be honest, I don’t need it, I can just uncouple where ever I want with just one finger, you can’t get anything simpler than that. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
I like all the new style couplings that are appearing on the market, it gives the modeller more choice which is a good thing. Where you have the need for full rakes of coaches or wagons that don't need splitting then these are ideal. If you shunt or have the need to detach stock then clearly these are not the couplers to use, and others are more suited to that. Excellent review
Malcolm Crabbe Having a choice is always good Malcolm, for people to have a choice in what and how they run there layout can only be a positive thing. These particular couplings won’t suit everyone and that’s understandable so the easiest option is not to buy them and just use what you prefer and suits your needs. But I will invest in these as I am just blown away by them. As regards shunting and uncoupling then I won’t need to get an uncoupler even if one comes out, I will just use one finger to separate whatever er I want separating. But as I said, each to there own as we now do have something to choose from. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Chris Walker Have a word with them Chris as I’m sure they have already sent some to Australia, I can’t really see that being a problem apart from the time for them to get there. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
There's also their new Multi Standard Coupler - a magnet with a hole behind it that allows a Tension Hook to couple to it. Perfect for someone who wants the close coupling but doesn't need to convert their entire fleet
Steve Wood Yes there is Steve, they have a great range to suit everyone’s needs now but obviously I was only reviewing these particular couplings on this video. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Now we need a standard for mounting these so we can take them to the club on a Tuesday night and they will work with everybody else's wagons. Is it always shiny side up or shiny side down? and if you paint them, how do we know which is the standard up and standard down? I suggest Mr Hunt considers a "bump" or dimple or something on "top" or "bottom". Maybe a bump on top and dimple on bottom?
Hi Graham - good idea from Hunt couplings. I've started to covert my N gauge stock over to Hunt couplings and I'll be interested to see whether an N gauge version is produced. Like you I didn't find any issue with the original ones. The only different thing I've done is to keep a Dapol Easi shunt coupling at either end of my rakes to allow my locos to still auto uncouple and therefore I don't have any issue in locos coupling up at either end. If I'm honest the Hunt Couplings don't look right on a loco, but that is just my preference/opinion hence my reasoning for keeping the Dapol Easi Shunts on the locos and outer wagons/coaches. This gives me the best of both worlds in N gauge. Cheers Euan
The Growler - Blackwood N Gauge Layout Hi Euan and thank you for the comment. As I have said to others, we all have choices in this model railway world - couplings included. I appreciate that these will not suit everyone’s needs for whatever reason and that will always be the case. However, I can only judge these for what I need and that I think a lot of others will too and for me and my stock then these are perfect. I don’t do any form of shunting and so that side of it doesn’t bother me, I can just hook stock up and run trains - perfect. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Thanx for this Video. I have been converting my Rolling stock to a American style coupling ( avoiding using brand nsme) but they are a Tad fiddly. These are so basic, its Brilliant so that even this Half Blind ( without Glasses) could fit and use them.. The ease of Decoupling is Fabulous. I was unaware of this Style untill yesterday. And your the 3rd User to have Proven the Couplings Simplicity. ( And first without anything to gain..! True, Honest, no Bias Reveiw..!) Living in Australia things tend to Trickle Down to the Other End of the Planet over time. So your Un sponsored advice is Greatly Appreciated. So the 'Hunt' is on for a Variety of Hunt Couplers. I love the Close coupling Look which Tension Locks fail to provide. I have Subscribed. And will continue to Check in..! Thanx Everso and Cheers all. Kim in Oz. 😎
Thank you Kim for those kind words, they’re greatly appreciated and I’m pleased that you found this video of some use to you, it makes it all the worthwhile. The Hunts couplings are very good not just for the ease of coupling and uncoupling but also because they come in a varied assortment of lengths to give you different close coupling according to the rolling stock. Cheers for now mate and thank you for subscribing too. 👍🏻👍🏻. …………Graham
Morning Graham. Not just another coupling video - but "The Coupling" video for all! The proof is in the pudding, and you proved this by showing how excellent these really are. Nicely put together, with your words of wisdom mate ;-) hee hee. Real-world. Cheers Graham. Iain
M M Absolutely Iain, these are truly remarkable as far as I’m concerned, they won’t suit everyone but for me they are ideal and I can see that they will be for many other folk too. This was never meant to be a promo type video but hopefully just an honest review of what I had sent to me and hopefully that was the way it came across. I am absolutely delighted with these though as you can probably tell! 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Did you glue them into the socket? I’ve just ordered two packs based on this video but several simply pull out if the sockets when being pulled around, magnets seem strong enough but the actual clips aren’t! Plus two have broken 😢 not sure they’re a very durable material. For £35 for two packets I expected them to be trouble free.
Hi Dave and thanks for the comment. This video was made over three years ago and like you, I have since found out that although the concept was a good idea, the manufacture of them wasn’t so good, as they were 3D printed then the plastic used was too brittle and I had a few breakages too. I now have a box full of them doing nothing and have converted over to the Hornby magnetic coupling (see my last video I put up a couple of days ago) and these are so much better. They are disguised to very similar to vacuum pipes rather than just being straight bits of plastic and are no where as brittle and so no breakages when using them. Hope that helps a little. Cheers. …………Graham
Great to see a simple and reversible compact magnetic coupling and an open and heartfelt honest review. Note in comments for uncoupling it's easy to do using a finger, that could easily translate to a simple long reach tool. Will seriously look at these elites later on. Totally with you on being de-monetarised and know you give unbiased views. :-) Stephen
Stephen Pike Hi Stephen and thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed this review. The uncoupling for me is not important as I don’t do any serious shunting but if I did the I would just use a single finger to push away where you want to uncouple. But I do understand that some folk would prefer to use an uncoupler. If they do then these couplings are not for them - at the moment! 👍🏻😉. As I mentioned, I don’t think it’s on for people to monetise on a video for what is just a hobby or to be affiliated with companies to rake in even more cash. If it’s cash they want to finance the hobby then get a better paid job! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ........... Graham
This shows the responsiveness of the maker to the coupling to the feedback from his customers and by having the 2 types he lets the customer choose which they prefer. The original couplings were a great advance to other couplings and these are better but either are great
B Beck Absolutely my friend, Chris listened to what his customers were saying and developed this version, so we have even more choices now and both work just as good as each other depending what you want from them. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Very informative video Graham, I will definitely look at these when I get all my rolling stock out of storage. I think I will have my baseboard completed by the end of next week, way too hot at the moment in my attic to work...Take care...Simon
Simon -Liverton Central Morning Simon, yes these are fantastic couplings mate and you won’t be disappointed with them if you do get any. May I suggest you get a couple of packets at different lengths just to try them out once you are sorted out with the layout, that way you will then get an idea if they are for you or not without much cost to you. Although I think that once you have tried them then you will be buying more! 👍🏻😂. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
the best class 37 out there! and perfect loco for doing this video with. with Chris Hunt being a fellow modeler, he understands and pays attention to what is going on in the hobby. Now he just has to hit the North american market, and take on the Kadee market place. not sure how that would go over mind you. many people like the realistic look of a kadee They are brilliant couplers.
sparky107107 Exactly my friend, he is a modeller and has made them for the model railway community and so can understand what is needed. He is aware of the fact that there is no uncoupler yet but let’s just wait and see. Going up against Kadee’s in the US and Canada is a big ask but I will just say that most of my Kadee’s have now gone! 😂. Cheers for now buddy. ...........Graham
I thought that Hunt would have these out sooner or later and a job well thought out by Chris. A great review of them Graham and all clearly explained. Cheers as usual my friend.
They were a great idea in the first place and now (and How!!) he has made them totally universal. There is still one little problem for people making shunting layout. How can you make up or break down trains? An uncoupling device. If he can come up with one, then he will truly be the King of Coupling and hen he could buy a real train and try a set of couplings on that. Thank you, Graham, for sharing this and now I guess there will be many more about these coupling. (Richard) Martin. (Thailand) Just a thought who will be the first Manufacture to use these couplings? Hornby?
Martin Pattison Yes, no matter what manufacturer you use as regards these magnetic style coupling then no doubt an uncoupler needs to be made for the people who like to shunt with auto uncouplers although I have to admit that I can’t see the point of having one when all you need do is push them apart with one finger, I personally would prefer to do that than to have an uncoupler in a fixed place so I can uncouple very easily in any place I choose but each to their own I guess. These couplings will never suit everyone but it should satisfy a lot of folk including me. Who will be the first to adopt these? That’s anybody’s guess but I for one would pleased if they were included in the box from a coach, wagon or loco. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
@@GrahamFoulston How about a drop arm the same as the tension coupling use and a standard uncoupler. I know there is not a lot of up and down movement in the coupling, but it might work. Martin.
Martin Pattison No point in asking me Martin, you need to suggest that perhaps to Chris at Hunt Couplings. In my opinion though for what it’s worth is that what you have suggested is getting back to the similar way of the D link and that arm but just my opinion that’s all. 👍🏻
Quick question Graham, will the older style couple up with the new elite version?..I also have ones by GLR Bespoke, they use two round magnets together which can also be used anyway round
Nice one, Graham. Obviously, like a good company, once their product is out their, they will find the bugs and adapt. They seem to be doing a great job with that. Grand review and demonstration!
Anthony Dodge The Model Train Outsider Thank you Anthony and yes, Hunt Couplings do listen to their customers and act accordingly which is why I’m sure that Chris will eventually come up with the solution for a reliable uncoupler which seems to be the only stumbling block for some folk. I wouldn’t use one as I think using just one finger to separate stock is ok by me. However, I can see why people would want one before changing over to these couplings. You will never please everyone - that’s a given, but I personally think these couplings are a real game changer for my needs and I think, a lot of others too. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Great couplings. Do have a question though. How can you set up automatic uncoupling while useing these magnetic Hunt couplings. With Tension lock and Madre you can use magnets under the track. Any ideas. Nick Australia
Norman Rowe Hi Norman and yes, I know a few French words! 😂😂. I am hoping to get a video up tomorrow mainly showing the village and the cycle track - maybe even a short running session if I can get the time. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
Wayne Meakin Hi Wayne, I have 6 HST’s and have converted them all with the original Hunt couplings and they are all so much better and certainly a lot closer coupled. I won’t bother changing these as they are always together in the same formation but if you are doing these from the old Hornby couplings then the new Elite couplings would be ideal. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
Hi Graham. do you know if the Elite couplings are compatible with the original Hunt one's, meaning will the square one connect to either the A or B round ones? Thanks.
Martin Asher Hi Martin and yes they do connect up but one just slightly moves the coupling to the side - very slightly. Not enough to make any difference to strength though, the still pull without disconnecting. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Hi Graham, excellent video thumbs 👍 up from the start and well done all the way, plus a huge well done to Chris Hunt for doing the couplings and Graham you have done an excellent video blog on the presentation of the new elite version of the Hunt copings. it is definitely a game changer on the market, if only Chris Hunt could talk to the manufactures direct to have them come as a standard coupling on every, Hornby, Heljan, Dapol or Bachmann purchase including any new manufacturers out there, whether that be a Loco, Wagon or Coach. Thanks Graham.
Yes, there many different styles available for most applications including the clip on style as in the Hornby HST coaches and even screw type too. Your best bet is to go over to the website and look at the complete range. This new coupling may be a couple of weeks to get up to all the different styles but the original style is still going alongside these new versions. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
We lesser mortals will stick with Kadee, especially as the cost would be prohibitive. However for circular layouts where running modern trains they appear to be very suitable. My own small layout isn't suitable where shunting is the order of the day.
Alec Ralph Hi Alec and thank you for the comment. As I have said to others, it’s all about choice and at the moment, if shunting is your bag then these couplings are not for you although I have to say that just pushing a piece of stock away with one finger doesn’t seem much like hard work if I’m honest, but I can understand why some folk would like the auto uncoupling. Stick with the Kaydee my friend as you are obviously very happy with them even though I have swapped all mine out for Hunt Couplings which for me and my needs are far superior. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Had some of this type of coupling from GLR Bespoke services about a month ago,and as you say Graham, much easier to use than the original Hunt coupling.Keep up the good work!
jon tipper Not heard of GLR Bespoke Services until today Jon so I can’t comment on those mate. I will go and check them out. Cheers for now. ........... Graham
Great ethics Graham. Not receiving money for a review of the product. What a great product! Well done great video, so simple. The proof is in your video.
Graham, just a quick question...do these Hunt Couplers come together easily when the rolling stock is sitting on a curve ? Many couplers have trouble engaging when the wagons/coaches are on a curve. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Hi Greg, I guess that really depends on a few factors. The tightness of the curve and also where the couplings are fitted - under the body or on the bogie. Worst case scenario I think would be on a tight curve with stock having the couplings under the body of the stock being coupled, they may struggle with that just like the modern small D link couplings but until you try it then it’s a little difficult to know for sure, with the strength of these new magnets then I would be surprised if they didn’t hook up. If the coupler is on the bogie on the same curve then they will definitely couple as the bogies will virtually be pointing at each other. So a lot depends on where the coupler is mounted rather than the coupler itself. Hope that helps mate. Cheers for now. .......... Graham
i would like to get some for track A THE CIRCULAR ONES so they still stay connected on a tight angle might be best he makes these ones with a bevalled end for tight tracks
stevenage town vids Absolutely, as I said in the video at the end - they just work. 👍🏻👍🏻. You really can’t ask for more than that. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
Thanks Graham . that was a very impressive demonstration. especially in reverse but I have one question. How do the couplings perform in shunting operations? I get the impression that a single wagon may well be drawn towards the approaching loco before it actually comes to a stop
But how do you uncouple your train from your loco without hands on . Or split a train in a marshaling yard. You can’t shunt without hands on , Graham. I get that they work but I have a large marshaling yard on my railway where I make up trains with rolling stock using a small loco then bring in the loco I want to pull the train , don’t see how this could be done without hands on
DRAGON JUNCTION MK2 They really are Allan, you will love’em! 👍🏻👍🏻. Not the whole range is out yet as far as I know but a good selection are ready to buy right now. You won’t be disappointed mate! Cheers for now. ........... Graham
@@GrahamFoulston Looks like am going to be busy for a while upgrading .and far as i know the old ones fit to them as well..( i hope so ) because i have fixed rakes on the layout. So at least you could fit every loco and be safe in the knowledge they will fit any think we have..
DRAGON JUNCTION MK2 Yes they do fit each other Allan although they do very slightly move sideways as you connect them (because of the polarity of the magnets) but that doesn’t stop them holding onto each other like $hit to a blanket! So no problems there. I had no choice but to do that with the hoppers as I had only a few supplied to try out and they worked fine together. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Graham. Wow!!! These look fantastic 👍. I can just see these featuring in one of those railway adverts from the 50s: "The brand new Hunt Coupling's, coming to your local model shop now! These will work on your model railway which ever way they're assembled onto your rolling stock. With no pole difference you can couple anything up to anything. Hunt Coupling's, a bargain waiting for you." In other words, I'm fully agreed with you on these coupling's, they are simply an ingenious design! Stay safe mate, GWR
Aberystwyth Station - Great Western Railway Totally agree with you mate, they are brilliant, Hornby have four different style D link couplings to my knowledge (probably more) and they never work very well together - these solve all those issues plus you have to include the D links from Bachmann, Dapol, Heljan etc - a knightmare! Cheers for now. ...........Graham
@@GrahamFoulston yes, I really need to make the move myself. I still use the Big D's - but then with the Hunt Coupling's, they don't work for me unfortunately due to the fact that I do lots of shunting... Chris will come up with some revolutionary idea once again no doubt!
Gibs Onethirty No need to be sorry, it’s entirely your choice what couplings you use and Kadees are ok. Just not for me though. Cheers for now. ...........Graham
Hi Graham, they look really good. Personally I wouldn't mind watching an advert or two for your content to allow you to have a few more things to show us, but understand your position.
TheElsiecam I’m not really into doing reviews unless I’m really happy with the company and certainly not receiving anything from them either, so if I do anything it’s normally off my own back from something that I have bought and think that others would be interested in, this was slightly different in that I was asked to do this but with no reward at all from it - I just don’t think that’s on to be honest, not for what is a hobby after all and it’s my hobby too, why should I get money or affiliation for doing that? Anyway, thank you for the comment, it’s greatly appreciated. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Anthoney King Hi Anthony and thanks for the comment. No, you still have to buy the same amount of couplings - one coupling at each end of the coach, wagon etc and they are still supplied as pairs when you buy them. The major difference with the Elite version is that all couplings are the same so no A or B this time. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
IMHO there only one coupler that out stands all the rest: the KADEE. The most realistic. Easy to uncouple with just a magnet or a pin when you do shunting even IMPOSSIBLE with Hunt's. Easy take a wagon out of a train etc. Still the best for the price. But thanks for the demo for they may be a good replacement for the most ugly Tension lockers if you just run around trains.
The Fleischmann 6515 NEM type coupling is far superior to this system, reliable rigid but flexible coupling and you can put as many wagons or coachs the loco will handle,no parting will reverse just as good if not better, and you do not need to tug them apart to uncouple,German engineering at its best not these heath robinson couplings! and cheaper by a long way.
I have to admit to not knowing about these 6515’s Eric so I looked them up and they do indeed look good couplings and for a good price too, so I think I will get half a dozen and try them out. Thanks for letting me know and cheers for now mate. 👍🏻. …………Graham
@@GrahamFoulston Cheers Graham they are a superb coupling,i get mine by the fifty which are reference 386515 from gaugemaster or jadlam post free around fifty quid, the only drawback you get and its not the fault of the coupling,is the lack of manufacturers to stick to NEM standards, its not just the height, which they get right, ,its the length from buffers to couplings, which they do not get right lots of times,so sometimes you can not put the couplings right in,but they are a tight fit,and a speck of pva keeps them at the correct distance,i have had no problems, its pathetic of the major makers sticking with the so called tension lock coupling,it belongs back in the triang era,you see a train of high speed coachs shuffling around like a loose coupled coal train from the steam era,the 6515 is brilliant, you can have 3 wagons coupled up and lift out the middle one without disturbing the outer wagons, they couple up and uncouple so well,i think you will find out if you try them just how good they are,Best Wishs Eric.
The stability of the whole train with the rolling stock was impressive. No wobble at all. Superb. Great video.
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
I feel that running that speed in reverse, is also a tribute to the p way department for laying such a good track.
Sid Smith He he, yes Sid, I’ve got a good gang at the moment who lay the track and look after it! 👍🏻😂.
Cheers for now mate. ........... Graham
a loco going full speed in reverse...wow!! fantastic....sold!! great video as always graham..! well done mate!!
skyfall 23 That is one hell of a test for all couplings! And it didn’t falter at all as you can see. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Great review of a stunning product!!! Thanks for sharing Graham. Cheers Onno.
Scottish Norfolk Southern Fan That’s excellent - you won’t be disappointed! 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Good honest review rather than those who jump up and down and say they are brilliant.
I have designed my own NEM pockets for older stock and those that are made without NEM pockets so people can use these, hunts, Kadees or what ever...

@@GrahamFoulston yes done well with them over 1500 sold expanding our range in July and September

So simple yet so affective. Now to come up with an auto uncoupling system. Very good review.

Brilliant product and well demonstrated. "Fart arsing" is a technical term for what you have to do with D couplings..I totally agree with your choice of wording. All the best Graham.
Ewood Railway Yes, I chose my words carefully mate just so that I didn’t get too technical ! 😂😂😂. Cheers for now buddy. ...........Graham
Cheers
PS - nice bit of progress on the village scene
davie maclean That’s excellent to hear Davie and as you say, can make things so easy.

Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
We do converters... Vectis models as I have kit and older stock that require NEM pockets for Kadees.. See my workbench videos.

The Enigmatic Gamer Thank you my friend, that’s very kind of you to say. Cheers for now. ............
Thanks Graham, great review. Regards Charlie
Chadwick Model Railway Many thanks Charlie and I’m pleased you enjoyed it. Cheers for now buddy. ............ Graham
Well reviewed Graham, you've convinced me. Now we have to see how we go about getting some out here in Australia, cheers and stay safe

Cheers. …………Graham

Peter Shaw - Chapel End Junction They certainly are a game changer Peter and pleased that you enjoyed the review. Cheers for now. ..........Graham
Now he just has to hit the North american market, and take on the Kadee market place. not sure how that would go over mind you. many people like the realistic look of a kadee
They are brilliant couplers.
sparky107107 Exactly my friend, he is a modeller and has made them for the model railway community and so can understand what is needed.
Being able to run that fast in reverse is amazing Graham.
Greg Dean It is indeed Greg and a true testament to the couplings. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
Quick question Graham, will the older style couple up with the new elite version?..I also have ones by GLR Bespoke, they use two round magnets together which can also be used anyway round
Have you tried these on the Bachmann 170 type dmu and if so which ones ? Are to use ? And a good review .
HI Graham Very good video and couplings work very well. Cheers Dave.

I think these are a must for my new HST.
Is there any auto uncoupling system you could use with these?

Any good for Dapol megafret wagon set?
Are these couplings adaptable to old style coaches and wagons that do not have NEM pockets. cheers
Cheers for now mate. .......... Interesting video thanks for sharing
Hi Alfredo, you can buy them from here: www.westhillwagonworks.co.uk/hunt-couplings-c-2/ Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. ………. Graham
Cheers for now. .......... Graham

DRAGON JUNCTION MK2 Yes they do fit each other Allan although they do very slightly move sideways as you connect them (because of the polarity of the magnets) but that doesn’t stop them holding onto each other like $hit to a blanket! Wow!!! These look fantastic 👍. I can just see these featuring in one of those railway adverts from the 50s:
"The brand new Hunt Coupling's, coming to your local model shop now! These will work on your model railway which ever way they're assembled onto your rolling stock. With no pole difference you can couple anything up to anything. Hunt Coupling's, a bargain waiting for you."
In other words, I'm fully agreed with you on these coupling's, they are simply an ingenious design!
Aberystwyth Station - Great Western Railway Indeed, I’m sure he is working on that or at least have plans to work on it. 👍🏻
love the video
Michael amazing hobbies Thank you Michael. 👍🏻. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
Sorry, I'm staying with Kadee's. 354 ore wagons need solid couplings.
Graham
gREAT vLOG and news re couplings but haven't Hunt shot them selfs in the foot as before I had to buy more couplings now I can buy less ??
Anthoney King Hi Anthony and thanks for the comment. No, you still have to buy the same amount of couplings - one coupling at each end of the coach, wagon etc and they are still supplied as pairs when you buy them. The major difference with the Elite version is that all couplings are the same so no A or B this time. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
Stubborn me will still use screw links and fiddling with a bent paperclip to get them uncoupled even after watching this😂
Great for a DVT rake of coaches.......
Edd Herring Absolutely Edd. Cheers for now mate. .......... Graham
Fascinating. I wonder how he achieved that.
Ian B Indeed, I wonder? 😉😉. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
