You are something special youngin and I like 👍your style. Keep up the good work and if you could do something on Commodore Perry Owens. Hell, I see you already did.
Apologies for the gaming reference, but the way you described fisher in the early segment of the podcast really reminded me into the high level players of red dead online. Fancy guns, fancy outlandish clothing, it’s just funny to hear someone actually existed in the old west that dressed as such. I keep my character as historically accurate as I can, but don’t get me wrong I got my shares of fancy guns and hell my gun holsters aren’t exactly subtle neither. But glad I came across your channel man.
It is fitting you speak about how flamboyant he dressed. I know he was with Ben Thompson at the time of his demise, but have always questioned why he had a photograph of Ben Thompson on his person. That seems somewhat intimate/personal to me, especially at a time it was not necessarily easy to get photographs taken.
King Fisher's pistol was buried with him originally, but was taken from his coffin when the body was moved to make way for a new road/highway. The pistol is now supposedly in the possession of the owner of Cimmarron Firearms - Mr. Mike Harvey. It's a nickel plated and ivory handled colt. Mike Harvey has a UA-cam video on it: ua-cam.com/video/0leFhz7_4jo/v-deo.html

Josh you're the man. I sub here and got turned onto your podcast awhile ago and been playin catch up. From one Texan to another. You keep that damn good work up son.
Why isn't he as well known as other gunfighters? Such as Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday, John Wesley Hardin, etc. He is hardly ever mentioned when speaking of Wild West outlaws... I wonder why this is.
A lot of well known people in those days are obscure now while others - like Wyatt Earp who wasn't all that famous - are very well known. Hollywood has a lot to do with that.
Capt. James B. Gillette of the Texas Rangers said most Rangers dressed similarly when not on the trail, he described one of his own outfits which incorporated a wide brimmed Mexican Sombrero with a silver hatband, embroidered bolero jacket, shaggy chaps, and embroidered high heeled boots with spurs with large Mexican rowels . Westerners could be real dandies when they wanted to be, especially Texans.
The stealing of Mexican and Texan cattle continued into the early 1900’s. My great great grandfather was rumored to be collecting and storing stolen cattle in Oklahoma, because being across a State Line from your crime was a big deal back then. The cattle were then trucked to pasture in a remote, wooded area close to Lancaster, Missouri, where they would be prepared for market. It’s been rumored that the abandoned winter quarters of the defunct Ringling Brothers Circus, which were just outside Lancaster, were used to tend to them but there’s no evidence for that other than family legend. My dad remembered watching one of the last shipments, which would have been around 1937. As an older man what he remembered was huge horns and aggression. Being fed hay by humans out of the back of a pickup for a few months apparently domesticated them enough that you could get them through a sale barn without multiple gorings. Family Legends. The people. Pretty sure the stories are true. 😂
@@WildWestExtravaganza Absolutely. Anytime a UD is investigated, the first thing that should be done is to have the weapon inspected by an armorer, because weapons can malfunction for a variety of reasons. The most common is excessive wear, but there are many reasons that don’t fall into the “user error” category. Additionally, ammunition can be faulty, which is why entire lot #s are pulled out of service when even one round is found defective. Soldiers are certainly responsible for maintenance and service of their weapons, but they are not armorers, and they are not trained to see microscopic cracks in metal, nor are they supposed to be breaking a weapon down beyond field stripping. @@WildWestExtravaganza For Example the ones who kill the reno brothers were indeed a vigilance committee which may sound off but is not actually the same thing as an angry Mob. They did not kill the Reno brother's sister Lara or John after he was released from prison, despite the fact that Lara threatened to kill them and according to John and witnesses she was just as good with a gun as her brothers who were not shabby. The committee that hung Henry Plummer did not hang the two teenagers they caught with Plummer because of their youth, but told them to warn the others that their murders would not be tolerated.
