Listened to the podcast on my morning walk. There's NOT a single show I haven't enjoyed, learned from, and shared. I believe in you guys. I like the "DUUUUUDE' attitudes, and the studio setting. As an older sister of 6 brothers, and the mother of 3 grown sons, and now the grandmother of 1 grandson, I know that men need, more than ever, men who follow Christ and are still MANLY (duuuuudes that can relate)!! Again, I believe in you guys, and want your work to continue!!! Thank you!

While I agree that astrology and horoscopes are to be ignored, Ryan Scheel came across overly antagonistic. If the goal is to win over others, this isn't the way to do it. If the goal is to preach to those that already agree with you, it still isn't quite the way to do it. Jimmy Akin did a good job going over this topic without being so insulting.
Its put in context though. Its seemingly harmless at first to believe horoscopes, but when times are tough and we need help or answers this pseudoscience can cause a lot of damage to us. God looks after us pseudoscience doesnt. I like Ryan's jolie style

The heart wants God, but when people are too selfish or disbelieving to accept Him, they fill that emptiness with dumb stuff. Can you believe that there is a trend that some people believe in the paranormal, but still won't accept that God exists? They believe in demons and evil spirits, but do not believe in a Creator-God-- a real personal Spirit of God that loves and cherishes us? I suppose not, since that would mean that there are matters that are out of our hands, and that we should accept the uncertainties in life and trust in His direction for us.

I'm a Trad Catholic. St T Aquinas says the planets influence our lives. There were about 15 Popes who were astrologers or had them in the Papal Court. Since the Middle Ages, the Catholic Universities required Physicians to master astrology, esp medical astrology. All Physicians before that time, regardless of religion, or since that time, esp Catholics were astrologers. Hippocrates said that a doctor who is not an astrologer is not a doctor but a fool! Astrology is science, applied mathematics, doesn't lead to the occult nor is of the occult! Dante ascribed a planet to each capital sin, one of the doors to Chartres Cathedral shows the astro signs, some churches had the astro signs in stained glass windows, even some Tridentine Missals show the astro sign each month. Plz do your research fairly! Astrology does not predict, only shows patterns in our lives, strengths, weaknesses, can show also diseases we can suffer from, etc. God Bless You!

I'm new to Catholicism but it seems like the devil uses all sorts of tricks to make people believe these things just as evidence that they aren't truly followers of Christ.

I heard on Ave Maria radio recently that someone did an experiment where they gave a bunch of people the exact same astrological portrait, supposedly based on their exact birth time and place, but it was really the astrological portrait of a notorious serial killer. A high number of the people agreed that it fit them to a t! Hilarious. However, I know people who believe in astrology and other metaphysical things, and there is lots more to it than the daily horoscope in the paper, and you aren't really helping anyone move away from this practice by just saying "it's dumb". St Augustine had an amazing mind and he was an astrologer for a really long time before his conversion.

I'm glad father you all spoke about this topic ,because I never believe in Horoscopes and when a friend read the horoscopes and read mine ,but I told her I dont believe in it and after time I heard some people start joining the Kabalah ,who always think they have the right belief and criticize our Catholoc religion and a friend,who is catholic and joined kabalah and he annoys me ,by telling, co workers and customers who come to our office, reading peoples horoscope .then he gets mad for me saying ..please dont tell me about my star,because I dont believe in horoscopes, I have faith in only God only believe in God and have faith in God..🙏.

This was a fun one.
In India, astrology is so dominant among Hindus that to begin auspicious events like weddings, a new business or birth of a child they use astrology. In fact, every Hindu person has a "kundali card", with the time of birth, date, day and position of stars. This card is ready and waiting for consultation during times of problems and to decide dates of auspicious events. The days of the week in many Indian languages are named after the planets and stars.
It is very difficult to get even an educated Hindu to think out of this calendar and to do away it's importance for decisions. There are auspicious times to get a child out of the womb(c-section), as Father Rich said, manipulation of divine order and time. What is more divine or auspicious or unique than the natural birth of a child?
True sad thing is that some Indian Catholics have adopted the practice too. I had an Indian Catholic girl in my class who was named after her parents consulted an astrologist. We are Singaporeans, a supposedly very developed country but these beliefs are rampant.

When I was very young, ignorantly I used to read the horoscope trash. As soon as I found out God prohibited it, that was the end of me reading trash. I raised my kids NEVER to entertain trash like horoscope, card reading etc. it pollutes the mind! Very funny and eye opening episode!

A memory of times gone by: My very devout Catholic auntie insisted I let a gypsy tell my fortune. I learned that I would be crossing water [I lived on Cape Breton Islands!] and I would be having a child. I asked if the child would be male or female. Her response was YES. I laughed, embarrassed my auntie, but knew it was entertainment! In later years, I became a Roman Catholic teacher. I did, in fact, have male and female students - sometimes 40 at a time. Retired now, watching your talk show. I am blessed.

I watched this video as a Catholic who has somewhat gotten into astrology. Its very complex, yet I don't believe in it to the extent of it being my faith and replacing my belief in Jesus Christ. There are many many coincidences that actually align with individuals from their natal birth charts, which is why we are not only "12 basic personalities". Seeing these alignments made me want to understand how its so accurate? Not just for me but for others who have done their own natal chart. I won't replace my faith in God because he's always been there, and listened and I've felt it. But because he created the stars , planets, and rest of the universe..it only makes sense that it make sense..? Like how the moon may have an affect on our moods, it affects the tides of the sea and after all we are 70% water. But of course it's all to an extent, and I wouldn't take it so literal. After all we are created of the same particles the rest of the universe is made of. "For dust we are and dust we will return."

I was VERY into it for a long time. I was blown away by certain “ accuracy “ of my planetary assignments if you will, and the thing is, I still think that there is a lot of interesting validity however, the reason why I stepped away is because it is completely blasphemous, regardless of how accurate it may, or may not be sometimes or ever. To believe that your identity was written in the stars, not necessarily giving credit to God, but a vague idea of The Universe to replace God subsequently becoming your own God, thinking, therefore you can predict the future, and certainly assess other human beings based on their astrological charts it becomes a very dangerous, slippery slope of sin. For me, it was the one thing that peaked my interest most in any of the new age occult practices, and it ended up becoming a gateway for so much deception lies and manipulation. It led me to manifestation in the law of attraction tarot among a few things, and most importantly, and most shameful, my questioning the existence of God and Jesus Christ as my savior. My life was full of chaos and confusion..It’s definitely one of Satan‘s favorites in his bag of tricks to seduce us away from what matters most.

I have read that the night sky on the night Our Savior was born showed the constellation Virgo as well as others telling them that a king was being born to a virgin. They followed a star to him. The book of Revelations have a whole bunch to say about signs in the heavens. That said, Catholics have the Bible, the Church and tradition.
So, as a millennial woman, I can confirm I have been to plenty of dinner parties where astrology had a special segment of the conversation. And I was always on the Ryan S side of life during those... XD But, seriously, it can be exhausting, annoying. And, I think, for the ones who really get involved in astrology and all the craziness around it, via New Age, even dangerous. I know people who regularly get there solar revolutions read or whatever. I even know people who believe they can contact "spirits of light" to "open portals" and "read the ancient registers" of other people. And some of them, when asked, cant give any reason or point to any book about that rituals. Meanwhile, some people who do this staff and cant justify why they do, think being Catholic is nonsense. Excuse me, we have Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Saint Paul, and even Christ Him Self... Who can you quote on me, some woman with a bandana, that has being saying what ever pleases people for a decade now, and even said on January 2020 that that was the perfect year to TRAVEL and MEET NEW PEOPLE? Really??

I've been a Catholic my whole life, but haven't always lived it out accordingly. At the beginning of this video I'm not going to lie, well, at the beginning and throughout lol, I was offended in ways.... Just by the tone and attitude towards people who believe in this stuff. Once you get into it, it can become heavily influencial and it can become very real in our minds. However, I ignored that and watched the whole thing and I really appreciate the scientific and HISTORIC facts presented. For the first time I can really question astrology from a Catholic perspective, in a way that is logical. Thankyou.

This episode would have been better if there was less simple Astrology-bashing and saying "it's dumb" and more of a logical layout of a) how the celestial alignment has changed since the creation of astrology, b) the discovering of more celestial bodies since the creation of astrology, c) how astrology is unscientific when the Church is very scientific, and d) how the expansion of Catholicism included signs and symbols from local cultures to help people understand. Great idea for an episode but very poorly executed. :(

If your goal was to convince anyone that Astrology was fake, you failed by mostly dismissing it as dumb. I like your show, I really do, but if you want to change people's minds you have to structure your arguments better
were there astrological signs that led the wise men to Jesus?
I agree in general but I must say that the whole nativity gospel indicating the Messiahs birth was written in the stars and planets so the Three wise men foresaw. Relativity. So do not condemn what is not know by you. Then the sky grew dark. Gods own work. One has to be very careful not to let it rule you, but learn to discern. Did not God alone name all the stars, etc? God rules, OK.

Zodiac, are the twelve constitutions that only apear at certain times of the year. Often used in astrology.

I had no idea Americans in my generation are into astrodivination, so this is all the more important. It didn't interest only annoyed me, so I ignored it. I did not know it was a trap and addiction for atheists looking for meaning. I now under stand how. The only astrology that interests me is astronomy, science of stars and planets. How do hope to bring atheists who became addicted to astrodivination to faith? Would prescribing popes and saints for each zodiac sign to study appeal to them? I do not know what would work.

I'm guessing the three men on the show are life-long city boys. Using the Zodiac when gardening is not only sensible, but shows results. It is based on determining in which constellation or "sign" the Moon is located. Zodiac use in this method is not mystical, & has much more to do with lunar forces on tides & other things. The moon dictates tidal activity, & it isn't ludicrous to think such gravitational influence would also be present in plants, which are mostly water & for the most part locked into place. I'm a rural-dweller, gardener, & my fields of study & now my career are in ecology & natural resource management. While I'm not claiming to be an expert, I'd recommend healthy skepticism rather than outright ridicule.
There are signs which are the most beneficial for pruning to enhance or to slow new growth, signs for harvesting tubers as opposed to plants whose "fruit" is borne above the surface of the Earth, signs for sowing, & for clearing a garden. This ties back more closely to the roots (no pun intended) of agrarian societies & the necessity of knowing the proper times to maximize crop yields. Yes, the application of the Zodiac as some method of foreknowledge of our lives is ridiculous. Just don't throw out the baby with the bath water. I guess this puts me in the same camp as Aquinas, so good company.

We talked about that exactly. That the zodiac would be useful as a timing system for planting, and that Aquinas said that the influence of the celestial bodies in a purely physical sense (not metaphysical) is logical.
Humility comes first and with that comes study. Can't judge or presume without thorough self-study on a topic. People who talk about topics they themselves haven't studied is just ignorant no matter if it is a topic such as astrology. It's the same as protestants judging Catholics. Pharisees judging Jesus. Study, immerse and reflect before passing conclusion or authority on any topic.
In my own pursuits, astrology is merely theoretical psychology.
It's also not a God. It's merely a language and a map of celestial terrain, cogs in the wheel.
Similar to the study of nature on Earth & it's influence on human psychology.
Everything ultimately walks a person to God.
As the universe so the soul.
*Side note: I am not a convert, I am a cradle Catholic. I have a degree in psychology. The perspective I've been given has 100% in fact allowed me to guide my students into RCIA and baptism. Astrology has helped them come to terms and understand their own inner manual and as such revel in God's design. I do not subscribe to Pop Astrology as perpetuated by most media, and most people's general understanding of the topic.
Complex astrological charts map spiritual clockwork, a much broader perspective beyond our understanding of annual seasons. God's plan is set in motion and visible through these maps and patterns through time. For the average person, it is not needed, not advisable as they approach astrology through the ego and self-interests. The same as how psychology is not for everyone. Those who dive into psychology to manipulate others have impure intentions. With all being said, there comes a time when understanding the mechanics of the soul and universe and God isn't needed. That is where faith occurs. There is also a time when an understanding and knowing IS needed. God give our souls more free-will then the average human understanding can comprehend, beyond even existence in this physical vessel.

Astrology came first dudes.It was based on the Geocentric model of the cosmos. Astronomy came later based on the Heliocentric model.Both are correct.Its no contradiction.If you want to know what's happening on Earth you look to the geocentric model of astrology for it is here that things happen,not on the Sun.If you want to fly to the Moon and need knowledge of the Sun,it's movements,solar radiation and so on then you need astronomy.

I think you guys can be very annoying! I totally agreed with everything you said. It was a very interesting segment, but you need to drop some of the "dumb/stupid" talk!! You can get the point across without being so rude. I wanted to share this video, but I felt it would be too disrespectful to those I wanted to share it with.....ones who, by the way, are very near and dear to me! and I don't want to push them further away by insulting them! I suppose it was meant to be funny?? but, as I said, it kept me from sharing it. :( For some reason the word "humility"....freedom from pride or arrogance....just popped into my head!
Then why did some Popes have court astrologists? Why is the Zodiac represented in the Vatican? Astrology can be used as a road map for your life and still be Catholic. There is a LOT more math involved in a horoscope than just sun signs. Study it a bit more and speak to Christian astologers befor thumbing your noses at it.

Not sure how these guys will explain the three Magi and the fact that they read planets, planetary alignments etc in order to find where and when the messiah would be born, and the Bible and Saints were cool with this.. Astrology is demonic. I used to cast horoscopes...charged $20 a piece for personality traits and how you will react to various happenings. I didn't try to attempt to tell the futures. You have your sun sign which determines where and when you were born. Your Aries is my Rising signs My sun sign is Capricorn . Your rising sign is where the opposite your sun sign shows your personality is aries. Capricorn are somewhat morose, pessimistic and have bad knees, and make good accountants. Well, my knees are fine, but I suffer from depression and am an accountant., tend to want to be left alone. Aries is outgoing, funny, life of the party, etc. The placements of the the stars at your sunrise affect other things. It doesn't depend on if these stars are actually over many, many years, centuries etc. But even with people I don't know the person for whom I cast, the conclusions are downright uncanny. It is of the devil. The same is true of the I ching (pronounced yee king), Yoga is especially DANGEROUS because it really pulls you into another world, pendyulums used to determine the future...same with automatic handwriting. However, the pendulum actually told me Jesus was Lord! I didn't believe about the personification of evil...just good spirits and bad spirits. Why do we need salvation? Reincarnation made more sense to me...I thought Jesus and Christianity were just plain silly. Then an Indian guru named, Meyer Baba said that because Jesus was an avatar he had the power to take up the karma of his generation...that made sense to me. It took two years to get from Jesus Lord and Savior. I I introduced the boss's daughter into the occullt.

Mr. Hughes called me into his office (he had never done that before) and in a firm and commanding voice told me " All you need to know IS THING you need to know is Jesus and Him crucified!" Well, the rest is history although from that time until I was received into the Roman Catholic Church was about 9 or ten years. This could go on and on...for a year I was an Anglican sister. When I left All Saints they told that if I couldn't find an Episcopal church go to a Catholic, which I did. During my first communion I experienced a far different reaction...something was surprisingly and happily different! This was before RCIA so a friend and I were shortly making our first confession (I had been baptized in a Baptist church by immersion), then confirmed and rest is history. We went to Mass everyday before work. I'll never leave the true church with Jesus Christ as it's Head. Praise and thank you Jesus!

I believe in Jesus christ and on how the world came to be by almighty father. But listening to this strikes arrogance to me and i don’t think that’s how Jesus wanted to tell his story.
