I started to use the Percept 100 about 2 weeks ago. I have used an Ezone 98 for the last 2 years so it was always going to take a lot for me to consider a switch to a new frame, but just felt I could do with a little more control as sometimes the power / my technique would send it long with the Ezone. Apart from that I have loved the Ezone 98 and had no complaints at all with it. After only about 10 hours of play I decided to use the Percept in my next match, having my Ezone in the bag in case I had made a terrible mistake! Just to note this is first ever 100 inch frame so was slightly worried that I was making a backwards step. The Percept was amazing though and not once was I tempted to take the Ezone out of the bag. I certainly felt I had more control; my serves were more accurate. I hit more aces than I have ever hit in a match, just through placement rather than power / speed. I felt I could hit the angles with confidence and although I still sent a couple long (as we all do) as long as I got the top spin right the majority of deep shots fell in the court and I would say my error rate was a good 50% better for deep shots. I still think the Ezone has more power overall, but the Percept 100 frame is not lacking in power, and I had it strung at 50lbs to give me any power I was missing from the 98 inch frame. Also it’s a 16 / 19 pattern so I didn’t feel as if I lost any spin as top spin is a big part of my game. Still early days, but at the moment I cant see me moving back to the Ezone, so feels like my first major change in racket since the Ezone was released two years ago!!!
After demoing the Percept 100, I would sum it up like this… If Wilson & Yonex hooked up in a bar in Shibuya, and had a one-night stand.. the Percept 100 would be the result 😉 Really looking forward to play testing the denser model (100D). The new Blade v9 (98s) and Percept 100s are gems in an overly saturated market of this versus that.
Hello. The specifications of this racket look very similar to Dunlop cx 400 tour. Can you make a comparison between them? Power, comfort and handling mainly. thanks.
I'm wondering whether it makes sense now to think of the Percepts now as two different series, both kind of Head-control-racket competitors, with the 100s having characteristics somewhere between a Head Speed and Gravity lines, and the 97s somewhere between Prestiges and Radicals.
For all that don't like the "low feel" from the vcroe pro and now percept, try to exchange the cushion grip. The yonex cushion grip has a white felt under it that is filtering too much the feel from the racquet.
Great review. I am waiting on demos of 100, 100D & 97 and look forward to hitting them! Wondering which will be the best for my serve, which tries to be an aggressive/heavy kick serve. With my VC98 serve is great when IN, but I have to pick larger targets or risk a lower percentage. The video reviews are great, but do you know about when the written reviews will be posted on the website? I enjoy comparing scores and detailed comments from playtesters who tried both 100s. Thanks for the great content and feedback!!
As far as the kick serves go, and the precision to hit targets I would think that the Percept 97 (310) will be a really good one for you. Although it is a 310 gram frame, it maneuvers very easily with its swingweight. That said, it is hard to say if you will find the 97 head forgiving enough until you try it out. As far as the written reviews go, they usually take a few weeks or longer after the video, due to a pretty extensive editing and writing of the comments. We will hope to have them up as soon as we can but I would likely give it about a month or so before the written reviews are posted. Regards, Troy TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy!! Had my first hit w sticks today and loved them. Need to add a little weight to handle of regular 100 as it felt too light and I’d bring it up to spec w 100d with open pattern. D felt the best swinging in the air, but I think I like the open pattern better. I REALLY want to like and buy the 97. It does everything better when I have proper footwork and technique. Just hit with it again and I was late on shots, while it has a lower swingweight the 100s are more maneuverable imho.
@@gabrieljimenez6952 How'd you with the Percept 100? I'm looking at the VCORE 98 and wondering how it compares to the Percept 100?... I've been hitting a VC100, which I like, but wanting a bit more control and thinner beams. happy to sacrifice a little power... which is why I was considering the VC98, but the Percept 100 seems to offer similar specs, but with the larger head and stiffer frame...
@@Bainesee The Vcore 100 is a beast. I tried it once and it was too much power that I could not control. I also have a one handed backhand, which feels better w/ thinner bean and smaller head. VC98 & Percept100 had very similar power levels. VC98 hits a consistently heavier ball due to increased spin, but I feel you need to embrace spin and use it on almost every shot to gain control. The Percept 100 can be hit with spin (not as heavy as VC98) to rally and easier to flatten out when hitting an approach shot or winner. My timing wasn't great on forehand, but I hit a few flat lasers. I was struggling more on my OHBH. Ultimately, both with give you increased control. If you like hitting most shots with spin, VC98 may be a great fit, but if you are a flatter hitter then the Percept 100? Please share your thoughts as you demo. Hi Brittany, could you please compare the Percept 100 to the Vcore 100 on maneuverability, control, spin and feel? Does the Vcore have a lot more power or just a little more? Thank you
I would say the Percept 100 offers more control and maneuverability. The VCORE 100 2023 offers more spin and power. I would say there is a significant bump in power (but still controllable) in the VCORE 100 compared to the Percept 100. In terms of feel, I preferred the VCORE 100 (as it reminds me of the VCORE 100 S I used 12 + years ago). It offers a plush response but with some feedback. The Percept 100 is more dampened feeling. Brittany, TW
The Percept 100 in general is a bit more control oriented, having that slightly more traditional straight beam type of design. Compared to the EZONE 100, you will find the Percept 100 to be similar in maneuverability, both being pretty fast feeling and spin friendly, but the EZONE 100 packs easier power and just a livelier response overall. The EZONE 98 feels a bit more stable at 305 grams unstrung, and there is a bit more precision from the 98 head, but it still has easier energy return or that lively response the EZONE's are known for. Troy, TW
A little more control and some find a bit more dampended feel from the Percept 100, and a bit easier power and some find a bit more solid feel from the Speed MP. That said, the feel part is highly subjective. Troy, TW
Hello TW! Thanks for a great video, would the Percept 100 be alright for a beginner who is developing a one-handed backhand? I feel that I do over launch the ball sometime with I demoed the Ezone 100 and the Pure Drive 100. Any idea on when the Percept 100Ls are releasing?
How would you compare the Vcore 100 2023 to the Percept 100. Does the Percept have the control the Vcore is lacking but still enough spin and power for a 3.5-4.0 player.
Thoughts on how the Percept 100 compares to VCORE 98?? -- I'm currently trying a VC100, which I like, lots of power and spin, but I'm wanting something with a little more control and consistent feel (and thinner beams), hence I'm thinking VC98... but now I see the Percept 100 has similar specs to VC98, but with larger head and more stiffness.. would you say the P100 sits somewhere in between the VC98 and VC100, in regards to power & spin?
The Percept 100 could be a good option for you if control and feel is what you are seeking. The flat or slightly more squared off beam of the Percept line and VCORE Pro before that, is designed to give more of that traditional control. It is not quite the same, but more traditional box beam frames are like the Pro Staff and Prestige. The VCORE 98 will give you much of a similar feel and performance as the VCORE 100, but in a slightly smaller head size, which adds to the precision of the racquet. Troy, TW
Typically speaking you can make some adjustments with string and tension, you can also try to increase power by adding some weight (like tungsten tape) to the head of the racquet, up at the top is the most common for adding power. That said, sometimes the feel and the stiffness or flexibility is hard to compensate for with string and/or added swingweight. Troy, TW
Yeah the 100 could be a good one to try, offering good control, feel, comfort, but the 100 should give you a little more power. If you want even more power, check out the EZONE or VCORE line. Troy, TW
How does the Percept 100 compare to the Prince Textreme Tour 100 310 (the black and green version)? In terms of maneuverability, feel, forgiveness, the power-spin-control balance?
A bit more control, and easier to maneuver with the Percept 100. The Textreme Tour 100 (310) provides a bit easier power, and packs a bit more plow through. Troy, TW

Of the two racquets, the Percept 100 will be the better option for the loopy forehand, and topspin in general. That said, the power doesn't come as easy as the Blackout 300 racquet. I feel like the Head Extreme Tour is a good middle ground; it is great in terms of spin potential, has a nice solid feel, and is rather user-friendly for the one-handed backhand. Troy, TW
I tried the Extreme Tour but did not like it that much. Also, I have not been able to adjust to the isometric shape in Yonex rackets. Hoping that Solinco release a 18 x 20 Blackout soon and maybe in a 305 gram version with a bit more plow through.
Do you get good access to spin in the 100 or is it more designed for flat hitters? How does it compare with other 100 inch frames in terms of spin generation?
The Prince ATS Textreme Tour 100P is a great option for a 305 gram frame, and has a pretty openly spaced 18x20 pattern. Are you looking for easy spin? If so, I would think that you would want to stay away from 18x20 patterns. The spin potential is pretty good with the Percept 100, maybe not the most spin friendly like a VCORE 100, or Head Extreme MP, but still found that we could generate spin without struggle. Troy, TW
