Let the comments stop.
I am appeased. (Not that I commented on any of previous videos)
Yeah fine, I'll give you a month before I start commenting about Metroid zero mission
"UA-cam 4: 56 - And Choctopus said, 'let the comments stop."
@@Choctopus Now its time for the Mario & Luigi comments
OK fine, we'll stop commenting about Metroid Prime and now we'll comment about Metroid Prime 2
"The music is actually really good in this game" is an understatment for the ages.
The amount of times I've heard someone casually remark stuff like "I guess the music isn't half-bad" or some shit and then the game is like Metroid Prime, Minecraft, DOOM 2016, Hollow Knight, Celeste, DKC2, Skyrim, Cult of Lamb, Axiom Verge, OOT, Halo, Nier: Automata, Crypt of the NecroDancer, Undertale, Cuphead, Blasphemous, Super Metroid or motherfucking Risk of Rain and I just sit there, seething and frothing with hatred and go like "Huh, I guess so"
@@sove3566this is the objectively correct opinion
I turned it off...found it totally annoying
@@m3ntal_c0re- Name one Metroid Prime area
@@jerryborjon just played the starting area... like the first few areas on the planet up to the fight with the plant monster. Maybe music will get better afterwards. It sounds pretty retro and somewhat interesting... but im in in general not a big fan that kind of music which pushes it self into the front. Its just my opnion.
1:01:40 “Please hold me, I’m an orphan” followed by Samus being gently yeeted from the Chozo’s hands made me laugh harder than it should have. Thank you Choc for always brightening up my day!
I mean, not incorrect.
Yeet the child!😂
Techno moment.
It’s lore accurate
my favorite part of this is him reading a scan telling him the best way to beat something and then not doing it.
My favorite part was getting to the holographic orrery and NOT SCANNING ANY OF THE PLANETS!
In Choc's defense they really dont hammer into your brain how important scanning actually is and its mostly for those trying to "100%" @NyscanRohid
@@zom8680i disagree the fact scanning activates mechanisms really hammers in how important it is
It's a shame choctopus never scanned the chozo (chorizo) ruins lore.
you gotta love how every single time choc asks "what's going on here" whether if its with enemies or the story, literally all of it cna be answered via the scan visor he refuses to use (and the acompanying logs he can read) c:
The best part about the camera spinning around a lot at the beginning is they really wanted to show off the model, the game was originally gonna be a third-person shooter.
To be fair you still see samus a lot more than the average FPS in general throughout the prime games. Makes her feel like she's actually there at least and not just a pair of floating hands
1:04:58 OMG YOU DIDN'T FALL FOR THE BEGINNER'S TRAP OF GOING HALFWAY THROUGH THE WRECKED SHIP BEFORE GETTING THE HINT ABOUT THE GRAVITY SUIT!
LEGENDARY!
Beginner?? I still make this mistake and I've been playing this game since 2008!
@cooltimetravel4959 I'm guessing you don't play the game often enough?
I fell for it my first few playthroughs but now it is muscle memory to ignore the wrecked ship and just go straight back to Phandara via Magmoor's elevator in Talon Overwold near the gunship
imo thats the one area of the game that just pure evil design. it seemingly naturally leads you in that direction only to laugh in your face its the wrong way and then getting back out is a pain trying to scale the platforms back up with water physics, meanwhile the true location is the ice area which is the farthest one away as well as having underwater segments making you think your still going the wrong direction
@@brandonwithnell612 I think the added murkiness of the water in the Remastered version is to address this- like a "You ca't possibly tolerate it this much just to make this mistake" type of thing
I almost fell for it on my first playthrough. I saw all that water before jumping in and thought it would be a headache without the Gravity Suit.
What I do love about the Scanning is that it builds immersion and world lore, but if you just want to focus on gameplay, you just have to scan the Red Scans and can skip the Orange Scans.
*Sees Choc going in to fight Metroid Prime with only 75 missiles*
“It’s a bold strategy, Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for him”
great video but your absolute refusal to use the charge beam is going to give me an aneurism lol
Watching Flaahgra was painful lol.
Or the scan visor. Lordy mercy. But hey, takes all kinds.
@@ianjones7577that too. how many enemies gave him issues because he never scanned them!
I remember the first time playing I accidentally missed the charge beam entirely and didn’t notice for a bit
that reminds me of a video i saw, where someone fought RIdley using ONLY the Charge Beam, and NO missiles...
that made me wince.
Yes we've hooked him on Metroid. Now to get Choc to play the rest of the prime trilogy and all the old 2d games. One of us. One of us
Strong contender for my favorite game. Glad you got into it.
METROID PRIME IS OFF THE BACKLOG LETS GOOOO
6:57 Canon Samus, most definitely not. The Samus from those old 4koma mangas? Absolutely. That Samus was adorable.
I can imagine a tween Samus still being trained by Gray Voice or Old Bird doing that the first time she figures out how to morph ball.
As someone whos discord profile pic is that samus, can confirm
@@KingsBard that's actually a very cute idea, I love it
for future reference when a scan says something absorbs beam weapons that means stop shooting beams at it you're only powering them up
48:17 - It is exactly what we wanted. Every time you said "What's this?" and "Can I not hurt this?" like with the enemies that throw you in morph ball form I just wanted to scream for you to scan it because it'll tell you what things are and usually tells you how to beat them.
I'm so glad you came arround to finish this game. This is ledgit one of my favourite gaming experiences I've ever had despite my general dislike of FPS. But that's the great part this game isn't an FPS, it's and FPA (first player adventure) and that's what makes it peak Metroid.
My personal favourite is prime 2. Its definitely the hardest (in both combat and general world progression) and might feel a bit obnoxious with its dark world system but it has the best atmosphere and the story telling of aether is fantastic. Also has some of my favourite boss fights of the series and it also has one of the greatest locations in the GameCube era. I can respect that it doesn't click with everyone though.
Based Prime 2 enjoyer. It's the one I like replaying through the most in the trilogy. And I agree Sanctuary Fortress is one of the best levels from that time.
@@ExtremeAce I love how I dont even have to say the name but people know :D It's so iconic.
I actually love Prime 2 as well! I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a Gamecube copy a few years back. Let me tell you, the spider guardian.... lets just say there's a reason it was nerfed in the Wii Trilogy version! I still havent beaten MP2E, or the original MP (also on gamecube), or MP3C (the original wii version; I haven't eaten beaten half of it yet, since the wii is at my parents house) but just yesterday I got my hands on the new remastered MP for switch, and I intend to beat it!
Omg, I played Prime the first time remastered, and it just is as amazing as everyone says it is (minus the respawning enemies).
As someone who speedruns randomizers of this game weekly, its so unique and special to see someone's first experience with it. The only painful part is watching Choc go past save rooms when low on health, but thats all in the experience. Good video, will watch multiple times likely
It scares me when I see him past save points. I'm not done watching at this point but to get to go to the research lab with like 20 missiles and that many E tanks? Scary lol
1:38:07 “I don’t like this dropping with the spider ball” oh boy wait until he gets to prime 2
Out here doing a low% run, its legitamately impressive he isnt dying more imo. Im glad you liked the game! I would consider prime 2 on par with prime and worth playing even without a remaster, i legitimately dont think they'll remaster the other two.
I'm glad that you finally finished on of my favorite games of all time. Hopefully there will be an Echoes and Corruption remasters. I suspect they might be dropped on the 40th anniversary or released before Prime 4 drops.
Fun fact: Part of my personal philosophy is inspired by these games. mainly from the Chozo and Luminoth (similar to the Chozo in Echoes). It's is very Buddhist with it being all about balance, especially between nature and technology.
I absolutely hate the Space pirates because of the lore entries. Especially the entry about the ruins and how they want to destroy them because it does benefit them. The log that has and I quote "The dead should serve the living, not hinder them."
If you love the music, there are a few free remix albums. They are the Harmony of a Hunter series( Harmony of a Hunter, Harmony of a Hunter 101% Run, and Harmony of a Hunter: Returns). Free to download and has some of the best remixes of the series.
Im so so glad this got ya into the series and Dread as well. Metroid is so amazing
another Choc vid.... And still a GREAT vid. been here on the choc train for a while now. Love ya vids Choc!
I'm so glad you're getting into metroid! This is my favorite video game series, and you have one of the best and most entertaining commentary styles out of any content creator on this platform 💙
Citizen Kane is considered to be so significant because of how it employed cinematography to enhance its presentation and storytelling in a time when the camera didn't typically do a whole lot in film. It's important because of how it leveraged the defining element of its given medium to strengthen its overall impact and expressiveness, and now such practice is standard in film.
Metroid Prime is one of only a small handful of video games that could be considered to be gaming's Citizen Kane. Other games have done more on the gameplay side of things (even other Metroid games), but there is one area where Metroid Prime is _definitively_ the peak level of achievement in video games, and that's in its narrative presentation and modality. While other games don't understand what a video game is and constantly rip it away from you so you can be forced to watch people talk, there is no such line separating gameplay from narrative in Metroid Prime; the player experiences the narrative elements and world-building exactly the way that Samus does, creating a perfectly unified interactive experience.
Ahh at last choc is finally completing Metroid prime.
I love seeing the genuine enjoyment of the game so much. Hearing you discover the music was fun. Loving this playthrough!
Dunno why, but I love the name Alfred for a spider. Give him a little top hat, a monocle, and maybe a tiny walking cane.
I was thinking more “Gerald”, but “Alfred” is good, too! lol
Surely you mean four little waking canes? 🧐
13:19 He didn't have to say it like that😂
I've been eagerly waiting for this
1:05:20 just learned that you can freeze the fire traps. And I knew more about this game then when choc was at that point.
You’ve seen the light…
You should do Metroid Prime 2, it’s genuinely a lot better than the first.
SOPHIST
Very debatable. I have my fair share of problems with it.
The first Prime is honestly my favorite of the 3.
Prime 2 honestly has more evil/dickhead bosses than 1. Spider ball guardian and Boost Ball Guardian are prime examples of this.
Now that's a hot take.
Based Sophist acknowledging Metroid Prime 2's superiority.
Let’s go it’s been awhile now let’s wait for prime 2 *crosses fingers*
This is my favorite game of all time. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Definitely need to finish the trilogy.
For the Omega Pirate fight, the small enemies are entirely a red herring. But that takes quite a while to figure out.
Bro really called the Power Suit "sexier."
Clearly not a fan of AC pauldrons.
Played Prime 1 recently and yeah that game has aged so well even to this day. One of the best games I’ve ever played. Currently playing Prime 2 rn and I hope to see a video on that game too eventually
5:00 I love how he asked if he's getting an upgrade, and I immediately got an ad for the Busch Survival Guide. Felt like an approved edit
YES YES YES MORE CONTENT FROM THE KING!!!!!
Every Metroid game, you feel completely naked until you recover Morph Ball, Charge Beam, Bombs, and Missiles, then you feel good again.
The Metroid is real!!
Gotta say, awesome game however I didnt finished it because I got so frustrated at a part were you have to fight against like 20 space pirates in a row, no checkpoints, no healing.
I feel you there I just got to the finally boss and I gotta say that phazon ruin section is waaaaaay too hard on hard more 😂😢

I'm glad you finally played this game, it's so good, now we have to hope for Metroid Prime 2 and 3... maybe sometime
I am a simple Metroid. He played Metroid Prime. I subscribed (and drained him of his life energy)
Edit 1: Slowly watching the video over time, 1:05:45 The best Metroid Prime game depends on what you want to rate the highest. The "general" consensus is: Metroid Prime is the best (for it's time) and Metroid Prime 3 is the actual best, because we got the Wii motion controls and budget, but from a game design and critic standpoint, Metroid Prime is the best, and people tend to hate on Metroid Prime 2 for trying to do the whole Light VS Dark thing that was popular at the time (Zelda Twilight Princess, Kingdom Hearts entire motif honestly, etc.)
However, funnily enough, in my experience, most of the true, die-hard and still love the series community of Metroid, tend to have a majority of the community loving MP2. It honestly did a lot of things right, without spoiling too much
Metroid Prime itself (for it's time) was mind bogglingly innovative, fantastic, captured the essence of a 2D Metroid and seamlessly transitioned it into a 3D game in an era where 3D hadn't yet even been fully explored yet (besides games like Ocarina of Time and the very recently released Halo 1, which is too recent to really pull inspiration from), we got Ball exploration, puzzle solving, world building, exploration at your own pace, 100 hidden fun things that are optional, multiple beams with beam combos, more stuff to scan and lore than most games at this time even wanted to do, 3D Map viewers, actual rain effects, and a thousand small beautiful details.
When you compare that to Halo which is, don't get me wrong a GREAT shooter, and great environments, but also: In Halo you at most fight what, 9 different enemy types? Let me see here, Grunt, Grunt charge with 2 Plasma Nades, 3 Types of Elites (so basically the same guy, but again with different weapons and stats), Jackal, Hunters, Flood tiny things, and 3 Flood Variants, = 14 enemy types, we have more on Tallon Overworld alone... Metroid Prime in many ways busted down the 3D world and said "THIS is what a real game is like", because it had to! The games it was competing against were THE Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, THE Super Mario Sunshine, if you weren't a near perfect game for the time, you'd be overshadowed in a heart beat.
I always like to tell people that my favorite moment in Metroid Prime was landing on Tallon Overworld, stepping off the ship, and not just hearing rain, but SEEING rain. Being able to look at plants that moved, swayed, but actually looked "realistic" (for the time), they breathed and it FELT like a planet, not a video game... A feat not achieved by Halo until Halo 3, in 2007, and by most other game studios until 2006-2012 (in a 3D Space). Most first ventures into the 3D world were failures, just like 2D worlds, as people tried to figure out what could be made in a X-Dimensional space and how to make it fun.
Edit 2: 1:27:01 It is absolutely on you, and a you problem, but don't worry about it ;)
1:27:05 The best weapon in that situation is the scan tool, because if you scan the sign in your face, it deactivates the turrets. :) The 2nd best weapon is morph ball because you can go underneath protected, and cross the room without fighting the turrets.
Edit 3: 1:28:45 ROFL xD You died next to the save station iirc! xD (see's the next scene) You even realized it later! xD
Final Edit: That was quite enjoyable to watch. May go re-play Metroid Prime again... for the now 21st time I think... Thanks man. I watched the whole vid, worth it. Can't wait for MP2/3/4 :) Also large video format is awesome! I just come back and watch bits at a time, with only 1 reference video to go to, without memorizing Part 1-50.
So glad you're playing this. Metroid is my all time favorite, and I'm so glad you loved Dread. Would love to see you go and play the other 2D Metroids after this. Metroid/Zero Mission, Samus Returns/Return of Samus, Super Metroid, and then Fusion is the order, I think you'll love them.
I LITERALLY just watched your first two vids from a year ago and started stressing abt you dropping the series. God bless the timing 🙏🏼
10/10 video. I love seeing new Metroid fans being born. Welcome to the fam we need way more of you. Going from 2D Metroid to Prime I was a huge skeptic but Retro Studios absolutely nailed the transition and blew me away. The music, the atmosphere, the lore, the gameplay... just perfection. They GOT IT. Dread was... alright. Not bad, but nothing compared to Fusion or Super or Zero Mission. Kinda felt like, after 19 years, I'll take what I can get. And I'll always be a 2D Metroid fan first and foremost but Prime and Prime 2 are simply *chef kiss*.
Prime 1 as the 1st game in the series i ever played and what turned me into the Metroid fan i am today holds a special place in my heart. As an entry point for 1st time players into 3D Metroid, it is perfect, not too hard, but not so easy you glide thru it. However, Prime 2 is definitely by a huge marging my favorite in the trilogy just bc it pushed me to my limits of understanding of the gameplay.
Fighting Meta Ridley for the first time when this game was new was amazing. But fighting Metroid Prime is still one of my favorite boss fights of all time today
1:32:44 Love the SpongeBob jellyfish buzzing sound
Bro you’re too funny 😂
1:58:00 You better believe that as a Metroid fan, the Ridley fight was crazy. You have to remember that the previous game was Super and came out in 1994. And then there was nothing for 8 years until suddenly we got TWO new games on the same day. It was glorious. (Ha, I remember when a mere 8 years seemed like a long time. Then came the post Corruption drought. 3 years, then the mess of Other M, then 6 years for the non-entity of Federation Force, then 1 year until Samus Returns, which is great, but is still a remake, then 4 years until Dread. 14 years.)
“The thing is the map is so expansive I keep wondering if I’m even going the right way, because I don’t think I explored everything in those other areas” by George he’s got it. That IS Metroid
It is me, the #1 Metroid Fan. I have played a total of one Metroid games.
This channel is Comedy Gold.
1:57:30 This is actually Ridley's Ridley's 3rd time being brought back to life in the timeline, (unless Mecha Ridley is just a robot, then it would be the 2nd). Also, if you Play Metroid Prime 3 I found that there was one Missile Expansion that if you don't get the first time you see it, the room will become altered making it impossible to reach (as far as I know).
I remember back then being so use to 2D Metroid games and then getting to play this one ^^
Super Metroid has an iconic final boss, but Raven Beak is by far the best Metroid final boss, and one of the best final boss fights in any game I’ve ever played. It’s so damn good. Tough as nails, but learnable, and satisfying once you have his patterns down, and he can’t touch you.
I was 25 when MP released and remember it very well. Having been a fan of metroid since Super, I didn't have high hopes for, but I'm happy to say that it quickly became one of my favourite games of all time.
I loved watching you. Your gameplay and commentary was hilarious. Thank you for enjoying one of my favorite games ever.
Love seeing people getting into the first fps game that I played as a kid. Metroid always has a place in my heart, but Prime and the Prime series remains at the top of that list (though Dread is head-to-head with it currently).
Im watching this vid rn for movie night. Thx choc
I love your commentary here, and your editing is beautiful. XD
I haven’t laughed so hard in a while dude. Awesome video man love the commentary and your play style. And to answer your question this is the best one out of the three that are available right now. Prime 4 might be the best but it’s never coming out so who knows. I did like Corruption too it wasn’t as good but pretty damn good. I think maybe I’m biased to this because of it being an amazing game from my childhood and one of the hardest games I finished at that time. I remember when I got this and I think it was Smash Brothers the same Christmas and I was stuck on my GameCube for months afterwards. Anyway keep bringing the content dude and I’ll keep enjoying!

So fun, really brought me back to my first time playing back in 2012. Also I love all the prime games, 2 is the hardest and moodiest, 3 is the least well liked but I still love it because it has all these different worlds to explore. I think 2 might be the best for veterans but for casual players I think you’ll really like 3.

Talking about Bluey while playing a Metroid game is one heck of a contrast
To answer your question at 1:05:45 ish, the best is usually considered Prime 2, but that can be argued as some people say Prime 1 is superior, so it's between those two. Prime 3, while fun, just doesn't hit as well.
I personally like 2 the best, aside from requiring ammo for the other weapon types... I REALLY hated that lol
Overall, though, still the better entry imo
I love how he learned that you need to change visors when Prime disappears in the final fight, does it once and then refuses to do it again and just blind fires in random directions lmao
It’s funny how much stuff you completely accurately predicted throughout the game
Was not expecting Banzai references... deep cut UK Channel 4 lore right there... 😂
