The bit of Savathun calling both Oryx & Xivu hypocrites for preaching the sword logic then seeking revenge for deaths of their loved ones made me even more fond of Savathun as a character. Super excited to see more of what the season has to offer, another great video
Savathun is always such a great presence in general tbh. My favorite line from that interaction was her calling Xivu a "spoiled child". Perfectly delivered.
I'd half call her a hypocrite on her own with it too, but I doubt she ever really believed in the Sword-Logic as anything more than a means to an end that she has long sought to subvert and escape.

That conversation between Savathun and Xivu Arath is pretty awesome to hear, as far as I know this is the first time in 9 years that we've heard any of the three Hive siblings have a direct conversation with each other in game and not in the lore
considering how supportive Eris has been towards nearly every charcter that she's come across, i think its good we have a Narrative focused on Eris herself, which was one of the good things in Shadowkeep.
The whole reason I still love Shadowkeep with all it’s flaws is the post campaign quest about finding the remnants of The First Crota Fireteam and Eris processing their deaths.

Everything between Eris and Drifter has been great and wholesome. Also I really want to hear a conversation between the three original Hive siblings. Maybe Oryx telling his sisters he is off to avenge his son or something.

I think Drifter is going to be a major part of Eris's ascension. He has a literal pocket dimension of Taken.
He's got a pipeline from the Nine, where they can provide counterfeit Taken.
I love that the game is treating Eris as the true killer of Crota and Oryx. I know the player always has to do everything because its a video game, but I know that if Destiny wasn't an MMO, Eris would have likely been the one to land the killing blow, and I love that they've found a way to make an NPC feel as awesome as they should while still having the player be the one to shoot the mans.
The VC for Eris never misses. She is amazing and I don’t think has ever had a bad line.

Yeah, perhaps more than any other character in Destiny's entire lore Eris has turned staring into the Abyss into her brand, and every time before now that she's done it, the Abyss has blinked first.
The question of whether or not she's incorruptable is - when you really think about it - beside the point. The fact is, if she can't do it, then I'm damn sure no one else can.

Maybe. One thing to keep in mind is we don't exactly know what Savathun's plan is beyond her resurrection and dealing with Xivu. Course, Immaru can still be proven wrong no matter what as I doubt he has much more of an idea what the plan is than we do.
@@Slayen I think the whole plan from the Savathussy is to become the last remaining god, meaning that her schemes will be the only truth for the hive. She would forcefully unionize all remaining hive under her covenant.
The reason why Eris will be so effective against Xivu is due to how broken her power is, giving the fact that Xivu is the most sentimental of the siblings. Eris feeds on vengeance, therefore any act of vengeance feeds into her power. Which brings to the fact that Xivu is waging a war against us mostly because we killed her brother and she wants vengeance.
Xivu will inebitably lose against Eris, either with death or being striken down so hard she wont be able to wage war anymore without feeding Eris. Which leads to a direct counter to her attrition tactics, a taste of her own medicine.
@@kaiser1719 Excellent point - the only other person I could think of that could beat Xivu Arath by becoming a Hive God through the Sword Logic would be The Guardian...and even then, it'd make more sense to be the New Hive God of War (Destiny Tracker shows six Guardians each with over 50 million kills), and I don't know how trying to steal another Hive God's shtick would work. (Game mechanics of turning the player into a Hive God would also be a non-starter.)
Because of the Drifter Ive been saying “trust” in the same tone he does at the end of a sentence.
Hearing Eris say it was heartwarming. I love the dynamic and I actually prefer it to be a relationship based on trust rather than making them an actual couple.
Just two people who’ve been through hell and back, slowly but surely rebuilding pieces of humanity in one another.
I saw another comment about their stark differences in language and it’s just pleasant to hear slang collide with almost Shakespearean like tone.
Man this season lore wise has been a real treat and although I don’t play anymore, I’m eagerly waiting for the next reset to see where we progress from here.
Loved this week's addition to the story. The interaction between Eris and The Drifter sums their relationship up perfectly, the explanation animation of sword logic was great, and I like how we are torn between who to trust during this process, very Savathun-esque trickery.
This season already feels so much better than last season. Narrative, gameplay, and where it’s heading.

This season feels very intentional. Season of the deep felt like filler, and this is the actual episode 🤣
And honestly, I'm okay with that. Just like not every season of a TV show can't be an absolute banger, the same goes for D2. There's never been another non-RPG of this scope that has tried to tell this kind of deeply involved story year after year, so I expect some filler from time to time. D2 is like the FPS equivalent to a shonen anime like Naruto or One Piece. @@jasontaylor4802
Vengance is the last thing that connects the 3 siblings. All of them vowed vengance upon the mast of their ship and their eyes, vengnce against the Helium Drinkers and the traitor, Taox.
All 3 of them were brought to our system by vengance. Oryx with vengance for Crota, Savathún with vengance against the worm gods for enslaving her to The Logic, and Xivu Arath as vengance for her lost siblings.
Every act of war strengthens Xivu Arath, but Xivu’s every action strengthens Eris Morn, Hive God of Vengance.
And doesn't every one of our actions strengthen Eris aswell?
I'm glad chosen got mentioned. Gotta be 1 of my top seasons. Cut scenes for Saladin were great too.
I like how supportive Drifter has been. Reminds me of how at the end of the prison of elders strike one of the dialogues is ghost doubting Drifter's motives and Drifter talks about how he thought it was supposed to be a new golden age where people help each other and he was just wanting to help the guardian, and when ghost says they are sorry he says something like you bet you are.
I really want to see Toland involved more, I feel like he would have a lot to say about what has been going on with The Hive recently

I never noticed the three glowing Hive eyes in the skybox, dunno if that’s for specifically this season or if it’s always been in the Throne World skybox, neat way of extending Savathûn’s presence beyond death.
First time I recalled seeing it.

@@thrilla72A true friend will be honest with you if they think you're heading into dangerous territory, but trying to prevent a friend from doing something they believe they need to because YOU think it's the wrong choice isn't healthy. If the choice is so wrong that it's damaging to you to be there for them, sometimes the right thing is to walk away from the relationship. But I have to respect that my friend is their own person with the right and the need to make their own decisions. Which, really, Ikora does. The main difference between Ikora and Drifter with regards to Eris is that Ikora feels more responsibility towards her that Drifter does. But really no one is responsible for Eris but Eris.
@@thrilla72Nahh, the Drifter is one of the only people that was experimenting with forces outside of the light well before we were. He also gets Eris in a way not many do. He understands and trusts Eris to do what's needed and come out the other side. I doubt he would even be as confident if it were our Guardian that somehow had to do it. Lastly, after everything Eris has been through, this is light work to her. A friend that's that confident in you when others aren't is absolutely a great friend. I also like the 2 as a couple so I think there may be something there too. He is the only one that calls her "Moonbeam" after all.
Im definitely enjoying this season far more than i have the past few. The activities are challenging. The dialogue is is engaging. Im invested in the story.
Really hoping they keep this up over the next few weeks.
The story's definitely been more interesting. I'm going to save my hope of them understanding what we want from the narrative for now, though. We said the same thing during Witch Queen and then we got Lightfall, which made that disappointment so much worse. Don't really wanna go down that path again.
THe reason the hive themed seasons and expansions are so good is that it is cohesive. The dark browns and greens, the adult and moral/ethical questions, behaviours and actions of the characters that are involved, on top of steller voice actors. Even the drifter with this light hearted tone is seeping with insinuations between his lines of humor and quips. The lore and presentation fit together.
Contrast that with Nezerec, which I agree had great lore tied to him as a character. His lore, writing and character is dark horror with clear cthulhu mythos vibes, yet he is put in game in a brightly lit area dampening his entire character as it is written. Although the reason for -why- he is in a light room is well thought out and perfectly described it still falls flat.
A scary clown is way scarier in a dark room with flickering light than it is in room of floodlights. It will still hunt and kill you, sure, but it will not reflect the stories surrounding it very much.
I think this is the analogy for Lightfall in general. There are a lot of good lore in there, the presentation just does not fit imo and creates a divide.
Eris Morn, Hive god of vengeance... I'm really liking how that sounds
So my random thought, maybe erise or someone taking the mantle of taken king could be related to the 2 truths 2 lies thing.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Savy's whole plan is going to be revealed to be that she wants Eris to ursurp Oryx's throne and then by way of deception take over Eris's body and become a massive power conglomerate of Oryx, Eris/the Vanguard tithed power, and her own Traveler given Light powers.
I’m really liking the tone of this season so far. Feels cohesive and you can see the validity towards the end story. Some of the lines from Eris are a bit cryptic but I like the narrative. season of the Seraph is one of the better seasonal stories I feel they need to live up to.

Well that's just Eris, she's been like that for as long as I can remember.
Would love a week by week “state of the lore” so to speak lol. I think this season continues to surprise me everywhere I go. It really feels like Witch Queen again where I am a detective navigating g through the Spire and Altar each week. I continue finding new discoveries and things that I want to check back on the following week as they haven’t done anything yet but have to mean something later. It is great, really looking forward to a secret exotic quest for this season because if it is anything like last season, it will likely be incredible
What I loved about Chosen was that every week felt like the leaders had to come together, discuss what to do and then act accordingly. It made you feel as a complete part of the story, not just the guy that does the job they know nothing about. If Witch goes for that aswell I will love that season
I think part of the reason why Eris says she feels more like her true self after transforming is partially due to the nature of the sword logic. It cuts away the access leaving the most true parts.
I am digging the season thus far, hoping it keeps up as you said. Lots more going on in just two weeks, and the two activities are actually fun with their more roguelite nature.

Season of the haunted was one of my favorite seasons it added a new location and the story interweaved through three different characters and made it important to play through the dungeon that came with the season
One of my fist comments on the seasonal quest this week was how it wasn’t do the same two thing then do the mission the drop off whatever we grabbed and it was actually different than last week
Love the way Drifter takes what seem like negatives with a vein of intrigue and a supportive attitude
Love that we are hearing more voice lines from Ian Corlett (Fynch). Felt he got almost next to nothing in witch queen. Love to hear his like Chicago-Boston accent. Brings some vibrancy to fynch, almost fitting his character. The slight disses and headstrong Demeanor
I feel this cutscene would be great as something that should stay around as a character intro of some sort. It does give an idea of who Eris is as a character, some shadows of her backstory, and explains what she knows of the Hive's Sword Logic.
I’m still worried over how if the more power we give to Eris, the more hunger for tithes she will have. For now she seems in control of both the power and the drawback, I just hope elsie isn’t going to be right at the end of this season.
her quest for Vengeance is and may always be her main focus
i think we will get the drama of almost losing her but i think our guardian and Drifter will be able to pull her back. or we will have a new hive god bff.
I think she intends to harness all this power permanently specifically because of what she told ikora at the start. "I'm worried you won't come back from this" "Does it matter if I don't?" I think she's going to take the stage as a hive God. Whether she's our friend later or our enemy now, the devs did say there aren't any storylines soon where we get friendly with the hive
I think the big difference is that the "hunger" for power that the Hive Gods had was mainly due to their worm, almost to the point that their lives depend on keeping their worm "happy" in a manner of speaking. As far as I know and as I seen so far, Eris' power and transformation is not being "powered" by a Hive worm, so there is no external third-party influencing Eris into gaining power. Though Bungie hasn't shown a worm especifically fuelling Eris' power, according to lore, all Hive have a worm and since now Eris is a hive, there should be a Hive worm inside of her but as far as I know and remember, there is no worm inside her that could feed her hunger for power.
@ryanosborne7534 I really wish we would have the Lucent Hive as allies. We have the same goal, just different methods. And it would be nice to fight alongside most of the other species as allies against the Witness.
I think the Hive and other Factions like the Fallen and Cabal could be completely phases out as enemies and Destiny wouldn't suffer for it. Hell, replace the Hive with Clovis Bray and his army of frames, machines, and possibly even his attempts to create artificial guardians.f
Its nice that the Drifter is aware that telling Eris to advise caution wouldn't work so he just supports her in what she is planning to do

2 weeks in and im enjoying this especially altars of summoning its not too yawn but not too hard its fun with friends to just play kinda like blind well
this season has been amazing so far in both story narrative and in gameplay, it’s cool we get new stuff like the cards! also what is that prometheus lens build that had you exploding redbars instantly
You know, I've been wondering for a while now, do we even know what Eris's rock is?
That aside, I had a slightly different interpretation of Eris saying she's more like herself while transfigured: The 'excess' aspects and baggage fall away, and all that is not truely Eris Morn is shorn away by the sword, or perhaps knife in her case. A purity of spirit and the clarity and focus that comes with it.
Eris’s “rock” is an Ahamkara bone. She participated in the Great Hunt, and she kept the bone with her as a trinket. When her and her fireteam went into the Hellmouth, and she lost her Light, as well as her eyes, the bone sensed that she desired to have her sight back. It granted her wish, but since all Ahamkara wishes have some sort of sick twist, she ended up taking the eyes of a Hive acolyte.

Definitely think that this season should end with the guardian becoming the new Taken King. Either with Eris failing or succeeding, id rather finish that massive elephant in the room of our guardian being the rightful succesor.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure if Bungie will ever let us do something like that upfront. Because of the “evolving world” aspect of the game, as well the legacy stuff, where not every player is going to experience all of the same content, the stuff that the player does themselves will always be downplayed to, “the Guardians (almost always plural) did this thing/killed this guy.”
One of the more unfortunate parts of Destiny being a multiplayer live-service game.
I like that the cutscene showed us that Xivu isn't the sort of morph we expected. At least, for me anyway. The fact she's not a big, beefy Knight Morph like we all pictured is really fun. Though I'm not sold on the giant hat.
Eris adopting some of Drifters phrases when they talk with each other is kinda cute

As an extra note, starting on reset one of the ritual encounters that was added is feeding eris taken energy
I'm with you Byf. As of right now, narratively speaking, this is one of the BEST seasons we've ever had. If it continues this way, then this has the potential to be up there as one of the actual best.
This season so far is really good. The content is difficult but fun. A lot of secrets and an enjoyable story. Let’s hope it stays on this pace.

I like that drifter is getting more and more close to people. When we met him back in forsaken didn't care about anything and was always distant bc that's what he learned all this years of surviving and losing friends. But he is starting to view us as something worth investing emotionally and you can see that when he talked to Sloane and specially Eido and Eris
Drifter is growing his character development is good we have watched him grown since that season
One thing bothers me and its Oryx's remains still within Titan and now within the Hidden's watchful eyes, while his body remains motionless after being killed those many years ago, his body still radiates Taken Energy (as pointed out within the lore from Ghost of the Deep), and I don't know if Savathun planned for us to find his body or not, but if what Xivu Arath said is true, then Eris will most likely need the Taken Energy within Oryx in order to assume the mantle of the Taken King, or Taken Queen I should say. Rather this will happen or not, we'll have to wait and see, for now, I kind of have to side with Immaru on the whole "What the hell is Eris doing" issue. I'm not against Eris' plan to fight against Xivu Arath, but... I don't know, I feel a little uneasy with this plan, JUST to get the information we need to go through the portal.

Ik a lot of people don’t want this but I think it would be a really amazing story point to see Oryx get resurrected somehow, whether by light or sword logic. I wanna see how his sisters would react and the fundamental (pun unintended but I am not complaining😅) change it would cause in the destiny universe.
Edit: especially if they somehow integrate it with how he’s alive when the Touch of Malice exists. Maybe he’s bound to us somehow kind of like how we’re bound to Riven by killing her? Just a thought
I played a round of Alters today and from what I've seen, there's one new boss and one new lighting round type thing, but I'm sure there's more.

this would be pretty interesting to see the hive get used like this - but also worrying for what the stranger has said
I imagine we might find something in the course of the season that shatters Xivu's conviction so heavily that she pulls out to recuperate for a year before returning in the "Heresy" Episode for a final showdown.
I feel like something that could get some good mileage somewhere down the line this season is another "event", like fractaline donation or that one sorta micro-event from pre-shadowkeep; a community fed gauge that needs to be filled before the next story beat can begin (with the filler obviously being "things that tithe to Eris")
I haven't played Destiny in years, but always love hearing the lore from you. Nice job. :)
I'm willing to bet that the drifter's trying to keep his lil transmat from firing off when talking to Eris about how it feels to be a Hive god.
My takeaway of this weeks story is that we will, this season, confront Xivu and probably loose Eris in the process, either dies or (more speculative) is possessed by SavaThicc after the defeat of Xivu. Leading to next season were we would be gathering macguffins for SavaThicc for us to open the portal to the Pale Heart.

I loved seeing the deviation. I was honestly expecting another week of build-a-god and then do mission to get tithes, so I was pleasantly surprised when we got "Pick an attunement and then go wild." Sure we had to do a thing in a certain lost sector at the end of it, but it felt like it was worth it cuz those attunements allowed us to pick up additional cards in the Spire. So far, I think the season is doing well. I just hope we continue this trajectory and have a less-predictable story that isn't just "go here and do the thing"

Love the story, have you explored the idea that we are "exploring" sword logic, "navigating" the bladed path. I keep seeing hints at the I am war and you've summoned me with war. Could we have Oryx called back with this "exploration" of Sword Logic?
I like that whilst yea the Drifter is supportive and knows she knows what she's doing, his body language when she turns away and can't see him is very telling that despite his jokey and laid back reaction he's also just as nervous as Ikora and the others for her. He trusts Eris, probably more than any of us but knows that anyone can get in over their head and he worries for her but keeps it to himself, letting her only see what she needs to see in those moments: trust that she's got this but he still lets her know with that last touch that he'll be there for her no matter what. Just letting her know without saying it, that if she does lose herself he'll be there to help pull her back and she understands his underlying worry by reaffirming she knows the danger but to "trust." Its a beautiful relationship, probably the best in the game.
Eris seasons are always the best for me so I'm excited for this one
In the very first cut scene of the new season, the one where she transforms, Eris said that she would appear as a Hive god while she's in the ritual circle.
Of course, she also appears that way when she's receiving tithes in the summoning activity, but I haven't seen any explanation for that. I would assume that she has to take on that form to receive tithes from us, and the activity itself is a ritual.

we do see eris claim something from oryx's blade in the post credit scene to the taken king campaign, this is probably what she was referring to when xivu calls eris the heir
Very good video as per usual. Id cool the expectations for the next two weeks activitiy-wise as we will probably be un-locking the other two elemental shards that we didnt choose this week. The lore this season has been fantastic and i hope the season ends with a fable 2 Theresa-type moment where she gets the tithes, forces xivu to submit/be destroyed, and leaves with her new powers
The seasonal strike thing sorta confirms a good story for me, I would love a new throne world strike. But very early
I haven't played week two yet and you hyped up the story so much that I got to close the video and go play it. Not saying you overhyped it I'm just saying you got me hyped bro.
Just a stray thought on Book(s) of Sorrow… based on how the lore categorizes entries, it seems to me that it’s not multiple books, but one book and we are experiencing chapters and verses within the book - this season being chapter 8 of said book and the cards are verses within that chapter.
Drifter's little touch on Eris' elbow...he really does care for her. Totally didn't tear up a little at that gesture. Nope.
I'm loving this season. ERIS delivers even more than usual. As for the "Lightfall" story, I liked it. I'm good with not understanding everything and what the veil is. This keeps me going to see what happens will I ever know. I mean the Bible vague, and people think that as law and history. Sometimes, a good story doesn't give you all the answers. Plus that why we have you Byf. I love your logical theory and speculation. Great video!
The part of the curscene where i think its xivu stares down the camera whilst gripping tbe storm genuinlly freaked me out a bit

It’s coincidental, but I ran King’s Fall the night before reset, so the dialogue with Savathun and Xivu gave me chills. I also love the complexity of Xivu’s beliefs and how she’s teetering between heresy and staunch belief. She’s like a religious person who digs their heels in because they have so much doubt.
I can’t wait for Byfs video on Elsies reaction in the second book of the new dusk n dawn lord book (I forget the name) but it really does make you question everything that’s going on along with the “info” from immaru this week

Honestly? I loved the fact that this week was relatively short on gameplay and extremely heavy in story. This season honestly feels like it could be DLC worthy so far.
I came back for lightfall after leaving with forsaken and this season has had the best story so far

one thing I haven't seen anyone point out just yet is how Savathun and Xivu both believe they know exactly how Eris thinks but fails to see that Etis knows exactly how they think.
It became extremely apparent when Savathun called Xivu a child by l because that's how she sees her. As a sister, that's something only a sibling would think to compare her to.
Eris, in the cut scene, calls Xivu childish as well. To me, this shows that not only can Eris see Xivu's true nature, but she also thinks the same way as Savathun.
To know one enemy is to defeat them before the battle even begins. Imaru is so sure that Savathun has a better scheme. So beholden to the belief that no one thinks the way Savathun thinks. It's like when I child tries to convince you that their idol is the strongest comic book character. Or like a child saying my mommy can beat up your mommy. But the facts that he's sharing all these, "secrets" to us while saying, "what the hell does Eris think she's doing?" goes to show he's afraid. Afraid that maybe his idol isn't the most cunning. After all, Eris has proven she is right to be feared. No one as cunning as her should walk right into another's plans this easily. Even if those plans were laid by Savathun herself.
In the end, one thing is very clear. Strength can at times be enough to seek execute one's vengeance. But strength and cunning combined all but guarantee is completion. I trust Eris. I trust in her ability to not walk with an overly inflated ego. I trust our new hive goddess. Aiat.
