  • Bill Bielmyer was diagnosed with osteoarthritis which had really started to affect his daily routine and hobbies such as golfing and jogging.
In this video, Bill explains how he opted for the non-invasive Unloader One brace to treat his osteoarthritis, instead of undergoing total knee replacement surgery which might have jeopardized his active lifestyle. In just three days he felt a noticeable difference on a walk with his wife, and soon improved his game of golf dramatically.

I've been using this brace for about a week and I saw the difference immediately. My doctor recommended TKR after I had problems from surgery from a torn meniscus, swelling, stiffness, pain, etc. but he also prescribed this brace. I didn't even bother seeing the physician for the TKR, instead I'm looking into stem cell and PRP along with supplements to support the joints and I'm beginning to feel better. Now I need to work on strengthening the thigh and calf muscles and I really believe over time I can achieve more mobility and less pain. It's worth the try...

in reply to Bonnie Egbert, everybody is different and what helps one is not necessarily the answer for another. My mother had TKR and it ruined her knee. So a TKR is not a guaranteed solution. In fact my mother was considering the Unloader one now several years post a failed TKR after learning it about it through my own usage of it. You may have a partial point here in that perhaps because he used the Unloader before he had no recourse, he was able to halt successfully deterioration. Perhaps in your case you began use of it past the point of receiving reversal type benefits. Or your situation had a different cause that could not be corrected as this man's.
Still, I caution against the belief that a total knee replacement will result in guaranteed positive results, when it could end up causing you even more grief than prior the surgery as happened to my mother. Due to this I feel he was rightly cautious against doing a TKR, because it might have backfired on him, and lessened his mobility as it seemed he was leary of.

Obviously your knee was not as bad as most who need a TKR, eventually you will have the surgery. I too wore the unloader brace for about 9 months...eventually it did not help any longer. When you are totally bone on bone you will be asking for the surgery!

Exactly. I used the other brace for a few years then this one for another few years but ended up in TKR surgery of both legs one after the other with 18 months gap. It sure is a good brave to buy some time before u can get the surgery done and that’s the only final solution.

Why was a prescription required for a knee brace?

Having Worn Issue brace for medial knee compartment issues, one aspect of this video doesn't concur with my experience, I was told and follow advice, that as cycling is non load bearing, brace is only effective for load bearing exercise, i.e walking, etc
