Fell in love with the Halal Guys back in the 2014. First time in NYC and while I was looking any of the popular hot dogs, found the Halal cart at the 54th and bum !! 😍😍
Have one here in Rockville Maryland. First time trying it I ordered the platter with white sauce and 2 lines of red sauce. The man pouring the sauce looked at me an said are you sure I said yes. First time I ate it I immediately started sweating and an was in so much pain. Later I was in even more pain when I had to go to the bathroom. I just stick to the white sauce now.
Hey here's a tip! Do the White sauce and just do tiny dots of the red sauce I just buy the packets. That way it's evenly distributed it's when it's a lot that it's impossible to eat because it's so hot. Got the red sauce makes it super delicious as long as it's just tiny bits of it. That's for me. But my husband loves spicy so he goes to town with it.
I literally just visited the one in Rockville off Rockville Pike! The one next to Food lion and Chipotle right?? What a small world hahahaha. Apparently, the Halal Guys in NYC is even better.
I've been visiting Halal Guys in NYC since 1996 or so, so I have a certain expectation when it comes to my Gyro and let me tell you .. the Rockville, MD location (closest to me currently) disappointed severely. The biggest let down was that they don't cut fresh from the spit like in NYC. It's precut and stored in bins where the flavor is lost forever. That and they refused to cook green peppers and onions with my meat. Also, the franchises serve the white sauce in packets. Not a compete loss there, but you do miss that feel from the bottle. I think the chain restaurants could do a little better in accommodating those who know exactly what an authentic 53rd & 6th gyro tastes like.
They do have BBQ sauce in their restaurant locations just not in their orginal street location. But people will still prefer the white and the hot sauce
I live in Toronto, and like 4 years ago we got our own Halal guys. I remember I went there on the 3rd day of opening. Honestly lots of people mainly students lined up for it. I was pretty disappointed because it was overpriced and the quality and quantity of the food didn’t represent America’s halal guys. Hopefully post covid, I will go to nyc and have halal guys.
Remember, when you’re running a cart you barely have any bills such as rent, electricity, and other bills that go with a brick and mortar store. So, in order to make up for the costs, prices have to be adjusted.
I remember when they were smaller, my dad and I would drive there and wait hours in the line in the cold harsh winter of New York City. I wish I could go back
Same, back when there weren't many halal food places around, my family would drive 40 mins from the suburbs just to go to Halal Bros location in downtown Chicago. Best quality, insanely flavoured gyro meat ever.
There’s two locations near me in SoCal. First time I tried it I fell in love!! It’s my go to when I want something delicious, bang for the buck, and enough to separate into two meals!!
My first time in nyc I stayed at the hotel across the street. One of my favorite food experiences of my life. Every time I visit nyc, I go back to the original even if I’m staying in Brooklyn or far away. Love it. One of the times, I saved a whole platter of chicken from falling off the grill and they gave me free food when I visited the next few times, for saving it, because they remembered me :)
That guy is nice and friendly, saying "it is just called white sauce" to a nice lady. I really love to see friendly people on earth. And the food looks so delicious. Wish one day I can visit NYC.
Being from Ottawa, I go to NYC a lot and every time I have this habit of going to Halal Guys. It’s just so good. To bad the U.S and Canada border is closed, when it opens, I’m definitely trotting down to New York City, it’s just a 7 hour drive, so nothing is better than a trip to the Big Apple.
@@mrfodee834 If you think walking over to get a chicken platter outside, in the fresh air, is going to kill you, then you should stay hiding under your bed for the rest of your life.

They used to be good when it was just a single cart. The brick and mortar expansion diluted the quality and brand. I go to the cart around the corner from them because there’s almost never a line and the quality is better for the same price.
So true. Not many sees that other cart. The one on the UWS, they serve you smaller portion. I also remember they used to have lamb 15 + years ago but maybe I’m confusing them with another cart.
xwarped83 the recipe isn’t the same anymore. They changed it quite a few years ago, probably during the expansion. Flavor dropped and there are better carts if you look hard enough. Their product is still strong but it’s not the golden standard it once was.
I miss this! They closed the branches here in the Philippines. I would definitely get a sampler platter again: yellow rice, beef gyro, lettuce, tomatoes, 2 pcs. soft pita bread, falafel, lots a white sauce & a bit of red spicy sauce. 😍🤩✨
Wasn't surprised, local franchise didn't listen to the valid complaints of their customers. They were charging NYC prices but serving less meat and the rice wasn't even basmati. I've tasted better food than the manila franchise
The first time I was recommended to try Halal Guys, I was skeptical. Growing up in a country with a lot of "better then thou" muslims, I wasn't too keen to visit another muslim joint now in the US. However when I walked in, the hospitality was what hit me first. Even though the store was busy, the store manager still took the time to chat with us. Finding out where we were from he greeted us in arabic and I could respond. This shocked me because it was a big no no in my country and was severely frowned on if you are not a muslim. Then it was time to eat. Since covid I had to leave the US and I can say one of the only foods I miss so badly is Halal Guys. So good

agreed, like adam ragusea video on how to pronounce food name. the meaning of a name should be as the same (or similar) as the intention of the one who created the name. unless it's totally came out from something really different that just spelled similar. such as french for bread is pain (idk any examples 😅)
Is it wrong to assume that its actually halal? I thought thats why the name of the company
Its very misleading !
Totally agree
@@goharmartirosyan15 it is halal that's why it's called halal guys duh
That's true as being a Muslim I understand that and what your talking about is right 🔥🔥

This brings a lot of memories of me going to the halal guys. The white sauce is- unexplainable. If I ever get a chance to visit the halal guys I'd buy 3 of the dish.
I saw an article that said the white sauce is watered down Mayo with fine ground black pepper.
@@sablonanime650 Cap middle easterners never use mayo it's most likely a yogurt based sauce
@@tahamohammad1741 have you been there before? Because it definitely tastes like Mayo. I’m not saying the article is right about the recipe but I’ve had both yogurt and Mayo based sauces before and I can say it tastes like Mayo.
@@sablonanime650 watering the sauce down would be haram i dont think they would do that
@@monsieurpatate1573 well it's too thin to just be mayo, maybe they added more oil or something. Idk if the article is true or not, but it's interesting to think something so simple could be such a hit.
I miss that Halal guys before covid. Before, you could just grab the sauce bottles from the mini fridge and pour as many as you like.
The Halal guys here in Maryland Fuckin SUCKS!!! Lol
"wait there's bbq?... Duddde" .. top class!
@Lawrence Weston yes there are
Theres so many Shawrma restaurants in Toronto.
@@doeeyes2 Yes I am aware there are but your point?
Yah I tried a halal guys in Toronto as well as the one in New York when I went with my family and the quality just wasn't the same
Remember, when you’re running a cart you barely have any bills such as rent, electricity, and other bills that go with a brick and mortar store. So, in order to make up for the costs, prices have to be adjusted.
THE WORD ' HALAL' DOESN'T MEAN BUTCHERING MEAT IN A SPECIFIC WAY. Halal mean everything that is permissible for muslims.
Calm down
Quran 9:29 is wajib
I remember when they were smaller, my dad and I would drive there and wait hours in the line in the cold harsh winter of New York City. I wish I could go back
Server: ''white sauce all over?''
Guy: ''Yeah, all over the chicken'' ::points to chicken only::
Server: ''okay'' ::pours it all over everything::"
I noticed that too 😂

Finally, something that I can finally eat!!! Thank you Food Insider on behalf of all Muslims!!!!!!!!
The tastiest food I ever had in NYC... Absolute bliss 😍
Fun fact: this is not the first time you’ve watched this if you love the platter and don’t live in New York.
As a Muslim. It will make us easier to get Halal food and i will go here
I was so happy to hear 1-2 years ago they opened a location in Toronto, Canada !! I go there as much as I can !! so addicting!
i remember ordering this so much during the first NYC lockdown, it was amazing !!
When i lived in Chicago, this is one of my staples. IT'S SO GOOD BELIEVE ME
Same, back when there weren't many halal food places around, my family would drive 40 mins from the suburbs just to go to Halal Bros location in downtown Chicago. Best quality, insanely flavoured gyro meat ever.
@@mariyam9861 Nick's Gyros!!!!

lol
Had it in Chicago, it’s really good and the white sauce is legit 👍
my local spot here in NYC i get the reg gyro with maybe the same "white sauce" or sum but god damn it good lmao
legit is delicious
they're opening a restaurant near me
Thankfully now we have this in Dearborn, Michigan. Only 30 mins from my home & yesterday I had it and it brought back those NY memories back 😘
My first time in nyc I stayed at the hotel across the street.

I could eat that every day for a year and never get tired of it deadass...looks so good 🤤
Plankton will soon find out the secret ingredient of this delicious food.
I'm not even sure he finally got the ingredients needed for the patty
Why would I try to steal the recipe when he already prepared it
Muslim Guys Are Too Friendly And Kind♥️
Being from Ottawa, I go to NYC a lot and every time I have this habit of going to Halal Guys. It’s just so good. To bad the U.S and Canada border is closed, when it opens, I’m definitely trotting down to New York City, it’s just a 7 hour drive, so nothing is better than a trip to the Big Apple.
its in toronto tho
Currently eating at their location in Arlington, Texas...
How is the taste ?

Hopefully when Covid is over will be getting and ordering a meal from them.

They opened one up in houston, which has a pretty heavy Mediterranean food market. I can say halal guys is the best
They used to be good when it was just a single cart. The brick and mortar expansion diluted the quality and brand. I go to the cart around the corner from them because there’s almost never a line and the quality is better for the same price.
I’ve been to the one in New Brunswick on route 18 to me at least taste the same
So true. Not many sees that other cart. The one on the UWS, they serve you smaller portion. I also remember they used to have lamb 15 + years ago but maybe I’m confusing them with another cart.
The cart is still good but the stores are definitely not the same. I’m in Dallas five minutes from one of the stores so it has to do.
xwarped83 the recipe isn’t the same anymore. They changed it quite a few years ago, probably during the expansion. Flavor dropped and there are better carts if you look hard enough. Their product is still strong but it’s not the golden standard it once was.
ive never tried the NY carts yet, but they have some stores here in california and they're delicious
“Wait, there’s barbecue? Oh dude!” 👍😂
I didn’t finish college, but Halal guys were there when you need food quickly and so good! So freaking good!
I’m literally eating this right now lol
I love a lot of the red/hot sauce on mine! I love really spicy foods 😋
wait, how did you manage to get this food ?? how can you eat the red sauce ?
i always come back to this when i eat... seeing how that chicken and beef cook is amazing i feel that its actually the food im eating lol
I just laugh when they tell me it's spicy and ask for extra red sauce. Love them!
So good
You will go there again and try soon
