  • This is the first of three videos where I go back to shooting film. First up is my beloved Holga camera. How can something so cheap, produce such evocative results?!

    with a low quality camera, one can see even more the quality of the photographer. amazing eye as usual, reading light and structure like a boss :)

    Beautiful pics. The Holga is showing me that good photography transcends sharpness.

    Very inspiring. I hate those videos with long intros, how great I am, drama music etc. This one got right to the meat and the photos were pretty good too!!!

    Really enjoyed this one Craig. The square format and 'simple' compositions work really well.

    Really nice feel and flow to this one Craig and glad to see you using 6x6 film cameras - I love mine.

    The Host photographer said that you never know what you will get, and since there is time until pictures are returned from processing, the is time to forget the subject matter too. So you are doubly surprised, and yet reminded, like seeing relatives at family gatherings.

    Brilliant!!! Why spend hours in Lightroom/Photoshop to get that effect when it can be done with a push of 1 button! Got me thinking now!! :o)

    That was such a relaxing video! You really play to the capabilities of the holga and show what its capable of. I love your style of simplicity and lines, pattern. Thanks for getting me interested in the Holga!! Subscribing for sure. 👍

    Craig, another excellent video as expected however by far the best line you said on your shoot was you try and get it right in camera. My sentiments exactly, far far too much emphasis on them dreaded words Post Production. A slight tweak here and there could be classed as acceptable but the majority of the they look so false...unbelievably so most of the time.
    Love your uploads pal....Take care

    Nice video, Craig, its good to see you are doing a few videos shooting with film cameras. I've dabbled with 35mm film cameras myself a little bit and enjoyed using them. The Corn exchange building is quite impressive looking and it reminds me of Wemyss bay train station in Scotland. Anyway great shots, Craig, look forward to your next one. :)

    I've just managed to grab one of these for about £11 off of ebay, as I wanted to try some 120 photography, and also picked up a couple of rolls of portra400 to run through it while I'm up in London in a few weeks. Hopefully get some interesting shots around the Excel/Canary wharf area. How does it handle putting 35mm through it using the adapters?

    Interesting that you used Kodal Porta 400 "Color" film with the Holga yet most of your images have been converted to B&W (or a slight color tint (greenish)). Would Kodak Tri-X 400 have been the better choice for the Holga?

    • @e6Vlogs
      @e6Vlogs  7 років тому +2

      Portra is a great film and gives me the option of colour without having to change films and vice versa.

      Great to know as I shoot Porta 400 with my Fuji GF670 and Shenhao 617. Never did B&W conversions in PS with Porta 400, but will give it a go now. Thx. PS Moving to Birmingham from India in Apr'17, maybe we'll meet up. PSS I do like the content and catching up watching all the videos.

  • @wanderpup

    Do you sharpen your pics with post processing? I'd love some tips for getting shots like yours out of this camera. Did you work out the focus lengths through burning rolls and rolls or maybe something a bit more methodical with meter sticks? Thanks

    • @scottplumer3668
      @scottplumer3668 Рік тому +1

      The aperture is small enough on a Holga where you have a pretty broad depth of field, so guessing the focal distance usually works.

    What do you do for processing? Do you get proofs made at the time? Scanning? Sorry for all the questions ☺️

    • @e6Vlogs
      @e6Vlogs  7 років тому +1

      I use a pro lab in Sheffield for processing and then scan the negs at home myself using an Epson V750 pro scanner.

    • @stephenarling1667
      @stephenarling1667 5 років тому

      Or you could buy one of the millions of 6x6 and 6x9 cameras of the past. A few are as bad as a Holga. Many are battle-scarred yet astonishingly fine, like the 1929 Icarette I was given by a friend decades ago.

    Hi Craig, I’m thinking about getting a Holga, I follow your channel and love your content, right enough creeping, the photo you took were both monochrome and colour but you only used one reel of film, how is that achieved, sorry I’m only a beginner

    • @e6Vlogs
      @e6Vlogs  4 роки тому

      Brian A Always shoot colour with my fav Portra film and then convert to B&W. My preferred way and gives me the best of both worlds. Portra is easier to scan too.

    Too much chance involved in a Holga with its cheap plastic lens. I'd rather have control over how my shot will turn out than depend on the unpredictable results of the cheap Holga.

    • @kiss4god
      @kiss4god 6 років тому +4

      Danvil the chance is what makes it fun. you can still control your shot! your eye just has to be good enough so that the image looks good regardless of light leaks and vignettes ;)
