I believe most cases with type-C ports (including that Corsair 4000D) are actually 3.1 Gen 2 at 10Gbps not Gen 1 at 5Gbps. Hi, thank you for posting this video! I built a new motherboard, namely the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, in a Cooler Master Master Case 5 Pro. The case's USB 3.0 connector did not fit the motherboard's USB 3.2 Gen 1 header, as it did with my previous ROG motherboard, and all of a sudden I was facing a problem using my front panel USB ports. I found a local online store selling the same PCIe adaptor. After the installation in a PCIe X1 slot, the front panel cable connected easily to the board's USB 3.0 header, and as a result the problem was solved. Before that, I ordered an adaptor cable USB-C to USB 3.0, which would fit in the motherboard's USB 3.2 Gen 2 header, but it will take a long time to arrive. That cable would be another workaround to the same issue, but gladly not necessary any more. When building, I did not want to push the front panel USB 3.0 female connector to the header, because normally it should fit the header without effort. I am not sure exactly what happened, but at that moment it seemed to me that the connector's dimensions were not the same and thus would not fit. Be as it may, in the end I was glad that I did not damage the motherboard, thanks to your video.

To avoid putting them both through the same PCI-E 1x, I'd put the 3.0 into the available motherboard connector... My motherboard has the 19 pin male header and I have connected the cable that came with the case. I don't know much about USB technology. Yes, 56 od quid! Although the one on Amazon is a SINEFINE Version.... When I needed a USB-C and as at the time I had a spare USB-3 header on the board I bought this..... Worked fine. (If you do a search it actually shows a single one for £15.00 There are some for as little as £8). Basically plugs into the USB-3 Header and adapts it into a USB-C header - and 2 in a pack.
@Mike's unboxing, reviews, and how to OK now I'm confused. Turns out the connection was on the wrong way. So it now works. However, it says USB C 3.2 Gen 1 and not Gen 2....it should be Gen 2...weird, right?

I picked up the 10Gbps version of this card, works perfectly adding 10Gbit USB-C to the front IO of my Fractual case (After I bought the IO cable and connector separately wtf Fractual?). However the type e female port is as weak as chocolate on a summers day, it will bend under the smallest pressure, stupidly I plugged mine in then needed to cable manage it differently, I figured I could move the cable a bit but the connector bent right down, as I moved it back up is snapped off. It is secured by 4 tiny spades, unlike the rigid USB 3.0 style port. Luckily all the pins were still file so I put it back on sliding over the metal data pins then 4 dabs of super glue down the sides and its fine. If it was an Amazon product I think I would have returned for replacement or alternative but cba with a 3rd party so just glued it. Just be careful, works perfectly but dont put the port under any pressure at all!
@@mikesunboxing yeah for sure, seems crazy to do it like that, if you don’t push the connector in perfectly straight you risk snapping it off. It’s bad enough when you are having to plug 24 pins in whilst bending the cable back behind the motherboard, at least I haven’t snapped one of those yet! Still anyway thanks for the video and pointing out these cards, I had no idea my mother board was missing this connector, im surprised yours survived the little finger push you did though in the video ahah!

@mikesunboxing thanks for the reply yeah I have the lian li evo 011 XL and it's sayin on pc parts it needs more usb 3.0 ports for the front IO usb ports so would this solve it for me
@@tbanger9153 ah yeah perfect
@@mikesunboxing so it should
Do you have to put both of them in or can just one work still
they can work together or single
Does it matter if I keep the USB 3.0 plugged into the MOBO? And just use this to be able to plug in the type C cable?
that is fine
My Asus motherboard has the 3.0 header, but the manual states a module is not installed and must be purchased separately.
what motherboard is it
@@mikesunboxing ASUS Prime B450M-A 2
I learned after calling ASUS that most, if not all motherboards are built with 2.0 USB. I somebody wants 3.0 they must buy the module installed on an optional PCIE card. My motherboard has the 19 pin male header and I have connected the cable that came with the case. I don't know much about USB technology. But, now that I have removed my optical drive, I need to learn all that I can.
Coming up as £56.88 on the Amazon link. Either they've got their pricing wrong or it's very expensive!
sorry checking it now
updated
@@mikesunboxing That's more like it! I was lucky enough to have the correct headers on my mobo for my 4000D but very handy if you don't. Thanks for the review 😊
Yes, 56 od quid! Although the one on Amazon is a SINEFINE Version.... When I needed a USB-C and as at the time I had a spare USB-3 header on the board I bought this..... Worked fine. And they were £29 a year and a half ago aswell! I only used one of them and still got the other one....
LINKUP - (2 PACK) [Active Chip] USB 3.0 (3.1 Gen 2) Internal IDC 20 Pin Motherboard Header to A-Key (Type-E) 20 Pin Female Converter for Type C Panel Mount Adapter. (If you do a search it actually shows a single one for £15.00 There are some for as little as £8).
Basically plugs into the USB-3 Header and adapts it into a USB-C header - and 2 in a pack.
@@makiwa Thanks for the info 🙂
Mike...I got the same case....my motherboard has the 3.2 gen 2
But on the bios it says empty?
Any ideas?
Got the mag B550 tomahawk wifi
The USB C on the front panel I mean
not sure might need some back and fourth on that, do you have discord?
@Mike's unboxing, reviews, and how to OK now I'm confused.
Turns out the connection was on the wrong way.
So it now works. However, it says USB C 3.2 Gen 1 and not Gen 2....it should be Gen 2...weird, right?

I've been looking for a solution for this since my B550-F Strix lacked the header for the Type C front panel connector. Consider me subbed. Cheers.
thanks for the sub
I have the Problem, that i've done all that, but the docking station im plugging into the USB-C has Displays connected, which are not working. Any solutions ?
does the motherboard or whatever it is support USB C display? not many motherboard if any that i know of support it
can you remove the bracket and just plug it in?
if you want to i guess as long as it is secured
@@mikesunboxing Thanks man I'm not a fan of removing my original case bracketts :D
Definitely a game changer with my current B450-Gaming F II it only has 1 usb 2.0
what if you only have 1 pcie, for the gpu?
well you have a difficult choice to make
i had to use one of these as my primary usb header because the person who had this mobo before me bent and broke the pins on the motherboard usb header
yeah it happens a lot
Thank you
Is it ok to just use a USB 3.0 connector instead of both USB 3.0 and Type E?
Yes that is fine
This is useful. Unfortunately, my GPU directly blocks those slots on my motherboard and it would be impossible to install. :/ guess i have to get a new motherboard
yes that is a problem for some boards, or maybe look at a PCIe extension cable
@@mikesunboxing yeah I'm getting an extension cable for my GPU and vertically mounting it to make room. So far the cost is $94 to get the adapter, pcie usb thing, and now the extension cable. May see how prime day on Amazon affects the prices tomorrow, but I may just get a new motherboard if it's comparable in price...
@@vlydenknoxFingers crossed for some great prices and bargains 🙂
I have a motherboard with a 3.0 port, but my case has a 3.2 cable
this is likely what you need then
I picked up the 10Gbps version of this card, works perfectly adding 10Gbit USB-C to the front IO of my Fractual case (After I bought the IO cable and connector separately wtf Fractual?).
Just be careful, works perfectly but dont put the port under any pressure at all!
makes me anxious with these connectors
@@mikesunboxing yeah for sure, seems crazy to do it like that, if you don’t push the connector in perfectly straight you risk snapping it off. It’s bad enough when you are having to plug 24 pins in whilst bending the cable back behind the motherboard, at least I haven’t snapped one of those yet!
Still anyway thanks for the video and pointing out these cards, I had no idea my mother board was missing this connector, im surprised yours survived the little finger push you did though in the video ahah!
nifty little ad on card may get one to save going b550 mobo
it is quite handy and saved me having to buy a new motherboard
The Vbus pin of the USB-C 3.0 actually broke off on the motherboard.
oh no! that is not good
@@mikesunboxingI can at least add one of these to my PCIe slot.
I need one of those, that also includes wifi and bluetooth 😅
that would be very cool
Can I get this in India?
amazon should have it in stock
@@mikesunboxing Didn't found one, Can you help?
