- Black Panther (2018) is one of the highest grossing movies of all time, as well as one of the highest grossing marvel movies around. There are a thousand videos all over UA-cam analyzing this movie to all end, talking about how Killmonger is the best villain, how brilliantly Ryan Coogler directed Black Panther, how Black Panther bplays into the MCU, all sorts of stuff.
But for some reason or another, there doesn't seem to be anyone talking about one aspect of this film that is one of, if not the, most pervasive theme throughout it: How Black Panther Brilliantly Defines Cultural Identity and Racial Identity. The concepts of cultural identity vs racial identity are ponderous and there are entire graduate level courses which barely scratch the surface of their intricacies, but in video essay, I want to talk about this obvious aspect that FOR SOME REASON, nobody else on UA-cam has talked about. Weird.

Absolutely brilliant commentary. You got the point many have missed. Because of their own biases and limits in frame of reference. It is true, until someone has seen more of the world themselves to see and find out who they are themselves, they would not grasp the true/layered plot of the film . About the fact thing about "why can they speak english", maybe because they have wifi? And the internet? Didn't Tchala's sister expressed her disappointments when he took her to the apartment instead of Starbucks or Disneyland? I mean, they probably know about all those things going on outside (knowing about the language and the culture and all) but, they cared more about their own long kept peace in Wakanda (plus the danger of letting other people know about the vibranium? Not sure) than going out to help other people who they see as "outsiders"? All the threat that they were aware of was colonization and all that that entails rather than the struggle with racism, after all... Am I making sense? My brain is soggy.

Wow. I truly enjoyed this video. Very well done and excellent points all. A tear of joy ran down my cheek at 4:45 - 5:05 because someone else finally sees what hit us so hard during this movie. It is the type of thing that can't necessarily be articulated at the moment. Rather, it is FELT on a soul-deep, ancestral level while watching the film.
This is also why Killmonger is one of the best and most vividly drawn villains in the history of movies. It's why we secretly identify with him but don't want to say it. Because he is All Of Us. We go about addressing the problem in a different way, but 100% of his *motivation* is approved by every Black person I've ever come across.

well, a lot of the people reviewing BP, don't access their own cultural identity, in that the vast majority of them are American born white men. Most of them have never given any thought to cultural identity ,and couldn't define it anyway. You have experiences of culture they don't which allows you to see it what they cannot.

Oh life is good, don't you worry. And I write the videos over on Trend Central , I'm just really busy and making these videos that maybe make me $100 every 3 months really just isn't worth my time right now. Once I have a bit more money saved, like enough to not have to work for a few months at least, I'll get back. I have tons of scripts, literally more than 20, it's just a lot of work to edit the videos.
@@GeorgeOfGeorge my dad's company makes hand sanitizer and alcohol so I've been helping out there and it IMMEDIATELY lifted me out of the poverty I got myself into by chasing UA-cam as a career lol
But thankfully I'm using the opportunity to save as much as possible so when I have enough money that I can live off just the interest/dividends/growth from the investments (maybe like 1-2k a month) I'll stop and be able to comfortably do this thing that makes no money again until it does make money, which it obviously will because as long as you're making consistent, high quality videos, it doesnt matterabout what, and follow the algorithm, you WILL eventually succeed on UA-cam. Never usually takes more than 18 months.

🦁. Yes, yes, all well and good. It's still a shit film though, & Thanos is galaxies beyond Killmonger as villain & as a character in general, & Killmonger is, no matter how spin it, a terrible villain, one of the worst in the MCU frankly. Honestly my assumptions on this video were this has to be a meme right, now after watching it, you seem to be quite sincere about your views on this film & put a lot of work into making this video, so I'll try not to be too nasty with my criticisms. Though really, I'm not even sure how to criticize this video, for example, what you said about the cultural differences & separation this movie tries to convey, don't really think any nuance or care went into this movie on how the differences between America, Wakanda & Africa as a whole conflicted with each other in meaningful way.
Though what you said about cultural differences in general, & your own personal trip you talked about at the start was fine, nothing much to criticize there, besides the personal trip thing is subjective anyway, so can't exactly say you're wrong about your own personal experience, &the editing was pretty good, so can't really criticize you for that.
However, there are some things that are definitely quite bothersome to me, such as, the lack of self awareness in the video when comes to your format, I'm not sure you know this, but it's a common thing to mock video essayists for there overdone format, MauLer, who you might know as the host of EFAP, a podcast that Jay Exci is a guest on & is friends with, who also does series called GDELB, that parodies really bad video essayists with their quotes and format, & two examples of their shitty format is speaking really softly & calmly, & putting the words up on the screen of what they are saying, when we can hear them fine, which is kinda what you were doing, so couldn't help but notice it & cringe a little, but don't get me wrong, you're not the worst video essayist that does this, & at least you show the relevant clips of what you are talking about, which most don't seem to do that for some reason.
Also wouldn't be saying that these films go into each other perfectly well, they have a lot issues when comes to continuity, especially now, though they are certainly a lot better then other attempted cinematic universes, such as the DCEU and Fox's X-Men universe. Also, certainly wouldn't be sucking Kevin Feige's dick too hard mate, he's kinda a scummy person behind the scenes, & we have him to thank for Captain Marvel & more wokeness to come in the MCU's future, though sorry if that last sentence comes off a bit harsh, but saying “can we give Feige some love” just got under my skin is all, & don't really have much respect for him or anyone that sucks him off.
Also, the only reason I'm aware of you & your channel, is because of your appearances on Jay's Aaahh channel, and you are the only member of the cast of Aaahh I'm not subscribed to, so after watching this video as my introduction to you, & if this is the staple of your content, don't think I'm going to watch the rest anytime soon, nothing against you personally, just think this doesn't do it for me, though wish you luck on your future endeavours.
