    Hello I appreciate you reading all my questions this week. The abdomen pelvis factor says 0.015 but does this take into account the other organs scanned to get the msv? Also is it 0.015 for abdomen and 0.015 for the pelvis separately?

    • @tinadavis2973
      @tinadavis2973 11 місяців тому

      For example I saw measurements for tissue dose for liver and bone marrow. Do I have to take this into account because the calculator only multiplies 0.015 for abdomen pelvis

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  11 місяців тому

      This is an appropriate approach and indicates the organs in the abdomen are different from the brain which is different than the chest. Select the one closest to your exam and keep in mind this is an appropriate method.

    • @tinadavis2973

      The appropriate method is the 0.015 as the k to multiply for abdomen pelvis

    Sir
    How to measure effective dose in ATCM if the hospital didnt have imPACT CT Scan spreadsheet?
    Is it allowed to use E/DLP? But thats for fixed tube mAs right?

    Is the DLP more for contrast ct ? I read that with contrast ct the body absorbs more ?

      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8452580/ , recent papers suggest about 30% increase in organ dose with iodine contrast. This is not included in traditional DLP methodology.

    Good day Doxtor, I am quite concerned about the DICOM information of the Brain CT without CE I underwent at age 32. Siemens sensation 16 slice :
    Total mAs 4751, Total DLP 927 CTDiVol 51.52 Kvp 120 Ref mAs 230
    Xray tube current 460 (same value in each image) slice thickness 4.5 exposure time 500
    Even tough DLP and CTDIvol is similar with your calculation my Total mAs value isn't it so high? What can be the reason and Did I get overdose radiation?
    Hope you help, Thanks

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  Рік тому

      Hi I don’t comment about anyone’s specific scans but a CTDI vol of 51 is very common and that metric is what matters. The total mAs is a bit of a confusing metric to use, but nothing is abnormal.

    congratulations great video short and easy to understand and great explanation i wonder if you can make video also on the how much can a human can withstand radiation i heard that below 100 milligray its okey on daily dose and you know best and i was wondering about the ion chamber that they use to test the dose rate of the ct scan so that they calibrate the ct scan because the small machines that they use for radiation dosing is extremely wrong that they sell on ebay or amazon the correct dose calibration is the ion chamber rod that they use with phantom i wonder if you can show us the ion chamber in action on the ct and the radiation itshows and thanks for your time to make this excellent videos that i didnt see anybody has video and explanation perfectly bravo

    Is it possible for the effective dose (mSv) of a low dose chest CT in patient A to be greater than the effective dosage of a regular chest CT in patient B?

    • @TheNettforce
      @TheNettforce Рік тому

      The size actually matters a lot so depending on how different the base protocols are yes you could get more dose for an individual who is very large. If patients are similar size the lower dose protocol should have lower dose between patients

  • @gracielamendoza7353

    So basically the number of CTDI isn’t what I got ? Because my ctdi dose says it was 43 for 1 ct scan. Does that mean if I input the DLP in the calculator I can calculate how much I really got ? Because I am panicking that I got a single dose of 43 for this one scan besides more ct scans the following week. So my msv received was not 43 just because the CTDI says 43 mgy?

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  10 місяців тому

      There should be units on it like 43 would be a very normal CTDI dose for the head in mGy. In that case you multiply by the length in cm to get DLP and then put that into the calculator

    • @gracielamendoza7353
      @gracielamendoza7353 10 місяців тому

      @@HowRadiologyWorkshi. Mine was for a CT Angiogram. The CTDI was 43.9. The DLP 720.9. I entered the DLP on the calculator and got 12. Is this the effective dose I received ?
      Also I’m worried because mine was with contrast and I read that absorbs 30% of the radiation. So do I add the 12 from the answer the calculator gave me plus the 13 from the 30% absorption.
      I hope you can reply.
      But also , can I be assured that the CTDI isn’t what I received ? My biggest fear was seeing CTDI 43. I thought this was the msv I got ? It’s not ?
      Thank you

    Hey i recently underwent a head CT ( NCCT brain)..But i was given 2 CT datasets ( image sheets) instead of 1..Does it mean they repeated scan and i got double exposure to radiation..SFOV , slice thickness, Voltage was same in both CT datasets and current was also mostly same( 160 ma in middle rows of both dataset and lower values on upper and bottom rows)..Please if u could comment upon it..I m really worried

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  9 місяців тому

      Typically the same raw data from the detector is used to make two image sets: one for soft tissue and one for bone. On the dose report it should include all the acquisitions but it sounds like you just had one. If there was contrast injected after the first scan then it may have been more than one

    Sir my head non contrast CT done on two slice machine. 100mA and 120 kb. What would be mSv? Highly worried

    • @HowRadiologyWorks
      @HowRadiologyWorks  Рік тому

      Hi Friend, I don’t comment on individual dose and unfortunately that is not enough information to calculate a mSv. The facility that did the imaging should be able to give you the dose in mGycm at least and then you can use an online calculator to get to mSv. These are standard parameters though so you should not be highly worried

  • @venhaicon8693
    @venhaicon8693 6 місяців тому

    Don’t be highly worried about CT dose actually doctors and medical workers try to use lowest dose for patients and the risk of cancer caused by CT scan is just theory with the low ratio about 0.002-0.04%
    Otherwise, DPL parameter is not the total amount patient absorbed , it’s the dose of CT scanner.

    And how much risk ...

      I see they did not respond to you. I put your data in their calculator and I could be one hundred percent wrong. Your msv came out to be .015 whatever that means. And your EFF dose MSv came out to be 67.650. I have no idea what any of that means I only use their calculator and entered your number of 4510. I have been trying to get a straight answer about my own numbers.
