This sounded like a performance by a seasoned, older soul. The restraint, the control, the sheer delight of each chord, each harmony... what a talent. What a talent!
Thank you for coming to Texas and playing for us, Jan. Imagine my day: First I discover you on UA-cam for the first time, and listened to many of your videos. Then after a Google search, discovering your website. Curious to see your concert schedule, I checked your website Calendar. Then on April 29th, that same day, you're performing in a small Texas town university only 110 miles from me. I raced to get ready and driving in the worse thunderstorm of the season, I'm heading to see your performance with tornadoes only miles from me. Nothing could stop me from being there. It's a mystery why you would perform for our small town audience in Texas; however, it was such a blessing you did. Let me say how profound your performance was, especially the encore. I was 5 rows from the stage and saw the sweat beading down your face, and how you rarely opened your eyes. You were the music, and the piano was a perfect extension of your spirit. Many times during your playing, the hairs on my arms literally stood up. Jan, you have a talent not from this world. The electricity you create is beyond magical. Thank you for giving me one of the finest moments in my life. Please Jan, return to us soon. I'll be there. From a new fan in Texas.
Sooo beautiful. Sits at the piano stool near the edge as Horowitz did, Has min-able body movement as Rubinstein did, fingers are like gold almost like KZimerman. If you know them, You will know I give a great complement.
Hi Jan, my father was an australian concert pianist Raymond O'Connell. He was like yourself a child prodigy and played with many famous conductors, Barbirolli, Sargent, Wood etc. You are the first pianist i have heard and i include richter, rubinstein and many of the old masters who have my fathers touch, phrasing and musician ship. If you go through the other videos of this piece by other acclaimed pianist they play too fast and lack your wonderful touch and emotion. Thank you so much for this.
Despite the few errors, very nice interpretation, Jan, especially for how old you were here. But, I see you've recorded CDs of Chopin, Mozart etc. but No LISZT??? The ultimate master. You must do so! -
During the 9 soul-destroying years i spent in a piano store, I heard this piece played dozens of times, on instruments better than this Yamaha, but with less finesse and emotion. Jan restores the piece to its rightful place.
jan lisiecki, i have know idea how old you are, but I think you are brilliant :) i was looking for something inspiring, and this is exactly what i need. so thank you, for making my day and helping me with my own playing. brilliant, brilliant, brilliant :)
Hey Jan! This is Weston from Bachauer and virginia waring. I just thought i would say hi. I remember listening to you play this piece. Youre still one of my favorite pianists.
just wondering if you only play classical music, and nice playing you seem to like Franz Liszte and Chopin do you like Rachmaninoff. Once again very Beautiful playing.
Great great great!!!! I have to see you live. In November 2013 your in Germany, Hamburg at the Concerthall i will go there!. Your really talented and amazing. I think you are now 18 or 19?
nice piece, Jan. was it your idea to cross and switch hands to keep the melody or was it suggested by the composer? anyway it goes so smoothly under your fingers. i saw this kind of technique in the gigue B flat by J.S. Bach.
It was a great interpretation, Jan, definitely up there with Cliburn's and Hamelin's. I'm just curious about one thing though. Why do you sit so far on the edge of the chair. Just looking at it makes me uncomfortable haha.

+camillo Flaim Questo non è Chopin, Liszt era un uomo sposato ed aveva 4 figli per cui sapeva che significato avesse un sopspiro; sospiro non è una tormenta.
Perhaps I am wrong but it seems to me that this prestigeous group of people, I assume many of whom are affiliated with D.G, seem to think this performance is good. Yet two or 3 people posted some blistering negativity about Jan's playing. Now I wonder, who is correct. Those closely affiliated with classical performances or some failed wanna-be concert pianist who is demanding attention by making extensive and grossly negative criticisms of an 18 year old boy. I wonder of those with so much to say can present their credentials and mentioned the number of commercial recordings their company has released. I would otherwise suggest that you smash your keyboard or just don't bother listening to Jan's performances. If you can't say something nice - don't say anything at all especially when you are one voice drowned out by the applause of many - likely far more qualified then you are to criticize Jan.
Pretty good for his age, missed a couple of notes, not enough emotions and development in phrases, melody line should be better when its jumps from one hand to another, all interpretation of this piece not mature , which is absolutely understandable. Great kid! Big future for sure, but i plaid it better while ago, trust me. Graduated from Leningrad conservatory Alex with all respect for this great kid.

This is one of the most beautiful performances of this piece that i have ever heard in my life!
Love the tempo. Everyone seems to rush it so much!
It's because of the tempo written on the score
What a sound!
You've brought tears to my eyes. I'm weeping!
God bless you!

Mr. Liszt wove notes together THIS way and look what happened. A tapestry of indescribable beauty replicated by a young, gifted pianist.
gives me shivers down my spine..
I was at that competition. time flies. I wish I could keep my back that straight.
wow amazing, I remember him playing in Stratford, the many etudes of chopin. Very amazing pianist!
Excelente, lo mejor de los mejores publicados. Profundamente suave. Jan publica otras como esta pieza de Liszt.

Sound verry smooth
If you think this is good.....you should seem him play it now....after he has gotten a little bit older.......
R Roberts, exactly. This video was post when Jan was 14!! Incredible playing from one so young at the time. OK, maybe Mozart or Haydn were better. :)
Precisely, Roberts. He has not stopped growing and maturing. And he has many decades to go.
Bravo indeed!!
I absolutely love you!!!! you inspire me *O*
Envolvente.inebriante. majestoso. Pianista de muito talento. Indiscutível.
very interesting!!!
just wondering if you only play classical music, and nice playing you seem to like Franz Liszte and Chopin do you like Rachmaninoff. Once again very Beautiful playing.

I still can't believe he sold Wonka's factory for a piano
for a Yamaha CF-III I would sell a lot of things
retrogamerdave let me correct myself. For a Yamaha CF-III plus his hands I would trade just about ANYTHING
Sí que Liszt sentía profundamente el alma humana.
wow :D
Wow are you young here. Nice to know I don't need to speed up my cadenzas by much to be credible :)
oh my goodness

@michalina717
mówi i to bardzo pięknie, praktycznie bez akcentu ;-)
@ksudibjo to be able to rutch around on the seat easier and easily access the low and high end of the piano without moving around too much
Liszt would kiss your forehead after this concert... if this is in 1870~80 :P
I hope you don't were in a piano competition with me… You're gonna walk over me...
12.05.2015 Beginn des Lernens des Stückes :)

Più che "un sospiro" è " un Cospiro" perchè troppo veloce.

Quite a bit of messed up keys no? Still very great obviously but maybe he should be looking at the keys a little more lol
Maravilhoso !!!!!!!!!
