Tonight I discovered Jan Lisiecki by accident as I was l looking through UA-cam and watching various other artists' videos. I came across a video of Jan playing Chopin's etudes and decided to listen. I was mesmerized and then proceeded to spend the rest of the evening watching many of his other videos, including those of his younger years. Wow! How did I miss the phenomenal talent? He has certainly earned another fan tonight and I'll certainly be watching to see if he ever plays in concert somewhere near where I live.

It happened to me exactly the same way. I had never heard of him before I listened to one of his interpretations here, and then I could not stop listening to more. This makes me think that there is much more talent out there than we can possibly cover, and this gives me an optimistic outlook.

The best Pianist of the moment; definitly... Is really very very rare finding a Pianist today with an artistry and a musical sensibilità like this... And then at this age!!! For me Absolutly the best...

This wonderful performance was the first time I heard Jan Lisiecki play. It was a broadcast Prom from the Albert Hall which - by chance - I watched on my new big plasma TV :-) It was the summer of 2013. Since then I have followed Mr Lisiecki with close attention, bought his two Deutsche Grammophon CDs and even attended a live concert at the Royal Festival Hall here in England. He deserves all the praise that has been heaped on him. An extraordinary talent and an admirable human being.

This was one of the most magical performances I have ever witnessed. It was an incredibly hot night and the Royal Albert Hall does not have air-conditioning; it must have been so incredibly uncomfortable for all the artists. Even as audience members we were broiling but the beautiful performance of the Schumann (followed by an exquisite encore -- the Chopin Nocturne in C sharp minor) made it a night never to be forgotten despite the discomfort. Thank you Maestros Pappano and Lisiecki!

Jan, thank you for this Christmas gift! Its wonderful to see you playing an entire piece rather than just hearing it on the CD. This was wonderful... beautiful music and you just get better and better. It wasn't like you were playing that piano... its more lie you made it into something much more than a piano... something bigger and more musical, more alive.. I know virtually nothing about Schumann so now I will go read and try to understand what he was thinking when he wrote this. I'm betting he would have felt you made it even better than he could have imagined. Thanks again...

Another wonderful artist! I certainly wish him a long successful career. The problem is that classical music is irrelevant to young people. The news was full of an asthenic pop singer who killed himself with a narcotic overdose.
He was worth millions. Young people were hailing him as a "musical genius!?"
These same young people have never heard of Beethoven and could care less about another brilliant young pianist.
All throughout Europe millions of Muslim immigrants are moving in. Eventually they will over-populate and outlaw museums and close down concert halls as being "anti-Islamic."
Our Western culture is being closed down in front of our eyes. I wonder where this wonderfully talented young man will go when all of the elderly people who now go to classical concerts die off,
Perhaps Asia? There are 100 new amazing classical pianists trying to establish an International career every new week.
Sorry folks. That's just reality speaking.

plumeria66 And our stupid country just elected a rude, crude publicity hound as "president" so things will go to hell that much faster. Glad I grew up in the 50's (and my mother was a classical pianist who played Chopin all the time).

Flypurplecat No offense, but I happened to like Trump. Look at what he will do, not what he will say. People can say a lot about things... Hell, I can say that I went to Mars and back and NASA is just getting started? LOL. Trump is all about AMERICA FIRST... My Dad have been driving to work all these years.... He always complaining... One of these days... A Bridge might collapse and I will die... Years of FEARS that my Dad been driving to work and back home. He was GLAD that someone will be fixing those. Also, another complaint from him was.... They take his Taxes.. And give it out to EVERYONE / OVERSEAS than our own People. He said, he would rather have it spend here first, USA Once we have done that and anything left, then we donate to charities.. Aka Overseas etc... But we must taking care of our People first. I have listened to my Dads' complaints for YEARS at our dinner table.... Funny thing is... The only Person who EVER heard his cries were Donald J. Trump and what's funny about it, my Dad NEVER Spoke to or MET Trump.

Jan, you again invade, take up space in, and leave my soul complete! I have a question:
What was the problem with the Oboeist? He looked pissed that you were there, much less owning the work. Anything to that?
Someday, I hope you will share with me the story you told me in this piece. It was, like you, perfect! :)

The concertmaster looks pretty dismissive of Lisiecki, doesn't he? During the cadenza in the first movement he is casually looking at the ceiling of the hall, in fact ANYWHERE other than at Mr Lisiecki. And then at the conclusion of the concerto he returns the most unsmiling, perfunctory handshake I have ever seen a concertmaster give to a soloist. It looks as if the concertmaster regards him as just some flash- in - the - pan over- rated kid who doesn't really deserve to be playing in such illustrious company.
