- Was the ump out of line? Can a batter kick at the ball? Ump thought he should address the parents and the parents didn’t think he should assume the batter was really going to kick the ball. 13U Baseball
Umpire went out of his way to explain the situation. He wasn't required to, but was absolutely NOT out of line. Good call. That is a perfect teaching moment for players, coaches, and fans, alike.
How is this even a question? Pretty obvious he kicked at the ball. What's the umpire out of line for?
Been umpiring for 35 years & this man absolutely did the right thing when it comes to Youth Baseball. It was not his job to explain ANYTHING but in his mind he felt it was warranted. Nice job Blue !
He was not out of line at all. He explained the situation sternly but not loudly. The kid’s lucky he wasn’t ejected. I wish MLB umpires had this kind of intellect.
Superb actions by the umpire. The kid had a typical “kid’s brain fart”, probably thought he could get a “hit by pitch”, pass to first base, definitely stuck his foot out to allow it to get hit by the pitch. The ump did a great job explaining to everyone that isn’t legal.
The overlay text on here is super wrong. Any time the batter gets hit by a pitch, it is always a dead ball. If he got hit on purpose, then in high school, it's just a ball, no base award. Ball still dead. If it was in the strike zone, it's a strike.
LOL He absolutely kicked at the ball. Blue calmly explained the consequence if he had actually hit the ball. Parents were wrong, he was 100% correct.
Batter kicked at the ball. Good communication by umpire on a situation that doesn't happen all the time. Edit. What was confusing to me was the language by umpire not a dead ball if kicked at and touched because if batter is hit by pitch that doesn't allow the batter to go to first then it is a dead ball and runners can't advance if applicable. Ball or strike depending if batter hit in or out of strike zone.
As a former Umpire, I did the same thing when I Umpired Little League Games. There is nothing wrong with what he did by helping develop young men to learn the rules of the game as they go along to become better players and respect and follow the rules as to which they were written to play the game correctly. Good job on good communication by the Ump!
Umpire did his job perfectly. No way can anyone say he didn't.
I give kudos to this empire. He is probably only making $50-$75 a game. He made the right call and also took the time to calmly explain why he called what he did. This man is a pro at his job!
Why can’t all umps and refs be like this dude?
That kid is lucky for not getting ejected of unsportsmanlike Conduct or called out
He didn't have to tell the kid AND parents but did anyhow. Great job
Some good umpiring. Straight shooter vibes
Ump was in his right to make a right call & explained his reason. Good job Blue.
Now that's a great ump! He definitely kicked that ball on purpose!
That’s a good youth umpire, explaining why it would be live if it hit him.
Great call by the umpire, kept it in a professional manner 👍
Now that's one good umpire MLB need one like him
