Nissan 350Z Headlight bulb replacement factory HID (2006-2009) | AnthonyJ350

- In this video we do a step by step tutorial for changing out your headlight bulbs on your 350Z. I prefer to remove the wheel to maximize clearance, because I run a larger diameter wheel and tire combination compared to stock. Also many Z owner's have their vehicles lowered so this method will make things easier.
Also with the wheel off and the inner fender lining removed, now is the time to do a quick inspection of other components, like the ABS wiring and other lights and make sure there is no damage or wear. If you need to replace anything, now is the time to do it.

*Very helpful. I did it without removing the fender cover and the wheel. I turned the steering wheel all the way to one side, popped the fender cover out as much as I could with a flat screwdriver, and simply reached in did it like that.*

Same here , bugger to complete ...
I'm old. Therefore I remember when changing a headlight meant changing a headlight and nothing more. I miss those days.
Thanks for the fine tutorial.
I agree it's silly. They could have designed the bottom with 2 vertical metal guide pins and use 2 ten millimeter bolts to hold the headlight housing in and you could pop it out in 5 minutes.
Most vehicles are engineered for cost of manufacturing so you get over complicated servicing like this unfortunately.
This really saved me a trip to a mechanic man thanks. My z is already missing the fender liners so I didn’t neeed to remove the wheel it was easy to do just by moving the wheel where it allows space for you to work on it.
Glad it helped!
I just changed my 350z lightbulb thank u
Glad to hear it helped!
Very clear dude! Nice vid! I was going to have a shop install the new bulbs that should arrive soon, however this seems like something even I can do! Thanks man 👍🏼
Glad to hear the video was able to help you!
Thank you SO much, your zip vids are so helpful and I appreciate you so much.
Glad to hear the videos are helping you!
Thanks for making this video man. The people that "Fixed" the front end of my car didn't even plug in the bulb and test it when they replaced it. thanks to this video I was able to figure that out.
That's awesome you were able to perform the fix!
Great video! Definitely saves taking the whole front bumper off!
Glad it helped!
Very, very helpful and very well done! Thank you so much.
Glad it helped!
This worked for my 2005 350z... Thank you !
Glad it helped!
Thanks
Saved me 200 dollars labor...
Mechanic...thieves
Probably 30 min job if you have a power car jack
Also I did not need to remove lining...
Only one screw undone on lining then bent over and hold
Thanks for watching!
Nice tutorial! Do you know how to aim the +06 headlights?
Thanks for the video.
+Anthony Chavez Glad it helped!
Awesome video! Thanks!!
Glad it helped you 🙂
This guy is a G. Super helpful and very informative. Thanks brother
I own a 2009 370Z and I'm the ONLY owner of this vehicle. It wasn't until last week I noticed that my headlight on my passenger side started to flicker ever so slightly. Later on that evening after my AUTO lights kicked on I noticed the passenger side headlight didn't turn on. I turned my headlights OFF and ON 3-times consecutively and mysteriously both headlights turned on. I'm assuming at this point it is either a Xenon bulb going bad or perhaps a bad ballast. What's your thoughts?
Michael Ranallo The ballast might be going out. Did you change the bulb already?
Not yet. I wanted to get your input first. I just watched your video on how to properly jack up your 370Z so I can remove the tire, pull back the splash guard within the wheel well and gain access to the cap housing the LED Xenon bulb.
I was also curious what LED Bulbs are compatible with my 2009 370Z. I noticed a lot of people saying that they installed new ballast's but when they upgraded their LED headlights they were having some functionality issues (headlights randomly shutting off, flickering or not even turning ON anymore).
Michael Ranallo You probably need to relay them to stabilize the voltage.
Thank you bro you helped ne with ny ballast, but i just wanted to see how the 6k looks on a clean headlight cheers bro
Thanks for watching!
very helpful
Joangel Villegas Glad it helped!
Thank you. I had to fiddle quite a bit with the cover (round white one), it was unwilling to come out after years of not being opened. Delicate prying with a relatively dull screwdriver helped
Glad you got the job done!
@@AnthonyJ350 your video was a great help. Keep them coming!
Great video thanks
Glad you liked it!
You the man!
Thank you!
Good lord. Just to change a bulb. Good video though. Very helpful
People like being spoon fed answers. I have to be thorough...
yea im trying to change mine as i bought my 350z and my low beams are literally blue at like 12k or something. I have never been pulled over for it but it sucks as illuminating anything.
thanks !
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!

Can u plz mention where did get ur headlights from and bulb used / brand
Look into Philips.
Have you done anything to restore your headlights? Mine are starting to become very 'cloudy'. Where as yours look brand new. Any suggestions would be great.
I actually bought the car like this. I would try those polishing headlight restoration kits. I also wax the headlights then buff them out whenever we detail the car.
Cheers Mate, keep you the good work!
Can I do this by removing the headlight from the engine bay instead?
2007 350z.
Im all stock, havent lowered I just really dont want to mess with the plastic wheel wells and all that if possible.
It looks like I can un bolt the headlight from above and pull it?
Mine has condensation in it so I need to pull it anyway to inspect it and figure out why water got in there.
You can, but you have to remove the top portion of bumper to remove the headlight
ua-cam.com/video/qZDtvOuY2O4/v-deo.html
I'd removed the top screws and a few tabs and pulled aside, much easier than taking all under try out the way, but easy to do and chnage after my burnt bulbs keep making it strobe flash
Thanks for sharing!
I have a 2003 350z and I’m trying to add on some 2006 headlights to the car cuz I love the look. Is it possible to fit on 2006 headlights onto a 2003?
Yes bro
Did you try it?
Do you have any in car footage of what the light spread/view looks like pov?
Sorry, I don't have any actually.
Where did you get these bulbs from and what is the brand? There is so many out there and i wanna get a high quality bulb
Philips from my local auto parts store
Can you run that city light next to the main bulb by it self?
That all depends on what your local laws state. You won't be able to see very well and people might not notice you as much.
Damn just to change the headlights.
+Suazzz Yaaaa, changing out bulbs is the only crappy maintenance item on these cars. That's why it's worth going LED. And spark plugs aren't the easiest thing either.
Wait til you have to have to change the Ballast .....Bumper comes off lol
Hi, I want to change my headlight bulbs (high and low beam, 350z 2003) are H1 and H7 the correct models for led conversion?
Check Sylvania's website database to verify style of bulb.
Thanks
Hey A question:
Which type of Plug or socket type 350z 2008 has? Like H7 or H9 or something else? I want order Led and xenon but don’t the right plug. Plz help
H7 ...
Should be H7, you can double check on Sylvania's bulb guide.
Was that a piece of the slash shield chipping off?
It happened right as you were telling us not to worry because its pretty tough haha....but thanks for the tutorial!
It was the retaining clip attached to the fender. I placed it back on after.
Ohhh ok haha it looked like a piece chipped off, especially when you stopped for a few seconds and didn't say anything and then just skipped to the next scene.
did you put something on your Headlight exterior? is that a white sticker strip?
Yup it's this. ua-cam.com/video/CGgEZ-IzTYE/v-deo.html
You can get them here. rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5337982243&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FPainted-For-350Z-Z33-Fairlady-Z-2D-Coupe-Eyelid-Eyebrows-Headlight-Cover-03-%2F221712652052%3Ffits%3DModel%253A350Z%26hash%3Ditem339f1a9714%3Ag%3AJtQAAOSwzaJYBuXY%26vxp%3Dmtr
So on my 06 350z, I have these little square looking boxes above my turn signal bulbs, and I noticed yours didnt have any and the bulbs arent orange on yours. that gives it a way cleaner look and was wondering if all I have to do is remove the boxes or is there anything specific I need to buy
Are you in North America?
yea
Erick Vite Not sure what's on your lens. I'd have to see a picture.
cache4.pakwheels.com/ad_pictures/670/nissan-350z-aftermarket-bi-xenon-headlights-set-6708943.jpeg the box is barely visible but its the best one I could find
Oh that gets yellow or orange over time from the turn signal. You can try to put an LED bulb version but if it gets "stained" you'd have to put a new housing in.
Hi I replaced my light bulbs on my 06 350z but it doesn’t turn on..what does that mean?
Ballasts could be done. Or your switch isn't working. I would check the fuses and headlight relay if there's one.
Would someone know why my driver side light randomly just stopped working it was working fine
Burnt bulb? How old is the bulb?
AnthonyJ350 nah it was that ballast there’s A lot of condensation inside the headlight do I have to replace it or just seal around the ballast?
@@ssloth5591 You'll most likely need to replace it ua-cam.com/video/mxWoQjnTTLg/v-deo.html
Hello its me again, i have an 03 Z and i wanted to change my incandescent bulbs to LEDs, but im a bit confused. Do i need 2 different LEDs for high and low beams? Or is it just one LED bulb for both high and low? I looked online for the bulb sizes and it says H1 and H7, but i would love if you could give me clarification please!
Jose Martinez I've seen LED that has another bulb in the same assembly to do both. Let me find my video.
Jose Martinez ua-cam.com/video/rIAMPMNiM74/v-deo.html
AnthonyJ350 do you have instagram or snapchat so i can show you?
Jose Martinez I have Instagram
AnthonyJ350 do you mind sharing it with me?
I changed the bulb but it’s not turning on what could it be?
It's probably the ballast ua-cam.com/video/mxWoQjnTTLg/v-deo.htmlsi=tcGrdqNORilwO8Zw
Hi, is that hid bulb d2s or d2r?
D2S sure
What headlights are these and where did you get them?
The bulbs?
The bulbs too, but the actual headlight shell.
Is it the same for the 03 05 models
Victor Hugo As far as I know it's pretty much the same procedure just different bulbs.
AnthonyJ350 what bulb would you recommend for an 03 I'm looking at some on eBay their 6k white xenon his replacement those sound correct right
Philips
I have an 06 and the orange bulb went out. Do you have any idea where and how to replace?
The little LED marker lights?
@@AnthonyJ350 yeah
@@adamnejad6250 You would have to take it apart and solder in a new one. I've never done it.
@@AnthonyJ350 okay. Thanks for the response
which bulb did you use? do you have the link
What year car do you have?
i have a 2008 hr and im looking for this do u have the link still?
Same need help
Very helpful Anthony! Quick question i noticed on your headlight your parking lights/turn signal lights aren't on and it looks way better like that! Normally when i turn on my headlight switch my orange parking lights which are also the turn signal lights turn on, how did you manage to cut that parking light off? Thanks in advance!
Alexander Diaz I'm not sure because i purchased the vehicle that way and all my wiring is intact at the light. My other buddy's 2006 is also like that. I believe it's 3 wires going to that light so you could in theory terminate the parking light wire. I'd install a switchback led bulb that does white and amber.
AnthonyJ350 Thank you soo much Anthony! By any chance would you know which one of these 3 wires the parking light wire is?
What’s the part number for the headlight cover gasket ?
Not sure you'll have to ask the dealership.
What color should go with
4k-6k
where to get OEM 06+ headlights?
Z1 Motorsports
@@AnthonyJ350 quite expensive there. Any other sources?
How do I fix the 4 little orange dotted lights on the sides?
None of them turn on? Does the little bulb in the front corner turn on?
@@AnthonyJ350 yes the bulb does, just the drivers side 4 little lights don’t, passenger side works…
@@SSerilumm sounds like an internal issue. The headlight would have to be removed and wiring inspected
Quick question I have an 06 z33, and my left side is brighter then right side. I've changed my bulbs, can is be the ballast?
Also my headlight are bright as hell! I flicker the high beam and nothing changes, so I believe it's perm high beam? What do you think is the problem? A lot of cops flash their spot lights at me often, but it's just the way the light shines. Any help?
Well if you see no difference you may be stuck on high beam, and possibly just the left side if you're saying one is more dim. Address the high beam issue then see if you have a difference in brightness.
+AnthonyJ350 what do you mean I'm stuck on high beam?
Victor 350z Well you said nothing happens when you pull back for high beam right?
+AnthonyJ350 I turn on headlights and its bright, then I flicker it to high beams but the lights don't get brighter or lighter.
+Victor 350z So ya the lights are stuck on one position.
Curious as to which is the brightest Kelvin rating is it 6000k ?
6K is the max I would go as it starts to turn more bluish after and law enforcement doesn't like seeing that. 4K is more a stock looking white
@@AnthonyJ350 Yeah I think the ones I had installed are 8k's because I was told 10k would be too blue for the police and they would give me a hard time. So k would be ideal then. I have the projectors just like yours and even the same color car.
@@DragoMusivini The ones in the video are 6000K. I like them, just super white, with a touch of blue.
@@AnthonyJ350 When I turn my brights on with the 8k it is stupid bright because it is some sort of two stage or something can you explain what the installer might have meant?
Something related to two stage.
what size are bulbs
My car takes a HID-D2S. These are the factory HID style.
Where can I get bulbs??
Local auto parts store, try to get a brand like Philips.
......... So what is the bulb size?
What year?
What Size Bulb?
D2S
where can I buy it?
Amazon
Local auto parts store or online
The white round cover is a pain in the bleep to put back
Ya it definitely can be.
Would you do full led conversion?
My car technically is besides the headlights. On my daily driver (2005 Silverado) I have done a complete conversion.
Where do I buy that bulb? 6000k?
Local auto parts store or online.
Zed = Canadian! LMAO
To be fair most countries but the States pronounces it that way.
it takes about a year and a half to put the darn cover back on.. sheeezzzz
Ya it's not easy
this not the way to go on a 2005?
+JustSwizzY I don't know, because I just did it on mine. And I know the 2006-09's are virtually identical. I'm sure the 05 will be very similar.
Hmm, i want to change to these bi-xenons on my Z but unsure if i can or not.
***** Check IJDMToy to see if they have upgraded housings for your year. Might not be the exact same, but similar.
what's the name/brand of those bulbs ?
+Luis Uribe They were just generic ones my buddy gave me. As long as you get the 6000K temperature it'll look similar. I'd check to see if Philips makes bulbs for the car, I've found they always make a good quality product.
is it different on a 2004?
The headlights are different but I'm pretty sure the procedure is the same.
I did this light still wont turn on. So fustrating
Your ballast might be defective.
@@AnthonyJ350 possibly I really hope not. But hey, thank you man. Great vid
Man this sucks none wrong with my bulbs but my z always had such low light output wtf !!!! Im mad and yes my bulbs have been replaced sometimes i cant see shit
Try polishing the lens?
@@AnthonyJ350 its not that man its literally the power output into ghe light they dim af it sucks and cant see shit at night highbeams barely make a difference either
@@javierpereida7832 You'd have to test the voltage at the plug to make sure everything is OK there.
Damn.. you gotta do all that to change a bulb on a Z? Jeez.
Ya probably the worst thing when it comes to basic maintenance on these cars.
I just bought a '08 350z about 2-3 weeks ago and was planning on swapping out the headlights for 8k, since my last car has 8k HIDs.
6K is the sweet spot.
It’s unnecessary to remove the wheel. When you jack it up you get enough room
More room makes it easier and makes a better video.
Why the fuck is the cap so hard to put on?
Better seal maybe?
@@AnthonyJ350 dude what
Maybe somewhat unrelated. By why did those moron engineers make it such a royal pain in the ass to change a headlight bulb with the 350Z....Darwins.
You should see most new cars, same trend or we're pulling off bumper skins to get at bulbs.
Most over complicated way to change a bulb on any car I've seen in real life.
Yup, changing exterior lights on this car in general is a process. But mechanical maintenance is straight forward. Put good quality bulbs in to minimize changing them out.
