Thank you for the trip down memory lane Julie. I was born in The Green hospital in 1955 and lived in Wallsend until I emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1985. I had many of the same memories that you are talking about in this video. I remember all of the same shops as you on Station Road and High Street. I have visited Wallsend many times over the years and still think of it as Home and it holds a very special place in my heart. Thank you x
Hi, I am a Wallsend lad, have been all my life, even same house I was concieved in. I do like your posts, you do more than I could be bothered to do. Sorry about my contradiction about Holy Cross Church, I know it has been a while, but sorry, about that, but I love your posts. I remember my mam taking me to Wallsend to get her shopping, she always bought me a gingerbread man, bless her, she is long gone now, but never forgotten. My heart is Wallsend, even the old statue in the forum. I think she was made of bronze, can't be sure? I am still here! Can't ever leave it, thanks.
That's ok Paul, I think because the gate was always unlocked when we were kids we just kind of forget it had a fence round it. I should have some new Wallsend videos added soon. And I am glad you enjoy them.
@@julieswallsendhistory8671 were you related to Wayne, I think I might know you, not personally, if so I haven't seen him for a few years now, you don't have to answer that, I understand. But I am interested in history, especially Wallsends history, even the fact that some of us may be part Italian! I know I am part Spanish and part Scottish! So, sort the bones out of that one! But hey, thanks, love your videos, keep them going!
@@julieswallsendhistory8671 Hi Julie an old Wallsend lad I do enjoy your videos and often while feeling a bit nostalgic do a google tour of the area in the comfort of my lounge chair here in Bendigo Australia, I am 90 years old so the chair and I spend a bit of time togather,Wallsend high street seems somewhat dismal these days to how I remember it, it was then a vibrant busy place lots of shops and pubs tailors etc Hepworths Montague Burton,The fifty Shilling Tailors! Walter Wilson the grocer, they used to say Walter Wilsons watery teas! but Iam sure that wasnt true, butcher shops fresh fishshops, individual shops run by folk one got to know, supermarkets were yet to come, enough cinemas to entertain us all the Ritz which was rather posh, the Borough or was it the Boro then the Royal or the Ranch as it was known as owing to lots of cowboy movies shown there, dancing at the MEM Saturday nights with a touch of romance in the air, today the old High St seems to be all Betfred and sadly not much else.I have another little tale regarding how as an office boy I delivered mail to Sir Summers Hunter who then resided at the Station Hotel Newcastle, and stuffed it up by losing the ticket to allow me to collect it from Wallsend Post Office, but thats for another day.
@@johnturnbull7176 That was really lovely to read, it's so nice that you have such good memories of Wallsend. Yes it's changed a lot over the years but it's still a place we love.
.Lovely video. I left Wallsend 54 years ago at 18. but it will always be home. Went to the grammar school and spent summers in the pak playing tennis - lovely memories
