I have Delonghi la specialista, thank you for information blogger... my sister has breville espresso, I made tons of coffee cups on both of coffee espresso machines and from my experience I prefer delonghi la sp.. way better experience. If you make late, americano or expresso there're no difference between two machines on taste, "same taste". Delonghi la more convenient for daily use.
I was wavering between the two, but kept coming back to the Breville. I am happy to know that I am not wrong in my instinct and will be getting the Breville.
Have to say i completely disagree with this review, i am a complete amateur when it comes to making the perfect espresso, however i have owned both machines and the delonghi is way better imo. The reviewer doesn't touch on any of the key flaws with the barista express (Noisy, failed solenoid, poor temp control, excess water leaking). What's strange is that I work for a fortune 500 company and we have at least 8 of these machines in the 2 office spaces I know of for hundreds of people. And these breville machines just work even though they are constantly abused and not properly run through cleaning cycles. And I've had one throughout covid at home, used 3x a day with only one flow problem that I was able to easily fix. Wow, this is super-helpful and insightful--many thanks! I especially appreciate the detail and description on the differences between (and uses for) pressurized and non-pressurized baskets.
Thanks much, exactly the comparison I was looking for. I watched other videos and they were nowhere near your detail! De'Longhi should pay you for saving them all those returns after people discover they bought pressurized system in disguise.
Amazing. Top notch review / comparison. The fact that Delonghi charges 900 bucks for a pressurized espresso maker is incredible, how can they go so low. They really went all in for the looks and design but zero in term of build, quality and what you get espresso-wise. Delonghi's advertising (like the new vid with Brad Pitt) and overall cheap machines really make me question their brand overall. Have had 2 beans to cup from them since my dad uses those but they both had issues after 2 years after the warranty expired so that's that. Thanks for this great video, definitely siding with Sage / Breville on this one and will probably get it.
Interesting video, but I just bought a La Specialista and the portafilter definitely is a real one with many holes, not just a single hole like you claim! It’s a brilliant machine, really clean with the built-in tamper.
Thank ou so much fo this video it was a deal breaker for me. I was about to buy the Specialista no more now because you showed a detail that made ALL the difference
What this review forgot to mention is that in a domestic use the De Longhi machine offers a 2 year warranty whilst the Breville is only 1 year. My Breville required $611 worth of repairs after just under 2 years old and for that price I was able to buy a brand new De Longhi machine
wish i ave found this video before buying the La Specialista. at 1st you enjoy the coffee, but with time you start to learn and perfect your coffee making skills and you come to the realization that the La Specialista is limiting you and is in a way a "scam". the auto thumping system is very very bad, you cant reach the correct pressure without overfilling your portafilter with coffee grains. anyway, its a fun product BUT, knowing what i know now after having it for 2 years, i should have bought the Barista Express
Honestly id take the Delonghi any day of the week. Understandably the brevlle pulls a slightly better cup of espresso, but the speed and convenience of the Delonghi is just brilliant. It’s not a huge deal breaker. Pulling an espresso shot on the Brevlle takes like 90 seconds total. Where as the Specialista takes like 50-60 seconds. Mostly thanks to the all-in-1 contained grinder into portafilter & built-in tamping. 30seconds Doesn’t sound like much But pulling 4 espresso shots per day, Is 2 minutes extra. Through the year that’s works out to ~12 hours of Me needlessly standing at the machine tamping and waiting on espresso. Not including the extra time though if I’ve got family or friends over and I’m pulling 4-12 shots for that particular night, or the extra time cleaning spilt grinds when self tamping. The brevlle is a superb machine, just not for me. Ended up pickup up the LaSpecialista for 33% off.
Tried the DeLonghi and.. I am not impressed! Don't know if it is anything wrong with the machine I currently have as a loaner (my Crem One is being repaired). The issues I have with this machine; If you are all about the dark roast(easier to extract) then maybe this machine will be for you, but.. I tried medium roast and 18 g coffee inn, the machine set to highest temperature, tamping just once and the machine has a hard time pushing water through the puck. It stops the brewing process due to not being able to handle the pressure. I hit the ok button until it finish the brewing and in fact the coffee then taste good. Brewing time more than a minute and yield 40g.
I really like Italian design... but just the design. Before watching this radio I had decided to buy La Specialist, now I am going to buy the Barista. Really helpful, thanks a lot!
@@kampfpapaja7542 Hard to say. I bought the Breville Barista Express first, it was brand new, but when I started to test the machine I just stuck in the first step, the build in grinder made a loud noise but no coffee powder came out. I disassembled the grinder to check what was going on and reassembled it many times but nothing changed. Then I return this item and bought the Bambino Plus and the Breville smart grinder pro. These two machines work pretty good so far. The price of the espresso machine + grinder was just equal to the Barista but you get a better steam milk system and a better grinder. I think these two machines are good for latte coffee lover like me.
@@brad382 OK i think maybe the Barrista Machines are better in making Espresso shots. But the DeLonghi la Specialista is much more beginner friendly then the Barrista ones. I bought one 2 months ago and after the First 3 shots it worked already good
Hey, thanks for the review it really made me do my homework. I love the self tamping aspect of things so I did some research and the la specialists came out with a new model a few months back - “la specialists prestigio”. It’s a little more $$ but does come with the single wall basket and better grinder. Can I get your thoughts on it? Because truly I like the quietness, ease, and simplicity of the la specialista. The self ramping with no mess and quick start for morning espresso is a dream to me. With that said I do want a quality shot. What’s your thought on the new model? Is it the upgrade this machine needed?
I thought this was a comparison with the Prestigio. This and other reviews had me dismiss the DeLonghi but they may also have reviewed an old model. Back to the drawing board…
The changes made to the prestigio will still not address the critical complaints found in this comparison. Those being the low-adjustment grinder, and build quality That being said, I am considering doing some more videos in Delonghi
@@LifestyleLab_ delonghi just released a new la specialista model called "Arty" in New Zealand and Australia and the price is very attractive hope can your review on that model soon.
Love your videos. I was considering upgrading my breville barista express to this one but no way now. I love my breville. Old school but extracts best shots.
I have a barista express, and had the opportunity to use the delonghi. First thing, trying to dial in the grind. Even fully fine, it was not fine enough. The breville allows the grinding mechanism to be easily taken apart and adjusted. The delonghi looks similar but cannot be adjusted. The pressure gauge on the delonghi doesn't correspond to reality. It seems to go to the same pressure every time, whereas the breville changes pressure with differences in grind or tamping. You made the right choice.
Dodged a bullet here. Bought the Delonghi today because it was on special, machine didn't work out of the box. Took it back to store and exchanged for the Breville.
I am very confused... I went into the store to check the DeLonghi and it has metal knobs and buttons, metal/alum frame. The machine is very well built... Is there a cheap plastic version of this machine as well?
DeLonghi needs to include a non pressurized basket as well and though they seem to be available 3rd party for 10 bucks. Would like to see a guts comparison of the 2 grinders as well as the internals of both. I owned a Breville but returned it mainly due to grinder quality. Didn't need all the bells or whistles either since I acquired genuine barista skills on traditional machines (home, prosumer, commercial)
Is there a difference in terms of performance between Breville Barista Express Black, the Stainless and the Red? I find that the Black version is a bit cheaper.
I dont understand why nobody make a video breville oracle vs Delonghi la specialista!? It would be more comparing the same machine ( but not really because the oracle is way better..) with same features by différents brand... I search on UA-cam i dont find anything.. too bad !
It looks like DeLongui built this machine to seem similar to the Oracle with a type of automated tamping and milk heating. I've owned an Oracle for 5 months and while it isn't perfect it's significantly better than this machine. So making a video on both wouldn't really be worth it. The Delongui is really an automatic machine pretending to be an Espresso machine. There's nothing wrong with that if they're being honest about it, but trying to hide the pressurised basket and such a high price tag is conning people.
There is simply no comparison. The Oracle is a boarder line professional grade machine that can compete with higher end machines, whereas this looks the part but is really a repackaged version of an entry level pressurized machine and grinder. Thankfully, this machine has now been discontinued, and replaced with the Presitgio, which has upgraded some features from the original to better compete with other bean to cup machines…but to be honest, it still has a way to go to match Breville quality.
Let’s face it the laspecialista is the winner hands down in the work place with a small number of staff. Simple to use, much much cleaner tamper system , much much quicker too. It looks great and far from cheap looking. After a week of using the breville, you waste so much coffee at the grinding side you almost need to create a daily roster for someone to clean the coffee mess at the end of each day. Still, the Breville is a great machine if you like to clean it after every cup of coffee. If you don’t mind this; we’ll, no drama.
I would agree that the Delonghi would be better for a small workplace IF it had the build quality to match the looks... pressurized systems will always be more "user friendly". In this price range, and quality of espresso, I would suggest going with a superautomatic if a workplace coffee station is what you're going for, with people who are inexperienced with espresso. In terms of the huge mess you're describing, a dosing cup or dosing full (as you'd use with any other espresso grinder) will solve that problem instantly.
I had two Barista machines and both were working for only two years. the first one stopped bouling water, the second got problem with pressure indicator. (stopped showing a pressure). I am not gonna use Brevel brand any more due to VERY LOW reliability. P.S. could some one just advise some good quality esspressso machine?
Based on how this comparison went, I'm not sure we will. The Maestro doesn't really appear to improve in any of the areas we take main objection to in the base La Specialista
I’m debating on going with a Breville Barista Express or De’Longhi Specialist Marstro…. I was leaning towards the Breville however I’m concern with the the espresso shots not being hot enough. I personally only know one person who owns a Breville Barista Pro and they’ve said the same thing. What is your opinion?
Any issue with heat on the Barista Pro come down to people not heating the portafilter properly before pulling their shot. The Barista Pro is a FAR more capable and well built machine, for less money
I would like to see your opinion on the other delonghi machines mine looks that that but no automatic tamp, weird wand attachment and the ports filter isn’t pressurised
@@rmadrid14ucl13 So you think you can taste the difference between a 15 bar extraction and a 19 bar extraction? LOL I'll tell you what you CAN taste the difference between; a true single wall traditional filter basket, and the fake "pressurized" ones Delonghi uses. You may have forgotten that part ;) OH and the fact that you can adjust the extraction temperature on the Breville, which is very important... OH and the grinder actually has enough grind steps to dial in espresso, not FIVE like on the Specialista... OH and its not built like a toy... But in one way you're correct. The people who read the boxes and decide to get one over the other because it says "19 bar cafe quality" are absolutely Delonghi's target market 🤣
Not all superauto machines are pressurised, usually, the cheapest ones are, on which you can't set the grind fineness. Typically machines with 5 or more grind settings will have non pressurised brew groups. My Jura has a non pressurised group. Really only the mega-cheap chinese machines, or the lower end machines. But despite it having normal screen, it's sorta like a pressurised, because of the thin tubing after the brew group. I found that to build up much pressure. Superauto groups make a nice espresso, that's better than the pressurised basket, but a bit worse, than the non pressurised. It has less body compared to the normal basket, but still does not include that bit of harshness, that I can taste from a pressurised semi auto.
Beeville so much better, the flavor is so good from this expresso machine, make sure you get the grind size and amount in the correct pressure gauge and your set and forget ! best extraction !!
Can you do a review of the La specialista maestro? I think that one uses non-pressurized baskets. I am wondering if I should get the la specialista maestro or save up to get the oracle touch.
Both of them have trash grinders, horrible reliability, and are super expensive to repair. Eureka Oro Mignon XL + Profitec Pro 300 = lower price for both >>> Oracle Touch.
I'd prefer stamping myself, as I want to distribute the coffee a little before stamping, and I also enjoy the process. Any clue why these machines don't have 58mm commercial portafilter? P.s. to what espresso machine would you upgrade from Barista Express? I was thinking about the Breville dual boiler (seems to be missing in UK under the name Sage) or the Rancilio Silvia Pro.
These machines don't have 58mm commercial portafilters because they aren't commercial machines. A narrower, deeper portafilter is less prone to channeling and therefore easier for beginners to get a decent shot with little experience, and generally lower quality grinders. You need very good distribution and grind particle consistency to use larger shallower portafilters In terms of upgrading, look at upgrading your grinder first! Its the best way to get better quality. Then once your budget allows, move up to a prosumer machine like the Silva or the Rocket Appartamento
You cannot brew and steam SIMULTANEOUSLY (at the exact same time). The La Specialista is faster to transition, as shown, but it is not a true dual boiler.
@@LifestyleLab_ “La Specialista's dual heating system allows you to brew espresso and steam milk simultaneously. This minimizes the change of coffee taste due to temperature drop as you wait for your milk to be frothed. Which means you can consume your espresso at the ideal temperature.”
@@LifestyleLab_ “La Specialista is equipped with two independent heating systems. One thermoblock for extracting coffee and an independent heating system for steaming milk or frothing ensures immediate beverage preparation.”
The tamp on the breville is dreadful and doesn't fit the basket properly, about a 4mm gap. The steam function on both machines is inferior to the sage bambino plus which will make perfect latte milk without any input from the user. For the price they both should be better
Honestly, just buy the Breville. You will end up returning the Delonghi after realising it's cheap feel and the lower quality espresso it produces, not to mention the horrendously bad milk it produces as if I microwaved a mug of milk. Trust me, just buy the damn Breville the first time. Thank me later.
You are obviously payed by Brevelle. I produce creamy coffee every day. What is true is that to get the cream I need to brew at the beginning of the black mark in the dial
Hola que tal, me podrías dar tu opinión o hacer una comparativa entre este mismo modelo de breville pero ahora contra la Specialista Maestra La Specialista Maestra vs Breville barista express BES870XL
This is like watching a brain surgeon explain the intricacies and complexities of achieving the quintessential; "perfect shot to the brain," while pumping up our adrenaline levels and thus, exciting our brain cells, which tells our hormone control centre the pituitary gland that there's an emergency!!! The pituitary tells the adrenal glands (located above the kidneys) to flood the body with adrenaline, which also produces increased energy and stamina, along with mental clarity and that "wonderful euphoric sensation!" This gentleman in my humble view, is the real "La Specialista!"

Take a look at Gaggia and Rancilio, we recently reviewed both!
Can’t find it on Amazon. Maybe somewhere else it is possible to buy it?
What country are you shopping from?
@@LifestyleLab_ Europe
@@LifestyleLab_ can find just Sage. It looks the same
Yes, Sage and Breville are the same brand for different markets.
The only video youll need to watch to make your decision!!
Which are the unpressurised portafilters available on Amazon that will fit the La Specialista? The portafilters for the Dedica fit?
This is why I sell 50 breville to 1 delonghi
Good comparison, comfortable win by Breville! Will you be reviewing the new la specialista maestro at any stage?
Based on how this comparison went, I'm not sure we will. The Maestro doesn't really appear to improve in any of the areas we take main objection to in the base La Specialista
Can the grinder on the la specialista be modified? I have a strong feeling that it can be done however it is good to see if it has been done.
Very informative video! Thanks
It was exactly my expectation before I even see your comparison.. Excellent comparison 👌 thanks a lot
Excellent!
@@LifestyleLab_ Thank you!
Good idea with bad execution by Delongi
Agreed! It looks so promising on paper...
Is barista express a good option for opening a cafe?
No, not at all. These are not commercial machines
Hello! Is this the salted liquorice colour?
Great video fun and informative, thank you
The new 2021 machines portafilter is same like Breville, there is no single hole. Yes, the dia is still smaller than Breville.
Yes, we have an whole separate video on the Prestigio
I would like to see your opinion on the other delonghi machines mine looks that that but no automatic tamp, weird wand attachment and the ports filter isn’t pressurised
I just did a comparison with the Delonghi Dedica :)
I like the tamping level on the specialists but that's about it
Heating temp is important dude, 19 bar!! On la specialista.. breville only 15 . Thats what they mean by cafe quality
@@rmadrid14ucl13 So you think you can taste the difference between a 15 bar extraction and a 19 bar extraction? LOL
I'll tell you what you CAN taste the difference between; a true single wall traditional filter basket, and the fake "pressurized" ones Delonghi uses. You may have forgotten that part ;)
OH and the fact that you can adjust the extraction temperature on the Breville, which is very important...
@@rmadrid14ucl13 19 bar is about 10 bar too high to be 'cafe quality', unless the 15,000$ synesso I use at work isnt up to your standards.
If only I saw this before I got my la specialista!
the translation of this video to other languages is super necessary
please allow it on the video
thank you and sorry for my limited English
Beeville so much better, the flavor is so good from this expresso machine, make sure you get the grind size and amount in the correct pressure gauge and your set and forget ! best extraction !!
i don't know i just love delonghi, it's easy for home use, no tamper needed
Can you do a review of the La specialista maestro? I think that one uses non-pressurized baskets. I am wondering if I should get the la specialista maestro or save up to get the oracle touch.
Save up to get the Oracle. The Maestro is not any major improvement on the La Specialista, and we saw how that review went...
@@LifestyleLab_ thank you
Both of them have trash grinders, horrible reliability, and are super expensive to repair. Eureka Oro Mignon XL + Profitec Pro 300 = lower price for both >>> Oracle Touch.
Thanks for the kick a** WARNING on La Specilista incompetency. Been sharing it everywhere on YT as AWARNESS Shame on them!
Someone reviewing coffee machines that actually seems to understand coffee. Can't believe it.
What is the construction/ metal of the 2 portafilters?
Metal baskets, hard plastic handles, although as mentioned the handle on the Breville feels significantly higher quality.
@@LifestyleLab_ Baskets; Stainless steel, Aluminum, or chrome plated brass?
Stainless steel
Tell us your opinion about the BEEM espresso grind profession I believe is the evolution of the Breville Barista Express 870
You need very good distribution and grind particle consistency to use larger shallower portafilters
In terms of upgrading, look at upgrading your grinder first! Its the best way to get better quality. Then once your budget allows, move up to a prosumer machine like the Silva or the Rocket Appartamento
Yeah, clear winner here. And for less $$$
I think the La Specialista is well thought out! It's just competing in the wrong price bracket...
Great video Thank you. 🙏🙏👍👍
Which would you go with, the barista express or pro?
Boy do I have a video for you!
ua-cam.com/video/IOSwiiXXZUA/v-deo.html
@@LifestyleLab_ Perfect!
The Express. The pressure gauge is really handy, and I also prefer how the hot water spout is placed away from the group head.
I think the Pro will be less durable with that electronics and kcd display in hot/humid/wet environment.
Wrong information. You can brew and steam on the delonghi! It has 2 different heating cores. I have it and it works :) ...
Not sure who you're quoting, but again, that's not correct.
@@LifestyleLab_ “La Specialista is equipped with two independent heating systems. One thermoblock for extracting coffee and an independent heating system for steaming milk or frothing ensures immediate beverage preparation.”
@@LifestyleLab_ literally quoting delonghi and other reviewers :/
Would you know of a product that has the pros from the barista and also the pros from the La Specialista then? around the same price range?
In this price range and form factor, the Barista Pro by Breville is the most solid offering at the moment
@@LifestyleLab_ Thanks
Gonna buy the express now thank you !! 😌
The tamp on the breville is dreadful and doesn't fit the basket properly, about a 4mm gap. The steam function on both machines is inferior to the sage bambino plus which will make perfect latte milk without any input from the user. For the price they both should be better
Subscribed!!
What about the De'Longhi La Specialista Maestro Espresso Machine?
Extremely overpriced for what it offers. I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you have that kind of budget
I think all new la specialistas now uses non-pressurized baskets.
Yes, but they didn’t fix the grinder… which is almost worse. I have another video on that machine, the La Specialista Prestigio vs Barista Pro
Please make a review about the new la specialista maestro
You are obviously payed by Brevelle. I produce creamy coffee every day. What is true is that to get the cream I need to brew at the beginning of the black mark in the dial
Nope.
Hola que tal, me podrías dar tu opinión o hacer una comparativa entre este mismo modelo de breville pero ahora contra la Specialista Maestra
La Specialista Maestra vs Breville barista express BES870XL
This is like watching a brain surgeon explain the intricacies and complexities of achieving the quintessential; "perfect shot to the brain," while pumping up our adrenaline levels and thus, exciting our brain cells, which tells our hormone control centre the pituitary gland that there's an emergency!!! The pituitary tells the adrenal glands (located above the kidneys) to flood the body with adrenaline, which also produces increased energy and stamina, along with mental clarity and that "wonderful euphoric sensation!" This gentleman in my humble view, is the real "La Specialista!"
Me watching what i want but cant afford
Is it just me or is it weird that we can’t see his head.
Good thing I've since found it
