  • We are always told that good chess players have excellent memory. What about World Champions then? Well, we decided to test one of the absolute legends of chess - Garry Kasparov with 10 chess positions. These were games taken from famous encounters and some were also from Garry's own games.

    I am so thankful Garry said that at 1:37. This concept applies to all situations in life. Moving from difficult to easy tasks unleashes relief which weakens your concentration.

    This are all super classics. I have never studied Kasparov's games but I got the rest pretty easily (date and tournament as well) . They should have tried some more challenging from the 40's and 50's.

      For any professional chess players or just someone who enjoys chess and reading it's literature, the reaction would be the same. Garry has the aura and the accomplishments to back it up. He was the first one to prioritise preparation at the top level and later backed it up with engines. He was also the prime moving force for the creation of a game database open to public (more professionals) and that is how Chessbase was born in Germany.

      He basically "Redefined" the era, thus "inventing" a whole different brand of play style which defined the style of play for that and future generations.

    They selected very famous games. If you love chess you know them, so no need to have memory... I mean, very important beautiful legendary games... So the impressive thing it s not Kasparov knowing these (obviously) BUT Sagar being surprised (being an IM... and these games being so famous).

      Chess is so second nature to top gms they are as fluent as if they were speaking their native language. It also probably helps that they have analyzed those games and been to the events and seen the games live themselves.

      Deep Blue is considered very weak nowadays. I'm not saying it wasn't an impressive achievement, it's just that there's no way a human is beating stockfish14 or Leela nowadays

    This is the Passion of foreign players be it any game.And here it is were we lack very badly . Just a little bit of publicity and money starts to comfort our players .Then that's the end of our Indian players performance.Only one gold only one championship title . All our Indian players want is only one time that's it. Then slowly and steadily the hunger dies to play for country.Then it's only the money that is on top priority.

    I have seen some puzzles in which the paw gets promoted to knight. Very strange and unusual. Garry has solved these puzzles. It appears these things are jokes for him.

      According to a recent obituary of Kasparov's mother, Kasparov's parents discovered his talent in 1968 when they were pondering a chess puzzle published in the local newspaper and the five-year-old Garry came over and solved it.
