That was great how anish described how social media shapes you . Online persona is completely different from offline. Noone talks like that in real life or make allegations on your face. People have become very comfortable with all the trolling and stuff on social media

One has to develop a thick skin cause social media is a massive platform that allows people to put across their views (howsoever unnecessary, brutal and crass the views maybe!). Its like when you have sign up for any social media and you are a public figure you are basically inviting others to judge you for everything you do and you don't do! Trolling is a given...

Watched the whole ama. But the most amazing thing that strikes me is Sagar managing to walk backwards for 35 minutes straight. The things he does for chess. Only bcoz of him we can somewhat see the world rapid and blitz otherwise fide won't do that. He should get the creator of the year award. Hats off to you sagar bhai.

The Anish Vidit bromance is really heartwarming. These two are genuine friends on a high level. The chess community is unique in that such stuff becomes visible. That's Sagar's merit also to some extent. But probaly also due to the fact that really smart people come together in the chess world.
Let's hope Anish' critical remarks on Social Media were spontaneous and not prearranged just to promote Wildr. It's deep stuff and I doubt solutions will come from more algorithms. It's not enough to say "toxicity no!". You have to be totally transparent on how that lofty goal is to be achieved. What are the algorithms, who controls them.

I learned chess in january 2023 and today december 2023 ,i am 1550 rapid and 1300 in blitz.all this is achieved by learning only 2 openings.i have no intentions of playing at higher level and engage myself more in chess by practicing and learning theory.all the chess i know comes very natural to my style. I know , i can only reach maximum 1800 without applying myself but still i will be better than 95 % players. So i would say ,people should play to improve and most importantly to enjoy.

I am at the first question now, and both are right... and in a way they are both wrong... life is not about being the greatest or even great, nor it's about being happy... life is about experiencing. Of course we all want to experience great things and happiness, but we would not even know what that means if we didn't also experience the opposite side. In short, life is about relativity, embrace it, and enjoy it ;)

Excellent interview format. I very much like Vidit Gujrathi's concentrated, mature and self-reflected responses. When this guy speaks, I listen because I feel he has a message. In contrast, Anish Giri was speaking a lot of words, with very few substance in the end. In particular, I was disappointed with Giri's statements wrt work-life balance and keeping self-reflected about life with its many options. Also, Giri clearly lost trail with his lengthy "filibuster" on social media, until he was reminded by Gujrathi what the question was about (the "Kramnik case").

i think Anish decided to do both things at the same time Family and Top Level Chess.. Vidit on the other hand is betting all on Chess.. and will probably try the family thing later in life.
I would say that the best way is Vidit's because you can go 100% ALL IN on chess, lets say realistically up until 35-37 (if you are not champion by 35 , chances are you will never be right) then semiretire and go and get married, have kids, you still young.
