What's fascinating is that so many do not know the reasoning behind the video: It was Nick Cave being ironic. He personally doesn't like the video, the producers and MTV peeps kept telling him to make something more "mainstream" when he asked what that consisted of, they said it was highly sexualised women shaking their bums. So he went with that, as a not so tongue in cheeck "FU" to the mainstream.
Haha maybe. I love this video though. I love how the dancers actually make it work. In the end, I find it quite an iconic piece. Whether intended or not.
Uhm, I remember a period interview (from “Careless Talk…” perhaps?) where Nick was even more precise. Apparently, he talked to the MTV honchos, asking why they wouldn’t play his videos, and they said ‘Because they’re not commercial enough.’ (Quoting from memory here, mind you.) ‘And what would be commercial enough?’ ‘Half-naked Black female dancers.’ ‘So that’s what we did,’ said Nick, and you gotta applaud the guy for ‘bringing on’ both his old two-hit hero (pun intended), EN’s Blixa and a bevy of hot ebony chicks to the video shoot, ha ha!
Yeah, also, on the Making Of DVD I've got with the Abbatoir Blues Deluxe box you can see they had to play reaggeton for the dancers to shake it. It's actually reaggeton they dance to in every scene HAHAHAHA
Its not just Nick Cave, its Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds... these guys have been around since the 80's (1984 from memory) ... These guys are total Aussie Legends
This is HYSTERICAL. They wanted a video? They wanted commercial? What's popular in videos these days? Well, ASSES WIGGLING. So there you have it. Nick Cave is a genius.
This is best song ever, fucking awesome, please Nick write more like this please!!! True masterpiece, just as brilliant now 2015 as it was when I heard it when it come out years ago!!!
Nick's toured the US quite extensively, so I sincerely doubt that. The video is a pretty clear parody of modern music videos in general, not just in the States.
the lyrics are fkn amazing. i luvluvluvluv this song...i have listened to this song in my dark times so many times and it gives me a sense of control for even just a short while...its not just a brillant song...its a love affair...so many of nick's songs are.
loved peaky blinders tv show .. watches whole 2 seasons in 2 days lol ... cant wait for 3rd season .. this song is awesome came here the first time i heard it in peaky blinders
The way I understand it is, when planning their video for "Bring it on," Nick cave asked the director, "So what do people usually put in their music videos these days?" To which the director replied, simply, "Scantily clad women shaking their butts." "I want that in my next video." The result is this truly brilliant piece of work you see before you.
This actually the best ever made parody of what MTV has become in a decade or so: the lousiest 24/7 soft-core porn TV channel in the world yet disguised as a "music" channel. This is indeed a very interesting video.
MAN THIS IS HUGE!!! This is ART! His insane! His a god or something! It makes me wana shout! This is a kind of overfilling blues is you know what I mean! Makes me wana explode!
Probably one of the only Aussie musicians who could claim to have influenced Nick Cave (and not the other way round) Chris Bailey who with Ed Keupper was in the 1st punk group to chart in the UK (Saints ''I'm Stranded'')..the other would be Radio Birdman who I saw 2 yrs ago here in NZ and were fughing amazing! Good to see the great man acknowledging the pioneers of Antipodean punk
This video is excellent. It is haunting, powerful, the women are beautiful and it is brilliant. I don't know if it was intended irony or what, but passion and pain, humor and vulnerability, and sexual power all here. I love you Nick Cave.
@cinephilefromhell Totally agree. I actually stood next to Hugo Weaving at a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds concert in January 09. He knew all the words and danced like an awesome dork. Very surreal
well I've just walked out of a cave after all these years of not hearing anything about Nick Cave here and this song "bring it on" This guys voice is so fucking commanding and strong. Love it .
Another wonderful song by Nick Cave with a stange satirical video. Most of his videos seem to be just something to go goofing off on as in the weeping song etc.
Peaky Blinders brought me here and I'm so glad it did. Great song.
Paul S
me too😋
how many cave songs does this show use?
Same here right this very night, what a fucking great show and song.

So Nick caved?
