      Thanks I've been enjoying playing with this mushroom for a long time and wanted to share it with you all... I find the mushroom material fascinating you can collect or maybe grow material instead of using animal hides... I believe if we eat animals we should use all parts but why not grow some material instead of animals we need to think more this way in the future maybe getting rid of plastics

      Ya we were thinking that too but wanted to try it out I'm surprised it smoldered that long without me blowing on it... I bet the smoke would also keep bugs away naturally too cuz it was like a sage smoke nice but strong after a bit... I think there is more medical research done on this mushroom too but I'm not up to date on it... Wanted to start off with some fun lol... Thanks so much for your support

      Yes it is pretty durable for a mushroom but they do last on trees for several years... I was just chatting with Walt Reven Jr and I wanted to do another video showing how to prepare this mushroom... And more on it being good tinder

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft do you remember the process you used... I made it 2 b4 it was OK but you need practice to do it well... I remember taking the shell off with a sharp knife... You need to use a fresh mushroom for it to come off the best... Then the pores I believe.... Finding the inner flesh... Cut it into thick enough slices.... Soak for up to a week I believe in water with wood ash in it... Then pound peices flat without putting a hole in the mushroom which is hard to pound without putting a hole in it

      @@wildedibles819 if I remember rightly I used bicarbonate of soda instead of wood Ash boiled and stood for about a week and beat it with a stick. (might not of been bicarbonate of soda). I have tried charring it with better results.

    Nice way to carry fire, that hat looks super nice, how did they put the pieces of amadui together?

    • @wildedibles819
      @wildedibles819  4 роки тому +1

      It looks like glued... I think it would handle a stitch but I think glue is better sometimes... It does keep you dry absorbing the moisture... I only wore it once In the woods when it was raining and kept me dry... I'm not a hat person more of a hoodie works for my needs... But my purse I use it in the woods all the time cuz it holds the shape well and keeps stuff dry or keeps mushrooms from getting broken
      The purse has a lining and cardboard all glued no stitch... Wore down a bit on the strap but still in good shape over 5 years old and I still use it pretty but functional too and a neat conversation starter as well no one can believe it's from a mushroom

    Isnt there another fungus too that people use besides this one that can be used for fire starting, wait I think its chaga I am thinking of? The trail is so pretty andf them woods with all that snow. Awwww theres my PoPo, abby too right? Was that mr caveman? lol....
    That crack in the tree is very odd!!! I have never seen that before but my guess is from cold also, maybe. Lightning would have burn marks really bad. Darn those hoof fungus are everywhere!! Interesting with the rings and age, does that work with the types of conk I get here and showed before that we took forever on to ID lol?
    Lol bunny from a hat trick!!! Such a cute pretty bunny, did you make that hat? Thats so awesome how it is made from mushroom wow really really cool! I heard you giggle!!! and talk a little yay!!! You should have brought a sled and let PoPo pull ya on it hahaha, he looks so strong Im sure he could. I smiled a lot watching this video, xoxox hugz my friend

    • @wildedibles819
      @wildedibles819  4 роки тому +1

      Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it... Yes chaga I have a video of Mr cave man taking it off the tree in my mush hunt videos... Many conks could carry a coal like artist conk and family... Yes they have age rings if they continue to grow the next season will grow another year of growth... A buddy sent me a hat and purse purchased on line but I have pounded out a material with it but it takes time... I do want to show how there's a process taking off the shell with a sharp knife... Removing pores... Soaking the rubbery flesh in ash water then pounding it out flat without putting a hole in it... This hat has lots of material they have used another process to put it together or used a huge mushroom so don't know for certain
      Yes I hear birch around here growing in wet areas have too much sap or something and will freze and crack as they expand and shrink again it would be a way for spores to get in the trees too
      Another use is to use the material to dry flys for fishing...
      Is the editing better this way lol I'm glad you enjoyed hearing me play with PoPo lol and Abby too

    • @WaltRevenJr
      @WaltRevenJr 4 роки тому +1

      @@wildedibles819 Awesome info with the rings, I know with trees that are cut you can do that too...did not know on the mushrooms though that is awesome! You are getting better with the editing for sure! I really enjoyed that moment with popo pulling you and the giggling, it was so cute to hear and see!!

      @@WaltRevenJr lol it was fun going down the hill I will do it again b4 winter is out its getting more icy and hard easier to go down the hill... I don't have sleds anymore lol but I will bring a good old plastic bag with me that will work my old coat was leather and worked very well to slide on but weighed a ton lol
      Every year some mushrooms just grow a new outer layer and get bigger artist conk are a good example but there's other perennial mushrooms like plants that keep growing too... Reshi here dies and grows a new one... Turkey tail will die and grow a new set of fans etc... Many months that's all we see is conks so I get to know a bit about them and where they grow

    • @WaltRevenJr
      @WaltRevenJr 4 роки тому +1

      Lol that was fun watching ole popo pull ya, I remember when we were kids and didnt have much money we would use plastic trashcan lids or them old round metal trashcan lids LOL. Whatever worked ya know. I was going to ask if turkey tail did that too, I so want to make some more tea from turkey tail its so tasty but I have not seen any fresh ones in forever :( . Ok my friend I got lots of work to do, I will be back a bit later. Loved that video though :)

      @@WaltRevenJr Turkey tail will spread around so it might be in area or the same log... I just remembered I have a circle sled like that I think I put it away in case I needed it to pull something or whatever it was really cheap and ya we used all sorts of stuff to slide on lol it's fun our kids are big we haven't done it in years... My old dog I would have her loose but she'd run down and tried to pull you off saving you from the sled lol... It's the only time she ever bit me nipping at my coat in a herd dog way lol she was funny trying to get us off the sled
      I Gota get buzy again but I'm dragging my ass today
