    I live in Denton, TX. Just found some Reishi's (Lingzhi, Ganoderma lingzhi) growing under my Shumard Red Oak tree in the back yard. They were quite tough, so, I made several batches of Reishi tea (for me), then made a syrup supplement using the tea, old honey (turned to sugar) and cane sugar to feed some wild bees that visit my patio garden. They LOVED it! I'm a 4 time cancer survivor (2 lung and 2 breast) and plan to keep treating myself to mushrooms.

    I recently joined and then left a few mushroom and plant identification fora on social media. In short, I found the level of ego and unwillingness to engage with novices very distasteful. I've experienced a fair deal of this behavior among people interested in the natural world - they hoard their knowledge and develop a competitive, misanthropic attitude. Above all, I appreciate your focus on sharing your knowledge freely - your expertise speaks for itself, but you are taking time to educate and inform the public in a way that's fun, interesting and inspiring. • @kiowhatta1
    @kiowhatta1 2 роки тому

    Wood chips are normally not a good choice of mulch - they don’t break down well, draw moisture out of the soil, and also cause ‘nitrogen drawdown’.
    I use a combination of newspaper (about 4 sheets thick), on top of cow manure and seaweed solution ( seasol encourages microbial activity), with either sugar cane or lucerne mulch ( 10cm thick ).
    Your topsoil will be protected, the newspaper will break down and release carbon into the soil, whilst the cow manure/seasol mix encourages earthworms and other microorganisms.
    This combination is also great for promoting mycelial growth-although it’s true that mycelium does like things like cardboard, wood chips and anything that retains moisture and heat.
    I’m a horticulturalist just getting into mycology and I want to thank you for providing me with great advice as well as showing how fungi and mycelium has so many real world applications.
    Please keep educating those in power.

      @Mel Hawk No Mel I don't know. But it was a combination of several fungus .It was in Washington State and I think that you might be able to find the information from Paul Stamets .This was done years ago and I believe that he would have the information on it.
      The mushrooms were made into balls and spread out on the ground and the weather had a reaction to release the spores and they transformed the pollution into a element that was non toxic and harmless. It took a while to break down the chemicals and the minerals that were there. I don't know the exact details.
