    Hello there, I've owned the D-Lux type 109 for 6 years and the D-Lux 7 for 6 years and bought the D-Lux 8 a few months ago and I've never experienced any of the problems that you mentioned. I treat them as compact camera's and accept them as just that. I don't think of these cameras as serious tools, just fun to have with me when out and about hiking and walking.... thanks for the video

      @@alanjones8579 I do own a lot of point and shooters, so I am not a novice, that said maybe I have a bad copy. Sadly it is not the image quality or the build quality being the issue, it is really the bugs in areas that I have not experienced before.

      For the amount of money Leica demands for a new-skin 8, I expected more. I agree with everything said in this video. The zoom is also ridiculously slow.

      I was thinking the same things you said. I have a few of the older D Lux cameras, as well as the 7. I also have the Type 109. I have never experienced any of these issues, ever. I have never taken my battery out for any reason. I also never tried to wake the camera up for it to fail. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of my cameras. I have not bought the 8 yet, but I’m planning to, but I may wait for the next sensor to be released or I may buy the Q3. I keep my D Lux 7 on me daily, and it has given me countless moments of peace, joy and created beautiful art in the process.

      So you can set your D-LUX 8 in the custom menu so when you turn it on, the zoom goes to whatever focal length you set it on? My old Ricoh GX200 had this function and it was really useful.

      Any camera that has a pro lens, and at least 16mp... is absolutely a Pro-Camera in the hands of a Pro-fessional Photographer.. However if you equate "it has to have more MP to be a pro" ,.. then of course you are a Camera NOOB... self defined.

    If you turn it off, it's the Bluetooth or the camera is still writing to the card. Thats the thing with the buffer, what you expirienced while shooting, the buffer is really small.
    Like you said, most of the points could be corrected via firmware, I don't get it why they not correct some of the issues. They're easy to fix and would make this camera even better to sell. I don't have the issue with the WB. I think it is very accurate most of the times and is able to pick the right Kelvin even in more complex situations, where I see others struggle.
    The camera itself is more a bunch of quirks as it is a perfect camera but I have to say that I love to use it as my second camera to the A1 at events etc. It might not be super fast with the zoom, but when I think about what it is, I'm ok with it. Some argue the price is to high but this thing fits a purpose. The package is small, you get a very bright lens that you don't get for normal mFT cameras and you get something that is really stands out and that is the EVF. For this size of camera, it's the best evf I ever have seen.
    In the end I understand if someone says no, thats to much quirks but I don't think I would like to give up on this little camera.

    I've been using a Fujifilm X-M1 for a while, looking for a change, and always liked the look of the LX100 so nearly bought the D-Lux 8. But at £1500 I couldn't justify the price. I bought a used Fujifilm X30, for a third of the price, instead and love it! Startup in a couple seconds, EVF, tilt screen, manual zoom with OIS, mic port! Yes the sensor is smaller but really for posting online it's enough and the picture quality is what you expect of Fuji. btw. I fell for the Lumix S9 marketing and ended up returning that so I know how you feel, buyers remorse.

    I had a D-LUX 8 too, but just for less than two months. Then I returned it to the dealer, because of some of the issues, you mentioned. I got full refund, no trouble here and bought in November a brand new SL2s for just under €2,800 or 21,000 DKK. Best buy ever and a superb supplement to my M240 and M240P. Thanks for sharing and keep on rolling!

    You’ve just described all the annoying little things about my D-Lyx 7, Paul! I’m glad someone else complains about the slowww zoom lens, and the other seemingly minor, yet annoying idiosyncrasies of what could have been fabulous cameras to compete with the Fuji 100x series. When I originally saw the D-Lux 8 specs earlier this year I was astonished that Leica put out an old camera that had a new skin and was just named the 8. Pure laziness, Leica! I kept my DL7 and bought the Fuji X-T50 that I love. Great video. Thank you.

    I agree on the price. But then again prices of camera’s and prices in general went crazy the last two - three years. I have had the X100V for about 4 years and I still own the GR3. I think the D-Lux 8 is a great every day camera. It has its issues, the bluetooth setting solves the biggest ones, but I enjoy the simplicity of the camera, the great lens, the zoom possibility. It has a flexibility that the X100V and GR3 miss for my needs even if those two produce better quality images. I find the user experience of the d-lux8 better and the joy of using a camera is probably the most important thing. This can change in the future since our interests evolve. For now I am enjoying it! I hope they will make the camera even better with future firmware upgrades. We will have to see. Thanks for the review!

    If the issues you had are genuine problems with the camera and not just really not knowing fully how to use the camera, then that's not good. But I get the feeling you're not yet ready for a Leica. You don't buy a Leica because you want Nikon or Canon speed, you buy a Leica because you want to get back to the roots of what photography is. There is no hurry, you already know how to read the light and the shadows, you already know the color temperature of the scene you're looking at.
    I shoot motorsport with Nikon cameras and super-fast lenses, but nothing gives me greater joy than picking up my Leica mono chrome and wandering around the streets, happy in the knowledge that I don't need it to think for me. It doesn't have to be perfect; it just has to be good enough. I have been photographing for a long time, and I love the Leica for the memory's it evokes when I could just look at a scene and know in my mind what the iso shutter speed and aperture should be, I know the high key and low-key points in the scene. I don't want to edit, because for me, that's then not the scene I was looking at, Thats the purist form of photography. And my Leica never fails to take me on that journey.

    • @PaulTakesPhotos
      @PaulTakesPhotos  День тому +1

      Hi Clint, thank you for sharing your experience. I am not a novice to Leica far from it. The DLux 8 is by far the biggest disappointment i have had with any camera from whatever brand over the last 10 years. More worryingly the M11, Q3 and Q3-43 seem to suffer from similar bugs (freezing, suddenly switching off etc) so when I look at it something is off there.
      That aside the DLux 8, except for its menu system isn't an upgrade from the DLux 7 or Lumix LX100-II. In my experience a very negative experience. If I compare it with my Q or CL, the shooting experience on those two cameras is actually fantastic.

    Respectfully, I have multiple Leica cameras, and I have never once had to take my battery out to restart a camera for any reason period. I have also never had an issue with a single camera waking up from sleep mode. I respect your experiences, I’ve just never had any of them and I shoot with a Leica daily.
    I own about a dozen cameras that I would use to produce more serious photos, but they are bigger and heavier, so I would never keep them on me daily. I have smaller mirrorless Canon cameras, and they are not nearly as portable as the Leica D Lux series. I believe the issue is having unrealistic expectations for the cameras you own, regardless of which camera it is.
    My smaller Leicas have been extremely impactful for me because they help me slow down to find the beauty in the everyday world around me. Since I have a camera on me daily, which has fully manual features that make photography much more rewarding than taking a picture with a phone, I want to spend more time taking photos. As a result, I pace myself, and I’m more intentional about capturing the beauty in the world every single day. I run a national business, which has its weight to it. The cameras have been a blessing and removed a lot of that weight, while also helping me create lifelong memories in the most beautiful way possible.

    • @PaulTakesPhotos
      @PaulTakesPhotos  28 днів тому

      The Dlux 8 out of all the Leicas I own (x2, CL Digital, TL, Q and M240) was the biggest disappointment as the issues it has, should and can easily be fixed. Leica chose not to.
      I enjoy Leica cameras, the DLux 8 simply isn't up to the standard. Which seems a broader issue. The M11 suffers from jitters with quite a few users, so does the Q3 and Q3-43. Problem is that it is inconsistent. Which indicates other issues within Leica manufacturing

      Could well be the case but it really threw me off this model. And still feel Leica hasnt done much to take care of the issues I faced, which are 100% firmware fixable. I own the Canon G5X MKII but it's hard to compare to the D-Lux 8. The one thing that triggers me every time I use it is it's af. The AF of the D-Lux might not be the fastest, but the one from the Canon is the worst expirience since my 5D MKI. There are so many situations where it predicts to have focused but it doesn't. The D-Lux misses often foreground to background but the Canon is going to nowhere. With the Leica you really fast learn why something is happening, the Canon is totally unpredictable. I lost a lot of shot because of this. It's very pron to collect dust in the lens and also to the sensor.

      Really 1560? A while back I saw it at that same mpb.com for nearly 3k.
      In all honesty my Lumix GX80 does was better than the dlux 8

      As a long time Leica user of more than 25 years, the moment I read the specs of this camera, I knew it was just an exercise in cashing in the very sudden popularity of the Leica cameras. It has nothing to offer that a proper MFT camera of 2015 couldn't do better., and at a fraction of the price. BTW, all those who sing the praises of Fuji this and Fuji that, had better just grab an Olympus EM5 MKII or MK III and realise how archaic their beloved X100s are, and they are cheaper with the ability to change lenses. BTW, I really hate the look of that zoom lens on this camera when extended.

      @@PaulTakesPhotos check it out, price has fallen down to the price of what was a new x100v, two weeks ago the price was £1890. GX80 is a great camera.
