Yes @leo cos if she goes to her local independent coffee shop 1) she’ll dox herself, 2) she’ll have people complaining they don’t have that in their area and 3) she won’t be making the lovely relatable content we love her for! I am not a fan of these chains either but she didn’t say we have to go there. Peace.
I'm like Grace in that I have a weird bias against Costa, I just don't like it/get it (especially their stupid large mugs that have two handles. I never thought a mug could upset me & leave me traumatised until I had my first coffee at Costa 😂). Everyone I know likes Costa but I always prefer Starbucks or Coffee#1 as they do single origin world coffees (which is exceptionally rare where I live).
Girl you’ve clearly got something against Costa because it totally should’ve won this😂 You loved the hot choc and brownie in the beginning, then by the end was telling it to pull its socks up!
As someone who’s recovering from an eating disorder, i think if i ate all the stuff grace ate, i would like EVERYTHING because i have no personal taste, i just like everything, but one of my motivations to recover is that i wanna have my personal tastes and do taste tests :) i know no one cares but i just wanted to share, i love you grace xx
Good luck with your recovery! How about trying a new thing every time you go somewhere? Then you can start to make a list of foods you like and foods you don't. You could also get someone else to choose for you (if you are comfortable with that).
@@hannahk1306 I’m trying to do this but it’s still so hard to going out of my comfort zone, but I’m pushing myself to try more, but yesterday i tried chocolate and i don’t feel like it, it was a really big win to me :)
Caffè Nero barista here :) it definitely depends on who’s making your drink and I think this counts for all brands. Working the steamer and knowing how to produce the desired texture of milk etc is actually quite difficult and the quality of the drink (unlike the food and cakes) often comes down to the skill of the barista, although recipes do also play a part. Also when there are long queues it’s very easy to forget certain things! So I feel for the barista who made your drink and probably had a bad drink day (we all have them XD ) but yes the tomato and mozzarella panini is my absolute favourite for lunch it’s delicious! And you should definitely try the luxury (Milano) hot chocolate from Nero, I’m obsessed!! Loved the video :D and what you said about Nero customers being majority old people is so accurate 🤣 honestly in my Nero it’s the same local elderly people every day so we get to know them so well and it’s such a lovely little community vibe so I’m glad you liked the vibe in the Nero you went to as well :)
Honestly i always love hearing about people like you behind the till in more community driven things! Where i last lived, there was a corner shop that everyone goes to, everyone knows the family that works there, everyone loves them, it's great! And they always speak to you like you're their favourite/sole customer! I think i helped myself though as i always made them baked goods haha. But yeah, it's nice hearing how you appreciate it just as much on your end as we do ours as customers!
In a really really casual not mean way..why is your coffe way more bigger than other shops? Genuine question I worked opposite a Nero for 6 years and food was AMAZE but coffee was always so so bitter And I’m a coffee gal X
I mean tbh I’m not super sure because I’m personally not a coffee drinker 😂 but I think it’s because it’s supposed to be closer to like traditional Italian coffee, which is more bitter I think? (correct me if I’m wrong here) hence the whole “the best espresso this side of Milan” slogan. I just know there’s a super nice Italian woman who always comes in for a double espresso and says our coffee is the best she can find in the UK. Hope this helps :)
As a former barista I completely agree, I used to cringe watching some of my fellow employees making drinks - there was a huge range of quality as they were not so strict over who they hired :/
This makes sense because sometimes when I go to costa and order a drink with one of the syrups sometimes it's not as sweet as it usually is... personally nero beats everyone hands down o iist love the taste of their coffee ☕️
I can't think of any chain doughnut shops in the UK, except Krispy Kreme. Pizzas would work well though. She could do a meat pizza, a veggie pizza and a side from each place.
As a coffee drinker, my coffee ranking for all three would be: 1. Caffè Nero 2. Costa Coffee 3. Starbucks Starbucks coffee just doesn't taste like coffee should at all, it may be OK for people who aren't proper coffee drinkers. The worst for coffee is Pret, whatever roast of beans they use, it just tastes burnt every time I've had a coffee from them.
Starbucks coffee is by far the worst coffee. Here in Australia I would drink macdonalds coffee before I'd drink Starbucks, and I won't drink macdonalds coffee unless there is literally no other option within a 1 hour drive 🤣
@Jasmine Pigot I couldn't imagine going to a McDonald's for coffee lol, can't believe Starbucks is that bad in Australia. You'll only catch me at a McDonald's when I'm craving a fillet o fish and a mcflurry
Caffè Nero is my favourite because it actually feels like a cafe and you can get good coffee (depending on the barista). Starbucks is awful coffee/food. Costa is a bit naf to me but it has had a b it of a glow up in recent years. There decor always reminds me of a cheap hotel lobby.
After being raised in Australia and then living in Idaho for four years, going to England and having a Costa coffee was a spiritual experience that will never be surpassed. The chocolate twist I had! Ugh, I still think about it. Starbucks comes nowhere near.
Starbucks recently changed their recipe for their hot chocolate and all of the workers (at least the ones I work with) agree that it changed for the worse. It used to be mocha sauce and vanilla, so it was much sweeter, but they took the vanilla out of the recipe. If you like a sweeter hot chocolate, I suggest ordering it with vanilla syrup or a black and white hot chocolate :)
cafe nero is just so good! i always feel like it feels super luxury for a chain! and there hot chocs are SENSATIONAL - feel like you may have got a bad one or something?!?! :((
The seriousness you took with the reviews had my laughing so much (in a good way, promise 😂) totally something I'd do! Going to go Costa for that brownie and drink and cafe Nero for the panini
Would love a comparison of fresh bakery goods from places like Lidl, Tesco, Sainsbury’s etc. Great video. Really enjoyed also think Costa and Caffè Nero are superior for their vegan options too 🤫
The thing is that Starbucks quality control is very good. Every location is exactly the same so you know your drink will be exactly the same no matter where you go from city to city or different countries.
Yeah, but consistently bad is not a good thing. Standardisation is fine if you like the standard, but I've always found Starbucks to be disappointing and overpriced. If I'm going to a different country, I'd personally much rather go to a local café and have something that I can't get at home.

I’m craving a mozzarella pesto tomato panini now haha! Costa is my fav. Love the drinks, love the vibes. Haven’t really had any of their bread. I think Costa should have won this one.
Grace! I would love to see a chocolate croissant/pain au chocolat showdown! I plan on visiting London after I graduate here in the U.S. and am a big fan of them! Would love your recommendations too!
Chocolate filled croissants are literally the best, however I’ve had them from Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Morrisons and they all taste the same lol. That might just be me tho
Costa for the win any day, coffee beans are so smooth, we now also have them at home in my coffee machine. Love a good old costa catch up with friend and family too and love a sweet treat or mac and cheese from there too. Starbucks is over rated, I personally find the coffee is so bitter and cafe Nero, just never had a good experience in there, but each to their own. Definitely think you should do it with a coffee lover though to taste out the coffee bean taste x
Grace, when your favourite drink is a hot water I find it difficult to believe that something is really too chocolatey rather than just a bit too much for you
The Rhett and Link gut check reference yes Grace we love GMM! 🥰I always think it would be such a fun idea to do in real life and such a good video concept!
I've not been to a cafe in years at this point, but Caffe Nero was always my favorite hot chocolate (with dairy-free milk), Costa's didn't taste chocolatey enough for me and Starbucks was the absolute worst. I can make better ones at home with powder! Starbucks to me is overrated and all about its popularity and name. Caffe Nero's cheese and pesto panini (like I said, haven't been for years so goodness knows if they even still do it) was wonderful!!
Absolutely agree on Starbucks - it's always my last choice and always disappointing. Maybe it's ok for coffee, but I don't drink coffee so I wouldn't know.
If we’re talking coffee, it’s Starbucks at number 1 for me, Caffe Nero second (they’re lacking a bit on the lattes but their mochas are really good) and Costa’s coffee is… basically undrinkable tbh… I tried to get a caramel cappuccino from there once (they didn’t even have caramel syrup) it literally tasted like they went into the garden, dug up some dirt, and put it into hot water with milk. Never again 😹
Wow, Starbucks hot chocolate (rich, dark, real chocolate, with maybe a zing of coffee) is exactly how I like mine! Each to their own, but thanks for the awesome and entertaining reviews!
Grace you need to speak up, take those items back and demand new ones and fresh hot chocolates with fresh cream. One thing I learned in the food business, if you don’t ask you don’t get. As well as your paying them, not the other way around. Hope this helped x
I feel like Café Nero and Starbucks failing on the drink was just unacceptable and should be given a higher weighing than the other categories. Seriously what was the hot choc? Poor Costa got a hard review. It seemed the best.
I live in America so we don't have all the same with coffee shops. But I've definitely been known to go to one coffee shop for the food and another coffee shop for the coffee on the same trip lol
From your comments I have no idea how Costa came last and not first. You literally couldn't even drink the other two drinks and you seemed to like the costa brownie the best by far based on your reaction
Starbucks barista here! I can concur, the hot chocolate can be a bit intense. Since the mocha sauce is basically cocoa and sugar mixed with water, I can see why people think it’s a bit too dark. One of my favourite mods is the ‘black and white’ hot chocolate, which is half mocha and half white mocha (if you can have that tiny bit of dairy from the wm sauce). If not, ask for a tiny bit of vanilla syrup in it, that’s how we used to make it a few years ago before they changed the core recipe. As for the cocoa powder, that was discontinued! The core recipe asks for a drizzle of mocha sauce, though I rarely add it on because it makes such a mess 🤣 Greetings from Canada ❤
Cafe Nero 2 main items yuck and the hot choc totally unacceptable . I feel you wimped out on blasting Nero and went in wanting Costa to loose from the start Bad past experience ?
Living in the land of Starbucks, they are unavoidable (I have FIVE within a two mile radius of my house) but even Seattleites will tell you we prefer other places for our coffee and treats. However, the Starbucks Roastery here (the BIG restaurant style Starbucks) has INCREDIBLE food - but it's only there, not at regular Starbucks. Wha wha. We don't have Costa or Cafe Nero, but I have tried both in London and I think I liked them equally.
OOOHHHHH I am such a coffee shop connesiuer later so this video really intrigued me Grace!! I love the cake pops and vanilla cold brew from Starbucks, but just recenty I've been trying little independent coffee shops here in Hollywood where I live and I must say, I like them better than the chain shops! 😋 We don't have Costa here but I'd love to try it someday! Sending you big hugs and lots of love and support from LA! xo 🥰🤗🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤💕
Cafe Nero is amazing for really good savoury food, I always get the cheese toastie there or the chicken and bacon one. They're always heavy with so much cheese oozing out and the bread is even coated in cheese too
Starbucks worker here! I will say cafe Nero have always smashed it with savourys I feel, that Starbucks brownie is very new and it doesn't compare to the old one at all! And I will say Costa hot chocolate slaps, but Starbucks white hot chocolate is incredible. I feel coffee shops are very much down to personal opinion and it varies depending on who makes your drink!
I’m a Costa gal through and through really, though I don’t get much time to experience cafe Nero so maybe should try there more! Let’s just say I’m not a Starbucks fan… not about that vibe
It’s funny I’m the opposite, I think that Starbucks hot chocolate is quite subtle, I’m happy to have a large with whole milk and don’t feel ill. Meanwhile Costa I find far to sweet even in a small, especially with whole milk, I need to have oat milk to make it palatable 😅❤
I feel like coffee shops in the UK are all only great at one thing each and that’s always been my opinion. - Costa has the best coffee - Nero has the best vibes and locations - Pret has the best food - Starbucks the cold drinks Though the pistachio iced latte from Nero is ELITE!! God tier drink.
I love you so much I got scared when I didn’t see a video from you after you told us that you got engaged I was scared that we had to fight someone jk but fr we love u and so. Happy to be here to see you grow in all your forms thank you for showing us you and your family ❤
Caffè Nero makes the best coffee in my opinion so they win for me. I wouldn’t go to any of them for savoury snacks because I think they’re expensive for what you get. I have been known to buy a brownie or a piece of lemon drizzle cake.
You missed a trick with Caffè Nero. Their Milano hot chocolate is my favourite hot chocolate in the world. Recommend if you’re not a fan of milky hot chocolates.
HAVE YOU BEEN TO POPHAMS YET? I keep writing about Pophams in the comments in the hope that someday you will go. This is probs my 10th time writing about Pophams lol. There are a few locations one in Victoria Pak, Islington and London fields.
I feel like you need to do this with a coffee lover because those items are some of the worst that coffee shops have to offer 😭 Starbucks raspberry and white chocolate blondie is where it’s at every time 😍
When Grack rates coffee shops but doesn't like coffee 🤣.
You definitely need to do one of these with a coffee lover.
I was thinking this too 😂😂😂 not qualified!!!!

What I said! Lol

as a person that also doesn't drink coffee, this was really informative for me
I know I shouldn't take it seriously, but damn, Costa was a clear winner but Grace has something against it and simply didn't want it to win 😂

Pret, Grace… Pret is burgundy 😅😂
🤣

Yeah right? Costa won in two categories. I was so confused. I hope we get an update on this :D
Yea I was confused too in the end by the sudden change of reaction xD

And I will say Costa hot chocolate slaps, but Starbucks white hot chocolate is incredible. I feel coffee shops are very much down to personal opinion and it varies depending on who makes your drink!
As you were describing caffe nero, I was thinking "it's going to be a 68" and then you said "68!" 😊
I'm so sad about the cafe nero hot chocolate! They are always my TOP TOP hot chocolate. I would not right it off just yet.
The only way I enjoy starbucks hot cocoa is with peppermint. It changes everything.
Meanwhile Costa I find far to sweet even in a small, especially with whole milk, I need to have oat milk to make it palatable 😅❤
firmly in camp nero here
You should so do this with honor!!!!!
I feel like coffee shops in the UK are all only great at one thing each and that’s always been my opinion.
- Costa has the best coffee
- Nero has the best vibes and locations
- Pret has the best food
- Starbucks the cold drinks
Though the pistachio iced latte from Nero is ELITE!! God tier drink.
I love you so much I got scared when I didn’t see a video from you after you told us that you got engaged I was scared that we had to fight someone jk but fr we love u and so. Happy to be here to see you grow in all your forms thank you for showing us you and your family ❤
You should try a coffee #1, such a great coffee shop!!! Highly recommend 😋
You can totally take that hot choccie back to cafe Nero and ask for a new drink!
Cafe nero seemed the nicest to me, in all fairness I do also like a calmer atmosphere.
Grackle really is my comfort UA-camr. There’s just something so relaxing about her videos
Dunno what pophams is but hope she goes lmao
There's something about the plant based milk they use at Costa, it has a weird taste! That has really put me off going there, Caffè Nero all the way!
Costa chicken fajita wrap is my go to there, I tend to think they have the best selection of savoury for other than pret!
u made my monday
Coffe no1 is my favourite coffee shop, they always have amazing promotional drinks! I’m also not a coffee lover❤
"Hot choccy woccy" lol
I feel like you need to do this with a coffee lover because those items are some of the worst that coffee shops have to offer 😭 Starbucks raspberry and white chocolate blondie is where it’s at every time 😍
Caffe nero hot chocolates used to be DELICIOUS but I havent had one in a long while . Maybe you got a duff one !!! I'm a caffe nero gal :)
I think it depends on the location with the clientele because in Birmingham the Caffè Nero is near a Sea Life and is always has loads of little kids
