I made this for my niece but she quickly grew out of it so now I’m transforming it into a reading nook. Thanks so much for including the plans!! This was my first wood project ever and I couldn’t have done it without it!
So those palettes come from God knows were and are loaded with chemicals and who knows what. The last thing I’d do is burn them for heat or in any way use them for furniture.
Looks amazing, and I'm sure little one loved it, I have one on the way, in about 5 months, I love making things from pallets. Would live to try this, was thinking of adding some padding on the inside, with some fabric stretched over it.
I love your moon cradle. And love the Merrell. Both of them fit together. Be beautiful in little boy or girl's room. Even in a Nursery. Take foam and cut it out. To the shape of the bottom of the Cradle. Then put vinyl upholstery. To cover up the foam. Then put your baby sheet. On the mattress. Baby can stay in the Cradle when it's little. And it should go down from generation to generation. Thank you for sharing your video.
just love this..... I'm going to break it down to a smaller version done in paper mache and then into a doll bed for my grand daughter... yep... thanks for the awesome idea
That's really neat love how it turned out ,would be great to make a smaller version for pet beds ,loved the back drop paper you put up it really made it stand out . Top job Cheers Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
futerman mega tree farming does very well and responsibly in the northwest and generally for every 1 tree taken down, 2 are planted in its place and the area rests for MANY years and often is never logged again.
Here are 2 more pictures with the dimensions of the cradle and the bottom: www.dropbox.com/s/nus1p05lcbo1d87/moon_cradle_bottom.pdf?dl=0 www.dropbox.com/s/gsiviyimjtomzvc/moon_cradle_dimensions.pdf?dl=0
I love the cradle, it is a great piece, but using pallet wood raises a major issue. What was on that pallet during it's life? So many of them carry chemicals of some sort. Also, alot, if not all are subject to chemicals to kill off any insects that may live in the wood, so that it doesn't spread to other countries. One last thing is that most, if not all containers being shipped have a pesticide bomb tossed in just before closing it for the final trip to it's destination. These are all chances for chemicals to penetrate into the wood, and cause it to be a chemical hazard. Especially for an infant. There is no way to clean the wood to remove the chemicals. I've seen so many great items made from pallets, and I am all about recycling / re-purposing, but the use of pallet wood for most anything is a bad idea.
None of dropbox links is working. Could you please upload plans somewhere else and share the links again? I would like to build it for my little baby. Thank you very much!
this is absolutely amazing. I'm curios as to know how long this took u to make. I'm intrested in trying to make this and just wanted to know as a intermediate (learning) carpenter if i would have the time. I have 6 Daughters so i dont have a lot of spare time. lol Thank you for such a great video.
GiGi Ingram looking at the changes of clothes I'd say 4 days in total, but I could be completely wrong...... I've just made a frame less version in just over 7 days total. 😎
Is the arc of the two large circles big enough that when you attach the roof and back pieces there isn't much of a gap? Or did you cut those pieces with slight angles so they would join together better?
Sorry to keep pestering you, I just want to get this done right for my friend. On you diagram that shows where you mapped out to create the two circles, I can't understand your measurements. The two marks at 590mm are essentially at the midpoint of the wide end of the board, or roughly at the 2 foot mark or midpoint and they meet in the middle to then help form the large circle. The other circle is the one I am not understanding. Where do the 906mm and 751mm measurements start? Do you understand my confusion now looking at the diagram?
First set the center point of the big circle at 590x590mm from the sides of the board and draw the circle with a radius of 585mm, this will give you a big circle. Then set the center point at 906x751mm and draw a smaller circle with a radius of 380mm, then you'll get the moon shape you need.
What kind of blade are you using with the jig saw? I see the jig saw is a Bosch... just wondering if thats a special blade. I have had a hard time using jig saws with pallet wood...
Will Urban I agree. And honestly this all about entertaining the adults and making them feel good because a baby gives no rips about the shape his/her cradle is. It's basically using your child as a piece of art or conversation pieces.
deion guice It's a ridiculous waste of time. Buy or make a standard bed. And honestly, one of the safest ways for a small infant to sleep is in a basket/box with padding in a blanket sleeper. Conserve your resources, time and money for later.

one suggestion...instead of all that sanding run board through a planer before cutting then after cut hit edges with belt sander major time saver.

sandpaper cost more than wood pallet, but I like the idea

They actually have codes on them that show how they were treated so u can tell whether or not it is safe
Wondering if this is possible for a toddler bed, all of the plans I find are for a little baby and not big enough for a normal size crib mattress
Why not? Just use my plans and change the size
That's a great job and a great idea. I have a question though. Who is the music by?
+321hoss The music is: Sarah McLachlan - World On Fire (Junkie XL Mix)
Thanks!
think I am going to try this with new wood and torch the wood, then clear coat the whole thing several times... to bad I can't post a pick on here...
Erik Krumm I think that can give a great effect!
Nice! and wow😉 and am i the first to say that your last name is close to another wood worker 😉

hey, its really wonderfull. how big is the mattress, which would fit in your moon cradle ?
Osman Korkmaz: the mattress I used is 80x40cm and 7cm thick
I like it ;)
Hi thanks for the video and the Dropbox link, very helpful. I've got one question! Was you able to get both moon shapes out of 1 sheet of MDF?
Sophie Sparrowhawk Yes, they came out of a sheet from 244x122cm
Yes I've just read the PDF again and did the measurements from center point to radius of the large circle and it comes in at 1175mm lol. Thanks again.
Are u in the Usa? I love ur work and would be interested in ordering one if possible
Dee Matthews I’ve only made one.. I’ve seen a french website that sold them, but I don’t think they will ship to the USA.
Dee Matthews hi! If you download the app offer up I found one, I live in CA but maybe they ship! They’re customized ones just search for moon crib!
Dee Matthews offerup.co/5IN4E7PyhX
Can this be made with a different wood? What would you suggest if so?
رائع
[Borat boice] “very nice”
How hard do you think th would be to make
Is the arc of the two large circles big enough that when you attach the roof and back pieces there isn't much of a gap? Or did you cut those pieces with slight angles so they would join together better?
Annony Mouse there is a minor gap because the pallet wood doesn’t have an arc. But you’ll cover that with the wood on the sides.
What did you paint on it at 3:50?

is it possible for me to do this concept but I wanted it to paint the side for a basketball. can I do a full circle or is that weird

Jochem Dijkstra how far apart did it make the squares away from each other on the step by step guide sir ?
Hi just wondering what size mattress to buy? Thanks!
Jazmine Delarosa I designed it for a mattress of 80x40cm and 7cm thick
Hello, hoping this comment doesn’t get lost.. looking to make this soon but just curious what did you do for a mattress? That’s the part I’m a bit stuck on. Any insight would be appreciated, thank you!
Ashley Stoothoff I used a standard size Ikea mattress which is 120x60cm in size. Hope that helps 😉
What kind of white wash varnish did you use?
Elizabeth Nel: it is a varnish for scaffolding wood
May I know what is the song ,or who sing it
What did you use to make the mattress out of for the baby to lay on?
Just some plywood with some holes in it for ventilation.
Fantastisch ontwerp. Wat voor pallets heb je gebruikt? Euro pallets of weggooi pallets.
Weggooi pallets, de planken daarvan zijn net wat dunner wat hier mooier uitkwam.
Waar in Nederlands kan ik gratis palleten vinden?
legal 👍👏👏👏
How much do you charge to do this?
Why did you decide to cut out the inside of the moon? Less weight..?
Yes, otherwise it would get to heavy and you don’t really need the inside
@@JochemDijkstra awesome thank you a buddy of mine and I just started the project for him and his wife and it’s coming together well! Thanks for sharing!
what you sound effect ?
Is there a way for me to get blueprints for this
