    There are so many of these podcasts on the net. You're the only one that I take seriously, Fink. I'm not giving up prospects for Crochet. He's a Tommy John candidate waiting to happen. This, of course, means that the Mets are going to back up the truck for him. Free agency is the way to go. You get to add talent AND keep prospects. Besides, it not my money.😅

    My thing is just get Soto and everything else will be icing on the cake. Would love to somehow get Crochet without giving up our top guys like Jett although I am aware that is probably as likely as us getting Roki. I do not really understand why it seems like we are never in on the Japanese guys though when we have Senga. Do these guys not respect him? All I hear is Dodgers or Padres because of Yu who is 38 years old! Does anyone have this answer?

      All the Japanese guys want to play on the west coast bc it’s much closer to Japan. They especially prefer the Dodgers, so they can play with other Japanese superstars on a perennial contender with likelihood of winning a WS great.

    Why does everyone keep saying Adames could be moved to third? I can't believe no one is considering him for second base. If that happened and the Mets could retain Pete, then they would have at every infield position someone capable of hitting 30 or more homers, plus hopefully another guy in right who could do the same. Then they'd need a new nickname, like the Mashin' Mets.

      No, he’s really not. I’d trade for him in a heartbeat. The Mets don’t have any untouchable, blue-chip prospects, so I don’t think they have much of a shot at landing him unless they do a depth deal, and send several top prospects to Chicago, which I’d be just fine with. Fans always overrate prospects. Crochet is a 25-year-old ace who wants an extension. If there’s a deal on the table, you do it yesterday.

Again, Sproat is the one guy I think will be pretty good, but he’s only 15 months younger than Crochet, and he struggled in Triple-A while Crochet was mowing down MLB hitters. This is a no-brainer. As LSharp said, you let the White Sox pick any 4 prospects, maybe even 5 if you include post-hype guys like Baty and Mauricio in the mix (I’d even include Álvarez, who is what he is at this point, but I’m probably alone on that island), and if they say yes, you say yes before they have a chance to change their minds.

      Williams is not a blue-chipper. I’d trade him for Crochet without hesitation. Same with literally every other prospect in the Mets’ system, except maybe Sproat-except Sproat is only 15 months younger than Crochet, who is already an ace and wants an extension. A) Y’all are massively overrating the Mets’ prospects. The Mets’ system has depth, but there are no untouchable blue-chippers in the bunch, certainly not when it comes to Crochet. Sproat might qualify, but he’s only 15 months younger than Crochet, who is already an ace. I’d happily package several of them to get a deal done. It won’t happen, because teams like Boston and LA have 3-5 prospects who are better than anyone the Mets have. But y’all want the Mets to hold on to low-percentage lottery tickets, instead of taking the giant pile of money (Crochet, in this metaphor) sitting right there! Why??! It’s insane. B) The Mets should not bother with Adames, Bregman, or the washed-up Arenado. At least Adames hits the ball hard and could be OK; the other two would be disasters at Citi. But Adames has a career 109 wRC+, his full-season career high was 120 in 2021, while Pete’s WORST year was a 121 in 2023. Pete was too passive this year, but the power is still there. C) If the Mets have to sign one of the big FA pitchers (again, Crochet is their best bet, but unlikely), then Snell is the best bet, assuming he can be had on a 3 or 4-year deal. Except that Álvarez can’t catch him. They’d need a backup who’s a good blocker to be Snell’s personal catcher. Oh, I’d probably include Álvarez in a Crochet deal too, if the White Sox insisted (quelle horreur!). Álvarez is who he is at this point. He’s always had a terrible approach, it hasn’t changed, and it would have to change in a major way for him to be an above-average hitter. D) Yes, the Mets should back up a Brinks truck for Soto. E) They should see if Buehler and Bieber would take prove-it deals. With an adjusted pitch mix, Buehler can be next year’s Severino, and Bieber obviously has upside, though he won’t return until midseason. F) Some teams might be interested in lowering payroll. Some teams might have an ace who has 3 years left on his deal. Some teams might have an ace who has had injury issues, but they were all related to his elbow, and said ace has a new one now. Some teams might have an ace who was his old self when he returned in September (in fact, his stuff numbers went UP). Some teams might have an ace who used to pitch in Queens and was the best pitcher not named Seaver they ever had. Come home, said ace. The fans who are mad at you are dumb.

      Yeah, Adames is going to get way more money than he should. I don’t care about batting average, but he has career 109 wRC+. His best full season was a 120 back in 2021, this year was a 119. Pete’s WORST year was a 121 in 2023 (it was 122 this year). Much of Adames’s value comes from his defense, but he wouldn’t be playing SS obviously. His bat isn’t interesting at 3B. Don’t have any interest in Bregman, either. He’s a pulled fly ball merchant whose walk rate plummeted this year, and he started chasing more. He doesn’t hit the ball particularly hard either, so expect lots of “F7”s in the scorecard if he ends up at Citi (at least Adames has some juice in his bat and posts double digit barrel rates every year). Nolan Arenado used to be Alex Bregman (very similar profile), but he’s washed now.

      One of the biggest knocks on the Yankees this year was that their defense was one of the worst in baseball. You are not going to win a ton of games if your offense is all or nothing.

      @IdliAmin_TheLastKingofSambar 2 місяці тому

      The White Sox (yes, even the White Sox) would laugh hysterically and hang up the phone. The Mets absolutely should trade for Garrett Crochet, and they should not hesitate to include their top prospects. The Mets don’t have any blue-chippers, but they have depth. Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Acuña-these aren’t future All-Stars we’re talking about. Jonah Tong’s lack of a third pitch is probably going to land him in the bullpen. (I don’t care about Acuña’s tiny big league cup of coffee. He faced subpar pitching that was afraid to face Lindor at the top of the lineup. What he did-or didn’t do-at Triple-A is much more indicative of his true talent level.) Even Brandon Sproat is only 15 months younger than Crochet, who is already an ace. This is a no-brainer; if it costs you a few prospects, you do it. But teams like the Red Sox and Dodgers each have 3-5 prospects who are better than anyone the Mets have, so one of them is going to land Crochet. The Mets will give a Strasburg deal to Burnes (probably against Stearns’s wishes), and it will, uh, Burnes them in the end. Look, I will always be a pessimist. It’s who I am.
