- After I received my Beckmans (resole) from Minnesota. I had them on my tool box. I passed them while wearing my 9161 Blacksmiths and thought - - These are very close if not the same boot. So, here ya go...a comparison toe to toe. Fraternal twins is a good way to put this comparison.

Little tiny tip for you for that heel digging into your tendon, put plenty of obenauf's oil on the INSIDE of the boot where the problem is occurring (do not saturate the leather). This will hopefully with heat and further wear soften the leather and give you more comfort. This technique of conditioning hot spots of the outside and inside of a small portion of a boot is used for difficult to break in 8 oz leathers, which many heavy duty boots are composed of.
I have the exact same briar oil loggers and I have no problem with the counter area, even when hiking. I also wear only thicker socks with them.

In regards to the Logger boots, The folds on the heel counter will switch from a few large ones to a bunch of small, softer ones over time. Thats my experience. I bought my pair after your presentation of them some time back and i love them now! Taking some trips on an uneven trail really helps breaking in that heel area.
I have a pair of the blacksmiths in brier oil, 4522 I think. They fit so perfectly and are so comfortable that I would like to have these features in an iron ranger in black harness. Was such a boot ever made and what does OG stand for. I enjoy watching your channel, especially the care product videos. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

For me it's the Beckman. I don't care for the pebbled look so much on the new Blacksmith, and I love that the Beckmans are named after the founder of Red Wing. My Beckmans are still not completely broken in, but I love em~~ Thanks for the breakdown!

Blacksmith is my jam. The 9161 just has a classic look. I've been wearing my 8015 spitfire blacksmiths the most out of all of my pairs of boots, been loving them. Looking forward to what you're going to sell! I also wear size 9 in RW.
I’m breaking in my first few pair of Redwings, a pair for every season I figured. (Full disclosure, I am new to this style of boot) A couple are tough to break in … so I bought the Cobblers choice shoe trees, off of Amazon. I’ve been folding up paper towels, and shoving them into problematic areas, to stretch the leather. Seems to be working I think … 🤷🏻♂️
Awesome comparison! I have the 9414s as Nordstrom seconds, and I believe they were released for the Japan market. They also have the Vibram name stamped on the outsole just like your new resole. I LOVE them. Interesting that the future last will be different; I wonder why? Watching this makes me want a Blacksmith, but think I’ll just resole my 2950s when it’s time. 😃

The only difference is the Roccia vs. Nitrile Cork.... Yes, but maybe take a closer look to the construction.
Blacksmith: Inner sole, cork filling, Nitrile Cork sole.
Beckman: Inner sole, cork filling, TWO leather soles, Roccia sole / heel.
This construction of the Beckman (or the Chelsea 2917/18), the two different leather soles, give these boots a special look. IMHO it molds even better to your feet than the Nitrile Cork.
No, Beckman has upper sole made of cardboard or some similar piece of shit and only down part is leather.

Been wearing my 3340's a lot recently. Not nearly as polarizing as an IR/Moc Toe. Good for just throwing something on to go out. I remember saving up in college to buy the 9016's so that's good news. Hoping RW can come out with more cool stuff soon.

one thing I would like you to do, since you own basicaly every leather rw ever produced ... measure the thickness of diff leathers and vintages. if you have a gauge that is , can be had for 20$ I guess... :D

FYI, the new Beckmans with the Vibram soles are already showing up on Nordstrom Rack sporadically. I'm fairly certain these are factory seconds as the rerelease isn't even out yet.
They are Japanese rejects... which means they still look really good.

Busted out my 9011s today for the first time this season. I forgot how much I love these boots. Got a random compliment on them from a woman while out on a walk. That’s gotta say something, right? I’m glad to hear they are coming back because I don’t have a casual black boot. Kind of a toss up between the Beckman or IR.

I like that they stained the edge of your top mid sole layer dark and left the bottom one light (is it left natural?). It looks really sharp.

Red Wing Singapore told me that the older Beckman like 9014 had a problem with the outsole. In tropical weather the sole tends to disintegrate. The problem was also reported in some local forums here. The new vibram soles are supposed to solve the problem

Interesting video and I recognise the Beckman popularity, but I found them very heavy to the extent that I didn't enjoy wearing them. I had them two years, so I believe I wore them in, but in the end I sold them. The Blacksmith is lighter and more comfortable and definitely easier to wear in. Both great lookers, though.

Ok CJ, Red Wing Needs to give you some Props, I never ever bought Red Wing boots, First time for me. Saw your Videos, Went to Store, Got Measured and Picked up 4 Sets of Red Wings, Because I couldn't decide on Color , kinda liked them all and knew there would be a place and time for all colors.
I went with BlackSmiths because they were easier to break in as you mentioned. Thanks for the tip.
Here is what I picked up- The Iron Rangers in OxBlood Mesa "8119" While I was At it. Picked up 3 pairs of BlackSmith, One Black Prairie 3345. another in Copper Rough & Tough Leather "3343" as well as pair coming from Europe HAWTHORNE MULESKINNER "3344" I was lucky they had that it in my size :o)

Hey CJ, I bought two pairs of the Blacksmith. I had the intention of getting one relasted to a flat-toe like the 9060, but now I'm not so sure if I should wait for the new Beckman's, or if I should resole them. Will they have a flat toe?
Yes if i remember correctly they have a flat toe
Do you go 1/2 size up to compensate for the insole. I wear 10.5 without insoles, but in the 1907's, I wear an 11 with factory insoles.
For a full insole yes go a half size up.

Roccia is the heaviest. Gro-Cord is next then Vibram.
Not sure if I should get a beckman since I have a merchant, blacksmith, and IR. Definitely will get that classic chelsea that comes in April.

For the heel counter that is digging into your Achilles; take them to a Red Wing store and ask them to stretch the area that's irritating you with a Ball & Ring stretcher.

You would have to request the Vibram sole otherwise they will use the Roccia sole

You can find the 9060 on eBay. There are plenty. I sold my 9060s.
@@CJCook I've seen a few on ebay, I'm just not sure on the fitting (being an 8 on Red Wing normally). I'm in Sweden so hopefully there's a pair closer to home. Would you consider Black Prairie equal, better or worse than Klondike? From certain reviewers the Klondike leather has a richer depth in the brown/black patina, as opposed to the brack prairie that seems duller. Any truth to this according to your experience?
@@DocBuzzkill I prefer the Black Prairie leather. It is softer and has a matte finish. The Klondike has a bit of gloss to it. If you wear an 8 in the Iron Ranger I would size you in an 8.5 9060.

@@CJCook That's what I thought, just having a hard time with Canvas lining on the newer blacksmith. Leather lining is nice. Maybe I will pick up the Cherry's in Beckman and Coppers and Black in Blacksmith.

I know I'm probably the only one but I cant stand Beckmans. The leather feels way too unnaturally smooth. It creases with those super fine creases that look like tiny cracks. The boot is hard to get in and out of too. Its just not my thing so I strongly prefer blacksmiths. I curious to see what they are like when they come back.
They are closer to the 9060s
Maybe the new Beckman will be a little wider. Can’t never wear black Smith or beckman, to narrow.
Some of the old Beckmans come in wide sizes too. I have the black beckmans in an E width.
@@minghsiuchua8115 They really do. Not weight or ethnicity related in the slightest either. I'm near 100% Northern European and have skinny, flat, 12.5E's for feet.
