I try to sum it up in this mini doc with a look back on his life and his band Double Trouble. Blues or rock & roll SRV could bring it! I Remember...The Year That Stevie Died....He Kept Saying That "It Would Be A Shame If My Next Show Is Last Show I Ever Get To Do & I Don't Give It My Best".....I Didn't See Stevies' Last Show But I Saw Him Shortly Before That....I Can ASSURE Him....He Disappointed NO ONE!!!!!

Stevie is right up there with Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, ZZ Top and Johnny Winters. You can tell when somebody has fallen asleep with a guitar in their hands a few times, like Stevie probably did. I see it a lot now when I watch old vids of Jimi. Just the way that his hands hold the guitar, the familiarity.

Stevie Absolutely ADORED Jimi Hendrix! Like No One Else I Ever Heard Of!! He Knew Greg Allman, The Boys In ZZ, Since He Was A Kid, & Johnny Winter! The Coolest Thing About Stevie Is That He Appreciated EVERYBODY & Their Individual Style & Talent, & Just Loved Playing With Them ALL! He Never Saw Himself As Bigger Or Better Than ANYBODY - TRULY! That Is RARE & So Sincerely Stevie!
@@maureendrozda9960 Sound like you knew him? I met a lot of "stars" in the '60s music scene and they were just regular folks. Met Jimi, Janis, Ray Manzarek of the Doors and so many others in Cleveland and at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. Some of the best were self-conscious and didn't think they were very good. Bob Dylan was one, Linda Rondstadt thought adoring fans were talking in the front row about how bad she was. I must have seen 500 bands in the '60s/'70s, maybe a thousand IDK. I live for music.

Excellent video. Thank you! I'm a drummer in an SRV tribute band in Japan. I'm American and the bassist and guitarist are both Japanese. We're probably the best SRV tribute band in Japan. I also own a blues venue in Gifu City, Japan. Blues music is alive and kicking here. It's super fun to play Stevie's music live. Our guitarist uses the exact same guitars and amps too. Sometimes when I'm onstage, I feel like Stevie is there with us. His spirit is. We turn on a lot of people to his music. Especially the younger crowd. But that's the point of our tribute band. Sharing the music and inspiring other people. This video inspires me to continue what I'm doing with my friends, living life by the drop. Thank you!

Stevie was just incredible! he was the best guitar player I ever heard or saw. I was at his last venue at Alpine Valley I was blown away by all the incredible talent I saw that night but Stevie stole the show he was a lightning rod. I cried like a baby the next day I got the news he died. RIP SRV

I do. I play along with his songs as if we where playing together. And sometimes I see him smiling at me as if he's training me for a show. Thank you stevie. For everything
will never comprehend how he pulled out of such a horrific addiction. There's a video of him playing the Star Spangled Banner with a slide at a baseball game opener years before he cleaned up & it's just frightening to watch. He & Ed Van Halen managed to overcome their demons...how, I'll never know.
Jimmy did a great job accepting SRV award for HOF I live in CLE and have been there many times and still cry when I see any of his memorabilia. Theres a hell of a band in Heaven

Srv was the goat in my opinion!! He took Hendrix music and perfected it. Never heard anyone play live with so much soul!! He will always be the greatest in my opinion.
Riviera Paradise, Leave My Little Girl Alone. He did a killer rendition of Mary Had a Little Lamb at a performance on 7-3-88; the footage is on UA-cam and blew me away.

I was in Alpine Valley Wisconsin that night. Driving back home to Chicago we were blasting SRV all the way back. It wasn’t until the next morning we heard the news that would change my life forever. I have the ghost of that night’s performance. I wish I could share it with all true fans.
wow !... a lot of things I did not know about Stevie and his story until seeing this documentary/video, .. but he was definitely the reason I got into the blues.... RIP Stevie
Only just saw this one and had to share my story here. In 1983 , at a good friends urging , we went to see some “ Blues guitar playing guy “ at SanDiego State’s Montezuma Hall , and that was my introduction to SRV. To say I was floored would be a giant understatement. He played so ferocious & fluidly all at the same time & in the course of about 20 minutes I had worked my way to the front of the stage to witness what my 23 year old mind just couldn’t believe I was seeing & hearing. Local Radio here in San Diego was only just starting to play some of his songs and he was almost unheard of here . That Quickly changed . It’s really Sad that I only saw him play live in person that one time, but I have been a life long fan ever since , and was heartbroken when hearing of his sudden & tragic death in 1990. May his legacy & music live on forever, and thank you for sharing this slice of his history. 😎👍

SRV came out at a time when new wave and hair bands were prominent. There were many impressive guitarist at that time. These days there are these really overly technical players like Joe Bonnamassa, and others. No doubt those guys are impressive and nothing to ignore, but here was an x factor that SRV had that I don't know how to define. I saw him live twice. At the expense of sounding overdramatic, both times man, it was like there was something in the air. His presence, tone, and the way he would bend those strings. There was a feel that he had that just flooded the atmosphere. Technique and shredding is so impressive and great, but that xfactor. Whatever that was. SRV had it. I sure miss that guy.
Stevie had a killer band. Listen to how tight they played on the Arc Angels record too or how amazing his drummer is on the first Kenny Wayne Sheppard one although I don`t think he got credit except as a drum advisor or some such. And remember...the bass player was at Woodstock with Johnny Winter. As a drummer, musician, performer, and singer, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band and friends taught me so much that I still apply when I perform. I met Stevie and Jimmie in Dallas after hearing Stevie on the radio there while visiting in 1984. My sister was married to a neighbor of his from Oak Cliff and when I freaked out over how amazing, uplifting and unusual the song was I had heard they took me to meet him at a Jimmie Vaughan show. I honestly had no idea that I had met two legends.

I had the good fortune to grow up in central Texas, moving from the ranch I grew up on west of Travis County into Austin proper around 1981. Austin was a special place back then. I got to see SRV a few times, I liked hanging out at Antone's. SRVs music really changed the way I feel about electric blues and as a guitar player, I realize just how truly gifted he was...

oh yeah man! im so happy to see this one! thank you doc i really wish i could explain more about why i love double trouble but it would expose to many personal facts about my life but i will say this i got to meet and hang out and you hit the nail on the head stevie was amazing and humble he had the strongest hands i have met when he shook your hand you knew he was a guitar player he loved jimi but he knew jimi was jimi and he was stevie ray i guess the best way i can put it was stevie understood the fight jimi went through for his fame my 2 favorite songs is life by the drop and tinpan ally doc thank you so much for this one

He was the greatest of them all. Everyone else was a close second.
Stevie is unique and the heavy weight strings he used were so heavy the guitar necks would distort. Roy Buchanon was less known than Stevie but he is probably the guitarist who has as astonished me with the sounds he got out of his tele.
I saw him with a couple friends at Val du Lakes near Silver Lake Michigan about 2 weeks before he died…we worked our way down to right in front of the stage it was one of the most amazing concerts I’ve ever been to….one of the guys I was with was named Steve Horowski and he was a natural blues player also….I never saw him read a note of music…it all just came natural to him…and he was amazingly good as well…live on Stevie Ray
I always wondered what the relationship if any existed between SRV and Johnny Winter.Winter was my introduction to blues electric guitar until Vaughn showed up.Winter's playing slapped me in face but Vaughn's playing punched me in the face and knocked me out.

Great player and those who despised his style of playing or put it down, dont do so because they want you to think that they know, "real", blues jazz. They do because they can't and never will be able to play like that. He changed the way music was played so he's a pioneer. The haters are complete fools.
