I went to a "gig" in something called "Brøndby Poppen" right outside Copenhagen, sometime in 1968. This evening there were two bands on the program. One was Jeff Beck Group and the other was an unknown (at the time) band called Jethro Tull. Unfortunately Jeff Beck group's gear didn't turn op, so they had to cancel.
But Mister Beck wouldn't let down his fans, so he plugged his guitar in to one of the amps and played all by himself for almost an hour. I've never heard anything like it neither before nor after that night. Sadly, most of the audience didn't appreciate what they experienced, but saved all off their applause for this other (unknown) band. Well, they were good. But nowhere near what the "Guvenor" served us. I felt ashamed that they didn't show Mr. Beck how fantastic, what he had served us, were. But instead, almost went crazy over Jethro Tull. Never mind. I for one, shall never forget his fantastic playing that night. I have heard him five times since then, but that night will always stay with me as something special.
Steen..! What a terrific story...seems so typical of what a guy like him would do. It's so saddening to know that he's not among us now. Rest in Peace Jeff, in the Light of Almighty God..!
Strange no mention of Roy! or did I miss it? Buchanan was a huge influence on Jeff Beck who dedicated his version of Cause We've Ended As Lovers to him. Beck imitated his pinched harmonics and volume swells, that was a colossal part of his playing starting in the george martin era.
Discovered him with the Blow by Blow album, huge influence on my pwn playing, he was the only performer ( to date) to have me in floods of tears ( of joy) at his playing, most notably "A day in the life" at the O2 London arena 2010 where he opened for Clapton but blew him well away. Just saw him yet again this time with Johnny Dep last October, I'm deeply saddened at his passing.
I'd long been a Yardbirds fan and first saw Jeff in the JBG w/Wood, Stewart & Nicky Hopkins as a lad of 17 in 1969 which blew my teenage mind. Have also seen BB&A and many solo shows over the years. My #1 Beck album is Truth but BBB is a close #2. RIP Jeff. You will be sorely missed.

Same here, i fell in love with that album back in 72 and still love it today.
I stole the 8-trk. of 'Rough and Ready' that my dad, to my surprise, had bought when I headed west in 1977. Love that album, along with 'Truth', 'Blow by Blow', and 'Wired', the four JB albums I know best. ❤️ Rest In Peace and Power, Jeff Beck, eternal love and gratitude for the music and inspiration.
I was friends with Bobby Tench (the singer) back in the mid-seventies! Pretty cool…& lots of fun!! 🎉

What a warm and insightful piece about the “top one of one”. I never knew about Jeff’s childhood accident and the terrible legacy that left him with. Still, he overcame all that. There are some nice humorous stories about him. My favourite was about when he was auditioning drummers and along came Cozy Powell. Jeff went into the office asked the girl who was organising it who was left. She said his name, Beck was none the wiser, and asked what he was like, to which the girl said “I think you’ll like the look of him!” This puzzled Beck and he returned to the studio wondering what her cryptic remark meant, whereupon Powell walked into the studio. He could have been Jeff’s twin!

Excellent video! Jeff's Mick Jagger comments are hilarious! lol... Love "Blow by Blow". "Truth" is absolutely essential listening, and I also quite like the "Orange" album. Some of Jeff's more recent stuff is pretty stunning. Jeffrey never got old, he stayed young, fresh, and state-of-the-art. A true one-off. He shoulda lived forever.

In 1975 Blow by blow was my introduction to Jeff's musical genius. I wore that album out trying my best to emulate him on my first guitar, a Les Paul Copy from a pawn shop. I have sicce bought the cassette, the CD and now the digital versions of this great album. Every single guitar note/chord, drum beat and bass-line is imprinted in my brain. I'll miss your music Jeff but it is what you left us to listen to that will keep your presence on earth for many decades to come.

The element that will ensure the survival of a musician's legacy is not technique by itself, but composition. Geoffrey Arnold Beck had both.
In performance he was not a limelighter, but truly shared a stage, where he brought so many great talents before the public who otherwise may have remained obscure.
That's the measure of a musician, creativity and collaboration. His skill level was so developed he had to find music that challenged him.
Like many of you I have seen Jeff Beck many times. He always amazed us all. For me, after the concert was over I would go home and think about what I had just witnessed again. Then I would contemplate building a bonfire in my backyard, taking my guitars out there and burning them. Jeff Beck is a gift and his music lives forever.
Great documentary on one of my main inspirations as a lifelong guitarist and musician. Jeff Beck was one of a kind and always pushing the boundaries, as I do with my playing. There are many who can copy, but few who can push into different sonic and melodic ranges. Jeff and Jimi were on to new territory, always adventuring boldly and inspiring us all.
For, rough and ready, as well as Jeff Beck group with Bob Tench on vocals....Beck, Bogart and Appice also....RIP sir and thanku so much for the music that will live on forever.

1976.. Comiskey park (baseball stadium) in Chicago. Jeff was touring with Jan Hammer for the live album. A big deal all day show. Stu Day Band and Rick Derringer, then Jeff, then Aerosmith (not MY choice, lol). Halfway through Jeff's set someone's fireworks started the stands on fire. They left the stage, we sat in the outfield watching the fire get taken care of, glad for the smoke as that was the only shade we'd had all day. No panic, no stampede, no big deal. Once they had taken care of that, Jeff and the band came back out and finished their set. What a fantastic performance! RIP to one of the greats! I've stolen so much inspiration from you Jeff! thank you.

Jeff Beck's playing on Roger Water's much underappreciated Amused to Death album is masterful. Buy it now! Jeff liked to exercise his right to bare arms. I respect that.

Truth had the most incredible guitar tones since Are You Experienced?. The opening track, Shapes, was a complete reinvention that let the world know something different was happening. It really gave Electric Ladyland a run for its money.
I remember listening to "Truth" on 8-track and wondering why this guy sounded so different.
Blow By Blow....There And Back and Wired are my 3 favorite albums by Jeff ....Goodbye Porkpie Hat...still blows me away...I have it and the Mingus original saved one after the other on my go to list. RIP Jeff Beck
I absolutely love Wired, with Blow by Blow being a close second, then followed by Truth!!! While I prefer his playing during the “pick” years from 1965 - 1982, I really respect and admire his sans plectrum playing, which is also extraordinary.

Well, I'm 67 now, and like you I still have that "blow by blow" vinyl up in my closet. I used to get buzzed with my buds, then come home around 1 or so in the morning, then crawl to my bed, strap on the headphones and carefully lay my needle on that LP and let it rip! Those were the days -- young folks just will never know what it's like to hear Jeff live, then a year or two later to have the album and freak out all over it in all its' analog glory. Jeff Beck was an era unto himself, and now the legend has passed. It's a damn shame to see him go. RIP Jeff, and yes, thanks for the memories.

Another person who was very important to Jeff was John McLaughlin. He encouraged Jeff to go it alone at a time when he was unsure about making his next move. Jeff rated John very highly as a guitarist, composer and mentor.

Jeff was my idol. I still can't believe he's gone,, my heart is just broken. He along with Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page& John May all were my favourite guitarists. It's so many great ones, but these touched my heart the most. I first saw Jeff with the Yardbirds, when I was around 11 yrs old. I know I was young, but my uncle& cousin had me listening to the great bands in the mid 60,s, and I followed Jeff his whole career. We lost one of the greatest guys ever. I will miss him so much. I'm so happy I have his albums& my videos I've recorded about him over the years, RIP sweet guy☮️💙🎸😢💔

jeff beck---what a talent, what technique,....after his passing i went back and re-listened to some of those early albums,.i must say i recognize the talent there, but-to me, beck really reached his zenith when he began more of the jazz-fusion stylings of blow by blow and wired,...thanks to tommy bolin for his influence in becks exploration into that style. bolin and beck were on tour when bolin unfortunately overdosed,....beck promptly hired bolin's band and finished the tour. rip jeff and tommy.......if there is a rock-n-roll band in heaven , the guitar section is covered well......
long time player here I was hooked the day I heard a flip side titled " Jeff's Boogie". From Truth to Ronny Scott"s, I couldn't start to pick an absolute fave. Caught him in downtown Manhattan and a stand up concert. Jennifer Batten played a perfect assist for him. Killer players
Trower has a sound and a style all of his own.I have only his live album. Too Rolling Stoned song he did the most frecious soloing and really let it all out. It didn't even sound like a Strat anymore.It sounded like it was yelling "put me down".He is definitely a player to be reckoned with as he is one of the greatest players ever to embrace the Strat and make every beginner run out and buy one!

Roy Buchanan was in 1960 ... where beck learnt alot of his tricks ... this guy talking knows shit .. roy wrote and played, my friend jeff .. and beck dedicated , s wonders song ... cause we ended as lovers to Roy on blow by blow .. Roy devoloped the volume swells etc first by 1960 ... Roy buchanan was the player the 60s greats like beck etc came to see play and learn off ... known as ... the worlds greatest unkown guitarist ...all these beck tribute people never mention how much roy influenced him ..
There are no words to describe just how much of a virtuoso and musical force of nature Jeff Beck really is. I say "is" because his works are numerous and will go on forever. The tragedy is we won't get to see him play in concert ever again. I understand how life works for us all-we know not the day or the hour, but as a guitarist and a dedicated admirer of Jeffrey Arnold Beck, I'm shattered. I love most all of his music, but "Wired" has amazed me since I bought it the first day it was released in 1976 and I put it on the turntable and was just astounded at what was going into my ears! It still excites me and commands my attention even today-A virtual masterpiece! There will never, ever be anyone even resembling or coming close to the Great Jeff Beck.

Blow By Blow - magnificent, and I remember the impact as a 20 year old back then. Not only Beck, but what a rhythm section! Later in my career, I was extremely lucky to work - and shake hands with - the genius George Martin.
Another great vid on another great artist. Saw him once with Bogert and Appice in 73 in Providence. Opening acts were Wet Willie and Paul Butterfield. Gone but never to be forgotten, RIP JB!!!!!
I'd guess that now, after his passing, a lot of players will begin incorporating elements of Beck's style of playing (especially his uniquely melodic use of the whammy bar). That's what happened, i.e., the copying, after Hendrix, and then, Eddie. In 20 or 30 years, it will likely become another somewhat routine aspect of guitar playing - like Eddie's tapping - and the impact of Beck, himself, will be lessened, to be fully appreciated only by old-timers remembering when he was in a Class of 1 (like me remembering the first time I heard, in jaw-dropping amazement, "Purple Haze" on the radio in 1967).
The more you learn about Beck the more you admire him. Had a incredible run, hope to see him someday...cheers
I met Jeff many years ago we talked Hotrods and hung out at a mutual friends house in Concord Ca Jeff was a serious Hot Rodder as well as a great guitar player I miss him like all of us do.

Definitely! Jeff doesn't take a backseat to no other guitarist. He kept growing and reinventing himself. He kept pushing himself and the guitar to new and wondrous sounds of magic

Roy Buchanan was a huge mentor to jeff and other 60s greats ... he had the volume swells etc down by 1960 and the most amazing tone ... all ghese guys never mention roy ... they should go learn somd music history and who followed who..

Jeff and Jimmy Page were tight yet loose, loosely tight, when Page was asked to replace Clapton in the yardbirds he recommended Jeff, but every one knows this, or should...for a short time they later shared lead guitar in the yardbirds, very cool..never knew about Jeff's medical problems, makes sense with all if his frustrations during his life...nothin worse than lingering head trauma...Of all the folks that he knew, it was jimmy Page who was asked to induct him into the rock n roll hall of fame...I'm pretty sure that says something...jeff beck, Jimmy's favorite guitarist and he will be missed...
l loved Jeff since The Yardbirds, and saw him in the Jeff Beck Group in 1969 with Rod Stewart in a small club in Toronto, continued to listen to him. Then out of the blue watching Rick Beato who did a video in October 2022 Why Jeff Beck is Uncopyable, and found Jeff was on Tour. I went to find tickets and bought 2 took my husband to see Jeff Beck play with Johnny Depp as a surprise guest. OMG I am so glad we went, Jeff was awesome. It was one of the best concerts i ever saw. I ran into my friend Rob Bowman there too. Then Jeff died suddenly a few months later. I felt like Id lost a good friend.
I enjoyed your tribute to the great Jeff Beck. Blow By Blow is also my favorite album of his. It's a masterpiece of an album with great material, performances, production, sound and sequencing.
No mention of Richard Bailey on drums for Blow by Blow? What Bailey did on those drums was mind blowing!
Well I didn't mention Middleton either. I guess I could have spent the whole 15 minutes talking just about that album and the recording, but I had to move on. It was such a great album with some of the finest players around on it for sure. Thanks for watching!

For soooooo many of us guitarists Jeff Beck was always way up front forging new directions and ideas..... chopping away with his six stringed "Machete" blazing new trails...a true "Explorer" who could and did posses a rare ability to Re-invent himself...while many others were just repeating themselves....Jeff always managed to stay upfront to continue to blaze a new guitar trail....A real "pioneer".....Thank you Jeff for being yourself
My favorite Jeff Beck album is "Truth." I bought it not long after it came out, and it blew me away. I've heard Jeff play with lots of lots of vocalists, and he and Rod Stewart were the perfect match.
I imagine Jeff was pretty humble, so he never said what is obvious.............. playing-wise, Jimi Hendrix couldn't hold a candle to him. Beck was so much more technically and musically advanced.
@@curbozerboomer1773 Hendrix was about showmanship, feedback and FX, but his playing was quite simplistic, actually.
Not much beyond pentatonic scales, when you listen to the notes he actually played.
Maybe Jimi would have become a better guitarist, but you are right, we will never know.
I'd also like to know how Duane Allman would sound if he had made it into his 40's and 50's, at least.
Again, we will never know.
In the late 60's BECK was doing a gig in Long Island, Rod had lost his voice and JIMI popped up on stage, and the rest of the show was JEFF and JIMI trading licks !!! JIMI throwing a YARDBIRDS lick at JEFF and BECK throwing a HENDRIX lick back at JIMI. Simply mind blowing !!!!!

I've always preferred the fresh, fizzy, lemon sorbet vibe of the Wired album which came directly after Blow by Blow. George Martin had slightly less guidance on Wired. But your explanation of how Jeff approached George Martin really makes me realise just how important that album and the Martin collaboration was.
So, he suffered two skull fractures and the crash which cut his nose??
Well from what I could find the first skull fracture he never elaborated on exactly how that happened. He was only 10 at the time. But the second one he said was in a car accident and the other one that cut his nose happened a few years after that. I believe that happened after Eric Clapton's 40th birthday party. I was given a copy of There And Back when it came out...played along with it for days till I knew every note. I still quote bits from it to this day...😎🎸👍
I went to a party with my older brother around 1972 when I was 15. I knew nobody there but I heard this amazing guitar sound coming from the other room so I went in to find a turntable playing Rough and Ready. It was like a den off of the back yard. Nobody was in there but me. I played the album at least three times and then bought it within a few days. I knew of him from the Yardbirds but this album really blew me away. He has remained one of my all-time favorite guitarists. His guitar turns into a human when he plays it. Like a gospel or blues singer. He was all about the melodies and the tonal nuances. A true artist.

The yardbirds were a favorite of mine way back & Jeff was in the middle of the best they did. From there on he became my favorite player. Always on the edge of what could be done w/guitar & he always had superior sidemen/women. On top of all that, ask anyone who knew him, the nicest chap ever. The GOAT will always be in my heart & his legacy will live beyond many of his peers. RIP

My favourite Jeff beck album is There and back
I've been following Jeff's career since late 1965 when he was in The Yardbirds. Jeff was the one who influenced me to play guitar. Though I cannot read music, I taught myself to play a lot of Yardbird songs back in the 60's. Jeff has always been my favorite guitarist followed by Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton during his Cream days, and Jimi Hendrix. I have all of Jeff's albums including some rare Japanese lps from the 1970's and I own some actual rare proofs of Jeff with The Yardbirds. My kids are grown up now. My wife and kids have seen Jeff live many times. Jeff did not tour much from the 1970's through the 1990's. Back in 1999 I made friends with Jennifer Batten. She was the one who pushed Jeff to tour more which he did. I actually promoted two private shows with Jennifer back in 2008 and 2010. She had some great stories about being in Jeff's band. He also taught her a few things and she sounds a lot like Jeff when she plays. I was devastated when I found out Jeff had passed. RIP Jeff!!! Thank you for the video.

Wired was the first Beck album I ever owned at it grew on me, it took a few months then I got truth or Beckola, but I always liked wired the best followed by blow by blow, and then the first two Jeff Beck group albums, and I got into the Yardbirds stuff for awhile and His late eighties was it Jeff Becks Garage? Really enjoyed the Beckology album hi highly recommend it if you like Beck. I don't know the bootlegs well enough to recommend which are goo which would have been good if recorded right and which ones he just wasn't having a great night. But it's true what Jimmy Page says that if you caught on the right night he was just the best live electric guitarist there ever was, and from some of the live stuff I've heard I gotta agree, I really love some the sounds he managed to conjure out seventies guitar technology and the totally new way he would play songs I knew so well. I really like the fact that every live performance I never knew what I was going to hear but it was going to be musical and possibly unorthodox but whether the performance was damn good , great, incredible, or only a few songs were unique I never seem to hear him play a bad note.
Homeboy!: You forgot to mention the two killer R&B Jazz-fusion albums that Jeff made with late killer-rock-drummer : Cozy Powell ,keyboardist : Max Middleton, Bassist 'Clive Chaman Vocalist :Bob Tench later of Hummingbird and Streetwalkers.
Both "Rough & Ready" and the Orange Album 'Jeff Beck Group are both classics Holmes! He he he !
Blow By Blow is my favorite too! I first heard it with some very hip friends I was hanging out with and was immediately in love with that record! Wired came next, and I will always welcome a Blue Wind howling across my speakers! Jeff's DVD, Live @ Ronnie Scott's changed my life AGAIN! I needed to be inspired at that time and the tears of joy were flowing!

RIP Jeff. I had the distinct honor of seeing the 1st Jeff Beck Group at the Fillmore West in San Francisco soon after the landmark “Truth” LP was released. Unforgettable performance, multiple encores. I’d never heard of Rod Stewart! The band was extremely tight. Jeff put on a show that made me think - at the time - he was the best of the best. Fast forward 54 years, my opinion hasn’t changed. Jeff’s playing, to quote Jimmy Page, “got better and better and better…” ❤
I have no words to describe Jeff Beck that has not already been written.I do know he was one of my favorite guitarist and I hold him in the same likes as Hendrix , Clapton , Page and Eric Johnson as my all time favorites. Blow by Blow is one of my favorites by Jeff as well. Jeff’s passing has reminded me to enjoy the remaining artists while they’re still here. RIP Jeff Beck , you will never be replaced or forgotten ! 🙏👍👏👋🎸
My introduction to Jeff Beck was Roger Waters' album Amused to Death. What God Wants part 3 has an end of the world guitar solo from Beck that I will never get over.
This was a tough loss for me. Been a devoted fan since 1965. I think there it is a dead tie between Blow by Blow and There and back.. Loved them both. Diamond Dust and the Final Peace are my favorite songs. Sorry to see you leave the party so soon, Jeff. Looking forward to meeting you in the here after soon, only not too soon.
Agreed. And a great biography! At 8 years old I had a 45 single of Heart Full of Soul. I followed Jeff until his death. Jimmy held my ears from 7th-9th grade. But then came McLaughlin & Corea. They've held my ears through adult life along with Jeff. He sleeps "the sleep of death." Not knowing his heart, and having never heard a single word of scandal or impropriety, I hope he found Grace and will continue playing for us through eternity.
My first Beck album was WIRED. It was the only album I put on the shelf next to my Hendrix albums. Loved him so much.
