- Jimmie Vaughan is a guitarist and the older Brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was one of the founding members of The Fabulous Thunderbirds who had the hit song Tuff Enuff. Here is a short video about him, his career and what he is up to today.

I love Jimmie Vaughan. He’s so great.
Got to see him live just recently at the Austin Blues Fest. Great show and a bonus was that he brought on Sue Foley and Soul Man Sam as guests.
All I can do is commend Jimmie on carrying on after Stevie’s death. There are parallels in Jimmie’s life to that of my own. I’m a musician and my younger brother was killed in 89’ and it gutted me. To the point I’d never chase my dream anymore because it was our dream. To look over my shoulder and not see my brother near by just iced the whole damned thing for me. Love Jimmie and love the fact that he’s done his best to carry on! Thanks R.D.
I saw Jimmie some years ago at a blues festival in downtown Springfield, IL. He blew us all away. His style is unique, and easily recognizable. One of the best.
My Dad turned me on to Jimmy Vaughan. Dad said he was one of the few "real" players. Never understood what he meant until many years later. Jimmy could do more with a Strat plugged direct into a tweed Fender than most players with a rack full of effects. See ya Sunday Doc!!
Yeah it takes time to get that understanding of guitar. It was the same for me. Take a Fender or Gibson guitar and plug directly into a Fender or Marshall amp and play. That tells the story.

Caught the Fabulous Thunderbirds opening for Chuck Berry back in the 70’s, in Denver. Love his guitar style.
Also lived @ the Hill country for years crossing paths @ Continental Club & C-boys.
Jimmies a sweetheart of a guy. Clapton selected Him & Tilt-a-whirl to open shows for him.

Jimmy was the biggest influence on Stevie Ray. Stevie said he would go watch Jimmy play at these clubs. Picked up so much from him that made him so great. Jimmy was great, underappreciated.

Dig it,another excellent video. Being from Texas,anytime the Vaughan brothers musical success is mentioned,my mind's eye also see's their brother from another mother standing right beside them. Actually,he had more influence over their "sound" than just about everyone else combined. Who is it,you may ask? Why,Doyle Bramhall,of course! Salute that Oak Cliff thang👍

I know some stuff but nothing thatvgreat, But I do want th mention Jimmy getting Jimmy Hendrix Wha Pedal JV opened & Hendrix ask Jimmy if he would trade pedals cause Hendrix Pedal stoed working! So Hendrix traded and lader gave the Wha to Stevie and said it's,,, so that's how SRV got Hendrix Wha pedal had it fixed and on his board, u most likely know that one brother!? I got to see him live once. Unfortunately, the damn set up crew screwed everything up and the sound kept cutting in and out. The volume was barely enough to hear. They really screwed his performance up, but Jimmy kept his cool even as his mic and guitar went silent over and over. I really wish that I could have heard a full set. He was very good.
When i lived in 0CEAN BEACH CALIF . ..i met KIM WILS0N but didnt know who he was...we became pool partners at BULLFR0GS ..sat in his fabulous thunderbird and smokwd one and then went back inside abd kicked ass on that table. Next time i saw him he was on C0NAN 0BRIEN filling in for D0C SEVRENS0N as the band leader with his harp and i was happy for him..
Jimmy and Stevie are completely different blues players. I saw Jimmy a few times in the 90's, people were thinking he would be like Stevie, he wasn't. Maybe Stevie would have gone more straight blues in his old age. We'll never know.

From what I’ve read Jimmie left the Thunderbirds because he was partying too much and to concentrate on making the Family Style record. Apparently there was a tour planned for that album. When Stevie died he apparently took an 18 month hiatus from playing.

Jimmie great guitarist in his own right. he looked different than stevie. he got to do a album with his brother that was nice.
I think Jimmie is unfairly compared to his younger brother Stevie. While both their styles are based firmly in the Blues, Jimmie plays more like the old Country Blues guys while Stevie was more reflective of contemporary Blues players + Hendrix. One is not better than the other, in my opinion, just different. I’ve enjoyed both. Glad Jimmie is still out there carrying on the tradition. He has lived the Blues!

I love Jimmy’s style of playin, he was great with the thunderbirds. Got to see the brothers together and a host of other top players at Alpine Valley in August of 98 Stevie stole the show even Eric Clapton said he had to pick his jaw up off the stage. I was so glad they made “The Family” album

Really I think of Jimmie only because of Stevie. Never cared for his picking. Just didn’t appeal to me. I had an opportunity to see him with Gary Clark jr. Was so let down by his playing. I don’t consider myself to be good at playing but after hearing Jimmie That night I felt a whole lot better about my playing. Him carrying on Stevie name and stories are commendable.
That is usually the case with Jimmie and SRV. Whether we try to or not it is a mental compare. That is why you were let down. And it isn't fair to any players really. Because there is just a small hand full of them who could stand up next to Stevie and shine with him, I've read where Jimmie and Eric Clapton both have said this, and I myself agree with them. Jimmie's playing style has really changed over the years, and maybe not always for the better, but trust me, back in the day he could really play. Check out the intro to 'Wait on time'. His style was far more authentic than Stevie, and he had beautiful, tasty phrasing. Give it a chance - sometimes things don't seem so impressive until you try to do it yourself, then you see the beauty in it.

I got the chance to see Jimmie Vaughan at the Kitchener Blues Fest in Kitchener Ontario, Canada a few years ago. The honest truth: the guy was terrible. He plays for about five minutes and then has someone else do the show for him. I don't think much of his playing. I know my comment will more than likely garner a lot of anger, and I'm sorry for that. I have no animosity towards Jimmie Vaughan.
No it's cool. And I don't allow angry comments on this channel, so don't worry about that. What I don't get is you said he only played for 5 minutes, then had someone take over for him. Was he sick? He had been having heart issues for quite a while. And the final question which I'm sure you're going to get here and need to answer is. How do judge someone as terrible after only hearing them play for 5 minutes?
This Festival and Jimmie Vaughan event, a festival that happens every summer in the town of Kitchener, took place approximately two summers before the covid lockdown. Jimmie Vaughan was presented with, I believe, a lifetime achievement award. He probably played about two or three numbers before leaving the stage. Perhaps he was unwell, I hadn't considered that; but I don't think so. I recall that at the time I was somewhat annoyed with him and with his playing. The person that replaced him was a young woman that I did not care to listen to. I had the idea that she might have been a young musician Jimmie Vaughan was sweet on and simply had her fill in for him. I strongly felt that Vaughan did not want to play. He was lazy. I have listened to Jimmie Vaughan a fair amount over the years. I liked his work with The Fabulous Thunderbirds and have the album, Family Style, he recorded with Stevie Ray Vaughan. Now, this is just me speaking; my opinion: I have never believed Jimmie Vaughan to be a good guitar player and I can be wrong about that. I really do not want to criticize him. I like him. I think that what has happened is that Stevie Ray acted as a kind of foil for Jimmie Vaughan. I have never heard any blues player as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was beyond good. He was a miracle. And, because the two were brothers, I personally believe that it was Stevie Ray's fame that rubbed off on his older brother, Jimmie.@@RiverDocs
If the festival you were talking about was summer of 2022 that was a very bad health year for Vaughan. He was playing gigs but was on his way to a major heart attack that winter. His health/heart issues started in 2013 he had a couple of minor attacks where they put in stents and things but 2022 was a bad year for him health wise so that could have been the case on the show you are speaking of.
I never thought Jimmie had much fame anyhow. He did as a blues player locally, but never nationally. Stevie brought blues to different level to the whole world! The Thunderbirds started to but when they broke nationally Jimmie quit, went back to Texas and played that old school blues he started out with. Why? I guess it's something inside of them...Johnny Winter...he did the same thing. Broke big nationally and didn't like it...went back to his roots and seemed happy with his playing then.
I get where you're coming from with Stevie. He was one of the most powerful blues players I ever heard. The only person I ever heard who could stand up to him live on stage would have been Rory Gallagher. They both played as Stevie described it "like breaking out of jail" But that's just my opinion.
But as far as terrible, naw I disagree with with you. Jimmie could play and had a great feel for the blues, especially that old school stuff. Those first 4 albums the Thunderbirds did before going mainstream with that Tuff Enuff had some really good playing on em. But again, that's just my opinion and we all have differences in them. The guy's 73 man - as I just explained to someone else, he was awesome years ago. "Wait on time" is all you need to hear to get an idea of what he was like live. That solo I learnt note for note, but I defy anyone to get the right feel that he plays with. Most just play it like Stevie would! You had to see him then to know. He was amazing.
Jimmie is killer and I actually prefer him to his most famous little brother although I loved their joint album Family Style. He KILLED with The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The HIPPEST player EVER!
You have to feel sorry for Jimmy. He would be a complete unknown but for Stevie.
And there would be no Stevie, without Jimmie.
Well, he was featured on a Santana record in '82, and the T-Birds had made 4 albums before Stevie had done anything so.......there's that. I kinda feel sorry for you.
I always liked Jimmy just a little better than Stevie! Not that I thought Jimmy was better?
Just appreciated his style a little more. His approach to the guitar was a bit more versatile,
than a lot of other guitar players? He had a unique style, different from his brother. But had
style like no other!
