Deftly avoids their chance to be a hero, and deliberately puts civilians in harms way. Unfortunately LAPD Union is so strong LA cops are almost never found responsible and legally liable for their actions, even when willfully negligent.

They had the van stationary several times, but preferred to use civilian vehicles to immobilise it and end the pursuit. Probably due to budget restrictions? Don't bang up the cop car whatever you do.
Yeah starting with letting the CHP take over. They definitely have more experience and skill with tactical driving. This just seemed like a bunch of LAPD street cops who decided to go along for the chase and hadn’t practiced any maneuvers since the academy.
Officers allowing them to go against traffic instead of blocking them in head-on seems on par for LAPD

Check out Arkansas State Police pursuits - they are much more aggressive and would have stopped this nonsense much sooner. They will PIT a car going 115 mph! I think in CA it has to be 35 mph or less.

Well, we are developed here with power poles and homes and concrete abutments everywhere as opposed to lots and lots of nature just off the asphalt.
LAPD and CHP - Hire Jacob Byrd of ASP to teach you how to PIT at any speed with desirable results within minutes! Also there is another APS trooper purposely drive head on to stop an escape car going the wrong direction in the interstate, so that other innocent drivers don't end up like here. I am not faulting the front line officers here but their senior management and politicians.
Now I need a back story. That was surreal!

I’m not sure why the cops had to follow that vehicle? They were so persistent. Other times when certain departments see that the persuit is dangerous they back off.

IDK, man. The cop had some reason to believe he'd be the only victim if he stayed put as she'd literally chased a couple cruisers earlier. Also, how would he know she wasn't going to just go down one of the two emergency strips? She'd been doing crazy stuff but suicidal? Things aren't always the simplest explanation. Why didn't the CHP driver block the van before it hit all those cars? Instead the highway patrol moved out of the way of the van, sad case of protect and serve.
No stop sticks when the vehicle is parked, just allow the dangerous driver to pull away and all PIT maneuvers were pathetic.
The decision to utilize a PIT shall only be authorized when the potential risk of intervention is outweighed by the imminent danger caused by the suspect and/or blatant disregard for the safety of bystanders and other users of the highway.
Unless exigent circumstances exist, the PIT shall not be attempted for the following:
The pursued vehicle is traveling in excess of 35 mph;
For a vehicle where the suspect(s) is known to be armed with a firearm;
Vehicles transporting known hazardous materials;
Significantly heavier vehicles (i.e. buses, motorhomes, semi-trucks); and
Vehicles with a high center of gravity;
The officers checked on drivers right away and asked them to stay put, a safety thing until they get checked out by medics

A coworker of mine was suspended for refusing to have a drug test when he was spotted by undercover police buying drugs from a street drug dealer in a company car when he returned to work that afternoon
when he came back after the 30 day suspension, they would not let him go out in the field to do his regular duties anymore. They didn’t know what to do with him, this guy was in his mid-50s, had a house and kids, he had over 27 years seniority..
at the end of the day for me, one day, I was, went to the bathroom to wash up, and he was in there. I asked him because I’ve known him for decades, I said, george, were you buying crack? He whispered, yeah.
I asked him “what’s it like?”
he looked up towards the ceiling, as though he was seeing a vision, and he had a big smile and he had that thousand yard stare in his eyes..
he said to me with that euphoric look on his face “joe, you gotta try it”
Within a year, he was fired, his wife left him, he lost the house.., And he was dead ..
I’ve seen so many of these incidents but there’s something about this one that really made me fear for that person in the head on before it ended. R they ok???

Referring to the fleeing suspect as a "wrong-way driver" is incorrect. They weren't an innocent person. They were a suspect. It looks like FOX 11 LA could be framing the pursuit as the cause of the crash, rather than the suspect's high speed being the cause, especially in the context of their fleeing (as this implies worse control of the car, greater recklessness). They've already done this. The suspect is the focus. The suspect crashed. The police aren't the focus.
