There is actually a Joke in Pokemon Sun and moon when you take a picture of a Pokemon you get a comment in game that says "7.8/ 10 too much water" that is a really funny easter egg.

Let's not forget the Dragon Quest 11 review where they mentioned that they skipped over all of the dialogue, and then went on to complain about the story.
I mean, I don't like DQ11 and consider the story to be pretty bad all things considered, but if they skip dialogue and then say the story is bad, that's on them, not the game.
was it the same person reviewing sticker star and color splash? If not, then that is perfectly fine. Lets say sticker star was given an 8 by the initial reviewer. The current reviewer of color splash has played both games, and thinks color splash is better...but thinks color splash is only a 7 on their scoring metric...and they would have gave sticker star a 6 had they been the reviewer of that game. So you are saying they should instead give a higher score to color splash than what they feel it deserves because some other random ign reviewer probably liked sticker star better than this reviewer did? That is utter nonsense. People need to get over 'scores' as the 'end all- be all' and just read the content of the review and use that to inform whatever they want to know. Most review sites are clear that it is just the individual reviewers opinion for that game.
But ign isn't an entity. There are different people reviewing games, so the dude reviewing cs thought it wasn't that good so he gave it a lower score and would have given an ever lower score to sticker star if he reviewed it
Overwatch was, at least I think, better when it was first released. But the bad balancing and overall how little fun I have right now just blows that Overwatch review out. By all means I don’t think it’s a bad game, but it definitely doesn’t deserve a 10. I’d probably give it either a 6 or 6.7
@@Hiya8partyz i've been playing the game for 3 years and i till play some matches and have a lot of fun, i don't play as much as before because of valorant and apex legends but i'd give it at least 7.5
There are a couple reasons for this. 1. It was probably a different reviewer so they will have a slightly different opinion. 2. Over Watch has definitely been updated so it's reasonable to believe it's a better game. 3. They don't do decimals in their scores anymore.
Overwatch at launch was a 9.5. Overwatch now, at least in terms of fun, has been ruined. Butchered by bad balance patches and pushing out too much content without fixing the old stuff. Now I'd give it probably a 5.5 in terms of fun. Also hot take, role queue is the worst thing to ever happen to comp.
IGN 8 years ago: Xenoblade chronicles 9/10 an excellent game in an aging system, a must play IGN now: Xenoblade chronicles definitive edition 8/10 well it’s fine just nitpicking and bias I win bye bye
rex abdurrahman I think they moreso reviewed how the game is as a remaster rather than as a game. They did the same thing with Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania plus (8.7 down to 7.0).
Xenoblade Chronicles Wii 9/10 Cons: "Graphically limited." Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition 8/10 "But the impressive graphical overhaul and quality of life improvements, make this the BEST version of Xenoblade Chronicles we ever had." IGN Wildin
However IGN made up for that. They quickly fired the guy, took down all his reviews and compensated the person he plagiarized. One of the only good things IGN has done but I do give them props for that. Plagiarism is the #1 crime for every journalist, no matter how different their opinions are
The thing about IGN just being an advertiser is completely true. They upload hundreds and hundreds of pages of walk throughs for games with absolutely nothing in them. So if you google a walk-through for a game, you'll probably find an IGN one right at the top. But click it and it's completely empty. It's just to get people clicking on the site for the advertisers. Needing ads to make a living is one thing, but tricking people into clicking just to get more ad revenue is completely different.
The hell you mean, I've always gotten info. I just can't stand it when any walkthrough or answer I'm looking up is a wall of text and no (helpful) picture whatsoever. There's only so much I can fill in the blanks and imagine without a pic for better context before it stops making sense. That shrine near the master sword in botw? Had to look the answer up twice because the first time, the wall of text and how they worded it and lack of a helpful picture just confused me more than it should've. Second time I looked it up, going to a different site, IGN explained it better and had a pic to help; turns out I was on the right track in figuring out the shrine, so I didn't feel (as) foolish when I saw how simple the answer actually was. Just over thinking like those problems teachers would far too rarely throw your way that make you feel dumb because your critical thinking has been pushed for too many years and you forgot how a child thinks and would answer.
I just want to point out the irony in this statement: IGN: Team AQUA has too many water types. THEY ARE CALLED TEAM AQUA. THAT IS LITERALLY THE POINT. Also not to mention that they worship a water type Pokémon.
Even though it is one of the best remakes currently. My only complaint about is how late into the game you get the GBC soundtrack item. If that was available at the beginning, I seriously wouldn't have any major complaints. Just very minor nitpicks.
I'm just remembering that time IGN gave Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia a 7.8/10 score partially because you couldn't pair Celica up with Saber. Really, IGN?
Meh. It's been 10ish years, I think the battle to keep Seven a secret is long over. Five years, I think is the limit for avoiding spoilers. After the five year mar it's a matter of personal courtesy, and with a Wii U port and a 3Ds port plus this Remaster and multiple cross-overs and cameos into other games, I think mid-game spoilers are kind of out the window by now. It was a bad move by IGN to feature it in their review where new players are likely to see.
@@bretginn1419 yeah, but in Smash, the game was old, but with IGN, they are reviewing THE NEW game and the review is meant to guide new players that haven’t play the game and want to know if they should play it.
“Hidden moves commonly referred to as HMs” I just find that so funny that she thinks she knows what HM stands for but doesn’t care enough to look it up.
I get this one though. I thought it was Hidden Move because that males sense. Just looked it up and you're right though. Why is it called Hidden Machine? And anyway IGN should know sense reviewing the game is their job. How are we supposed to respect your review if you can't even get the term right?
Yeah well, you know what they mean. And people complain about their nitpicking. Also Zero defended HMs and everyone hates them. I can totally understand if they didn't like that they didn't replace HMs. But the fact that they said "too much water". Damn
This game is less than good, the ending felt rushed, the paths feel like they are there just so the developers can say there are different endings. The artstyle and music are also not outstanding, and the multiplayer mode feels as if it was slapped it at the end minute. But it has a little something for everyone, 10/10
@Lune saying that Sonic is overrated is one thing, but acting like Sonic was NEVER good is completely different! Like there has to be a reason why Sonic is still somewhat relevant to this day.
@Lune Sonic 2 is great, 1 is pretty overrated, haven't played 3, but none of them are bad. Adventure is where I first have actual problems, with how slippery and twitchy it feels.
As a voice over actor myself, I can tell you that most of us have a home studio. The voice overs in a lot of videos that you will see on youtube and other websites are outsourced to someone like me. A lot of the time I have no actual interaction with the person (or their product) other than them sending me a script and me sending them back an audio file. Purchasing a voice over these days can be really quick and cheap, especially with so much new talent fighting over offering the lowest cost possible, so often buyers go for that rather than focusing on quality and direction :/ Not sure how ign does their voice overs but that's just my 2 cents.
To be fair, a lot of the names are pronounced completely different than they are spelled and you would think someone would quality check the video before uploading it. And a lot of the mess ups were by whoever wrote the script, not just the audio, I dunno if you've played the game but if you have, you'll know the crazy level of incompetence with this "review".
Unfortunately, IGN actually taps their most well known and upfront employees and “personalities” for the voiceovers because a lot of people will immediately recognize them. In this case it’s Brian Altano who is a very established IGN personality and comedian. They have the talent and have shown to do this all in house within their studios and offices, but they’re literally just that disconnected
IGN: gives xenoblade chronicles a "9.5" also IGN: gives xenoblade chronicles definitive edition an "8" this is why I never trust IGN with their reviews and I don't care if it's a different reviewer they would've known better
I don't think they can be faulted TOO much for that. It's a remaster. Games generally get better over time as a rule of thumb, so it's not unreasonable that the same game would be reviewed worse when being compared to it's competitors in a different time. Not defending anything they actually said though.
The gaming landscape today is not the same as what it was when XC1 first came out. Something that may have seemed unique or innovative back then could be seen as tedious and overdone by today's standards.
Being a great and innovative game in the past doesn't mean it still is in the future. Smash Bros for N64 was amazing back in the day. A remaster of it would still be painfully tedious to slog through nowadays though regardless of any minor tweaks and graphics overhauls.
@jesus barrera and it is a completely different person reviewing the game. It is that reviewers opinion. If they think the game is an 8, that is the score they should give. They shouldn't give it a 9 or 9.5 because they need to make sure it has a higher score than what some other person gave it a decade ago. Maybe the current reviewer would have given xenoblade a 7.5 so giving the DE an 8 is right in line with his opinion.
@@MegaPokefan97 No. 4/10 is for games that are barely functional with massive problems. Overwatch works, has some good characters and good maps. This jab on repeating the "change the future" line is so dumb. This is an important plot element, so of course characters will talk about it many times over the course of the story. Changing the future is Shulk's unique ability and it's how he and his party survive many battles. You can't have players memorize key aspects of the story AND the gameplay in a 100-hour game without emphasizing them.
You can’t talk about bad video game reviews without talking about IGN’s infamous ORAS Review with the game having “Too Much Water”. It was so widespread, that the reference even appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon as one of the comments when taking pictures on the Rotom Camera.
It honestly wasn't even a bad review, people are just so lazy they clicked to the end of the video, saw "too much water" and got pissed off. Water in the Pokemon games imo is actually super boring to traverse, you have to buy a lot of repels or else it's just Tentacool after Tentacool and the route designs aren't even that interesting. Plus most people think HMs suck too, and they were removed the very next generation to tons of praise.
@@NCozy yeah but like if something as insignificant as that not to mention in context of ORAS it makes complete sense for it to be an actual con, it's pretty stupid
@@NCozy If that's the case, then they should properly explain what is wrong with water. In the review, they basically just said "navigating bodies of water is tedious" without explaining WHY it's tedious. They should have said something along the likes of "the water areas have a very limited amount of Pokemon compared to the land areas, and aesthetically they get stale since they all look the same. This makes them tedious in the long run." and the bullet point at the end should say "water areas lack variety in aesthetics and pokemon types" instead of just "too much water". But no, IGN has to shit out a review as fast as possible, making the script poorly worded and the video as a whole pathetically short. Seriously, it's only 3 minutes long, and one minute is spent on the intro. 2 minutes isn't enough to form coherent arguments for a whole game. And for the record, I agree that water areas in ORAS are tedious and boring. That doesn't change that the review is shit.
@@25ased I would agree but the video was 3 minutes long. It's not intended to be a deep critical analysis, it was intended to be bite sized thoughts. If I wanted something more in depth I'd watch other channels. And most of the criticism regarding the video isn't that it wasn't well explained it was 'LOL IGN said too much water like isn't the Earth 70% water' or 'LOL, is IGN seriously complaining about HMs, have they played any other Pokemon game?' Like it's as if they again, skipped to the end of the video saw the cons and complained
I remember the Alien Isolation review. Alot of it's criticism was that the AI was so difficult to deal with. But the point of the game is too outsmart the AI. Criticizing this kind of game mechanic by saying it's too hard screams "Im not smart and don't play games often, I played for 15 minutes"
"do not harass anybody" I certainly don't support harassment, but I also don't support the continued insinuation that if you don't have an explicit anti-harassment statement in a criticism video that you're somehow responsible for it.
The problem is that regardless how responsible the person is, there is a risk of some viewers going to harass. Some would be harassers won't if they think their going against the youtuber's wishes. It's stupid that it even needs to be said, but I do think it's a necessary damage control step to take to avoid the strange fanaticism that can arise.
@@raphaelhemery152 the people who are going to harass others will do it regardless of whether you disclaimer your video or not, and the people who are thick enough to think that critiquing something is tantamount to incitement will hold you responsible despite your best efforts. When you have a platform as big as Zero has, it makes sense to cover your bases and acknowledge that what you say can easily influence people. He didn’t have to put out that disclaimer but it was the responsible thing to do. Maybe if the gaming community was better about not doing this sort of thing, he wouldn’t have to but yeah... they aren’t.

They probably are talking about the Legendaries and there are secret dungeons. ORAS has a pretty good Post Game. And HGSS just copy pasted the Battle Frontier from Platinum and yet people call that the best Pokémon game soo.
@Zane Asadi yeah but Kanto took like 5 hours to beat. Honestly Kanto isn’t as big as people make it out to be. Like the Island in Platinum is almost as long and has almost the same amount of content. Like I really love HGSS but I don’t think that It’s the best thing ever.

@@weberman173 I'll give you that, but all these water sections were in the original RS too. So why complain about too much water in ORAS, but then the original games get away with it? Also too many HMs, but ORAS have one less than the original RS
IGN: You spend alot of time with Melia, one of the weaker characters from the main campaign. Literally the entire Xenoblade community: So you have chosen... death.
Dan Stapleton is the Executive Editor of IGN. When you look at the sheer amount of inconsistencies and oversights that have occurred under his watch it really isn't surprising that these things continue to happen. Filip, the RE2 review, The Silent Hill Collection review(since deleted), Evolve review, Alien Isolation review, DOOM review, Battlefield Hardline review.. the list goes on. You get the point. The majority of the reviews he has written himself are absolutely hilarious as well. This isn't even to speak of the way he chooses to interact with users in the comment sections, he is so incredibly sensitive to criticism it is laughable.
I would give IGN a little bit of credit with Filip because once that shit got outed, they thoroughly and I mean thoroughly *canceled* his ass. That's what that term needs to be used for, people who have it coming to them, not random people's utter nonsensical hatred of good people.
What laughable is people getting triggered over a review they dont like. Its one persons opinion. Personally I agreed that Alien: Isolation was mediocre. A lot of gamers disagreed, but only 7% of gamers actually finished the game. I would take those opinions with a grain of salt.
I think the issue is there's so many differnt reviewers that if you criticise something that's a staple of games like hidden moves for example. Comments will be like well that's what to expect in these games dont get a reviewer who doesn't like these games to review them. But if you're just one person with a chammel reviewing games your reviews are consistent in line with their likes. Like ah this person we know doesn't like turn based rpgs but he somehow likes this ones maybe that means it's actually good. You can get more out of a review when you understand the taste of the person reviewing it which you can't get out of a faceless coorperation who uses different reviewers all the time. That also invalidates their own rating system as everyone rates differntly. Best game reviews i ever got was from totalbiscuit and man only did first impressions. Rip john.
It seems the general public doesn't understand the concept that they have different reviewers reviewing games. I saw plenty of complaints that the reviewer said xenoblade DE was better than the original, but they gave it a lower score than what the WII and 3ds got. I guess they just expect the current reviewer to artificially inflate his review score so it matches in line with what some IGN employee thought a decade ago. The best thing would be to do away with the stupid scores and let the text speak for itself. As you say though, scores work much better if you are able to have the same person consistently reviewing things.
"HMs are a core mechanic of Pokemon games." *Laughs in SwSh* (Not that it's a good thing, I actually dislike how little reason there is to go back to old places to be able to access different things.)
sun and moon struck a good balance by having a good amount of roadblocks while at the same time assigning them all to one key item. @@cooldumpy7913 yeah the reason people don't like HMs is because they take up move slots on your Pokemon, and they have been trying to move away from forcing them for progression since B/W. Putting them on key items instead of moves is definitely the way to go.

They gave Overwatch a 10 in 2020.... more than when it released when it was 9.4
Overwatch was, at least I think, better when it was first released.
The IGN review is good 8/10 be cool.

@@Sargeofj00 yeah if you want to blame IGN for anything in that scenario it would be how long he did it for without them catching him.

*They* fired his ass
Omg true
Yo I just thought that there was something wrong with my browser omg
I just want to point out the irony in this statement:
IGN: Team AQUA has too many water types.
THEY ARE CALLED TEAM AQUA. THAT IS LITERALLY THE POINT. Also not to mention that they worship a water type Pokémon.
funnily enough, team flare has too little fire types
“Too much water” was also iconic lol

@Lune no worries! You're totally entitled to your opinion.
Purchasing a voice over these days can be really quick and cheap, especially with so much new talent fighting over offering the lowest cost possible, so often buyers go for that rather than focusing on quality and direction :/
Not sure how ign does their voice overs but that's just my 2 cents.
They have the talent and have shown to do this all in house within their studios and offices, but they’re literally just that disconnected

also IGN: gives xenoblade chronicles definitive edition an "8"
this is why I never trust IGN with their reviews and I don't care if it's a different reviewer they would've known better
Joe Sullivan but the reviewer said it was better and they added a decent amount of content to the game pls don’t defend IGNorant

You can’t talk about bad video game reviews without talking about IGN’s infamous ORAS Review with the game having “Too Much Water”.
It was so widespread, that the reference even appeared in Pokemon Sun and Moon as one of the comments when taking pictures on the Rotom Camera.
I remember that! That was freaking hilarious!
"the goomba kills me in one hit in the first level!? Jeez guys save some difficulty for later LOL"
Clearly those people are to weak. Among other possibilities.
"do not harass anybody"
I certainly don't support harassment, but I also don't support the continued insinuation that if you don't have an explicit anti-harassment statement in a criticism video that you're somehow responsible for it.
Rip john.
Who John
@@prestononuselogu9973 John is Totalbiscuit's first name in real life.
I believe that's a point dunkey made in his video about video game critics

*Laughs in SwSh*
(Not that it's a good thing, I actually dislike how little reason there is to go back to old places to be able to access different things.)
sun and moon struck a good balance by having a good amount of roadblocks while at the same time assigning them all to one key item. That's what they should use moving forward, (especially if they remake sinnoh, however unlikely that is, given how many HMs are in those games) but knowing gamefreak they just make it even worse than it is now
@@cooldumpy7913 yeah the reason people don't like HMs is because they take up move slots on your Pokemon, and they have been trying to move away from forcing them for progression since B/W. Putting them on key items instead of moves is definitely the way to go.

For those who have not played Xenoblade chronicles Definitive edition!
Do not watch IGNs review of Definitive edition. They straight up spoil the identity of Seven in their video. IGNs review is really bad and poorly made
I'll give them the tiniest of passes if only because literally every fucking gaming company seems to throw Seven in your face.
Project X Zone, Smash *twice* and Sakurai had the gall to put said Smash image of Seven on his Twitter *ONE HOUR BEFORE THE REMAKE RELEASED.*
It's weird because Sakurai physically stopped himself from spoiling why Byleth has a hair color change, but he'll be like *HEY HERE'S SEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN.* Why? Why even? I'm scared what'll happen if he makes up for Rex because he's gonna just spoil the entire second half of 2 if he gets in.
@@UltimaKeyMaster To be fair, there is a difference between spoiling a 10 year old game and spoiling a game that's only been out for a year.
If you haven't played it yet, that's on you. (Also, personally, I don't see Seven's reveal to be a grand masterpiece of a reveal.)

I have never seen IGN's critic videos. Otherwise they do good stuff. Love their "Developers react to speedrunner" series
Gamer_ Plasmy they make generally really bad reviews that don’t make sense like they’ll talk up a game as if it’s almost perfect and then give it an 8
People overreact to how bad their reviews are. Honestly most people don't give a shit and just skip to the score and if they agree the video gets liked and if they disagree the video gets disliked. It's really stupid, I honestly watch a lot of reviews to get the general consensus before I buy stuff and I don't mind seeing stuff that's negative because usually it helps bring you to a greater understanding. The Pokemon review is a good example, most people skipped to the end, saw too much water and 7.8 and just made jokes when honestly traversing the water is usually very tedious if you don't have a repel and the HMs were removed the following generation and everyone touted it as an amazing change. No more devoting part of your team to be an HM slave, no more wasting move slots on shitty moves like cut and rock smash.
Yeah they’ll probably say it makes me feel like Shulk
AngryNerds100 I agree I just think they need to explain there points better and two small enough problems with a game shouldn’t make it a 7.8

Probably the worst IGN review I’ve seen are the ones for the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. They aren’t necessarily perfect games, but IGN completely shits on these games, and for the Explorers reviews, it’s kinda obvious that they didn’t play most of the game.
