In Denmark we preserve kale by chopping it finely, blanching it and then freezing it. Then you can thaw it and cook it in heavy cream and eat with (glazed) ham and potatoes.
Try using the holes in your colander (or something similar) to de-stem your herbs/flowers. Just stick in and pull through. I believe that you can make a tea with the strawberry tops.
Love that idea of strawberry jam. Just curious what the chugging, train on a track, sound is in the background? Freezer dryer? My dad gifted us all rhubarb plants from his original 70 year old plants. So when I make rhubarb preserves I think of him. He passed at age 96! ❤ I’m going to make the barbecue sauce. I love your channel.
Just ordered the freeze fresh book!!! I love your videos. I can watch your videos all day. Very informative and relaxing. I’m learning a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Ohhhhhh I so wish I get strawberries this year. Our spring has been so hot and dry and most of my fruit dried up or the blossoms shriveled. But it will be ok. I made the rhubarb bbq sauce last year but wanted it a little more savoury so added smoked paprika and it turned out so smokey and nice, great video, thanks for sharing. 🌷🇨🇦
I enjoyed seeing these ideas. One recipe to try: when you add sugar to strawberries add some sour cream (Romanian style 😊). Let it sit to make the juice and enjoy! Super yummy.
I always learn things here, love your videos. Inprobably missed it but another strawberry use is in smoothies. Every Sunday in our house is smoothie day. I use flash frozen strawberries that I bag in quart bags. Also frozen blueberries and bananas, milk, homemade yogurt, spinach or kale, ground flaxseed and maple syrup to sweeten. They are sooo good! I’ve also added frozen strawberries to pancake batter and made sheet pancakes. I also mash some berries with sugar and freeze for shortcake or ice cream. You can use jam to sweeten baked oatmeal too. ❤️🙏🏻Val C
Seeing your strawberry harvest excites me! I just planted 78 strawberry starts from Johnny's selected seed this year, After watching your videos, I decided not to pick the blossoms, instead plan to enjoy the minimal first-year harvest. I do look forward to canning strawberry jam, and freeze drying or freezing some as well,. My first strawberry is just starting to turn red!! Feeling blessed to you have found you here on utube. Thank you for all you share.
Those strawberries are gorgeous! thanks for sharing these recipes, my grandma used to make jam this way with no pectin, I remember she used to throw halved apples and oranges in the pot with the fruits and sugar and take them out when jarring!
Great video! I’m going to need to get that freezing book. Everything you did looks so delicious! I will definitely be doing that jam recipe. Looking forward to your next one! Have a blessed day.
I had considered making the victorian BBQ sauce but was not sure how it would turn out. Having seen you make it, it will be on my list for spring, if the rhubarb co-operates.
I just ordered the Freeze Fresh book, I hope you’re an associate with Amazon 😊 I’m going to have some rhubarb left so I’m excited to try the sauce recipe in the book. I have not grown kale but would like to give it a go then freeze dry it, also specifically for tossing into soup or adding to lasagna etc. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for the video! God Bless You.
I am, thank you!!! The Rhubarb sauce was a special treat I have tucked away for myself. I’m on an anti inflammatory diet right now to clear up some health issues so I’m unable to eat anything I harvest which is a big bummer. I’m especially looking forward to all my preserves this year! Blessings friend ❤️
I love preserving stuff. I just got me a brand new nine tray Excalibur dehydrator and I was sooo happy when it arrived. It was expensive as heck, but I used my other old one all summer for years and it was truly a work horse. I was actually considering a freeze dryer, but it’s only me on this old homestead so the cost didn’t make sense to me for me alone. I am looking forward to making some mustard pickles and some green tomato relish, or otherwise known here in Canada as chow chow. I also want to try my hand at putting up potato and tomatoes. I love getting ready for the winter. I made some garlic scape pesto for the freezer and dried some herbs.❤❤ I just love your videos and the fact that you put your hair up when you are in the kitchen lol. Have a lovely weekend.
A dehydrator is a great option for preserving too! I don’t find myself using it much now that I have the freeze dryer but before it was used often. I love all the things you’ve been preserving! I think I might make some garlic scape pesto too today! Enjoy your weekend ❤️❤️
While watching I put away rose petals I dehydrated for tea recipes and started cilantro in the dehydrator for soaps. I’ve been freezing harvests, but my most stinky is garlic. I’ve filled 4 gallon baggies with crushed garlic mixed with olive oil in baggies for the freezer and frozen containers of pesto for winter dip. It’s rainy here too today so I’m filling tea bags with herb mixtures I’ve created from lessons I learned from an herbal course I took last year.
Cilantro in soap?! I’m intrigued. Everything sounds lovely, I’m very much interested in making some herbal tea blends. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend ❤️
@@seedandsparrowhomestead My daughter told me cilantro smells like soap so I jokingly made a few bars of cilantro goats milk soap for her. Apparently everyone loves it so now it’s a favorite Christmas present
I have that book in my Amazon cart. I do a lot of dehydrating unfortunately no freeze dryer yet in my life. I did leave my kale all together them ground them up. Great video again dear.
We're excited to can zucchini relish and zucchini salsa again this year! We love a chunky salsa, and zucchini salsa is amazing. We do zesty and dill zucchini relishes and NEED them to always be in the pantry 😂
❤ the backyard garden.
Thank you ☺️

GREAT IDEAS FOR STRAWBERRIES AND RHUBARB. I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT BARBEQUE SAUCE. IT LOOKS VERY TASTY.

I’m going to have to get the freeze fresh book! Sounds awesome 👏🏻
Also… tax return is how we got our freeze dryer too 😅 best decision!
It’s a great resource! Also gotta love tax return, it has turned into “what does the homestead need” 😂
You can use kale stems in stir frys!
Good tip! These went to the chickens ☺️
I’m going to try the rhubarb bbq sauce, tweaking it with a tsp of bourbon per pint😊
Enjoy! Thanks for watching ☺️

Your apple and strawberry jam sounds amazing but you do knowcthat you can make old fashioneed strawberry jam, dònt you ? 19:00
Have you ever tried chia jam? I have been wanting to try it and just freeze it in patches since I don’t can things (a skill I haven’t gotten into yet)
Interesting! I haven’t heard of that but I’m intrigued!
Hi

Do you dehydrator if can not afford freezer dryer
