How about the time when most of a sheriff department failed their psych exams so they just got decked until they could pass and receive help on passing?
@SparkWithGavin Cops regularly make $150k+ with massive union pensions. They have built in OT and abuse the fuck out of it. Don't kid yourself into thinking cops are poor.
12 years for killing an innocent bystander in her own home , that’s a slap on the wrist , life without the possibility of parole would have been the way to go .
This was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. She was sitting in her own home and instead of knocking, he basically is the threat he was called for. And it took 3 years for a verdict to be reached. Outrageous. He should never have been hired!

There is no pass/fail grade on those. Also, EEO would have a field day if anyone was ever denied a job due to a "treatable" mental illness. They are just checking for emotional stability. Yes, a rather vague term, but it is defined under the current DSM
Every time he went silent, he's boiling inside. Because it's impossible for a narcissist to admit they're wrong. Hence the silence, he literally can't.
Between her and Botham Jean, yes. He was sitting on his couch eating ice cream when Amber Guyger was drunk, broke into his apartment, and shot him dead.
@@khaliqmurray7334 the situations are not comparable. In the Taylor situation, the police had a warrant to enter the residence. In the Taylor situation, they were fired upon before returning fire.
LOL. Those slobs almost always weasel out of these things. They'll take the credit for big drug busts their underlings carry out, but when it comes to them committing crimes, they had zero to do with it. LOL. Crap supervision.
They can’t be more responsible than he personally is. However they should’ve known that this was likely something he was capable. Even months later and self reflection of the entire event, he still gave himself a B for a grade. He took the life of a completely innocent woman who in no way threatened him, his partner, or anyone else.
The fact that he failed a psych exam and still got employed within a department speaks volumes as to the abhorrent state of policing in America. They literally will take anyone.
No they won't literally take anyone. They don't want ppl with high IQ. They have low standards for a reason, ppl with personality disorders will back up other ppl with personality disorders.
for one bad officers are allowed to move from district to district by just quitting before any investigations start, second because there is NO federal data base for ALL licensed police officers in the USA, 3rd even IF there was such a data base there most likely wouldn't be any deterrents for NOT registering these officers, in many states there are such data bases but chiefs rarely place other officers in it and they face NO repercussions for this failure to act
when i was 12 years old I was jumped by five grown men with baseball bats and was left in a coma and came inches from death and half of my skull is now titanium and only the ringleader was caught and he plead guilty and all he served was 1½ years
The police department has opened up a HUGE lawsuit by even hiring this guy. They knew before they hired him that he was a huge risk. His psych evaluation told them as much before they hired him. This murder is ultimately on them.
In Selbyville Illinois a detective failed a psychological evaluation he didn't get hired he went to Coles County a neighboring town and the P.D. hired him.
They hire the psychopaths with intent, that monkey who murdered Tamir Rice was also said to have failed the psychological evaluation. When they went over it after the murder they said no one should have ever given him a gun, but he sure did not even lose his job after the incident. It's all about a white black thing, this is amerikkka.
Did you hear the story about the 27 cops at one Department that had their badges taken?. All 27 failed the psych test. Then 3 years later somebody of authority read the psych tests and these guys were put on desk Duty. Can you imagine even when they fail the psyc test, they give them a gun and a badge and authority to go out and ruin people's lives, unbelievable.
I like how he admitted on the stand that he did pretty much everything wrong what he could possibly do wrong and still concludes with "I did a fine job!"
There should a National Police Oversight Committee in charge hiring of all police officers. If you have a candidate for a position as a police it should require an in depth background check, physiological and psychological assesment, and a complete reference investigation with personal interviews of those references. Then and only then can the candidate be submitted to the committee for approval. No badge, no gun, no official duties until you are emitted a license to be a police officer from the national policing committee.

Absolutely NO EMOTION what so ever! This is disgusting! Where do they get these guys? As fast as he answered yes , no problem, killing someone was a huge red flag and now an innocent victim is dead! WTF!
The greatest threat to officers is how they're trained. When you are told multiple times daily that everyday can be your last, when you're told that everyone is a suspected criminal, when you're trained that the use of 'deceptive tactics' is just part of your job, when you know that there is a 99% chance that you're colleagues will stand by and back your statements, when you're trained infinitely more on how qualified immunity works than the law this will continue to happen. What costs more, the costs of body-cams/dash-cams which protect all parties or civil lawsuits? Lawsuits are why police budgets are so inflated. We, Americans, need to stop paying law enforcement to harass and harm civilians.
The most remarkable thing about this video is that it is so incredibly rare to see a prosecutor vigorously prosecute a cop. We've seen plenty of cops on trial where the prosecutor just barely did his job and in such a way as to make conviction nearly impossible.
I think the prosecutor did a great job during the trial. However. It took way too long to levy charges on Dean. DA only charged him because of public pressure. And then I think the DA fucked up in jury selection. Atatiana's family was extremely upset that not a single black juror was chosen. The DA went with an older, white skewing jury in Texas for a case about a murdered black woman. I think the reason the jury went with manslaughter over murder was possibly because of prejudice.
@@johnk8048Where was it said that an all black jury would’ve been better? The issue was that there were no POC in the jury. In Texas, in a case about a murdered black woman, an all white jury could have even ended in a not guilty verdict if this case wasn’t as cut and dry.
I think they hired him, because he's stupid. Smart people are not welcome, because they are harder to indoctrinate. They actually have case law allowing police departments to discriminate when hiring cops based on IQ so they can rule out smart people, and they fought very hard to get that. That would be illegal in Norway. The government is obligated to hire the best qualified individual here.
Most Policing probably needs to become like Jury Duty. You get a summons to serve your community for a month as some sort of community peace keeper and protector. You get screened at the muster point for reasons you can't be one then you and a professional officer are paired up and you go out with them. Your job to watch that they treat people with courtesy and respect and follow policies for interactions. Like a living bodycam or something. Your there for the citizens, not the cops. This video makes me so angry, not because of the guy with the gun, but the negligence of the people who gave it to him. They just hire whoever and deal with the consequences later. Humanity is in such a pitiable state.
that tends to be a recurring trend in the american justice system. if you followed the parkland shooter case, you'll see how fucked it is. there's so many others but because of how tragic that was, it stands out. almost every possible red flag and warning were given to the teachers, parents, police, psychiatrists, psychologists, and FBI and NOTHING was done. everyone just went with it and decided to deal with the consequences, and well, they got their answer for being negligent.
They just hire anyone because nobody in their right mind wants to be a cop nowadays because of all the hate, negative rhetoric, and being painted badly in the press. They also aren’t given as much slack anymore. How do people not realize that when you do this to police, it only hurts yourselves in the long run. It equals less cops, more crime and emboldens criminals. I hope people that hate cops are proud because they are going to see an enormous increase in crime of all kinds.

Police work attracts a disproportionate number of NPD. It's almost a qualification for the modern policing system that an officer easily rejects social norms and shrugs off failures of personal responsibility.
@@trevorodell5564 Narcissists are attracted to careers in the entertainment industry, including professional sports, politics, the medical field, and law enforcement. Those professions are socially high profile, garnering much public attention, and involve power and control, over the fate, or well being of others. This is a prime example of why interacting with the police, in almost any situation, can result in death, or serious bodily, or social harm to someone.

He gave himself a B grade on this as well. It's absolutely insane. And worst of all whole country's police works by the same rule: "We investigated ourselves and found us innocent"
Him using the word "verbiage" was condescending and is very telling of what he thinks of police policies and procedures that he swore to uphold when he was hired. ver·bi·age definition: speech or writing that uses too many words or excessively technical expressions.
Imagine how the neighbor must feel. He called bc he had some level of concern for his neighbor’s well being, only for her to be murdered by the people he called to check on her.
You understand with the defund the police movement the good cops left so they have a limited higher pool. Example is Philly is waving so much due to needing cops so bad.
Damn right. It should be flat out ILLEGAL to hire someone who fails their psychological exam, no "judgement calls" allowed. And what is more, he should have been fired for the "non consensual" contact he was reported as having had with a woman. I suspect that is a euphemism for sexual assault.
The neighbor said the door was open for hours, and the cops though the burglary was in progress? Do these genius detectives think burglars hang around for hours?
Well, I can see the concern because a person could be dead or hurt inside. But you are right. We're the burglars sitting around eating sandwiches or playing video games? Ridiculous
@@Tracey777 except, he didn’t say that his fear was that someone was dead. He said that he was under the impression that there was a burglary in process. The prosecutor didn’t make that up lol that was HIS defense.

Yeah, WTF is up with her nosey assed "neighbor"...So her inside door is open, so what? If he's so concerned, why not walk across the street to check? Instead, he calls the assassination squad on the Non Emergency line? Something doesn't sound right; I bet he was beefing with her over her friends parking in front of his house, or how often she mowed her lawn, or some such nonsense. I have no doubt he was trying to jam her up by calling the Cops - this MF'er lives in Texas - he knows what time it is....
12 years for killing a person in their own home. Seems like the prosecution was more upset that he let his partner walk into potential danger, than the woman who was killed. 12 years was a slap in the face. If the shoe was on the other foot, and she shot a cop, she’d be facing the death penalty. It’s sad that nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to the blatant unfairness.
I absolutely agree with you about the horrifying double standard. I think the prosecutor was ensuring the defendant couldn't make the claim that he shot that woman out of fear for his and his partner's lives because he took *no other steps* to protect their safety. I can't begin to understand how or why he only got 12 years.
Could ask the same of the coward who called. It's your neighbor, go knock on the door and see what's up. If not then stay the fk out of it completely, don't call armed thugs because you think they are "authorities" on dealing with life.

You got that right it is why did the neighbor call and say the door was open I don't think he was really concerned it was none of his business but it's gotten to in the US that you can't open your door you cannot do anything this is not a free country anymore false 911 calls should be stopped and a way to stop them if someone calls 911 and I investigate and they was no reason for that person to call 911 they should be held accountable and people would stop doing it if they would get in trouble for it they would stop doing it
They entered a closed backyard, which is a 4th amendment violation, aka trespass, aka firing the weapon makes it criminal trespass with a firearm/weapon. Couldn't happen to a better person. Also, all the people in the HR should be on trial also for allowing this man to have done this as negligent and coconspirators in the murder.
The fact that when they asked him the question he smiled and said no problem, that should have been enough warning that this guy does not need to be a police officer
The line of questioning about "why didn't you tell anyone about the gun" is brilliant because it shows that he was either grossly negligent and put his partner in danger, or he actually never saw the gun until he was in the house and just fired his weapon with no regard.
I know he never saw the gun and he just fired because he's a trigger happy lunatic, then used the gun as justification and counted himself lucky that he didn't have to plant something to create justification. The point is, the version of events he wants us to believe doesn't make him look any better. All it takes to expose truth is simple, honest questions.
Having worked with a lot of cops I would say most cops are narcissist. So you can imagine the level of narcissism this cop had if even the police psychologist thought his level of narcissism was too high.
Is it surprising? What kind of person do you think is drawn to force/authority type of jobs like police/guard/soldier, kind, gentle, empathetic people? 🤷
It's nothing new. The portrayal of cops on film, radio shows and TV was so negative that their unions and chiefs were complaining and wanted shows that portrayed cops in a positive light. So we started to get shows like Dragnet and Highway Patrol back in the 1950s. Still, Hollywood would occasionally get away with portraying reality in movies like the Godfather, Bad Lieutenant, Training Day and Serpico. The corruption and crimes of cops going back to the 19th century is horrifying when you take the time to look into it.

It's not murder. Murder has to be premeditated. This was caused by gross negligence and incompetence. Nobody is accusing him of going in with the intention of killing the victim. I just can't believe how little time between telling her to put her hands up and pulling the trigger there was. Do we even know if there was a gun? She was in her own home though. An innocent bystander really.
After I left the military, I looked into law enforcement as a potential career. I even took and passed the written test, for my local sheriff's department. As I did more research, specifically on the academy. The more I changed my mind. There's a saying in the infantry. "Militaries make poor police forces. Police forces, make poor militaries". The current set up, and training of law enforcement is too similar to a military boot camp. The mindset should not be the same.
I've said this for many years.. Its honestly good to hear from someone who was actually in the military and trained. Where ROE applies for you it wouldn't be near the same for them it's crazy..
Dude fails all his psychological exams and interviews, Fort Worth Department: "he's a great candidate to be our Captain, we need a leader who can't think"
Self-defense is an affirmative defense meaning you have prove the elements of self-defense. Part of using the lethal self-defense defense requires you being in fear for your life and that will necessarily require some form of testimony from the person that committed the action. In a case like this the facts aren't in question this officer absolutely shot and killed this person but their culpability is going to be much different depending on circumstances and their state of mind.
I'm not sure he even had a lawyer. 3/4 of the prosecutor's questions were speculative and the rest of the time the prosecutor was testifying. Not 1 objection!!!
I retired as a career firefighter, and during my time of service, I conducted many wellness checks, some that are similar to this in many ways. I always went to the front entrance, and announced, "fire department" loudly many times, then slowly entered the house to check on the welfare. It is interesting that it never occurred to me that there could be a crime in progress. I guess, as a firefighter, I have a totally different mindset
I've never in my 8 years of being a cop, ever heard of, or seen, a firefighter conduct a welfare check, as if there's absolutely any chance of an unknown crime or possible violent person interaction, they stage and wait for us to clear the scene. I've seen a crew of 5 guys wait because a 70 year old "threatened to go physical". That being said, I always, loudly, announce "SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT", and bang on the doors/windows. I've always been more afraid of getting shot by a homeowner, than to stumble on a burglary in progress. I have a higher chance to get shot by a homeowner than someone committing a burglary in my opinion. That being said, I've also never heard of someone failing their psych test and still getting hired. That's pretty much a death sentence if you fail the psych test here in California, for every agency you will ever apply to.

To me , the greatest threat to officer safety is officers.
They're also the biggest threat to our liberties.
They're the biggest threat to civilians, past ten years officers have unlawfully killed more people than terrorists.
If the harm only comes back to another officer ,that's on them.

Yes.
That would be the chief of police at the time of hiring. The chief has to approve all new hires.
You understand with the defund the police movement the good cops left so they have a limited higher pool. Example is Philly is waving so much due to needing cops so bad.
Absolutely

Instead, he calls the assassination squad on the Non Emergency line?

Dark Triad Syndrome. A real psychopathy.

In a case like this the facts aren't in question this officer absolutely shot and killed this person but their culpability is going to be much different depending on circumstances and their state of mind.
His lawyer could've done it on purpose. They're getting paid probably don't care about defending this criminal

A lawyer cannot stop a defendant from testifying.

Those police assume everyone is a criminal and there is crime everywhere. Funny thing is police commit a great deal of crimes themselves.
