Nice find. I don't know your history with FJ40's, but you're probably going to start doing a whole lot of learning about them now! I've found IH8MUD and TLCA to be great resources.
My very first car was a '66 that I got for $600 in 1986. It was camo and the hardtop had gone missing long before I got it. It had three on the tree and would do about 65mph downhill tops. It was epic. I sold it for spending money when I left for college and I've missed it ever since.
got a 72 that was handed down to me from my father who was the original owner. They are absolute tanks offroad but don't expect to get anywhere in a hurry. Also, they are awesome for driving for in snowy conditions.
In 1989 - 18 years old I stumbled upon 78 FJ40 soft top with full cage custom rollbar for 1200. It looked great fun ride only down side was previous owner used it off road in upstate NY & with that came lots of rust...to the point fuel tank had rust leak. I ended up selling after 4 years of ownership, big mistake on my part.
I’ve got the same color with almost the same pin striping. Don’t think I’ve seen another with the same pin striping till now. Mine started out life in Alabama.
Nice FJ40! I had a ‘76 for about 12 years but sold it when Colorado required me to put back on the pollution control that I had removed because it went bad.
Dude.. as soon as you showed the inside, I could totally taste it. ..that old tractor smell/taste.. I've got 3 of them. '69, '73 and '76. I'm wondering what you paid for it? I thought I had the cheapest one.. lol ..and the second cheapest. A trick I learned about finding cheap fj40s and parts is to spell landcruiser wrong when searching. Try it a couple ways and see what you find. I got my '69 for $800 by searching land cruser, or criuser or something like that. Or it was landcruser, landcriuser or whatever.
Nice purchase - I think the prices are coming down. I got a '72 for $2,200 in bone stock original condition with about the same rust level. It has almost no smog stuff on it so just going to keep her original. Showing 67K miles and think that is accurate after popping the head to get her unstuck.
When i bought mine from a guy that had it sitting next to a tree I had to winch it out tow it home with my Titan. He threw in a second body tub 1973 Frame and two body tubs. Extra Fenders rear doors , Fiberglass top , pretty much everything 3 speed for about 2500 bucks That was about 6 Years ago. Now I started restoring it from the ground up. So Its taking me a while since I had other projects in the way. So for 4500 I think that is about right for a running one.
bestfromnw Yes the parts are expensive I just ordered about $5000. Worth of parts for mine I have about half of the body parts off so I can get it all sand blasted It looks like you work on all kind of older cars. What are you working on first. Motor or body? I’m doing the body first as the roof leaks so I’m going top down
Now you have them coming from South America all clapped out, with rattle can paint jobs and the entire undercarriages covered in rattle can truck bed spray going for 20-30 grand!!! Right when I start looking for one. Figures.
I bought a 76 FJ40 running but it had tons f body rust fr 900 I drove it to a “landcruiser dismantles and he gave me 2500 the next day. Then the seller calls me and tells me he’s got the hard top it was at a friend n his garage for 30 years. He gave it t me die 75 more and it was perfect I latter sold it for 350. That was my cheapest deal
Why do Americans expect high speeds from an FJ40?. 65mph is about their max safe speed. They are not cars, they are meant for bad roads and off road. This a vehicle conceived in the early 50s.
Well cheapest you guys is when I sold mine, It was a 73 green FJ no rust beautiful . When it came time to pass emissions in Denver 1993 I tried 5 different places would not pass. To make a long story short I sold it to a guy in Texas and I eventually bought 1970 International scout ,...sold Landcruiser for $700.00. Every time I dry around and I see that green FJ I throw up a little. The second biggest mistake of my life a flight attendant Cindy Griffith dumped her for some stupid girl, who knows maybe the guy in Texas has both...
Have 77...ambulance doors...hardtop..bikini top...doors...full roll cage...automatic stick...disc brakes all around...350 small block...expedition rack...sitting on 34's pro comps...Rancho shocks...banging stereo...Any takers??? Make offer...in Colorado...
Sick ride!! I daily drive my 1973. Love the pinstriping!
We just got 1984 FJ40 in Nicaragua. Love it. It needs some TLC and acclimate to the car. Built to last,
Nice I’ve owned a 77 for 34 years, back in 1989 I paid 2300 in Denver , not a highway cruiser but such a beast off road
Good find, I got mine for pretty cheap too. Although yours is in good condition and not previously rolled
Whoa! Nice find! Good luck!
good deal! ive been getting a few of the 60s in VA pretty cheap to

I got lucky about 8 months ago and purchased a 1974 with 96000 miles for 1200 it's not in to bad of shape body wise

Yes, I’m curious as well if you still have it. If so, I will buy it from you. I’m in the U.S. as well.
Nice find!! Cant wait to see what you do with it. We just rebuilt ours. Great upload! New to your channel. I looking forward to seeing more.
That's a killer price
That is a steal for what you paid! I woulda snagged it too. Repaint it freeborn red in my garage :P
Good price
still have it?
How are you doing with your cruiser? I’ve been looking for one all summer. I’ve had two. I’m looking for one that is a 76 and up also. Same reason
Other than the parts being shockingly expensive, it's very easy to work on
Pictures please

@@bestfromnw Yeah, the parts on these things are a rip off, hopefully they will come down in price as the market cools off.
How did you find that? It looks perfect.
It's a funny story, it wasn't for sale. I just saw it being towed and asked if he'll consider selling it. I might make a video on it
@@bestfromnw if you get bored with it I can try to make a reasonable offer on it.
You can drive that one a long time.
At least it runs!!
How much does it cost in the US ?
In this condition they usually sell for 10-12
That would cost more here in Malaysia
Jesus I bought mine in 87' for 2,300 mint condition and sold it like ass in 93" for the same price.
That's about the time I bought mine for $2K.
Talk about dumb luck.

Just got a 68 FJ40 for $1800 AUD
Any updates?
Just changed the radiator and tires, and it's pretty much a daily driver
@@bestfromnw would love to see some content on what you've done how it's holding up and maybe future upgrades.

Right when I start looking for one.
Figures.
that's too complete to be the cheapest running LC in the usa, or even oregon. looks decent have fun with it.
Wait how much was it?
Watch the video to the end.
$4500

What is this vehicle actually worth? 10-12K? More?
12-15K around here
@@bestfromnw Thanks. The Cruiser market is very difficult to get a handle on.
You can find them cheaper if you look hard enough.
Your description sounds like a surprise, so I guess you're not familiar with these trucks.
Yea. I wasn't familiar with them at all. Its a fun learning experience with this thing
They're legendary, probably one of the most durable rigs you'll ever work on! I have the diesel version.
Why do Americans expect high speeds from an FJ40?. 65mph is about their max safe speed. They are not cars, they are meant for bad roads and off road. This a vehicle conceived in the early 50s.
Most of highways around my area are 70mph limit, so I like to make sure I can do a minimum speed to keep up with traffic

You should have left it stock. 350 chevy swap devalues it.

For some maybe...
Why is 1976 important?
4 speed and disk breaks
@@bestfromnw And 2F engine.
Bro I'll take this fj40 over any lamborghini anyday. And guess what I'm 21. With the same original engine, no Cummins, no LS in my fj40.
I just got my 69 for 1600 runs and drives
I had a '69. My son has it now,
