<3
I have 15 years of experience in video editing using adobe Premiere Pro. But I haven't tried the trailer editing or know about how it works. Can you tell me, how much to charge for a trailer edit?
Such an amazing interview!
I was wondering why the guest had a happier face and smiling than the interviewer lol. You should smile a bit and compliment your guest's countenance.
Unfortunately most movie trailers today absolutely suck! They’re simply a barrage and a collage of noise and meaningless images. Trailers used to give you a hint at the emotion and the story. It’s really unfortunate because they used to be a really great art form. Look at the movie trailer to “the shining“… True classic. Now its Noise explosions and a dozen cuts per second.… And you think that makes a trailer? So sad.
@Trainrobber Hi, I'm Kunal from Mumbai, India. I'm very interested in learning trailer editing and really enjoyed the intro to your course. I have one question before purchasing: After completing the course and assignments, will I have the opportunity to apply to the studios/agencies you've mentioned, or is this restricted by geography? Please let me know as this will help me decide. Thanks!
My dream job. Making trailers without spoiling the whole movie. It’s a lost art.
This was a year ago... Idk what the work was like then compared to now...but its been slow and I haven't been employed since Feb =( I know we keep pointing out the "passion" in film but for the lot of us still unemployed? Its been hard to keep that passion alive...Just wanted to bring that up for awareness.
Love how quick the rendering is in unreal engine
A lot of tricks! Thanks!
This is an outstanding presentation with more insight and guidance than its runtime would suggest. I'll be giving this at least another pass. Probably two.
That's great to hear -- thanks for watching and for the nice words. More on the way!
Trailer editing seems like such a painful industry to get into. Didn't know in Hollywood studios go to multiple trailerhouses at the same time. You get paid sure, but if you get eliminated it doesn't really move your business forward because you can't really put that on your company resume.
The individual editors often do still include these cuts in their reels/portfolios (and, I'm sure, have fun working on them -- even when they're not selected) -- so it's not a waste of effort!
what the hell?! I thought I was going to learn something about trailers? I love the hot chick!!!
😂 me too. A classic.
who the heck is that guy behind the screen 19secs in concept card? he looks kinda mysterious and sexy.
😂
Thanks bro I just found you. Now I’m watching everything on your channel. 👍
these podcast interviews are very informative and inspiring 🔥🔥🔥✊🏾
Thank you for asking the right questions. You nailed it! Appreciate you so much :)
Thanks for the nice note. More to come soon.
Great interview! I am trying to become a trailer editor and I learned a lot watching this. Def earned a sub and I'm gonna check out your other videos
That's awesome -- I love to hear this and it sounds like you're well on the way.
Is there an explanation why studios spoil movie endings? Or basically every single important scene of the film?
This usually happens at the hands of less experienced studio execs with mandates from above - but part of a trailer team's job is presenting compelling reasons why plot points should be kept secret (i.e. edits so strong that they don't need to give away too much).
So ACE only includes video editors not story editors?
Cool channel. You should interview Ben Insler.
Great to hear from Robert, very intriguing content.
Great video!💯👏
Great interview, superb offering to the community!
Thank you for the support!
She deserves every bit of success and financial freedom, which she is earning by making helpful videos for her audience! ❤
Fully in agreement bro it's everything for me the music
Can I still enroll?
Yes! Enrollment is open now at maketrailers.com
right, but Schiff went to USC, a very expensive ELITE school that ONLY the rich get into...so that's bullshit
This comment resonates deeply with me, as someone who dropped out of Columbia's film MFA program after 1 semester because of the cost. It took me years to pay off the debt I accrued in those 4 months. Many of the filmmakers I interview for this channel never attended film school. At the end of the day, school or no school, the only thing that matters is your determination to succeed.
Dudde I love your channel and I can tell you I am a working editor in TV and docs, but I could never get in0 scripted as nobody cared. Even back in the days in NY during the INDIE wave. I guess i was no lucky enough . But I also had to compete with these guys from NYU or USC because IT IS an elitist business. You have to have the right pedigree. But I struggled as a freelancer and STILL struggle today, even in the TV part (strike has left me unemployed for now 6 months) but I LOVE LOVE LOVE what you do with this channel. I REALLY hope you make more money with youtube than editing. Zack Arnold, for example, was a trailer editor who got sick and tired of the back and forth that happens in trailers. ( example Avengers trailer went back and forth 134 times) . He went to TV, where the pressure is high , as deadlines do not move. By the same token you need to know the story once you hit the ground. But it's a damn hard business BECAUSE they do look down on you, Also, now-a-days, the incompetence at the top is astonishing. I once ask a director what is his vision. He couldn't tell me. : Just cut something I ll see if I like it and give you notes:. It's not the business it once was! I hope you are successful@@Trainrobber
What a cool conversation...thank you...I m officially jealous of movie guys...there I said it...need to make a vlog and say it there also...lol...
If you make a vlog, I'll subscribe. Thanks for the nice words.
thanks for sharing this knowledge! 🙌
Thanks for watching! More to come soon.
I feel I can be a fantastic trailer editor! Would be amazing to have this job
You absolutely can! It's a totally attainable career for anyone with passion and focus.
Great interview and insight, especially the part on different avenues and how sometimes the most unlikely can shape the spine of he trailer. I have cut a few trailers for a company that specialises in restored classics from world cinema. Here's one I did when I was just starting out: ua-cam.com/video/bDqeuJZn1mw/v-deo.htmlsi=y-ljtwwEoKgmp1FG Any feedback and advice is welcome. Great channel, thank you.
Wow! As a friend of Brett I didn’t realize how good he is in his craft. 👍
Oh yeah! And not only incredibly talented, but one of the nicest guys in the industry.
This is the 3rd podcast I've listened to on your channel. GREAT advice and insights. Keep em coming! I don't know how your channel doesn't have more subscribers!
Thank you for checking them out and for the nice words, lots more to come soon!
this is a great interview. I'm more and more convinced that predestination/destiny + honesty + hard work is the recipe for success (I mean this guy didnt even know what movie breakdown is) . also: please check your audio levels while recording, the volume is too low. keep up the good work!
I agree. He worked hard and ended up with one of the coolest jobs in the industry. Thanks for the nice words and for the note, I'll try to get the audio levels up next time.
sir this is GOLD! Thank you!
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the nice words!
20:23 - for personal reference. ty for the video :)
Thanks for checking it out, and thanks for the comment!
thank you nick lange and Brett Winn for sharing the important roles of an editor. one of the best interviews I have watched and sharing your success stories.
Thanks for the nice words, happy you enjoyed it. More to come soon.
Wow. This was great! Brett Winn's career is so interesting. Looks like it took a lot of talent and hard work. Great story of success.
He's one of the hardest working people I've met. And super modest. Thanks for watching.
This content is Gold 🥇
Thanks for the support, happy you liked it.
@@Trainrobber 😊👍🏻👍🏻 Pleasure was mine
I work for some of thier competitors. I am a broadcast engineer, build and design their edit suite and sound bays. I learn a lot just from talking to their editors, ae sound guys and even owners. Love talking with them how they do it. These guys love their art and are really dedicated to what they do. Love working with them sometime even better than working with a live production or a film production. Thanks for this video, I learned a lot again LOL I felt like I just left work after watching this hahaha thanks LOL
Your job sounds great, too - broadcast engineers are right there on the front lines. Thanks for commenting.
Incredible. I hope one day i get to work in a movie trailer. It is one of the best ways to thrive emotions on people. It seems awesome.
You can absolutely do it - all these guys started where you are. Make trailers out of your favorite movies. Just do that over and over again; you'll get better and better, and that'll become the portfolio that gets you into the industry.
@@TrainrobberHow do you get these movies that we love to watch?
Great interview from an amazing editor!
One thing that becomes obvious is after watching a trailer and then watching the movie, you can tell that the trailer was made from either dailies or an early cut because some scenes in the trailer were not in the final movie. Unfortunately if that scene was what caught someone’s interest, they can feel let down with the movie.
Yes - you're right.
Love this! More trailer editor interviews! The whole industry and process is fascinating to me
Thanks for checking it out. More on the way soon.
I just had to comment and say - This was so badass and cool! Love it!
Awesome, thank you!
This was such a great time, I'm definitely gonna keep coming back to this and Robert's episode. There's a lot of gold in here that's just inspiring! Thank you for the wonderful resource!
Thanks for watching, happy you enjoyed them!
