If you're new here welcome! My name is Laura Mullen Vermilye and I am an iron casting metal artist. Being a cast iron artist is an interesting - and at times tough journey, but the rewards far exceed all challenges. While working with cast iron to create my art I am exposed to an amazing community of artists who are as dedicated and passionate as I am. The cast iron art culture is a major influence in my life and on my work and I want to share this artistic adventure with anyone who is interested in seeing hard working people make amazing art with a hot and dangerous material. To do this, I make vlog style videos on this channel that chronicle the artwork that I am currently making and my journeys in Metalsmithing and iron casting. In between casting and metal art videos you may also see some behind the scenes footage of me roaming around the heart of the Midwest and the Ozarks. Thank you to all you folks that are as interested in my small metal project as you are in my cast iron art! Thanks for tunin' in, and as always - I love you. - Навчання та стиль
I have a beautiful scar on my knee from that iron breaking pit 😂❤🎉
Ahhh... Food!
Squirrel!
Adam Booth introduced me to you... So no surprise, the furnace speaks to me.
Just subbed, 'cause of your adorable personality and my love of running my furnace/having a pour.
What a great time looks like everybody had a blast. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Thank you so much for sharing with us. It was a beautiful weekend. It looks like some beautiful castings. And your ducks look fabulous I might add.
Thanks for the video. Look forward to the next one. Also, thank you for coming to my channel. I thought that was really cool.
Thank you for taking us along pray you and rob are doing well
Welcome to Iowa! I'm in extreme S.E. Iowa....and Decorah is in extreme N.E. Iowa...😁
I’m sure it would be quite a drive for you but maybe you should come to the event next summer!!😁
The ducks were awesome. Thanks for the video!
Hello, thank you very much, I wish I could make a furnace like this furnace, I wish there was more content about the construction of this furnace and its details, you are great
Looked like a great time!
The best!
Those ducks are fantastic Girl. nicely done.
So cool! Thanks for showing us another pour.
Great video. I liked the views of the furnace. Your ducks came out nice. Thanks for sharing,
Thanks for watching! I am going to finish grinding the ducks in October (hopefully) and then I’ll make a video showing how their molds were made!😊
The extra footage was really informative... Thanks
That was wild
It was great meeting you finally, really enjoyed our conversations. Thanks for capturing Kelly's pour, great point of view!.
It was an honor for me to finally meet you and I hope to eventually get to your event next fall! Have fun this weekend, I’m sorry I have to miss it!!
Wish Dad were still alive, as a young boy he and his Farm hand did some Iron work on the farm. His father was murdered long before so the men that work there on the Farm helped him learn things. He would have enjoyed this show. Take care. Martin
solid railroad steel
What is sold railroad steel?
In this video we are using old cast iron radiators from houses. 😊
Like the homemade furnace "tumbleweed"
That's awesome has to be a great community to be apart of
I love them all very much!
of course a video like this would be someone from missouri lol
I'm from New England lol
I wonder if any of them studied under Julius Schmidt for the University of Iowa's sculpture department?
Yes! Only one that I know of was definitely there. He’s my friend who I went to the river with and was making the mold of the fan blade shape with the texture of electrical parts. 😁
Did he mention "Schmidt Steak"? After all the molds are poured, we'd pour out a puddle of iron on the sand. Once the iron cools down to a dull red we'd throw on the steaks. Food was a lot more affordable in the 1980's though. 🙂
