Legacy has a very similar transformation, and has very similar look albeit smaller. Instead of gimmicks it has articulation, which one is better to you depends on what you prefer. I adore the legacy one but the original holds a special place in my heart too. Both are incredible figures and you can't go wrong with either. Was really surprised with how sturdy the legacy one feels. A few joints could use tightening and the horns really need to be glued in but otherwise it feels way more sturdy than basically anything else from the past 4 years.
Lately I've come to the conclusion I'd much rather have fun play gimmicks over accuracy or hyper articulation. Legacy Armada Megatron is such a boring nothing figure. All of the life it used to have was sacrificed for what, ankle tilts?
I have the galvatron repaint and it’s a very nice chunky figure, he’s really just missing knees and it’d be a solid figure. I do hope we get a minicon pack so the legacy stuff can have minicons cause that was the whole point of the show. One thing to complain about the legacy is I don’t think it has any minicon ports which is odd cause the armada version had dozens of ports
Agreed! Also not sure if you saw, they were able to implement pegs so far in to Jolt for the new Power-Linx Hotshot. I believe they also found a way for the new Whisper Minicon for Sideswipe in the new Shattered Glass 2 pack.
I have the same exact figure and yes it is older than me. But I got it for free bc my cousin (R.I.P.) gave it to me when I was 9. Now that I’m 18, I still have it and will never ever give it away Edit: Green is my favorite color too 🤌🏻 though I prefer emerald green
It's such a shame the Legacy doesn't have an upgrade kit with the prison shank...I was hoping for one! The UT figures were simple in the transformations yet solid when they do. This is what DEFINED Megatron as a proper H-Tank for Megatron, way better than G2 Megatron/Megastorm.
The legacy and the og are in my mind just two sides of the mirror of the basic potential for just that incarnation of the character alone,not even 1/100 of the true unlimited potential of the character
I had a couple of transformers when I was a kid before this guy but they never lasted more than a few days. I remember him being so much fun to convert back-and-forth. Held onto that figure well until my 20s when I decided to give him a new home with one of my best friends before he moved away.
I happened to be at my local Walmart right as they were restocking it, but after carrying it to the front feeling good about myself for getting a toy relatively early for a change, I remembered my local Walmart has a massive markup on transformers now. A toy that would cost $50-55 USD anywhere else is $65 here, a Deluxe is $30USD, Voyagers $40, Core $18 etc.
One of my very first Transformers ever 🥰 I still have it too! He is a lil banged up and missing the head spike thingies, but he's still one of my favorites from my childhood.
I love original Armada toys so much. I know “articulation>gimmicks” is the more popular opinion so I get why the new Legacy toys are the way they are, but to me the original versions are so much more fun to play with. Especially this guy and Optimus are just so much better than their Legacy versions for my collection.
I just got this Megs! So happy even have the batteries to make it work - Light under the transparent Decepticon symbol lights up, Main gun blast sound when you push the turret in, firing sound when you rotate the turret, and he also speaks -" Decepticon's Attack!".
This megatron has basically everything in posing save for his legs. I remember backin the day some people modded the figure to have actual moving legs but I was never brave enough to try. maybe if I get a few for cheap I can try someday and have basically the "perfect" armada megatron lmao. Also the legs aren't immovable due tot he tank mode gimmicks, there's enough space for them to actually bend. It's the fact he has to holdup tidal wave that's probably responsible for that choice.
You actually have the Takara version. The Decepticon symbols are more painted cleanly compared to the hasbro version. Plus the hasbro version has a purple painted face.
Some of the Micromasters of WfC had a pseudo minicon plug, but it has not the pin in the middle, so they don't activate properly the gimmicks, but for display they look great
Haha, yeah... I bought him again late last year for about $150 US NIB. I had messed with him way back when I was young. A friend had him and he was so cool, but since I was a kid, I couldn't get everything I wanted so I now finally after almost 20 years, picked him up. He's so cool though! The feature set is insane, it's like Unicron in Bot mode, they both have tons of features in their respective modes. And wow, now that I think about it, I got Megs for just a tad more than Unicron... 👀 Crazy! Also yes, the Legacy version is overall, very good when it comes to posability, do wish he had more in his arms but it's not terrible.
I was lucky enough to have a good friend bequeath his Armada Megs to me before he passed away a couple of years ago. And yah, this version of Megs is a very tactile toy with a ton of play features.
I still, to this day, think the turret gimmick should have gone through the chest, like a warpath style look, rather than in front of his body. Imagine how much better the titlewave combo would have looked.
Oh, without a doubt it would have looked so much more cool. That said, I can't help but still love just how dumb the spinning gut gun is, especially when he used it in the show laughing like an absolute maniac while looking utterly ridiculous.

Soooooo...even though I *REALLY* don't like the Megatron Super Mode/Galvatron color scheme (who thought involving pink was a good idea? Congratulation, I think you might have got yourself the japanese "micron legend' version of the toy. Pr at least, it has notable paint differences with the Armada version that I own, so I think it's the takara version.

i still have the OG variant with all the poses and is still by far my favorite transformer, i remember getting the toy around 2008-9 and my little kid arms got a workout from its heft and stifness lol
I just remembered that Leader-1 has a gun mode. His forearms are 5mm, so you can straighten out his guns in robot mode and shove his arm into Megatron's hand and use him as a gun. I can't even remember if this was in the instructions on the Takara version because it seems almost like something some Hasbro engineer made up, but it sort of works. Unfortunately the arms on mine are so loose he won't really stay straight.
For some reason when I was young watching the armada cartoon, I always thought the emblem in front of the meg's chest is to house a minicon that has not been woken up, aka that green chip like thing.
I enjoy the new and the old one equally, I have both (and the white galvatron repaint too). The original is just really big and does fun stuff, the new one is nice if you actually want to pull off some poses.
I had a figure of Black Zarak made from the Armada Megatron mold and while I like the features, I have to say that the articulation was very lacking. I own the Legacy Armada Megatron and I have to admit, they COULD have added a few features to him. Some extra panels that opened and the face shield slider could have still functioned. I didn't need spring loaded gimmicks and lights and sounds, but some opening panels and maybe a pop out arm dagger would have been nice.

Its definitely a good figure, but i don't agree with people who are saying the Legacy version is a downgrade. The old one is sturdier and tougher, definitely no doubt about that. Its heavier and you don't have to worry about it breaking. But the lack of articulation can definitely be a deal breaker for some. New one has that covered, way better articulation, and in my opinion also looks nicer. Both make for good display pieces but they function differently. Also btw if youre thinking of buying an original, make sure he has both horns. Sales on him are notorious for coming with one or neither since they come off so easily
You forgot a gimmick on the turret section, with a minion plugged in the hatch rotates and will make the cannon recoil. Armada was super controversial when it came out. Fans thought they were too heavy on gimmicks. A lot of the toys were bricks, but man are they fun.
One feature you missed because the batteries aren’t there to make sounds: the minicon peg on the back of the turret turns about 30° and makes an engine noise.

Fun fact: the amount of Mini-Con gimmicks he has is the reason why he doesn't have leg articulation. The entire budget went into the gimmicks over the leg articulation
I used to have this as a child... the only flaw was that it did not have usable legs. I wish it had hips and knees. Literally the only flaw. The Leader Class is amazing for emulating as much of this as they could, but I wish there was just a bit more gimmickry. This is why I consider the Fanshobby "Meg Tyrano" to be such an important 3P figure. It's not trying to be the character, it's trying to be the toy. And I personally think it excels at being the toy. Far better than "Naval Commander" trying to be the Armada Optimus toy.

I just bought an original Armada Galvatron and while the possibility SUCKS I do love it. I've had the Cybertron Galvatron for almost 20 years and I now need the Energon Galvatron now asap lol
Really good fun toy though when I bought mine was old enough not to care about a lot of the minicon trapping features and would've much preferred netter articulation. Though the newer one is a bit of a down grade in scale the articulation is vastly improved and he looks the part in both modes. The spring loaded missiles were and are still my favorite feature from this Megatron.
I really like the OG toy, The legacy version is a nice update though. BTW I heard that you are going to TFNation I will be there too, it is going to be awesome
1:06 You're better off buying online. If anyone has a moment I'd like to share a story about me trying to buy Legacy figures in-person. Here we go . . . I don't buy Transformers in-person anymore ever since a Walmart employee threatened to call his manager to get me to leave the store. I was only asking him to open a box of Legacy figures that I saw on the pallet he was working on. There were none on the shelf, and I was 99% sure that Laser Optimus was inside that box of Legacy Leaders. Still I was embarrassed by the scene that was being created, so I left and returned 20 minutes prior to the store closing. He was still chipping away at that pallet, and the TF shelf was still empty. The box I saw was also no longer on the pallet anymore. What a waste of my time. I think he hid it tbh. If that's what really happened, how sick does someone have to be to do that? Anyways that experience completely soured my perspective on in-person shopping for TFs. I only buy them online now. So far I haven't been hassled in any way. Edit: For those wondering, I actually did go back to the store the following morning and lo and behold there was a lone Laser Prime sitting on the shelf. That employee must have hidden the box from me the previous night. Ah well! I even managed to pick up a voyager Blaster figure too. As I did, a guy came out from behind the corner of the aisle and asked me what I was holding. I replied "Blaster," and he wandered away. I was left feeling like I had unknowingly committed a crime or just ruined someone's day. That was my final time ever purchasing a TF in-person. Online only for me now.
Hey TTG, just wanted to say that as a fellow Canadian I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Legacy Armada Megatron for a while now, and I noticed today that it appeared on Amazon. I ordered mine instantly and I hope you're able to pick one up too!
I believe the legs are also the way they are so he can support the weight of the Tidal Wave combination And idk if it was something your friend Nick did with it when he originally had it, but your copy looks to be slightly custom paint modified, unlike what most people have pointed out in their comments. Not only are the lines on the shoulder insignias properly separated (the main visual difference between Hasbro and Takara's releases, Hasbro's is a solid unseparated block) but the face and emblem for the face shield also appear to be painted. Usually the face is supposed to be metallic silver and that emblem is still unpainted aside from the small insignia on the Takara release. Source: I actually own that Takara release of Micron Legend/Armada Megatron. No shame to whoever did paint it, it definitely helps make those features stand out more.
Amazing how the Legacy figure is supposed to be "built for posing" and yet the only things of value it has over the original are a knee bend and an ankle pivot. Even then, at least the Armada figure can actually move its arms backwards.
I have 4 Armada Megatron's, the new Legacy release will make 5. The original is so good, a must have in my opinion. Combiner Wars is ok, but not the best. The Happy Meal toy has a fun punching gimmick, a good desk toy. Along with the Megatron game piece in the Battle for Cybertron board game. Looking forward to seeing what the Legacy remake will be like. He'll look good next to the other 3 i already have!

Congrats getting vintage but I'll see the tidal wave will make it well worth it.
You forgot a gimmick on the turret section, with a minion plugged in the hatch rotates and will make the cannon recoil.
Armada was super controversial when it came out. Fans thought they were too heavy on gimmicks. A lot of the toys were bricks, but man are they fun.
I found a legacy one at Target like a week or 2 before legacy armada prime showed up and I do not regret my purchase at all it is an awesome figure.
I’ve still got my Armada Megatron and he is absolutely a banger. King of crab pose.
One feature you missed because the batteries aren’t there to make sounds: the minicon peg on the back of the turret turns about 30° and makes an engine noise.
😮 I thought that Tidal Wave was one of your grails? Both megatrons are great for what they are, the gimmicky armada megs is pretty cool and I really enjoy the legacy one too

Fun fact: the amount of Mini-Con gimmicks he has is the reason why he doesn't have leg articulation. The entire budget went into the gimmicks over the leg articulation
I used to have this as a child... the only flaw was that it did not have usable legs. I wish it had hips and knees. Literally the only flaw. The Leader Class is amazing for emulating as much of this as they could, but I wish there was just a bit more gimmickry.
This is why I consider the Fanshobby "Meg Tyrano" to be such an important 3P figure. It's not trying to be the character, it's trying to be the toy. And I personally think it excels at being the toy. Far better than "Naval Commander" trying to be the Armada Optimus toy.
Would be sick if the sky saber and the shield and gun combiner were made by the studio series

I had this over a decade ago he was my favourite one to play with but sadly my mother decided to sell him on a car boot sale without my permission or knowledge so sad times

Good review however you forgot the Turret robot mode with leader-1 and you forgot to put leader-1 in target master gun mode
I just bought an original Armada Galvatron and while the possibility SUCKS I do love it. I've had the Cybertron Galvatron for almost 20 years and I now need the Energon Galvatron now asap lol
Really good fun toy though when I bought mine was old enough not to care about a lot of the minicon trapping features and would've much preferred netter articulation. Though the newer one is a bit of a down grade in scale the articulation is vastly improved and he looks the part in both modes. The spring loaded missiles were and are still my favorite feature from this Megatron.
I have Armada Galvatron and I get you man. Sadly the electronics and slide mechanics died. Just bought the fanshobby galvatron which looks amazing
The old A76 batteries have replaced/succeeded by the LR44 batteries.

1:06 You're better off buying online. If anyone has a moment I'd like to share a story about me trying to buy Legacy figures in-person. Here we go . . .
I don't buy Transformers in-person anymore ever since a Walmart employee threatened to call his manager to get me to leave the store. I was only asking him to open a box of Legacy figures that I saw on the pallet he was working on. There were none on the shelf, and I was 99% sure that Laser Optimus was inside that box of Legacy Leaders. Still I was embarrassed by the scene that was being created, so I left and returned 20 minutes prior to the store closing.
He was still chipping away at that pallet, and the TF shelf was still empty. The box I saw was also no longer on the pallet anymore. What a waste of my time. I think he hid it tbh. If that's what really happened, how sick does someone have to be to do that? Anyways that experience completely soured my perspective on in-person shopping for TFs. I only buy them online now. So far I haven't been hassled in any way.
Edit: For those wondering, I actually did go back to the store the following morning and lo and behold there was a lone Laser Prime sitting on the shelf. That employee must have hidden the box from me the previous night. Ah well! I even managed to pick up a voyager Blaster figure too. As I did, a guy came out from behind the corner of the aisle and asked me what I was holding. I replied "Blaster," and he wandered away. I was left feeling like I had unknowingly committed a crime or just ruined someone's day. That was my final time ever purchasing a TF in-person. Online only for me now.

Hey TTG, just wanted to say that as a fellow Canadian I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Legacy Armada Megatron for a while now, and I noticed today that it appeared on Amazon. I ordered mine instantly and I hope you're able to pick one up too!
I believe the legs are also the way they are so he can support the weight of the Tidal Wave combination
And idk if it was something your friend Nick did with it when he originally had it, but your copy looks to be slightly custom paint modified, unlike what most people have pointed out in their comments. Not only are the lines on the shoulder insignias properly separated (the main visual difference between Hasbro and Takara's releases, Hasbro's is a solid unseparated block) but the face and emblem for the face shield also appear to be painted. Usually the face is supposed to be metallic silver and that emblem is still unpainted aside from the small insignia on the Takara release.

No shame to whoever did paint it, it definitely helps make those features stand out more.

you can give him so many weapons!
Amazing how the Legacy figure is supposed to be "built for posing" and yet the only things of value it has over the original are a knee bend and an ankle pivot. Even then, at least the Armada figure can actually move its arms backwards.

I ended up upgrading my legacies shoulders. Now to hunt for a cheap leader 1
I have 4 Armada Megatron's, the new Legacy release will make 5. The original is so good, a must have in my opinion. Combiner Wars is ok, but not the best. The Happy Meal toy has a fun punching gimmick, a good desk toy. Along with the Megatron game piece in the Battle for Cybertron board game.
Looking forward to seeing what the Legacy remake will be like. He'll look good next to the other 3 i already have!
