"Wherever you are, scream and shout at the tv!" I have to admit that when i watcht this live i did. Defenetly the most exiting rowing race in the olympics
I remember watching this live and I remember the relief I was feeling when the commentator said "there through there through". Definatly one of the greatest moments of beijing 2008 for me.
Why is this not included in any of the greatest commentary moments of all time? This video brings tears to my eyes no matter how many times i watch this.
I tell you what... When this was live I had tingles running up and down my spine. Watching this (with addition of the music) and regardless how many times I watch it - I still get those tingles.
I remember that moment live on TV, literally wanting to stand up and shout at the TV. As sad as it sounds I did it anyways. They had the hopes of a nation hanging on their shoulders and they didn't let us down. The commentator shouting the British are Coming just proves how much it meant to him, let alone team GB. Poetry in motion!
Just seeing this now...years later..watched it live at the time. The commentary was by Gary Herbert, Olympic Gold Coxwain in Coxed Pair with Searle Brothers, my heroes as a young rower...absolutely fantastic by Tridges-Hodge and the lads💪💪
After days of searching and many restless nights I have found it what the music is. It is 'Madokara Mieru (Instrumental)' by Corner Stone Cues on an album called Eton Path.
I cried my eyes out and am proud to admit so. Whatever people think of GB, when they are coming up behind in the rowing, people mess themselves as we will win.
I'm sorry, but there is no boat in this final with a stroke named Robert Plant... If your thinking about the brittish that would be Andrew Triggs Hodge, or the aussies; Francis Hagerty ;)
@ironoarsman , he has received an honorary OBE (Order of the British Empire) but to be knighted, you have to be a British citizen. Nice post, Juergen deserves recognition for his achievements.
Jurgen could still be given an honourary knighthood. He would be known as Jurgen Grobler KBE, rather than Sir. However it is a very rare honour to be given outside political and military circles.
That's a ridiculous thing to say, they didn't just decide to team up in order to increase numbers, they have had thousands of years of interaction and hundreds of years as a united nation, all of which is much stronger than some silly olympic games.
Even if you did combine the two country, you'd still only have a limit of how many of that new Oceania country can participate in events. Even if you did combine the two, you'd only get 4 people in the coxless fours reglardless. And you might be better as a result, or worse. It work's for Team GB. Together we triumph, devided we fall. Remember that.
@mattjones969 even crazier- professionals are paid. they can make a living by simply performing in their sport. not rowers- a small stipend is all you get and thus, these guys have to work to keep themselves up...
Yeah that's what I'm saying. But I'm talking about that fellas ideas of Australia and New Zealand combining - There'd be hardly any point to it. OF course I know we've been a united nation for years. I was born in London for a start.
zzz. B'cos Great Britain is a country. It's a combination of the 3. Why don't Canada's territories and provinces all sepereate? Some of their provinces are bigger than the UK combined. So why don't you moan that they all become their own countries eh? England, Wales and Scotland United a long time ago to become a single country. If you want to whinge about them being seperate, they all use the same currency for a start, and the same passports. So quit whinging.
you do that, we'd still destroy you every time, bearing in mind all these guys n this boat were english, I dont think your argument weighs up bring on the ashes!
The Brits are doing a few things right, hats off!! Juergen Grobler, good job! 92-96-2000-04-08, when will the German get knighted by the Queen? That is the world upside down, a German being Knighted, would he be the first German? Just joking of course. Good night, Xeno

one of the best moments in the olympics for GB
absolutely fantastic

After days of searching and many restless nights I have found it what the music is. It is 'Madokara Mieru (Instrumental)' by Corner Stone Cues on an album called Eton Path.
What a race! Amazing commentary...wow!
I cried my eyes out and am proud to admit so.
Whatever people think of GB, when they are coming up behind in the rowing, people mess themselves as we will win.
replay of that just the other night! came down to australia and great britain once more!
that commentary is great "the British are coming the British are coming" very memorable
Garry Herbert - he was the cox for Johnny & Greg Searle when they won in Barcelona 92. Best commentator in sport.
Can't beat Garry Herbert getting beside himself with his commentary. Infectious.
Even a proud irishman like me will admit that is ballsy! Fair play GB
@TabooxKiller I don't think it's on UA-cam at all - none of the Beijing 2008 coverage is from any sport.
Bejing Olympics, 2008, Rowing 4's, Gold Medal winning race, with full commentary please, BBC, (tax payers, that's me), video please !!!

This was some of my favourite commentary ever. Lead commentator lost his voice.
that's what champions are made of..the inability to give up.
that is where I want to be in 8 years...only for a different team, but I would represent them proudly

@Camphoss i don't remember the last time i was an English citizen. The actual country is Great Britain
