Death of King Foltest: Most Epic Game Scene (Witcher 2 | Letho Escapes, Geralt Captured)

  • Foltest most certainly still harbored feelings for his former lover and decided to save the children that were the fruit of this affair. He feared they would otherwise become trump cards in the game of politics, tools of intrigue. Once Foltest made a decision, no one and nothing could stand in his way. The deaths of the great and powerful of this world do not always befit their lives. The blow was so unexpected that even the witcher failed to react in time. A dagger's blade ran across the throat of Foltest, ruler of Temeria, cleanly slitting it, and his blood flowed out onto the floor of the temple solar. Thus died one of the most powerful kings of the North - at the hands of an assassin in the garb of a monk. Download Foltest's wallpaper: bit.ly/VQrUe5. Watch more Witcher 2 videos: bit.ly/RTs7x4.

      @RustCohle072 8 років тому +510

      +Several Snakes He's not that bad. He was hired by Emhyr and was promised that the viper school would live on. Also he would have been killed or forced to comply possibly through torture if he refused initially. Considering that, a lot of us would do the same in his position. His witcher school is nearly all he's known his life

    • @RustCohle072
      @RustCohle072 8 років тому +88

      +Several Snakes Yeah he's certainly done enough to deserve death. In reality i think Geralt's reasoning behind sparing him would be thinking he'd be useful later, and recognising that Emhyr was more to blame. If the battle of kaer morhen were real, Letho would wreck loads of the Hunts minions. I say if it were real because you don't see him do much in the battle from memory.

He was my favorite king, but Letho didn't kill him out of hatred or for revenge. He's a witcher after all, devoid of emotion. He did it because it was his job, and if he didn't someone else would've taken his place.

      There's no such thing as a free kingdom under Nilfgaard. Maecht, Toussaint, Metinna. All are just puppet states. I'm sure I'm not the only one slightly dissatisfied at the 'best' ending due to this, but the alternatives weren't great either.

      Letho can't use the excuse of "I was just being a witcher". Witchers are, by definition, NOT assassins. They don't kill sentient beings for money.
      Foltest's death and Demavend's death are both on Letho's head, AND on Emhyr's head. And given that those deaths led to the war, then anyone who died in the war is also partially on Letho's head. He deserved to die.

    King Foltest. Defeat the Nilfgaard at Maribor. Outmanuevered them at Brianne. Unite the North in the 2nd North_Nilf War and beat their sorry ass back to Yaruga. A beloved king. Love by his people. Respected by the sorceress. Friend with Geralt. Acknowledged by Emyr as a legitimate threat. Even the lodge knows if they want to make a country run by mages, getting Foltest acknowledgements is more important than the other kings unite.

      No, Eredin is the leader of the Wild Hunt. The Wild Hunt is an elven army from An Elle (I may have spelt that wrong) who travels between dimensions to capture slaves. The Wild Hunt looses this ability in the Witcher's dimension which causes them to look for an alternative, which happens to be Ciri, the Child of the Elder Blood.

      If you wish to point out individuals as representation of the whole, Then I could present the same thing. Men like Charlemagne, patre europae, worked hand in hand with the pope and often used the clergy as a way to administrate his empire, via the missi domini. and jumpstarted one of europe's educational and scholastical revolutions ie the Carolingian renaissance. Heck most States in looked to the clergy to administer state affairs, a prime example is moore or the celebrated cardinal woolsey. Louis the pious wrestled control over northern spain out of the hands of the ummayads and laid the ground work for the reconquista with the pope. You have King Sobienki who's christian league, which was created under the guidance of the pope, defeated the Turkish armies and saved Europe.
      And the popes weren't evil men, Galileo's patron was pope urban the eight and it was his connection with the pope that gave his theory (which was father Copernicus' Theory of Heliocentricity, yes Copernicus was a member of the clergy) alot of credibility in rome when the tycho brahe's universal system was dominant. Even when he was condemned by the inquisition, he was put into HOUSE ARREST in a LAVISH ITALIAN PAPAL VILLA GIFTED BY THE POPE HIMSELF. Pope Clement, who reign as the holy father during the English reformation prevented Catherine's and Henry's Annulment on both grounds of christian and moral honor (ie you don't annul a marraige just because you can't make an male child leading to a cannocial impediment). The practice of Clerical Celibacy was a measure for the Catholic Church to ensure that their priests were never in the business of inheritences and could not pass over land to children which could then use it for self-gain. There were many measures like these which are self limiting to the church's power.
      And the church, the clergy, and the institutions of learning they have established shaped the modern world, it is clear from the historical record that the church has been probably the largest single and longest-term patron of science in history, that many contributors to the Scientific Revolution were themselves Christian, and that several Christian institutions and perspectives were key influences upon the rise of modern science. to the Monastery of Lindisfaire and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences in Rome, to the early church fathers to the Jesuits, to men and women like Grosseteste, Hildegard, Buridan, Oresme, Nicholas of Cusa, Bunfels, Bacon, Copernicus, Galileo, Pascal, Lobkowitz, Boyle, Redi, Newton, Kepler. Leibniz, Leeuwenhook, albretch von Hailer, Euler, Laviosier, Lemaitre, Mendel, Agnesi, Volta, Bernoulli, Ampere, Cuvier, Faraday, Babbage, Maxwell, Joule, and many many more examples leading to advancements and sometimes establishments of new concepts and ideas like in Geology, Botany, Optics, Astronomy, Calculus, Logarithms, Combinatorics, Trigonometry, Statistics, Computational Algorithms, Computers, Geometry, Chemistry, Biology, Micro Biology, Physiology, Parasitology, Genetics, Physics, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Scientific Natural History, Scientific method, etc
      And that's ignoring christian charity and/ or not celebrating christian might. Detractors like you tend to ignore so much of history or look with a horridly unfair bias so that you can ascribe a label of "evil" to the church rather than looking at it holistically.

    • @degurkin
      @degurkin 9 років тому

      Killerbee McTitties
      In that opening cinematic to the game you see a tall bald guy that definitly did cast some sort of magic to protect himself from his own vials effect murdering a king
      said guy has a scar on his chin which you can see because glorious slow-motion
      Said person escaped the ship at the end of the cinematic and based on his combat prowess and the plan itself it is safe to assume he made it out of there after the screen went black
      You as the player can make the connection that random suspicious cleric guy is in fact said murderiser based on "subtle hints" which are covered all over that scene (with the final clue beeing the fact he wasn't mute which Geralt picked up on which is when Geralt knew a kingslayer is in the building)
      I think you personally wouldn't make a great witness for police questioning

    Anais saw everything but he had no clue about that and this whole ordeal is put together with such great camerawork and fitting music in a way that there is absolutely no need for explaining anything to the viewer.
    All this to introduce the main villian of the game, which later on even reaveals to have his good reasons and isnt all black and white either.

  • @Rafalskimi
    @Rafalskimi 13 років тому +7

    I was very saddened by this scene. Foltest was one of the best characters in the entire series, as well as the best king ever in the entire fantasy genre. In the novels, you read about him, and you think "Heh, he's a pretty funny and good king." In the first Witcher game, you meet him and you think "Damn, he's awesome!" And then, in Witcher 2, he's just all of these things above. Even the new players have the time at the beginning to grow fond of him enough to be saddened by his death.

    It is these moments you realise that the game you played is something more...much more. From this moment you know that North is about to fall, and that the game is more like the real world outside-where Hope is lost by the ones that have lost their's hope too, we CAN say that Letho is the ,,bad'' guy, we can even say and should say that ,,Emhyr the Dick of the Witcher world'' is the most evil guy ever...and that IS why i so much love witcher 1, 2 and 3-no one is good or bad, just being themselfs and doing what they must....just like real world
