My favorite moment in the video was when you respected someone who was struggling and chose not to shove a camera in their face. Your kindness and grace are the cherry on top of the great production and fun nature of your videos.
I agree! Loved that he knew better than to do that!
Absolutely
Ditto, my thoughts exactly
After watching Kara and Nates trandem bike series this is great! They also didn't have much experience with their 3 person bikes but quickly figured it out and went cross country!
I keep thinking Kara and Nate should do this race next year with Nate's parents as the 4th person, one male and one female team, but I think they need to figure out the safety issues with these quad bikes.
I watch them too! That was quite an ordeal!😅
Loved that 6 part series
This is more entertaining than the train videos😅
This series is so fascinating! I've learned so much about quad tandem biking that I never knew, including the fact that it exists at all. And kudos to your kindness to the NZ captain. In a race support mental health, respecting someone else's is a great example.
I am all in on this series LOL. The emotional rollercoaster. Should we quit, should I quit. I will help you, we will help you. Everyone cheering and supporting !! AHHHH!!!! I love it. Can't wait for next week
I am amazed that there's a challenge bigger than the difficulty with injury and the broken fork!
Also massive props to giving the captain space to deal with difficulties and not doing it for cheap reality show vibes.
What a great event and I am loving this series. There's plenty of drama and challenge but also just a lot of the whimsy you have. And what an ingenious solution for the broken quad tandem!
After last week's video, I went to the Wirth Hats website to see their products and clicked on the About page. The origin story of this cause is... heartbreaking.
I'm so impressed by the tenacity of the riders, and the dedication to the cause from all involved. It's way more than just an international bunch of weirdo cyclists on weirdo bikes being followed by a weirdo UA-camr. 😊❤️
The suspense....! 😖
This race is amazing. All the riders are so generous with each other and the other teams, not something you often in competitive sport. I love how everyone is making sure everyone is taken aware of and given the space they need to do what they gotta do.
Can't wait for next week 😊
Love the series Mike! Bummer for the accident and the highway riding...but looking forward to the next video!!
I am absolutely loving these! Love your storytelling and the incredible footage of what these teams endured on a daily basis for this race and fundraising effort. And just like someone else said, it was awesome of you to recognize and respect NZ Sam’s need for emotional spa as he valiantly fought to continue on with the race.
This is beyond challenging - the bikes, the lack of experience riding them, the terrain, even unfriendly Canadians (???) yelling at the contestants, Looking forward to next week's finale.
The first video was so interesting and I’m thoroughly invested in this series 🔥
Oh my goodness, me too! 🚴♂️😊👍
Mike the reason I love to watch your videos is the kindness and positivity, and I like trains. But when you made the comment about Sam "not needing a camera in his face" it was proof positive of your character. Any other reality based video would have gone after him for the drama, because that is what people think sells. Keep up the positivity and treating humans like humans you put out a great product when you sell the kind of person you are. P.S. I was happy to hear you will have content the rest of the year missed you when you were away.
Decided to give it another try this week and I'm glad I did. I love the comradery and I love that each person can decide for themselves whether or not to carry on without shaming from the others. OK I'm hooked now. Looking forward to next week. See ya then.
This is awesome. Even choosing to ride and not race the team work aspect is so cool to see
Mike, I just want to say that I’m really enjoying this series. I wasn’t sure what to expect when you announced you were doing this series, but I’m glad I chose to watch it. Keep up the good work!
You're doing a great job with this, Mike! It's reality without being a dramafest. There must be a bike manufacturer or shop capable of creating a robust, safe quad.
Loving this ride!!
The power put down into the fork, gears, and wheel is so much since everyone is downpedaling at the same time. I'm wondering if there is a way to offset the cranks by a fourth so that as the first cyclist is downstroking the next cyclist is at prime angle as the third one would be at the top etc... so the team never downstrokes all power at the same time and only one cyclist of the team is downstroking at a certain point.
I can imagine it would reduce the pressure on the tyre, the fork, the chain and the gear... Probably easier to cycle .. and plenty of space so that each cyclist can be pedaling at a different stroke position than the one in front of them... 🤔
That train knew Mike Downie was near!
Wow. Interesting turn of events. Then an cool bonus of seeing that unique orange Canadian Pacific engine outside that campground.
This series has it all! Looking forward to next week.
Enjoying the series. Nice to see a women's team too.
18:38 this is fun! Kara and Nate just did a bike ride across the country with some friends and family on a three seater. It was a great series.
It's just after 12 45pm Sunday Aust.East.Daylight Saving Time and I'm just catching up with both Quad Tandem videos. Wow! This International Challenge is so great to raise funds for mental health. We all need to step back from our daily routine from time to time to take in the air and chill out. Touring through Southern British Columbia on UA-cam really does it for me and brings back fond memories of a road trip with my Canadian buddy Kevin in September 1995 (Yes, 28 years ago). I recognise several scenes in and around Kelowna and approaching Revelstoke. Poor Sam taking a tumble on the gravel reminds me of several I took as a young lad many years ago, although when my bike's frame gave way I saved myself from falling, but part of me was very sore for several days afterwards. Had to chuckle when I saw the cows joining in (lucky it wasn't mumma bear and her cubs crossing the road). Thanks for sharing a wonderful experience and looking forward to more. 🙂🙂🙂
such a wonderful series. Thank you for bringing us along!!!!
Keep up the great work Mike! We love trains. But we love, the fact you are showcasing people. Showing people trying to live their best lives. And you are bring us with you. If really feels like you want us with you. Your videos help bring people out of their bubbles, to look for their own adventures. Cheers and thank you.
Very much enjoying this the fact that all the teams are committed to the race and helping each other for such a good cause is just wonderfully heartwarming . And the respect shown for each competitor is just lovely . If only the whole world could get on as well as these teams eh ?
Nice one! Crazy that you managed to accidentally catch the CP 8757 Every Child Matters engine!!
Mann I absolutely loved this series. Thank you for all the effort you've put into showcasing this absolutely awesome event. Hope to see it back on the channel again in the future....
I hope so too!
Great content! Thank you so much for this series. I really appreciate how difficult this must have been to film and edit.
Glad you enjoy it!
Railroad Foamers seeing this at 18:14 screaming at their screens lol
Awesome Video Man! Keep It Up! :D
Advice: *KNEE PADS and ELBOW PADS!*
👍 Glad Team NZ is alright! 🤔 But it's a real problem when bike quality can't be trusted. When there's more confidence placed on an old heavy Japanese built bike than the quality of something sleeker, more modern.
This was a great follow up to that first one. Love this series and excited to see next week's video. What a great cause, too!
Bashing A&W like the UK has good food oof
Maybe it's the way you edited this vlog but it really is intense and full of drama. Definitely wanting to see this grueling adventure to the end.
Growing pains, but i think this will be something to look forward too in the future with many many more teams.
Great video and that wind storm was insane
I love the concept but I hope the standard for durability rises next time. 4 people can put out a lot of power so it makes sense to take the weight and size hit in very strong components.
What a worthwhile goal! Great fun video!
Mike,
This is a relatively new event with new type of bikes, even one person bikes which do "offroad," are designed for that.
Personally I think that the course should have been only
on paved roads, even Tour de France, I believe, was on paved surfaces.
OFF PAVED ROADS IS A BIG MISTAKE!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
OMG Liv and I were coworkers at MEC back in the day! Very cool!
18:10 Catches the CP Every Child Matters ES44 without even trying
23:08 how dare she talk like A&W like that! 🤣🤣🤣
I love this series
Canadian Women’s Team is honestly #Goals!
Ah, the classic Michigan left at 21:25.
Also, it'd be cool to get either an engineering or making UA-cam channel involved with engineering stronger quad bikes.
Amazing video! Can’t believe that we actually got to be a part of this
What a rollercoaster.
this is really fun
Makes me wonder what sort of gearing and frame set can put up with 4x people pushing hard
love this
Is there no way to fit on a small structural wheel on the middle to take stress off the front forks and rear support? With the weight of the bike+riders+water and gear, and all the torque happening with pedaling, it's a huge amount of pressure on two very small spots of the road, the science might say that the frame can hold 4 grown people, but not while going through something like this
Everyone hit the like button now now
Can't wait
You know I love your youtube channel. But, I feel so bad I am so sad for someone who was hurt and cannot trust again.
just bashing a & w XD
Ben should pose for a shirtless beefcake picture and sell posters at WIRTH !
This is such a worthy cause - I have to applaud everyone for their efforts.
I would really like to see a follow-up once the race series has finished about how the bikes are refined/improved for next year. Their flaws are all to do with the additional weight and power put through the drivetrain. I'm certain some of these problems are easy to resolve like truss forks, chain tensioners and narrow-wide sprockets but others are much more difficult like breaking free hubs. I wonder if any bike designer has ever experimented with out of sync pedals. For clearance that might require longer bikes (which is not desirable) however if stronger free hubs don't exist then it might be the only solution. It would also mitigate the bouncing problem which leads to fork failures.
epic
16:50 They don’t cowtow to the forces of cyclists.
This quad tandem race is so ridiculous. Most of the contestants hadn't even ridden a quad tandem bike before the practice and they're so poorly put together that the riders are uncomfortable riding them. This whole thing has a weird unsafe feeling around it.
Gotta start somewhere
awe, Team Britain please don't base your judgement of the food on A&W, onion rings should be battered not breaded, 😂
Not a fan of Angus. Not everything has to be a race. Just have fun and raise money for a good cause.
but supporting one’s mental health is allowing him to be Him. Angus can be himself. Respect.
Just like Canadians to quit because of something that didn't happen to them.
???
Wow, so many scared girls in the boys team.
Taking the race part out when they were losing is a bad look
Ehhhhhh!!! Not a fan
I get it. It’s very different from my normal videos. We’ll be back to normal in 2 weeks
I don't know, man. I feel like the Canadian Women's team was super strong but they absolutely did NOT get a comparable share of screen time. I know the next episode has already been shot and edited, but so far you've done them wrong.
Quad biking has put me off your channel
That’s okay Dave. We’ll be back to normal videos in 2 weeks.
